Since Saratoga gets a lot of coverage in our local papers, I will try to post tidbits from the papers that I think might be interesting. Here are some things from todays’ papers:
Judy the Beauty is entered in Wednesday’s Honorable Miss, the 4th race. She won this race last year.
Saturday’s Jim Dandy is expected to draw Texas Red, Materiality, Frosted, Upstart, Keen Ice & Tekton.
The Big Beast is pointing toward Saturday’s A.G. Vanderbuilt as are Rock Fall, Clearly Now, Departing, Salutos Amigos & Viva Majorca.
The weather in our area is predicted to be hot & humid with possible thunderstorms with temps in the high 80’s to mid 90’s through this week & into next. I hope that all trainers use common sense & use caution in exercising & racing their horses.
Laura J, thanks for posting about Ziconic. I hope the weather cools down soon so that I can go to see Coz & him. (I can’t handle the humidity.)
Judy Berube from Rhode Island
Dear Donna Z:
Thanks for this info. I can’t tolerate this heat and humidity either; AC 24/7. Love and Hugs, JB
Max
JudyB. The last snow in Boston only melted a few weeks ago. It was a very long winter. Enjoy the summer even with its heat because it cannot endure. – 30 will be back in no time.
Judy Berube from Rhode Island
Dear Max:
Believe it or not, I would welcome some snow right now. My biggest fear is losing power. All the AC’s on the East Coast are blasting.
Here is a lovely photo of Frank finding a way to keep cool. Smart bird. Love and Hugs, JB
https://www.dropshots.com/littlebigred/date/2015-07-28/20:19:04
Max
JudyB. To ward off the heat I think of those imposing snow banks, and how soon that they might be back. Just relax and don’t go out in the noon day sun. Always wear a hat.
Frank is definitely king of the emus. No chickens would dare invade his territory. How are the horses doing? Hope that they have fans. Dan always has his own fan. Storm Cat had air conditioning.
Judy Berube from Rhode Island
Dear Max:
Good advice.
Frank is “Big Bird” on the farm.
There are two lakes on the property that the horses utilize to keep cool and all the paddocks have shade trees. Angela takes Charlie and the other TBs inside during the extreme heat of the day.
Hudson’s barn is much smaller with 12 horses and a pony, so the horses go out in the paddock for a few hours and back in again for a few hours, sometimes two or three times a day. The girls are very happy with the place and Hudson is too. Thanks for asking for them. Love and Hugs, JB
maryp
Dear Donna and Judy,
I can’t tolerate the high humidity either since I have a respiratory condition. Need to stay in the A/C.
I happen to like thunder storms (not damaging ones) and have been at the races in Saratoga during a couple of them. I’m so partial to the place that it really doesn’t matter what the weather is. There is always such interesting races, horses, horse people and fans there! Lots going on this week. Thanks Donna.
Stay cool Judy.
Hugs to all,
Maryp
Judy Berube from Rhode Island
Dear Mary:
The high humidity and dew point do make it harder to breath. I have Asthma, so I can relate.
The Spa can be particularly uncomfortable in this humidity. It is a fabulous place; I always loved going there. Have a great time when you go. Love and Hugs, JB
Marshall (NC Broad)
Dear Judy B.,
Frank is one smart bird! I am with you when it comes to the heat and humidity — definitely in the cool to cold group. I do love snow, in moderate accumulations though.
Glad there are ponds on the property where Charlie and Hudson are. I remember seeing cows cooling off in ponds during the heat of summer. It obviously helps.
Take care!
Hugs and Love

Dear Donna, Thanks so much for all of the racing info. A big ‘Amen’ for trainers and owners (and jockeys) to exercise caution and common sense in racing this weekend (and always). The Jim Dandy sounds especially exciting! Hope you do get to see Ziconic and Coz – what a treat! Pray many of God’s blessings for you – especially for you not to get too hot in the steamy weather. with love, Elizabeth

Thanks for this great info Donna. The Jim Dandy looks really exciting!
Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
Thanks for the great information Donna. That Jim Dandy sounds like it will be REALLY “dandy” :-) Was sort of in the area last week but couldn’t rearrange the trip to coincide with Saratoga opening up. Would love to see it some day.

Donna,
It is going to be a very exciting weekend. Hope we get a little TV coverage here in Indy.
Love Texas Red, Departing and The Beast. Anxious to see how AF looks since they said he had lost some weight. My boy Lea goes next weekend!
Safe trip to all of them.

The weight loss must be hardly noticeable. Read that it was 20lbs only. Baffert just put a stop to his public appearances to get AP back to routine eating.

Some of us see solitude as a primary need-a time away from noisy routine to get our priorities in order. We want our quiet moments, but we want them by choice-not forced on us by circumstance.
We get to know ourselves in solitude. We question what brought us to this place, because we know it was not by accident. When we are with others we contemplate their way, but alone, we follow our own way. In quietness our strengths are fortified and made ready for those times when the sands run fast.
I am the man that makes it rain…I cause it to rain so the corn will grow.

Dear Kathy.I think Lone Wolf has been visiting the UK with all the rain we’ve had lately! At least it’s dry at Goodwood but definitely not glorious.!It’s quite cold here today. It looked as if Monty had dropped a fish(flounder I think)in the nest and Glesni flew in and didn’t even share with bobby bach.He looked quite puzzled. They have to grow up so quickly.Frankie won’t be in the Shergar cup this year because of the ban last Saturday accepts it was his own fault and will be babysitting!
The ratties have been getting licenses and Milo is off to Nasa to learn science stuffs but they are not allowed to carry livestock on a bus in Florida!Mr Fibbs is going to look for doughnuts!Lovely memorial for Titus the K-9 officer. And Mango looked so cute in her pink cowboy hat.Looks ready to return to Hollywoof!Do you remember Gizmo the foal at Catley Cross he enjoyed his open day and the best news about him Catley have officially adopted him! When I think how he survived the dark earlier days!Mr no Ears had been talking about Cecil and I signed a petition they spend millions of dollars in Australia culling feral cats instead of TNR.Mr No Ears and his colony are so fortunate to have Lyn and the volunteers to care for them.Oh poor Dolly she endured 44hrs without power in the stifling heat!Have a great day.Love and hugs to you, kisses for Holly,Nikko and Sugar.SheenaXOXO
Kathy
Dear Sheena,
Poor Bobby Bach…it must shock them when Mommy no longer mothers them so much. Poor Frankie, very frustrating for him! Yes, I saw the ratties with their licenses. Milo always so studious…Fibbs always looking for doughnuts! lol I’m so glad Titus is memorialized. Mango is a doll, as always. I do remember Gizmo. That’s great news that Catley has adopted him! Glad to hear of the petition you signed. Poor Dolly, she must have been suffering in all that heat with no AC. Please say prayers today for my aunt. She sees the doctors at Loma Linda today, hopefully will learn something definite about hip replacement surgery today. I’ll keep you posted! Have a great Tuesday. Love and hugs from me, kisses from Holly, Nikko and Sugar. Kathy XOXO

An American dentist Walter Palmer has been revealed as the killer of Cecil one of the world’s most famous lions. The hunter has know become the hunted!!!!How could he!Lots of abuse on social media.Sheena.
Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
What COULD he have been thinking? I’m so sorry about this “ugly American.” :-(
Bluegrass Girl
Sheena & Sandy
The tweets I read had not named him-just dentist from Minnesota.
Supposed story is: . He paid $55,000 for a hunting license
Cecil was lured out of the Park area where he is protected.
Dentist shot him with a bow and arrow-but did not kill him.
They had to track Cecil down and he actually was killed by a rifle shot.
There is a movement to try and get the Zimbabwe government
to stop issuing hunting license.
So many sad parts to story-one of which is Cecil was a young lion
who had conquered other males to take over the pride.
Now he is gone!

This type of “big game hunting” is sooo last century, early last century… I thought we knew better in this day and age. This man should be so ashamed of himself, yet in his “explanation” he calls it “my pursuit of an activity I love”! Killing a beautiful defenseless animal? For what possible reason? To feel proud, a sense of accomplishment? The mindset of people like this boggles my mind…
Mary Margaret in Georgia
I totally agree.

Dear BGG.His name is all over the British newspapers and TV.You should see the remarks on his FB presuming,of course,it is.Quite a few have popped up in his name. The slaughter has been condemned worldwide and it seems this man travels the world hunting endangered speciesThe manner of Cecil’s death has sickened me beyond words.Hugs Sheena.

No Canadian Triple Crown winner this year. Breaking Lucky, son of Looking at Lucky, won the Prince of Wales at Fort Erie by a head over Shaman Ghost, the winner of The Queen’s Plate. My favorite Danish Dynaformer was 6th of 7. Shaman Ghost, son of Ghostzapper, ran for Stronach Stables without any meds.
Judy Berube from Rhode Island
Dear Max:
Just read that in TDN. Congrats to Breaking Lucky on his win and Shaman and DD as well. Safe and sound most important. Love and Hugs, JB
Max
Breaking Lucky is a chestnut and fairly cheeky too. He came from last to win at 13-1 odds. Maybe the heat got to DD? They raced at 7:40 pm, but yesterday was a very hot day. Interesting to see if the Ghost stays at Woodbine for the last leg of the Crown on turf, or goes to Saratoga. His father and grandfather both won the BC Classic. Ghost is good looking like Ghostzapper.

Impressive Z style win by Breaking Lucky. Would be nice to see Ghost follow in his Daddy’s footsteps and race at The Spa. Love and Hugs, JB

It helps to turn away from daily events to the quiet of nature and feel the peace that permeates the wooded land, the silent hills, and all the wildlife that lives there.
At midday, a woodchuck suns himself. A coyote walks the craggy hill with tail tucked under as though he is already proven guilty. A raccoon sits on a high branch watching the world of nature. And it may be a place of quiet-but never of inactivity and never without reason. But somehow simply watching it balances human problems with inner spirit, and it is something to recall when disorder tries to rule.
I want to tell you all that is in my heart-and if I do not, it is because I hide it.

Dear Kathy. It’s a pity Walter Palmer couldn’t read your devotional today! A man plucked from total obscurity to global .infamy.Loads of soft toys lay outside his dental practice and notes on the door.As for social media you can just imagine. It seems he got into trouble for shooting a black bear in 2008.And,of course,he is blaming his guides now.
Anyway back to our furbabies it’s Miss Kitty’s birthday this week Loki isn’t too keen on the heat.He should come over here a little better today but still pretty cool.Rain has stopped play at Edgebaston but England have made a promising start 70-3(that’s the Aussie score)..Poor Bobby bach has many females to contend with Merin was eating last night and never offered him a share of her fish! They are all perched around the reserve today.Mango and sissy’s were scared of the boomers last night it’s awkward for them to go potty!Katy is eating very well now and much calmer she only has about 30% sight and hearing though.Hope it may improve in time. The kittens at Plantopia are so cute.I hope your Aunt had good news I will keep her in my thoughts and prayers. The ratties are doing well with their licenses and Souffern Carolina has UFO’sA winner for Aidan with Highland Reel in the Gordon Stakes!Hope you have a great day.Love and hugs to you,Kisses for Holly,Nikko and Sugar.SheenaXOXO.Thanks for signing the petition.
Kathy
Dear Sheena,
Walter Palmer is a despicable excuse for a human being. I hope he gets what’s coming to him. I haven’t visited Miss Kitty in a long time. Hope her birthday is happy. Wow…England is doing great at Edgebaston. I hope poor Bobby Bach maintains his weight! Poor Mango and her sissies. Thunder is terrifying for dogs. Holly is just now getting over the booms from the firecrackers associated with the 4th. We have monsoonal air starting again today and it will continue into next week. We are expecting rain in the mountains and the desert. We might very well hear thunder, too! Poor Holly! So glad little Katy is better. I pray she regains more sight. Love the kittens at Plantopia. Just precious! Thank you for praying for my Aunt. She had a good visit at the surgeon’s office. He is willing to do her surgery. Needs a CT scan. Then they’ll be able to put her on his surgery calendar. The ratties are doing great with their licenses. Wimbley got a book in the mail. He’ll have to hide it from Fibbs! If Pepperidge Farms ever decides to do an ad campaign featuring rats we know where to send them! Congratulations to Aidan and Highland Reel! Have a wonderful Hump Day. Love and hugs from me, kisses from Holly, Nikko and Sugar. Kathy XOXO
