@ Dawn C.-What a beautiful tribute to the Second Big Red I ever fell in love with!! Of course,Man O’ War was the first!! Since my computer at work has the sound turned off,I couldn’t hear the music, but I’ll try tonight,if I can get my monitor working again. Oh-how I get cross with things mechanical or electronic that do not work!!!SO aggravating!
@ Terry Crow-LOVED the limbo joke—what a hoot!!
@ Ann in NC-Thanks so much for the message and pat for Barnaby–I always give him those things and tell him about the friends he has here! he looks at me very intently,as though he is trying to process all the info I’m giving him. The expressions he gets on his face are really comical sometimes–I’m sure there are those who think a horse’s face cannot HAVE expressions, but they surely CAN!! Sometimes, when I am talking to him,I can just “see” the wheels going around in his head as he considers what I am saying!!
@ Judy B. and Sue C.–Thanks for the kind comments. He is such a miracle boy,I really love it when others enjoy hearing about him! I’ll never be able to fully express how much joy he has brought into my life and how much I treasure him.
Last night, when I went down after work, and rehearsal,it looked like the sky was going to open up any minute,so,I decided to put their hay into the shelters so they could have their supper and just settle in for the night. When I came into the pasture with the wheelbarrow,Barnaby wanted to steal the hay right off of it right away. When I told him NO and made a funny noise at him,he got the message and stepped back and nicely followed me out to the shelters. Of course,he HAD to have the first batch of hay. Then,I gave Traveller hers. There was too much hay in the wheelbarrow,so,I decided to take it back to the barn and Barnaby left hios hay in the shelter to follow right on my heels all the way back–guess he thought it might be better than what he had or something.I told him he was being a really silly boy,but he came anyway—he doesn’t want to miss a thing!!
Max
Sue. It looks like you and Barnaby are bonded. He loves your company and will even delay his meals for you. Great story as ever.
Terry Crow
Thanks for the comment, Sue. Sure looks like you and Barnaby were meant for each other. Glad you enjoyed the Legally Blond performance.

Hello my dear, dear Sue!!! So glad you enjoyed the tribute to my first boyfriend! :)) I know some people are having trouble listening to the music because the new Adobe update will not play the soundtrack for Smilebox. I will post it again for the Preakness and the Belmont, perhaps the sound problem will be corrected by then. Love, love, love you and your stories about life with your amazing Barnaby! You are one special lady!
Hugs, Dawn
Ann NC
Sue, that is too cute about your , Barnaby. I have seen those wheels spinning before, after I fell off my horse once and he hid behind a tree. Ha! Imagine him thinking he could not be seen behind that tree and then he was peeking at me,as if saying, she’s OK,I’m not in too much trouble.
Enjoy your ride, I’ll pray for good weather for you and B.

He’s moving up the ladder. Arlington has some toughies running up there about this time of year.
Lisa’s Booby Trap, the horse without one eye and a bad foot named after the trainer’s late wife, won her return to the races. She beat the other Finger Lakes legend mare and two of the older boys! At 6, she’s still showing them how it is done! Congrats to her as well!

HAPPY,HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO OUR FAVORITE MUSIC MAN–THE GREAT JERRY MOSS!!!
Hope your day is as wonderful as all of the ones you have given to us by sharing your precious Zenyatta and her sons with us!!! It was such an honor to meet you and Ann at the BC Party last November and to get to ride down in the elevator with you both as we all headed home from Santa Anita.I will never forget it–and when I asked Ann to give Zenyatta a hug from all the Zsters next time you visited and she said “I most definitely WILL”,it meant SO much! Pati. Wow! Congrats. You should tweet something to Kauto about SHERR. He’d be glad to know that horses are being cared for by great people.
Pati- The Orb Wagon for TC
Here is some of their background information:
They are two Nursing Mare foals rescued by the Dream Equine therapy group.
The filly, the dark one, is three months old. She is on creep feed. The light one, the colt, is four weeks old, and he is drinking milk from a bucket.
He is going to be much taller than his friend, as he is still so much younger than she, and already almost her height.
Pati- The Orb Wagon for TC
SHERR took them in to help out DET.

All this talk of birthdays reminded me I missed Sally B’s birthday two days ago! I’ll be back in a bit with a poem for Mr. Moss, but first I would like to repost Sally’s poem from a year ago (sorry I don’t have a new one, Sally!)
A Birthday Poem for Sally B.
(May 6, 2012)
Dearest Sally,
When you tally
Your blessings
On this birthday,
I’m guessing
You’ll say
Like many another
That family and close friends
(Human, canine and equine)
Top the list
Of what brings you bliss
And makes life for you fine.
In the family line,
Your kin
Includes two sisters (one a twin)
And a brother.
Before 2011
The latter’s health was in steep decline,
But his life was saved in the nick of time–
It may have been that your dear mother,
Already up in heaven
And thus in close proximity
To the Divinity,
Sought God’s help for your ailing brother.
Perhaps she stood right by God’s ear
And confided to Him her greatest fear —
That her son
From this earth would depart
Before his time here was done
For want of a healthy heart.
His own was failing–
Indeed he had only days left to live
Before he would breathe his last
When a matching donor to the next life passed
And was able to give
The life-saving bequest
That fulfilled a request
Made from desperation.
’Twas on the birthday
Of their mother
That Sally’s brother
Woke post-operation
With a new heart in his chest
And felt so deeply blessed.
Sally and her husband
Raised two sons
And now with two granddaughters
And one grandson
Have tons and tons
Of fun
Though those young ’uns
Recently caught her
Falling off a pogo stick!
Though it roused laughter
All around,
Sally found
It taught her
Her reflexes on that pogo stick
Might not be all that quick
As before,
And she’d like you to know
That thereafter
She chose to forego
Any more
Pogo!
Loyal readers here
Will recall
That Sally B and Sue Fredrick
Have been BFFs for many a year—
In fact they’ve been pals
Since they were both single gals.
Sally and Sue
Always found much to do,
Hiking, biking and riding,
Often with a dog along too.
Then both married
And yet their friendship forward carried,
First having great fun
As a young foursome,
Then raising families
With many joint activities.
Sally and her hubby
Remain to this date
Delightfully chummy
With Sue
And Sue’s wedded mate
Though now it’s a bit harder to do
Since the Fredricks did move
Ninety-some miles away.
Undaunted by distance, yesterday–
On the renowned
First Saturday
Of May—
The four, reunited, could be found
Where the Fredrick family now dwells
In the vicinity of Wisconsin Dells.
They all gathered ’round
A TV
The Derby to see,
Mint juleps in hand.
Each cheered of course
For their favorite horse
As the Thoroughbreds churned
Out of that final turn
And charged before the grandstand
To where Destiny
The winner awaited!
I’ll Have Another was fated
The roses to wear–
And indeed
He was one of the many
For whom Sally did care,
As she a week ago related.
Though she thought any
Of the entered twenty
Could carry the day,
Another of her stated picks
Was Mikie’s Bodemeister,
The gallant steed
Who for most of the race
Was on the lead
Setting the pace
And who gamely held on to place.
Surely this brought Sally a measure
Of pleasure,
But she had confessed
What she would truly like best:
Since she A P Indy does so treasure,
She was wishing
That the race might be won
By the A P Indy son
Who wound up finishing
Ahead of just one.
Jockey Calvin Borel
Had positioned Take Charge Indy well,
But when his pace
Began diminishing,
It became clear,
I fear,
That in this Derby race
He wasn’t on his game.
All the same,
Dear Sally, don’t dismay–
I feel confident to say
That this kin
Of your beloved A P Indy
Will return to race and WIN
Some other day.
Dear Sally,
You’ll be
Homeward bound
Today,
And along the way
Perhaps you’ll fondly contemplate
Possibilities
For the Triple Crown.
Once you’re again in town,
Your family will congregate
And very soon
This Sunday afternoon
Your home will reverberate
With happy sounds
All around
As you your birthday celebrate–
We hope it’s the best to date!

@ Sally B. in WI–It surely IS fun to see your grandchildren perform well-whatever they are doing!! Nina has loved musical theatre since she was teeny–she did her first scene from a Rogers and Hammerstein musical for me before she was 3!! She has pointed herself toward it as a career all of her life, and has studied it at college for the last two years. She has one more year at her chosen college and then hopes to attend a famed drama school in NY after that. It is glorious seeing her excel at something that she so loves to do!!
Sandy (Northeast Ohio) PUR, PUJ
Sue – I’m way behind with responding to peeps, but I also think it was terrific that you were able to get to California and see your granddaughter perform. She sounds like a rising star, and I hope things work out for her as far as a musical career is concerned. Apparently musical talent runs in the family :-)

I should have put a P.S. on that last post—-if any of you live near Golden West College,in Long Beach,CA,,”Legally Blonde” will be performed this Thursday night thru Saturday night at 8PM and a Sunday matinee at 2PM. It’s a really fun show, with a fabulous director and a very talented cast–you will have a good time if you have time to check it out!!Their theatre is really beautiful and it’s a lovely campus to walk about. There are lots of restaurants near,so you could make a night of it!

Yes, I would like to reiterate. Ensign we miss you very much here. Your great information was so much appreciated. Come back if you hear us.
Ensign, I think it was you that helped my feelings about the stallions in Japan very much late that night when they had the earthquake. You told where they were and that they were Ok.
Now, I just wish you were here and could help us find my Gabbiano. Very upsetting.

To Ensign, I too miss you being here very much. wish you would come back. You sure answered my questions many times. I believe it was you too that helped my feelings very much remember when they had the earthquake in Japan. I was very worried about the stallions in Japan that night. You came on here and told where they were and that they were ok
I sure wish you could help us find my Gabbiano. Judy and I are looking really hard for her.

A Birthday Poem for Jerry Moss
(May 8, 2013–revised from last year)
Dear Mr. Moss,
The M of the A & M label,
We’re glad that your path did cross
With that then nameless filly
Known at Keeneland as hip 703,
Who would come to be
The world-renowned Z.
Dear Music Man,
You were blessedly able
Together with your incomparable Ann
Yearling Z’s
Potential to see,
And you set her on course
To fulfill her destiny
As this century’s
Greatest horse!
“Zenyatta”—her name
From your music came,
And she heard the music too
And danced for us and for you
A victory dance before each race was run,
Confident of the outcome.
These dances sprang from her inner core
For this racing warrior
Delighted in nothing more
Than outrunning all she saw before her.
Dear Mr. Moss,
You spared no training cost
And allowed her time to grow.
’Twas November of her third year
When she her races began,
And then, oh my, how she ran!
Nineteen wins in a row
In her brilliant racing career,
And she claimed her place
As acknowledged Queen
Of the racing scene.
Then came her time
For transitioning
To be a mom,
And you with your team
Created this marvelous balm
Known as Zenyatta.com,
Which did so much to calm
Those fans facing future despair
When the Queen
Nowhere
Would be seen.
When Z left behind the backside
Of the Hollywood Park track
And its So Cal palms
To go back
To again reside
To her native Kentucky,
We were so very lucky
That Team Z did so much
To keep us all with her in touch.
Dear Mr. Moss,
This world has so many ways
To separate gold from the dross.
With Herb Alpert you rose straight to the top
And never did stop.
Now we know you and your Ann
As Thoroughbred breeders and owners
And charitable donors
Extraordinaire,
Who so graciously do share
Your wonderful mare
With every fan.
Your generosity we’ll never forget!
We’re forever in your debt
And remain at a loss
To suitably thank you
For all that you do!
Happy birthday, Mr. Moss, and many happy returns!
Dawn Conrad / Colorado
Dear Trina, such a wonderful poem! Once again you have express so well what we all feel!

It is a joke that the Illinois Derby was not allocated any points this year. Of course, Churchill Downs is affiliated with Arlington Park and Arlington and Hawthorne have a feud going. You don’t think that had anything to do with it do you?

Jerry, we hope you had a wonderful birthday and truly feel the appreciation we all have for you as you continue to let us follow Zenny and her colts life journey. As the head of Team Z you have given us so much…Thank You.

“Visiting Zenyatta” with Richard Migliore and Steve Haskin, I had not seen this video in some time, but I Love, love, love it, especially when the guys talk on leaving, about the “energy she gives off” and how different and unique it is, trying to define “it”. We can all relate, in our own experience of her, the one, the only Zenyatta, long live the Queen.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AKEfDX4WTn4&feature=youtu.be

Vicke, this video confirms (to me) that our Zenny has a unique sprititual quality about her that even “hardened” horsemen cannot mistake. Thanks for providing the link so all who visit here have the opportunity to see her magic in action.
