The death has been announced of Jockey Walter Swinburn at the untimely age of 55.He will be forever associated with the immortal Shergar who won the Epsom Derby by 10lengths in 1981.Walter was only 19 at the time and nicknamed the choirboy. He went to win the Derby 2 more times. He survived a crashing fall at Sha Tin in 1996 and returned to win a Breeders Cup.Problems with weight eventually brought retirement and he took up training,
All racing fans will remember Shergar’s tragic end.Now Walter is with him and they cam reminisce about Epsom.Sleep tight Walter.God bless you.Love SheenaRIP

Dear Judy.A very sad day for UK racing fans with the deaths of Walter Swinburn and Grand National winner Lord Gyllene.Walter was yet another tortured genius born to ride a horse but as with many other jockeys suffered weight issues and became bulimic,He also developed epilepsy after his fall at Sha Tin.Many tributes tonight.Lord Gyllene had the most wonderful life won the GN the year of the bombscare.
On a lighter note the panda cubs were named Ya Lun and Xi Lun the names I voted for. They are growing so fast.Goodnight God bless you LM PC HT Cap Hercules Frank Bentley and all the sweeties.Love and hugs SheenaX

Dear Sheena,
God’s blessings to the families of Walter Swinburn and Lord Gyllene. The jockeys all have such a hard life, but I know almost all would not trade their life for some other one.
On the lighter and ‘newest’ side – congratulations for picking such great names for the cubs! Will have to look up the ‘meanings’ of their names. Will look forward to updates on them.
Hope you have a wonderful evening/morning over across the sea.

Dolphus, With Addition Of Blinkers, Splashes To Commanding Victory
In Gulfstream Allowance
by Press Release | 12.11.2016 The Paulick Report
Big things had always been expected from Dolphus, especially since he is a half-brother to 2009 Horse of the Year Rachel Alexandra.
The son of Lookin At Lucky did win two of his first three starts, heightening expectations, but he has been disappointing during his 3-year-old season until Sunday at Gulfstream Park. The Joe Sharp-trained colt broke through with a commanding 9 ½–length victory in the featured fourth race, a $45,000 optional claiming allowance

Dolphus is a German name that means “noble majestic wolf.”

Dear BGG,
Dolphus is a real beauty — another member of the Chestnut Club? Glad he was successful again at last. Perhaps the blinkers, the one turn and the sloppy track all worked together for him. Wishing him continued good fortune and good health. Congratulations!

Pedigree Insights: Mastery
By Andrew Caulfield TDN Monday, December 12, 2016
Thanks to alliteration, the words Super Saturday just trip off the tongue and consequently they have been applied to a wide range of events. For Lane’s End Farm, though, the latest Super Saturday was just three days ago, when two of the farm’s stallions monopolized the Grade I juvenile events at Los Alamitos.

Dear BGG,
Thanks for the link about Mastery with mention of Abel Tasman. Things are looking good for both Candy Ride and Quality Road as sires! May everyone of them stay safe, healthy, and enjoy the races.

Nutrition, or the lack of it, plays a large part in our ups and downs. What we feed our bodies goes hand in hand with what we take into our minds. Since mind, body, and spirit work together as a whole, we cannot ignore any part of ourselves and expect to bet a good performance. We must be balanced in what we eat, in what we think, and in what we believe. And there’s nothing wrong in asking for help in any of these areas-it’s a sign of wisdom to do so. The rewards of asking are well worth the effort.
I want to tell you that our rations have been reduced to almost nothing. Many of our people have starved to death.
-Sitting Bull, Sioux
sheena.davies(wales)
Dear Kathy.Talking about starving there is a humanitarian crisis in the Yemen and we had an appeal on the radio today.Sad situation.
A sad day for UK racing fans yesterday with the deaths of Walter Swinburn and Lord Gyllene. Both brought back memories of the IRA.I remember trainer Jenny Pitman was worried about the horses getting upset about the bombscare and of course we all remember Shergar.I flitted in and out racing during the 80’s and 90’s and didn’t see All Along win the Arc.She buried at Three Chimneys.Swinburn will forever be associated with Shergar. They say he died peacefully at home but no cause given.I have just been watching Lord Gyllene’s win on you tube.It was such a joy to watch him jumping those famous fences and loving every minute plus he had a wonderful life post racing with the Clarkes.
Felix has some big news tomorrow she has been getting lots of gifts and cards.Valegro and Charlotte are settling in at Olympia ready for their last hurrah. We won’t get any chance of seeing the super moon it’s too cloudy and damp.Zoe had a lovely story up about a disabled vet and his dog.The finale of Planet Earth beat the X factor final with viewing figures.I gave up on the X factor years ago.The 13th day of Christmas with Larry an overweight puss!I am glad all went well with Ray yesterday and I continue to pray for him.Not long to the shortest day and thoughts of spring!I forgot about Blueberry’s birthday last week lovely pic of him as a pup and good to see Marty up on FB after a long day of internashunal bizness.Have a great day.Love and hugs to you,Kisses for Angel Holly,Nikko and Sugar.SheenaXOXO
Kathy
Dear Sheena,
There is much suffering in many parts of the world. We all need to thank God that we live in areas that are free, peaceful, and no food shortages. A shame about Swinburn. Way too young. I will look for Lord Gyllene on YouTube. Will look forward to Felix’s big news. Valegro and Charlotte will be must watch TV. I hope to see the super moon tonight. I was so relieved to see Zoe back, no news from her yesterday…technical issues. Good for Planet Earth! I gave up on X Factor, too. Good news that Larry is done now with the 12 Days of Christmas! Ray is doing so well with his chemo treatments. All the prayers worked! Bluebeary is a very good-looking dog! Always good to see Marty. I wish you a great day as well. Love and hugs from me, kisses from Angel Holly, Nikko and Sugar. Kathy XOXO

Dear Ingrid:
The horse that is unable to travel to come home to Old Friends is not Azeri, the mare. It’s Arazi, a stallion. He was born in 1989 (Blushing Groom) and is 27 now. He’s in Australia. Here’s a photo of the beautiful Chestnut boy.
I believe Azeri is still a broodmare in Japan. Love and Hugs, JB

Judy,
He is a beauty. I hope he is a very successful sire. And, I don’t care what anyone else says, he is my pick for HOY! His wins in Dubai were outstanding and his USA races were a joy to behold. Arrogate might have beaten him once but does not have the record that Chromie does. Will be sad to see him retire but great to see him go out happy and healthy.
Judy B from Rhode Island
Dear Shirlee:
So good to hear from you. Hope you’re doing well.
I agree, CC’s my pick too for HOY. I read he may be going in a race this month and in the Pegasus at Gulfstream in January. I would like to see him retired; he’s got nothing to prove and he’s earned it many times over. What a brave Warrior he is! Love our Chestnut boy. Love and Hugs, JB

Dear Abigail:
Another Masterpiece; lovely, thorough and interesting. Thank you so very much for sharing it with us. The Count was one of my Mom’s favorites and JL was a genius horseman. Thank you again.
Wishing you and yours a Very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. Love and Hugs, JB
Abigail1849
Judy: So pleased you enjoyed it and isn’t it fun that The Count was a favourite in your family too. I send you and yours much love and festive greetings for Christmas and all through the coming New Year!
Marshall (NC Broad)
Dear Abigail,
A masterful tour de force! What a wonderful article you have given us for Christmas. I enjoyed reading and learning about the superb Count Fleet. No wonder your grandfather was so enamored! And to think, Count Fleet lived until 1973 — 30 years old. I’m glad he had a nice long life. He was still here when Secretariat won his Triple Crown; how special that is to you.
Thank you for this beautiful article and for the photos/videos. I love this story!
Merry Christmas to you, Happy New Year and more lovely articles from The Vault in 2017!
Hugs and Love, dear friend
Abigail1849
Marshall: Your message is so beautiful & I deeply appreciate it. You know, I didn’t realize that The Count lived into 1973 until I was close to finishing the article and, like you, I thought “How perfect!” Sending you loving and spritely wishes for the holidays and throughout the New Year, dear friend.

We all experience difficult moments in life when anything worthwhile seems far away. At those hard times, it pays to remember similar moments when we have doubted our ability to cope. As we look back, we realize that we did cope then, and life went on-many times in ways that we never expected. Difficult times, as hard as they may be to walk through, are not permanent. They cannot take away the best part of what we know and feel. The fact that we have known peace makes us know we will have it again-in greater portions, in sweeter times, in more lasting ways, because we are children of Spirit. We bloom like the flowers.
Time was divided into years and seasons; twelve moons for a year, a number of years by so many winters.

Dear Kathy.I often wondered how I could cope with my parents final days and health issues but somehow I came out the other side and time is the great healer.Sad to see the ceasefire has ended in Aleppo before it really began.Alaa and Yassar are safe so far they posted photos last night.Very tense at the UN yesterday.
Felix was on ‘Look North’ last night and the big news is her book will be published in the spring! She is an internet sensation now.Videos of Valegro on his FB and Carl won the Grand Prix last night on Barney(Hovis’s coaching a couple of years ago).Thrilled to bits for him.Poor Phineous has joined Marty and Wimbley in Heaben remember when they granulated from the school of internashunal bizness.Sad they have such short lives. It seems cool in Libya now Dolly and Harry have their coats on and Dolly was resting.Mango and Mattie packed up Katybug’s garden yesterday and left little notes for her so she knowswhere they live now they also had haircuts!
If the weather forecast is to be believed we are due a lot of snow and ice over Christmas our worst winter since 62/63.I am too old for the cold now.I well remember that winter the modern generation would never cope.
Nicky Morgan of trousergate fame has pulled out of “Have I got news for you”Evie is thinking of taking her place.Last PMQ’s today before their Christmas holidays.Larry is quiet today eaten too many birds perhaps?Have a lovely day.Love and hugs to you,Kisses for Angel Holly,Nikko and Sugar.SheenaXOXO

Dear Sheena,
Yes, such a sad situation in Aleppo. Only by the grace of God are we elsewhere! That’s wonderful news about Felix’s book! I’ll look for Valegro’s videos. How thrilling! Congratulations to Carl and Barney! RIP Phineous. They have very short lives…I remember well when he granulated! Glad Dolly can enjoy some cool weather! I know it broke Mango and family’s hearts to move away from Katybug. Good that they left her little notes. Snow and ice…I can’t relate! Stay warm. Good luck to Nicky, Evie and Larry! I wish you a lovely day, too. Love and hugs from me, kisses from Angel Holly, Nikko and Sugar. Kathy XOXO
