Tonight we said an emotional goodbye to the greatest equestrian twosome in the world Valegro and Charlotte Dujardin.Without the stress of competition Valegro performed his 2012 gold winning routine to perfection. There are just not enough superlatives to describe Valegro suffice to say we were privileged to be around in his lifetime. He has left the stage with us wanting more.I wish him a long and happy life at home with Carl and his devoted groom Alan plus Charlotte wants him to be guest of honour at her wedding.Thank you Valegro for lighting up our lives.God bless you Blueberry.Love Sheena.

Riding high once more: the amazing comeback of Rajiv Maragh
Teresa Genaro TRC December 14, 2016
“I remember it fully,” said jockey Rajiv Maragh, sitting in the jocks’ room at Aqueduct Racetrack. Many trauma victims have no memory of a catastrophic event, often describing waking up in a hospital and wondering how they got there. But Maragh remembers every detail of the event that sent him speeding away from the track in an ambulance to a trauma center and 17 months of recovery.

Dear Judy B.,
Thanks for both of these links! Enjoyed them very much and am so glad Game on Dude is doing well. The employees were certainly on their toes to pick up on his being not quite himself, and thank goodness, Old Friends staff acted quickly by getting him to the veterinary. Seems this was a time when fixing one problem led to the discovery of an even more dangerous defect which could be remedied with less risk than it might have been later.
Happy grazing, Dude!

Judy,
Thanks for the info about the beautiful Chrome. As he gets closer to retirement, I find myself being more anxious than ever for his safety during a race. Godspeed and thanks for the fun he has given during his career.

December 15 Cherokee Devotional
Sometimes we are nagged by the feeling that we are not getting. That feeling should remind us to remain steadfast and stay focused on our goal. A goal is achieved by the blending of time, effort, and, most of all, the belief in what we are working toward. When we have a worthwhile goal, we keep plugging along. Though every step may seem very small, when we look back we suddenly find we have covered a great distance. It is those little steps that get us where we are going. One by one they make progress, like drops of water eroding stone. Great strides impress us, but we seldom make them.
Remember the fable of the race between the hare and the tortoise: it was the one who was faithful and steadfast, the one who made small, steady steps, who reached his goal. You can do the same.
I was living peaceably and satisfied until people began to speak bad of me.

Dear Kathy.I well remember the tortoise and the hare.I wonder if that’s why they live such a long time slow and steady. It’s very mild here today almost springlike it will be a shock to the system if the cold comes.Busy today in town I was late coming home.I have shared some of Valegro’s special night on my FB.There is a video of his routine on the BBC website but only available in the UK.It’s remarkable how he was able to remember that whole routine from 2012 and be foot perfect.I cried through it all!He is going out to the Netherlands in February and Charlotte wants to ride him at her wedding. It was great to see Carl win the freestyle too.(Hovis did coach Nip and Tuck shop after all).Harry and Meghan’s romance is hotting up but a royal correspondent cannot see it lasting.Pippa’s wedding reception will be at her parents home.
I only learned today Garrett rode Blame.A sad end for him and so young.Hope Chromie will be able to run on Saturday.Larry is sitting by the Downing Street Christmas tree waiting for his presents.Mother Theresa is in Brussels today she was an award ceremony last night all in red very glam. Now I am getting to visit the furbabies.Have a great day.Love and hugs to you,Kisses for Angel Holly,Nikko and Sugar.SheenaXOXO
Kathy
Dear Sheena,
I think you’re onto something about the tortoise’s longevity! Enjoy the pleasant weather before the predicted cold blast! I will look for Valegro on your FB. I’m bummed that his video is only available in the UK! He is literally 1 in a million. I’m so pleased for Carl. Good job, Hovis! We’ll have to wait and see about Harry and Meghan. Hope we will see lots of pics from Pippa’s wedding reception. Yes, a very sad end for Garrett. I didn’t know he rode Blame. Fingers crossed for Chromie. I’m sure the anticipation is very difficult for Larry. Mother Theresa…the fashion plate! Have fun visiting the furbabies. Love and hugs from me, kisses from Angel Holly, Nikko and Sugar. Kathy XOXO

‘Brilliant’ Gomez Remembered by Friends
By Alicia Wincze-Hughes The Blood-Horse December 15, 2016
The thing that always resonated most with Ron Anderson about Garrett Gomez is how much his former rider cared—how much he cared for the 21,655 mounts he guided to a total of 3,771 victories, how he cared for his comrades in the jockeys’ room and the clients he rode for, how he seemingly put everyone and everything above himself.

Dear Z’sters,
Steve Haskin has once again written an outstanding article. This one is about Dr. Fager — possibly the fastest horse to grace the tracks. He was amazing! Steve mentions another favorite, too — Rachel Alexandra.

Dear Marshall.Another fascinating article from Mr Haskin.I well remember Braulio Baeza. He rode Roberto in the Benson and Hedges gold cup in 72’and beat our mile champion the great Brigadier Gerard. He just went like a bat out of hell from the stalls the Brigadier’s only defeat in an 18 race career.Love and hugs Sheena
