Happy Thursday!
For those of you late-running holiday shoppers, the Zenyatta Shop can still put you in the winners circle for the holidays. All Zenyatta Shop domestic orders (except personalized items) placed prior to Wednesday 12/19 will be delivered in time for Christmas. We can even accommodate purchases placed before 12/21 with overnight delivery. Let Zenyatta take the worry out of gift-giving and have the happiest of holidays this year!
We’d also like to note that Zenyatta Collectors who purchased the now sold-out limited edition Breyer Glossy Foal at the Zenyatta Shop are proving to be savvy investors. These very special foals are now selling on the secondary market for prices as high as $200 each. That’s an amazing eight-fold return on the initial offering price in only two months! For those of you interested in our other limited edition keepsakes, we wanted to give fair warning we have less than 30 pieces of the Zenyatta Plushie left in stock, and the Little Zen pewter figurines are going fast with very few remaining pieces left in the golden version of the edition. Don’t get left at the gate if you want one of these coveted Zenyatta collectibles!
Edit: These items are no longer available. January 2013.

I buy everything for myself the minute I see it before anyone else has a chance to buy me holiday gifts! Ha! I’ve seen that limited edition Zenyatta foal go for lots of money on eBay. So glad I bought mine here. Junior is in his box sitting right next to Big Mama Z. Thanks for offering this to fans!
suew/Va
Team Z, the mug has been out of stock for days. Please have more available for order…I know more than a few fans who would love to purchase them.

Any news on the DVD?

I’m looking for that, too. Since “hot” items sell out very quickly I don’t want to miss out on getting one, or two or three…
Brenda S., Fort Erie, Canada
Thanks to Trina for her amazing poems for Victoria in celebration of her birthday today. She’s feeling really grown up now that she’s 19, so I guess there’s no stopping her now – she can legally place her own bets at the track, order a drink and play the slots at the casino!!! I think Vic posted her own thanks earlier, so thank you all from me for your good wishes on her special day.
DebbieG
I hope Vic had a fabulous birthday, Brenda. It sounds like she’s off to a good start. She can drink and gamble legally now. How exciting. Most of us had to wait until we were 21! We need to start thinking about a Dumpling trip to Saratoga next year.
Celeste_in_TX
Wow! Thanks so much for bringing these new items to my attention!! I’m going to send my family a few well-timed hints – my birthday is one week before Christmas! Woohoo!

Dear Team Z.
I love all of these items, but am currently on a tight budget. Hopefully, I will order several items after Christmas is over. Love to all. Darlene

Best of luck with your party, Darlene! No one will notice your silverware, I’m sure. They’ll just enjoy spending time with you.

Dear Darlene, as one of the lucky people, along with Debbie G and Sandy above, who got to spend time with you at the BC, I know Debbie is right–your guests will have no thought for the silverware but will delight in your company. Have fun! Hugz.

Hi Zenyatta Family. I showed Homeroom 215 the new pictures of Zenyatta and Baby Z. How can one not be touched by the love in them. I am also going to show them throughout the day.
i love all my Zenyatta things and can’t believe the Breyer is now selling for $200. Mine is not for sale. I love Baby Z to much : )

Santa Anita: My Miss Aurelia to start in La Brea
By Steve Andersen Daily Racing Form 12/13/2012 5:13PM

Shirreffs Says Eblouissante More Alert
12/13/2012 5:35 AM | horseracingnation.com
If the Grade I, $750,000 CashCall Futurity and the Grade II, $250,000 Hollywood Turf Cup are the main courses on Saturday’s Betfair Hollywood Park card, then the return of Zenyattta’s little sister, Eblouissante, in the fourth race – a $48,000 optional claimer at 1 1/16 miles over Cushion Track – is a gourmet appetizer.
The nearly black daughter of Bernardini and Vertigineux, who produced 2010 Horse of the Year Zenyatta and multiple Grade I winner Balance, made her long awaited debut Nov. 16 and didn’t disappoint. Replicating Zenyatta’s patented stretch run, Eblouissante gathered steam into the far turn, swung out for clear sailing and drew away to win by 4 ¼ lengths under jockey Corey Nakatani.
Asked whether she has matured mentally or physically out of the race, trainer John Shirreffs said it’s a little early to say.
“She’s a little more alert, you might say,” said Shirreffs, who also conditioned Zenyatta. “The race woke her up a little. I haven’t really done much with her since the race. She breezed once and we’ve just tried to get her to settle down into a nice, calm routine. She’s been eating fine and there haven’t been any problems.”
Shirreffs indicated that owner-breeder Eric Kronfeld and a small group of friends will be flying in to see the race.
Eblouissante resides in the same stall occupied by Zenyatta throughout her career.

Hi Keta,
Thanks so much for all of the information you give us all! Haven’t been on the website but just a few snatches the past few months. Can’t wait to catch up.
Many blessings to everyone here in Z’s Family. Love the pics of Jerry & Ann Moss with Zenny. Such a smile on Momma Z!

Great article. Interesting comment from John about Ebby: “She’s a little more alert…the race woke her up a little.” Too cute! Thanks, Keta.

Dear Trina,
Jon White HRTV said John Sherriffs, when asked about some differences
between “E” and “Z”, “Z” had very large hind quarters and a huge chest.
Where has “E” is close to or as tall as “Z”, with samller hind quarters and chest,
more like a Bernardini. Love all of his comparisons.
GO GO GO “E”, those older “girls” may be tough, but you can do it !!!!
DebbieG
I’m so excited! When I met Mr. Moss at the BC, he told me that he was having dinner at the Heirloom restaurant in Midway when he got the call that Zenyatta was in labor. I’m going there for dinner tonight! I can’t wait to talk to the people there and ask them how well they know the Mosses and if they were there when they got “the call”. Hopefully they’ll have some good stories to tell. :-)

Can’t wait to hear the story.

Contentious CashCall Futurity Set Saturday
By Jack Shinar The Blood-Horse
Updated: Thursday, December 13, 2012 3:54 PM
He’s Had Enough, who missed by a head winning the Grey Goose Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (gr. I) last month, and Nashua Stakes (gr. II) victor Violence square off against a quartet from the Bob Baffert barn in the $750,000 CashCall Futurity (gr. I) Dec. 12 at Betfair Hollywood Park
Eleven 2-year-olds are entered in what shapes up as a terrific running of the final major 2-year-old test of the year nationally. Contested at 1 1/16 miles on the Cushion Track, the CashCall Futurity is part of a program that includes the $250,000 Hollywood Turf Cup (gr. IIT). The Futurity is the ninth on the penultimate card of the 2012 autumn meet with a probable post time of 4:35 p.m. PST.
Baffert has won three of the past four CashCall Futurity renewals and has captured a record six overall (the race was previously known as the Hollywood Futurity). The Hall of Fame conditioner will be represented this year by stakes winners Den’s Legacy, Carving, and Really Mr Greely, as well as Title Contender. Baffert decided to start all four colts after each worked extremely well Dec. 9 and 10 at Santa Anita Park.
The Baffert-trained Really Mr Greely was an impressive gate-to-wire winner of the seven-furlong Hollywood Prevue (gr. III) Nov. 22 at odds of 11-1, earning a 98 Beyer speed figure, the best in this year’s Futurity field. Owned by Karl Watson, Mike Pegram, and Paul Weitman, the son of Horse Greeley will need to answer the distance question this time, having never been longer than seven furlongs. The Kentucky-bred colt has won his past two starts and will be ridden for the first time by Mike Smith

Oh my goodness, I’m watching the news now about the school shooting in Connecticut. What has this world come to? It seems like every time you turn on the TV there’s been another shooting. I’m just speechless. If someone is troubled and wants to end it all, why do they feel they have to take innocent people down with them? This is simply heartbreaking.
Vicki B. near Hollywood Park
You’re right, Debbie. It may sound cold, but I’d rather they just took themselves out of the picture, if they are that unhappy.
Pretty much how I felt on reading about the “man” who was seen tying & dragging a horse 100 yds. behind his pickup, and kicking it in the neck before departing. The horse lost large chunks of hide, but surprisingly is recovering well in a rescue, and the “man” was identified and is being sought. He has a previous warrant for animal cruelty. This is sick, sick, sick.

Oh my god! I just read about it in Connecticut, worse than I could have imagined!

Here is the good news:
http://www.paulickreport.com/features/three-chimneys-presents-good-news-friday/three-chimneys-presents-good-news-friday-the-tale-of-great-fortune/
The bad news is that this is happening way, way too often. Itis a disgrace to the nation, as is the situation in Connecticut. Prayers for those who have lost family members.
Trina Nagele in SoCal
Thanks for the feel-good-in-the-end story of the rescue of Silver Option and her in utero foal, now the three-year-old Magna Fortuna. Good luck to him on the track at Hawthorne Dec. 26.
And yes, far too many horses need rescuing. As Gail Vacca of the Illinois Equine Humane Center (ILEHC), the rescuer of these two, says, “Every horse has an owner. Every owner has a responsibility.” And as for the wild horses, they are national treasures that belong to all of us, and all of us bear responsibilty to stand up to the BLM, which is exterminating them.
Trina Nagele in SoCal
OOPS, Magna Fortuna is still a two year old.

A Birthday Poem for Kim S. in Tampa, FL
December 15, 2012
Kim S.
Has always been blessed
With a love for the horse.
As a child,
She watched races just on TV
Till one day with her dad
She went to the Tampa Bay course.
They both were so glad
In person to see
Racing royalty
At Tampa Bay Downs–
The crowds’ cheers
Were wild
And their joy knew no bounds.
For two years
They had a weekly “date”
To see magnificent steeds
Compete on that track.
Now as Kim looks back,
She treasures those days
Before Fate
Must needs
In gradual ways
Led their paths to separate.
Years passed,
Then at last
Came the incomparable Z,
Who won racing glory
And then continued her story
In her dazzling diary.
Kim’d always had a proclivity
To help small creatures in need,
Be they canine or kitty,
But now she on Z’s pages did see
News from Susan in Tennessee
‘Bout her horse rescue activity—
Those posts formed a vital link
That brought
Kim to think
Of going to see
A rescue in her vicinity
Known as Equestrian Inc.
Almost in the blink
Of an eye,
Kim drove by
And began to pitch in–
Soon she was right in the swim.
One thing to another led
When she did see
Sweet William—
A former racing Thoroughbred,
Whose track name used to be
Which Way Do I Go.
Soon Kim was chipping in
To sponsor him!
Now you should know
William has a favorite mare
For whom he does care
And about whom he’s quite jealous
And perhaps a bit over-zealous
In efforts to keep other males away
Who too close to her stray.
It came to pass one day
When each was secure in a stall,
That William still all in all
Felt the need
To offer his Lacey protection
And on that was intent
While
Into the barn’s center aisle
Wandered Laddie, a mini,
Who was very content
On the hay spilled there to feed.
Well, he didn’t escape detection—
William reached out
And grabbed that mini by the neck
And lifted him half into the air.
Thank goodness Kim was there!
Before the laminitic mini
Could even whinny
Or by William be flung around,
And she threw her hands in the air—
Right away William put Laddie down,
Safe and sound.
Kim William did scold
For being so aggressively bold—
He by her was told
He was a “baddie”
For attacking little Laddie.
Kim had had a bad scare
That wasn’t good for her heart,
But Laddie for his part
Seemed not to care—
He was none the worse for wear,
And he even there did stay
To eat more hay!
With Kim and her daughter,
William is, of course,
A very kind horse
Who mostly acts like he oughta—
He seems to take pride
In being a good ride
When young Adrianna’s astride
For lessons in the round pen.
He’s quite the show off then!
In closing I’d like to say
That to you, Kim, I my cap doff
With gratitude for all you also do
For horse rescue
In Equi-Army No Days Off!
May your wishes today
All come true!

I’m still trying to process the horrendous news from Newtown. I have a friend with a grandchild who lives in the area so my first thoughts were for them but thankfully all is well with them. Thoughts and prayers are with all who are suffering.
