The Pharoah has arrived in Atlantic City! The videos of his arrival are already being posted on You Tube, and he only got off the plane less than an hour ago. His luxury horse trailer plus an escort of N.J. state troopers were waiting to escort him to Monmouth Park. Unfortunately, AP’s best buddy, Smokey, isn’t with him this trip. I guess Smokey has a minor injury and stayed behind at Del Mar. Feel better, Smokey!

Very exciting! Enjoy the racing weekend.

The sights and sounds and fragrances of the countryside are extraordinary after a summer rain. Wildflowers and morning glories profusely spread along the fencerows-and the bittersweet has orange berries popping out of little hulls.
It is a tranquil time, a time to catch the scent of petunias heavy on the evening air. It is something that will be repeated over and over for as long as we can remember.
Early morning brings the sweet call of quail and the cries of a killdeer doing wheelies over the meadows. Speak these things and remember them, because it centers the soul like nothing else on earth.
The bird in its flight stops in one place to make its nest, and in another to rest in its flight.

Dear Kathy.A very Wiseman!!Thank you for the lovely flowers.Walter is still making the news over here and in Minnesota I think!Lots of UK hunters have been named too and yet another US hunter shooting a lioness with a bow and arrow. If I was Walter I wouldn’t think of venturing out again!Theba called it murder and retracted the statement.I told her she was wrong that it was murder and a brutal one at that.
There was a minute’s applause for Sir Peter at Goodwood today and so many tributes to him.He was a very good age and except for last year always made the trip to Paris to see the Arc.He called 50 Grand Nationals retired in 97′.Jockeys all wearing black armbands.
Did you see the huge cat about 41lbs and now he’s down to 19lbs.Fubu overdid the nippy and may have to go to rehab!!!Abby is in trouble again tried to get Mango and Katy to do a catfood commercial. It will be a long time before she gets her paws on the ibone again!Bobby bach was actually eating his own fish today the 3 were on the nest then Celyn flew off.The sun is out today but still quite chilly.Frankie’s just done a flying dismount!I pre-ordered a book about Valegro today don’t know much about his early years.Gosh the Aussies are fighting back England had such a good day yesterday. They may have found a piece of wreckage from the missing Malaysian airliner from last year.what those poor families must have gone through.Have a great day.Love and hugs to you, kisses for Holly,Nikko and Sugar.Sheena XOXO
Kathy
Dear Sheena,
I think Walter will have to be in seclusion for a very long time. I hope he faces charges and his punishment is the maximum. I agree with you…it WAS murder, and extremely brutal. That’s wonderful the ways in which Sir Peter is being honored. Didn’t see the 41 lb. cat. Congratulations to his owners for helping him get to a more healthy weight! Fubu’s current contest ends soon. Hopefully he wins! I’m not sure how believable it would be for dogs to appear in a cat food commercial. They’re awfully cute though, so I’m sure lots of people would watch! So glad Bobby Bach had his own fish! I hope you enjoy the Valegro book. Sounds interesting! Enjoy the continuing Aussie/England competition! Yes, I heard about the piece of wreckage. The poor, poor families. They have been living in a constant hell. Have a good Friday Eve. Love and hugs from me, kisses from Holly, Nikko and Sugar. Kathy XOXO

I am worried about Cecil’s offspring…..there are reportedly 10 cubs….if a new male takes over…he will kill these cubs…has anyone heard anything about this…that would make 11 lions that murderer killed
shirleeinindy
Carol,
Saw it on TV that the new alpha male will kill all the cubs and also could kill some of the females as they will defend their cubs! This man has a special place reserved for him in hades right along side Lundy who killed my beloved Alydar. Wish lots of fire and brimstone for both.
Judy Berube from Rhode Island
Dear Carol, Shirlee and Z Fans:
This man has caused tremendous damage and sad consequences for the lions with his unforgivable, terrible deed. I will never understand the mindset of this man. Senseless. Love and Hugs, JB
Carolyn from Montreal
I also heard that this wasn’t the first time he went “trophy” hunting!!!
One bright side to this story (if there ever could be one), is that he’s had to close his clinic. Let him try to re-open elsewhere! He should be left in the wilderness alone, and see how he survives.
These stories just upset me so much I hate to be counted among humankind!
Ingrid Arnone
Dear Judy,
Yes, I hope they do the same to him!
Hugs Ingrid.

The rules of the lion pride are finite and fixed. Unfortunately, a new male lion will dispose of any young cubs of his predecessor. The purpose of the infanticide is to pass on the genes of the dominant male. Nature views this as strengthening the pride. Ironically the male lion although seen as king of the beasts is only there to reproduce and to protect his pride from outside predators when the lionesses cannot handle intruders themselves. The lionesses do the hunting, look after each other and the cubs, and otherwise maintain the pride. The lion pride is one of the most successful family structures built on female control in the animal world.
Deb E.
In regards to the whole Cecil the Lion tragedy, I haven’t said anything partly because the lion’s name was the same as that of my dearly beloved Grampy Griffin: Cecil. It hurts my heart so badly and every time they mention Cecil on the news it makes me think of my grandfather and how close we were and what a short time we had together. I was only 11 years old when Grampy passed away, and I’ll never forget the pain I felt. In regards to Cecil the Lion, I hope that both the governments of Zimbabwe and the United States bring his murderers to justice, especially the evil Dr. Palmer who in my opinion isn’t fit to live. There’s a special crater in Hell reserved just for him. As for Cecil’s cubs, I can only pray that the researchers put aside their ethics and rescue the poor little things.

Sheena, Earlier today I watched Brenig enjoy his fish with his back to his sisters. He did his mantling and they stayed away but, were screeching the whole time. Very funny, when Monty brought in another fish, one the girls tried to grab it but, got one of daddy’s toes. Monty could let go of the fish in his other foot until his daughter let go of his free foot. A little tug of war. He took off as soon as he was free. The live stream has been off a couple of hours at the Dyfi. I hope everything is okay with this precious family. Take good care. Mary Margaret

Dear Mary Margaret.Yes,all is well.I saw Brenig happily eating his fish too.Blue 24 paid a visit today and caused a bit of a commotion, I think..I missed that. They seem to be enjoying the evening sunshine at the moment.Hugs Sheena.

Thanks Sheena. Whew! My mind starts going crazy when I lose contact with the bobs. We only have a few weeks left until their big journey starts. With all the dreadful, disgusting things happening in the animal world, as well as, with the unborn children, I feel so heartbroken. I cling to the most precious as mush as I can. Thanks again. Take good care, Mary Margaret.

Congrats to Sudden Surprise, the first winning foal for Giant Surprise, who, is a horse that I fell in love with one summer day at the Spa. I saw him being walked to the paddock and in my opinion, as a horse, he had the “it” factor. He towered over all the other horses in the paddock, although he was only 16 hands high. He would also tower over his competition when he ran his maiden race that day. Going wire to wire Giant Surprise won by more than four lengths. Unfortunately, this would be his last race. He was vanned off and was found to have a non-displaced condylar fracture in his left foreleg. After having successful surgery he was retired to Vinery’s New York Farm. I went up there one snowy morning in February and took lots of pictures of him as well as some of the other stallions. His fee is very reasonable (1 race, unproven) for all the royal blood that flows through his veins.
Here is a video of the race, and to no “surprise”, Sudden Surprise ran just like his sire, winning his maiden race wire-to-wire:

I couldn’t figure out what he had done to his tail? Didn’t know that horses were into “restyling” tails. Another very funny episode from our boy. Thanks Sheena!

Check out American Pharoah. Story is that Mr. Z restyled his tail. Zenyatta was well known for styling hair. She was good at it too.
Deb E.
Didn’t Mr. Z chew it off and AP, being so good-natured, let him?
