It is so good to see an older thoroughbred looking truly happy. Hooray for the owners, trainers, the Marios and all that have anything to do with maintaining this racing icon.

Lovely photos of our beautiful baby Z II, he is a handsome devil and he looks to me like he is a devil. So love the blond bangs, I’m sure he is going to be a real beauty like his brother. Mama Zen looks so happy and contented, she’s sure got the good life and to be back with her BFF is the icing on the cake. Will have to check out the shops goodies. Thanks to the team. Kisses for Zenny and the Red Devil. Auntie Sue

Thank you to Alys and everyone at Team Z and Lane’s End for these wonderful pictures. I guess we won’t be calling him “little Red” much longer. He is SO handsome, and it’s fun to see him with another “crescent moon guy” playmate. Zenny looks wonderful as always and seeing her with her old friend, Life is Sweet, is just precious beyond words. Someone already mentioned (and I was laughing at the memory too) of that LIS video that John took when she didn’t want to get up. I remember his saying “they’re going to CLOSE the track soon” LOL! Ah the memories . . . . ♥♥♥
HeidiK, Vallejo,Ca
Every now and then, I pull that video up and laugh so hard. She sure didn’t want to get up, did she? John was so sweet and funny too.
LindaE_Ohio
Thank you! These pictures truly made my day. I wonder what similarities and or differences people working at Lane’s End notice between Zenyatta’s two colts besides the obvious size and color. I study the photos and try to guess the personality each colt has. I enjoy seeing the progression of growth and am thankful we continue to get updates on Z and babies! Also, Happy Birthday to Barbara Wood!

Hi Linda – there don’t seem to be a lot of us here from Ohio. Where are you located?

Hi Sandy- I live in Stow, Ohio near Akron. Where do you live?

No kidding? I live on the east side of Cleveland! Was on the faculty at KSU for many years. Our Zenny small world continues :-). Hope to “see you” again.

Dear Max Sad to hear Sprinter Sacre may not be running on Saturday after an unsatisfactory tracheal wash, He will have another test on Thursday before a decision is taken, seems Nicky Henderson uses this procedure on the horses every Monday.Keeping everything crossed all goes well no doubt Moose is as well!!Sacre bleu!! hugs Sheena

Sheena. I read that news and thought that the Moosester might be a leading contender if SS stays away. I heard that The Fly is going to race on December 29 at Punchestown, I think. Mullins says that The Fly will give a better account of himself in his next race. The Fly set a world record that last time out. What is Mullins thinking?
Ann in NC. Willie Mullins also said that he is keeping The Fly and Annie Power apart. They will not race together. Annie Power has already beaten The Tullow Tank. She is a formidable filly. The Fly on the other hand is always “coltish” and training to him might consist of bites. He’s already taken a chunk out of Mullins at least once.
Ann NC
Thank you, Max. Never a dull moment in that barn, with the likes of those two horses. Ms. Annie Power is an exciting jumper, love her spirit. The Fly is all business, must take a special groom to deal with his energy! As always, appreciate your posting about these wonderful athletes. Big hearts!
Max
Ann NC. The Fly has a young Irish woman as his groom. He seems to relate well to her. She goes with him to his races.
Max
Here is a video of what it’s like to be a groom to the world record holder of grade 1 wins, The Fly.

Thanks for sharing the video, Max.
I admire her devotion to, The Fly and accepting the challenges that are included in working with him.
Enjoyed seeing him pin those ears back and while grooming…silly boy! He loves his job and then wants his time alone, smart boy!

@ Barbara Wood–HAPPY,HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!!!! Hope your day has been a beautiful one!!! LOVED your poems—so cool that the one mentioned Valley View–Marlene is the wonderful lady who spotted Barnaby at the Nevada feed lot and rwecognized how special he was and that he needed to be saved!!! I will be forever grateful for all of the angels who guided and protected him and sent him to me to love!!!
Barnaby and Traveller moved to their new winter home yesterday (the wonderful farm where they stayed during this summer’s fires). They were so funny when Katie, the farm manager, came to pick them up. We had gone out earlier to play with them and groom them so they looked presentable–and to pack up all the things they would need down there and load their supplies into the car. When they saw the trailer pull up and I approached Barnaby to hook his lead rope on to his halter he stopped in his tracks, fixated on the trailer, did his “getting taller thing” and bolted for the back of the pasture, with Traveller right on his tail!!! It was as if they were saying,”take us away from OUR 5 acres–no way!! Of course, they were actually lucky to be going south,as it was yesterday that the weather changed drastically and winter is now here!! Also,Rita went on a little vacation so there was no longer someone there 24/7–so-o-o it was time! Wecaught up with them and they wre OK with going into the trailer, though cautious. We told them we would be there when they got out and would be right behind them on the road. It was a big 5th wheel slant load, with Barnaby in first,so we could see Traveller the whole way down.
When we got there and unloaded them and put them in their new paddock,I nearly cried when I saw how nice it was . Barnaby sleeps all stretched out on his side–in the “dead horse” position,so I am always mindful of how his bedding is. You should see the huge shelter hey have, deep in fresh sawdust–such a comfortable “mattress” for him. Sue thinks it will be helpful for Travellers arthritis too. There is room for them both to sleep flat out, though Traveller usually sleeps with her feet curled under her like a dog. To top it all off, their whole paddock has a good layer of sawdust too,so that they are not standing mud on wet days! When we went in to the beautiful indorr arena, the owner of the farm was theredling-guess what? Decorating for Christmas!! There is a seven foot tree down at one end where the dressage mirrors and bleachers are,and where the cute “General Store” snack bar is. It looks like,by the time we get down there again, there will be a lot more decorations up–she had boxes of things out.!! What fun–will lead the horses down to that end of the arena to see everything before we mount!! River Sage is really a fabulous facility and we feel really blessed to have them there!! There are geldings on each side our our padock and Barnaby got busy right away trotting up and down the fences with his neck arched high letting all of them know that he intends to be “the Boss”!!
Thanks to all of Team Z for the incredible new photos and videos–not to mention all of the fun new Shop items!!! Boy–are we lucky to have all of these opportunities to keep track of Z and her boys! THANK YOU—THANK YOU!!!!!
Love to all of the Z family–a peaceful night to all!
Max
Sue. Enjoyed hearing your news. When people ask me why I drink Fiji water, I say that it is Zenyatta’s favorite. When they ask about my choice in apples. I say that I eat only what Barnaby eats. You cannot go wrong in being guided by horses.

Hi Barnaby, soak up those warm winter rays when you can! Enjoy your winter home.
Thanks for the B. Update, Sue.
Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
Glad it all went so well Sue! I know how dedicated you are to making Barnaby feel safe and comfy, and this place sounds like “the Ritz” for horses :-) I know that seeing you and Sue there made the move and the new digs all OK for Barnaby and Traveler.

I tried to order today only to find that my credit card was not good enough and must get a pay pal account which I do not want. I guess Canadian fans of Z will not be able to purchase unless we join pay pal so I, for one, will not be purchasing anymore items.

If this has been posted elsewhere I apologize, but this is a great article. I am so glad that this program helped Ramon too. During the Breeder’s Cup, you could tell he was depressed.

Dear Janet,
Thanks bunches for this post! What a great program this is — healing through interaction with horses, makes sense to me! Those with PTSD have also found help with the canines as well. Love that Ramon has benefited so much from his bonding with a horse in this way.

Dear Janet:
Thank you for sharing this article by SH on the Saratoga Warhorse program. Great program; helps lots of soldiers. Glad for RD too. Love and Hugs, JB

Ramon deserves the best in life!
Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
Such a great story Janet. I had seen the link on Bloodhorse.com but hadn’t taken the time to read it yet so thanks for making it easy. It’s wonderful that the program could help not only veterans of war but veterans of the track such as Ramon. The article includes a link to the website (in the comments) and donations are needed to keep the program going so here’s a super Christmas giving idea.
Ann Maree / Tennessee
Beautiful Z looks so happy, all mud-caked, she almost looks like she’s smiling! What joy she brings to so many! Just looking at her always makes me smile.
Steve Haskin has written a follow up story to the Saratoga Warhorse program, which was told in a beautiful video. Steve’s story goes behind the scenes of the program and tells an amazing follow up with Ramon Dominguez and his experience going through the Warhorse program. http://cs.bloodhorse.com/blogs/horse-racing-steve-haskin/archive/2013/12/02/ramon-dominguez-and-saratoga-warhorse.aspx
Here is a link to the HRTV special covered by Steve Haskin’s latest column: http://www.hrtv.com/videos/saratoga-warhorse-/?VideoCategoryId=43
Both Steve’s column and the video are well worth spending time with.

Zenny please tell this to Coz and his juvenile mates, some years ago i walked ljonchik and milena, they carryed me rush theirselves, they turn head lil hind and see how i seat, glide decrease speed command was by soft reins, do Coz like carry jockey by himself? in photo he is kind and homelike like black caviar, grouwing 2yo bones and joints are not enough stable, i think it is need half of quick speed, very glide increase and decrease speed enough far from fence, very low rate of turn on speed by soft reins, to be carefull when course from sloppy become dry and hard, lil time of jockey riding, more time slow walk and be free to give young back of Coz good rest, i remember photo lil 12z is laying in paddock and have rest Zenny eat green grass and guard him, andrej 60 hours on back of sporthorses trotters and walk on tall strong pony

I just love the pics and especially Z with LIS. Warms my heart. They were so close when racing.
