Dear Fans,

Winter has been both busy and a lot of fun at the Farm.  Despite that it is February and the middle of Winter, the California Central Coast has felt more like Spring.  This has benefited our ability to train outside instead of just the covered arena every day.  So Ziconic gets to spend more time with Sarah enjoying warm up and cool down on the track that weaves through Templeton Farms and in the jumping court – his happy place.

We had some BIG FUN at the Farm earlier this month with our good friend, Chelsea Schmitz, Stories Told by Film.  Chelsea started her career as an equine photographer, and now focuses on weddings and events – BUT, she has not lost her eye or touch for horses.  We love what Chelsea does and think she has captured the essence of Ziconic during this photo shoot.  And one of several things we can confirm that Ziconic shares with his Mom, Zenyatta; They ALWAYS know where the camera is!

We were so honored to have Jen Roytz, Executive Director, Retired Racehorse Project, visit us last month!  The love and effort this organization generates to support Thoroughbreds after their racing careers is truly AMAZING!  The next Thoroughbred Makeover will be October 7 – 10, 2020, Kentucky Horse Park, with 616 entries accepted – WOW!!  This is where brother, Cozmic One, made his debut competing for the 1st time and came in 5th!

As mentioned in our last post, one of our visions and dreams for Ziconic is to have a role as an Off The Track Thoroughbred (OTTB) Ambassador for the West Coast and beyond.  And as he continues his OTTB transition, we truly believe he is indeed becoming a great inspiration as a Sporthorse.  Last December 2019, we sponsored a jump to support CARMA and The Thoroughbred Holiday Classic Horse Show at the LA Equestrian Center. We think this turned out GREAT!  So, we are very pleased to have our jump represented at the next Thoroughbred Classic Horse Show Spring 2020, March 21 – 22, 2020 at Galway Downs, Temecula, CA.

Please Note:  Unfortunately, Ziconic will not be attending this show at Galway Downs, but we do have plans in the future, so please stay tuned.    

If you have been following Ziconic on Facebook, you know he has become quite the Jolly Ball player.  This has become an everyday occurrence that can go on for 15 minutes at a time.  Z-Z, as everyone in the barn calls him, has learned how to “fling” his Jolly Ball, which then ends up in his neighbor’s walkout until someone retrieves it for him.  He not only has mastered his twirl; he enjoys having an audience – no surprise!

Ziconic’s grandsire A.P. Indy passed away on Saturday at Lane’s End. Heart-felt condolences and R.I.P. to Lane’s End, Family, Connections.

      Shades of Z indeed! Wow, SP come on like a freight train on the outside — impressive.
      Glad the order of finish stood — there was no interference that I could see. SP was well past March to the Arch and TG when he moved over. Congrats to Social Paranoia, Florent Geroux and all connections!

      An aside: “social paranoia” who knew this name would be apropos of the current scene.

      Can’t thank you enough for the video of John. Loved his story about Zenyatta tossing her riders.

      Tiz The Law was something to see. Hope he stays healthy and safe until the big day in Sept. He is a great great great grandson of Man O War through Tiznow.

    Just watched videos of Spendthrift and Mill Ridge. It is beautiful in Kentucky. Got a quick glimpse of Vino Rosso and the other stallions at Spendthrift-No Omaha! Owner of Mill Ridge goes in the paddocks and feeds and pets some of the mares with babies.

        Dear Judy,

        Glad you liked it. I looked at a few of his videos, and they are pretty amazing. I love how many stars can be seen on the Outer Banks. It reminds me of the night sky in the area where I grew up — you could see so many “diamonds in the sky” way back then before all the lights at night.

        Hope you had a nice weekend, or as nice as possible given our strange circumstances. So far, Bailey, Fenn and I are hanging in there. :-)

      Thanks a million for posting the BloodHorse slideshow of Secretariat — my hero! That is a wonderful compilation. Glad it included Riva Ridge, also. He was a special horse, too, and a favorite of Mrs. Chenery as I recall. I can’t look at that 1973 Belmont Stakes stretch run (even a still shot) without experiencing chills and misty eyes, even after all these years! 31 Lengths!!!!! Simply breathtaking — as Kathy wrote, “the horse that God built”, Amen!

    Just wanted to send all my prayers and blessings to everyone out there in the Land of Zen! Have not posted for a long time, but want everyone to know in the horse racing world that I am praying, all the time, for all the beautiful horses and all the people who take care of them, ride them, train them, own them, and us fans who love the sport. God’s got our back and it will take as long as it takes to get thru this, but we will! ;)

    Sending a shout-out to Elizabeth NM. Are you out there, Z friend?
    The video of the night sky over the Outer Banks of NC with all those stars brought you to mind since I am sure the night sky where you are must be amazing.

    I do hope you and your family are well. Please let us hear from you — we miss your lovely accounts of life in New Mexico, including the wildlife visitors to your home. Just let us know you are okay.

        Dear Judy,

        I was checking into the archives last night (or wee hours of this morning) and could not find a post from our Elizabeth in NM after early June 2017. This is very worrisome since she and her husband had returned from their trip and from her medical check-up. I certainly hope she is okay; although, it is very odd that we haven’t gotten a more recent post. I did find your post to her from September 2017, but no follow-up response.

        Fingers crossed — praying for news. If anyone on the blog knows anything, please let us know.

    HAPPY 16TH BIRTHDAY, ZENYATTA !!! I am so excited that we will be able to visit with you live today on Lanes End virtual tour ! I am really looking forward to this.

    I hope that they will tell us your due date for your Candy Ride filly today during the tour. The date must be pretty soon seeing that we’re into April now. I will continue my prayers for an easy labor and a healthy foal for you.

    Happy Birthday to Ziconic, too. I keep checking the updates on his Facebook page & he looks like he is really enjoying his new life.
