Dear Max.I hear Wesley Ward is sending Finnegan over for the Coventry stakes at RA.He has a good record at Ascot.Ryan is in a good place at the moment.Maybe Gleneagles will run in the Derby, the Irish 2000 guineas for him next Saturday. We’ll see what they decide.Richard Hannon will be in competition with his brother-in-law next season.I’ve been reading AP’s autobiography and learned a lot more about him.He says he’s enjoying his breakfasts these days! There are already preparations for Her Majesty’s 90th birthday next year. There will be celebrations held during the Windsor horse show next may.Hugs Sheena.
Max
Is that the jockey Richard Hughes or the husband of one of his sisters? He’s got 4 sisters.
I wonder what Hootenanny is doing these days.
sheena.davies(wales)
Dear Tizgood. It’s a joy to watch Monty and Glesni this year. She was eating when I looked in about 7pm.Did you see the video of Monty bring in some bark for her to keep her beak in trim.I just hope we get some good weather for the llttle chicks when they arrive.I remember 2012 only too well.Would hate a repeat performance.Great day for Ryan and James Doyle went up to Doncaster after Newbury and got a winner there too.Love and hugs Sheena.
Tizgood
Dear Sheena,
I keep missing Monty bringing Glesni her meals, I think I did see
them bring in the bark. I thought it was for the nest. Thanks for enlightening
me. They brought in two pieces. Oh yes, 2012, their first year was such a
very rough year for them. I am so very glad they have had a quiet year so
far and good weather ( fingers crossed) and are really bonding.
So glad Ryan and James had a good day today.

Dear Max.Richard Hughes is married to Lizzie sister of Richard Hannon.Congratulations to AP winning in that dreadful weather!Your dreams of a triple crown winner live on again. It isn’t high on our agenda anymore.Hugs Sheena
Max
Glad that race is over. Terrible rain and very sloppy track. You never know what could happen to a horse in those conditions. AP did really well. On to NY.
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear Max:
So very true. Hope they’re all OK. Love and Hugs, JB
Max
Me too. My nerves were on edge from the time that the rain began. Kept thinking of Barbaro. Glad that the field was relatively small. Happy for the Zayats. Have liked them since Paynter.
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear Max:
Yes, I was really concerned too; especially for those horses that I felt were already tired, when I saw the terrible conditions.
On to Belmont. Love and Hugs, JB
Janie (in L.A.)
Yay American Pharoah!!!
Deb E.
Poor horses! It must have been like running in a hurricane in Baltimore! Congratulations to American Pharoah and his connections on winning such a muddy Preakness. Go back to your stall and get a nice bath AP and some carrots or apples or whatever you like because you DEFINITELY earned it. Of course, the Preakness record still stands after 42 years which makes me incredibly happy! ;-)
Max
It’s very likely that the record in the Belmont will stand too. That race by Big Red may be the best race ever won by a horse in our memory.
Marshall (NC Broad)
Amen, Max!
The most phenomenal race ever!
Hugs
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear Max:
Indeed! Love and Hugs, JB
Deb E.
Oh, yeah!
shirleeinindy
Right on Max.
We won’t see his like again. The stars aligned when he was born. So glad this Big Red came along in my lifetime.
Wasn’t too worried about AF. His race in the Arkansas Derby was on a very muddy track and he seemed to love it.
Big ears does it again. Zenny might want to look at him for a “boy toy” a little later on!
Tizgood
Like that Shirlee, Boytoy!!!
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear Shirlee:
Too funny. AP really does have “Zenny” ears and BB stuffs them with cotton too. Love and Hugs, JG
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear Z Fans:
Congrats to AP and BB. Wow; made it look easy. Hope Mr. Z gets some well needed R & R and hope they all come out of the race OK. Love and Hugs, JB
Marshall (NC Broad)
Dear Judy B.,
Yes, I hope everyone is okay, too. That was some race!
Congrats to AP, Mr. Zayat, Bob B., and VE! Dallas Stewart did well with Tale of Verve as did Devining Rod for the Jacksons. Sure hope Firing Line is okay, too. Thank goodness for Gary Stevens and his experience in reading horses.
Here we go to Belmont and here’s hoping (with fingers crossed)!
Hugs and Love
Tizgood
Dear Marshall,
I don’t think Firingline liked the slop,
some horses don’t. They slide around in it
and can’t get good footing or hold of the track and don’t like
that feeling. AP glides over the track so that does
not bother him.
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear Marshall:
Wow, sure was another impressive win by AP. Great efforts by Tale of Verve and Divining Rod too. Yes, Happy for Mr. & Mrs. Jackson as well. Hope all the horses came out of the race OK. Love and Hugs, JB
Ingrid Arnone
Dear Judy,
Yes, a great great race!
And my second pick was Tale of Verse!
Wow, wow, I think you right I am a good handicapper.
Hugs Ingrid.
Tizgood
Great pick Ingrid,
he liked the slop
Ingrid Arnone
I thank you all, you all rock!
I love youuuuuuu!
Ingrid.
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear Ingrid:
You are absolutely a terrific handicapper.
Nothing I like better than picking the right long shot, but Tale of Verve took very good handicapping skills to figure in the Exacta. He won his Maiden in April on the 6th try and jumped from that race right into the Preakness. He is a son of Tale of Ekati (Storm Cat) who earned over $1M in his career and Verve, his Dam, is a daughter of Unbridled; nice breeding. You’re something else to have picked him. Love and Hugs, JB
Marshall (NC Broad)
Dear Ingrid,
Yay! You really are an excellent handicapper! Congratulations on your second pick of Tale of Verve. Brilliant!
Hugs and Love
Ann NC
Way to go, Ingrid. Wow, Tale of Verve really made up some ground and in the slop! Wow, what a run by ToV. Incredible. Hope he is OK today, too.
Congrats.
shirleeinindy
Ingrid,
Great pick. Have to confess I didn’t even consider him!
Terry Crow
Ingrid–I do not know how you did it. That horse was one of the two I threw out.

This combination of trainer and owner should always be taken seriously. They got a 2nd with Golden Soul in the KD a few years ago.

Dear Judy.Dangerous conditions for the horses at Pimlico.I heard Firing Line slipped coming out of the stall.I hope all is well.It was lovely to see Monty incubating tonight while Glesni was having her supper.Goodnight God bless you LM PC HT Cap Hercules Frank and all the Sweeties.Love and hugs. Max
What has become of the two young ones from last year? Are they in Yorkshire with the Moose?
Tizgood
Dear Sheena,
Some horses don’t like the slop and just don’t get a good grip
on it and that was Firinglines problem. Shackelford was the same
way everytime he ran on a sloppy track he would throw in the towel.
It is not dangerous for them as when they slip they slow down and catch
their balance but they are not able to run well on it. Think of your horses running
on that heavy ground which is much worse than our slop. These are babies that
have never run in the rain. All of your horses train to run on the terrain before they race
on it. In the US we just send them out without any practice, which I am not sure is the best way.
Tizgood
Dear Sheena,
Look at the video of the 2005 Preakness that was dangerous;
Scruffy T came left into Afleet Alex and clipped heels; Afleet Alex went down
on both knees; jockey hung onto mane he came up and contunued on to
win the race. The race will go down in history. Afleet Alex then won the Belmont
by 7 lengths. That was the year Giacamo won the Ky Derby. What a horse. The jockey on Afleet Alex was new and ran his first Preakness and Belmont. The video
is very impressive.
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear Tizgood:
What a gutsy race horse Afleet Alex was. Love him. Love and Hugs, JB
Terry Crow
One of the most amazing races ever run in a triple crown event.
Tizgood
PS
Also Firingline is very fast out of the gate and did not realize
how slick it was with the rain.

When AP won the Rebel at Oaklawn….mud was 6 to 8 inches deep….when the rains came i knew he had it….Mr Z only other one to have experience with “slop”….
Tizgood
AP is the real deal he glides over the track no matter what the ground is like
he is really a super talent, I thought he might bounce because he had an A minus
game in the Derby, but he had an A plus game today. Now the question is can
he get a mile and a half !!!!
shirleeinindy
carol,
Thanks for the post. I goofed a few posts up and said AF won the Arkansas Derby in the mud. Red Faced!
carol in arkansas
Hi Shirley…..i did not see your posts….but i remembered the Rebel….AP looked almost knee deep in mud….with a bent half off flopping shoe…he just took it all in stride….in the Arkansas Derby….he just flew
Tizgood
Thanks Carol,
I did not realize that he is just a super talent
on any surface.
Love and Hugs

AP would be a nice outcross stallion for Queen Z! :)
Deb E.
They both like posing for their fans which I just saw AP do in a video on You Tube. Very handsome guy with beautiful big eyes!
Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
SO glad that all of the hoses survived the Preakness slop today (as far as we know, anyhow). Great win by AP! On to Belmont! I know nothing will ever equal Secretariat’s run, but that was before my time as far as racing is concerned so a win of any type would be a thrill for me.
Terry, do you get anything for 3 out of 4? Good pick with Diving Rod!
judy Berube from Rhode Island
Dear Sandy:
Rooting for AP. Love and Hugs, JB

Sandy-You get to tear up your ticket. I must admit there is no way I could have had Tale of Verve. He had only one win, that being a maiden contest.
Marshall (NC Broad)
Goodnight Zenny and sweet dreams to you — to your boys, also.
Hope you are having a lovely spring!

Congratulations to American Pharoah, Zayat Stable, Victor Espinoza and Bob Baffert on the winning ride at the Preakness. Would be awesome if American Pharoah won the Belmont Stakes on the 80th Anniversary of Omaha’s Triple Crown.
Sue Fredrick Happy as a lark
Sending congratulations to AP, the real deal, and the Zayats, and Bob Baffert. He sure floated over the mud. Now on to Belmont for a TC attempt.
Don’t know if anyone posted here but Old Friends was broken into and robbed this weekend, what a sad state of affairs when the charities get hit. I’m very proud of Lane’s End for stepping up and replacing their TV set in the office, let’s hope some of the other farms step up too.
Still no word on Mama Zenny, sure hope she’s got a bun in the oven and they are just waiting for confirmation before they get us all excited again.
So glad all the horses came through okay with no accidents yesterday, that is the best news.
Kisses to Zenny, CoZ, Zi, angel Princess and my Indy.
judy Berube from Rhode Island
Dear Sweet Sue:
Great win by AP and VE. Yes, most important no mishaps in those sloppy conditions.
I did post an article on the previous Blog page about the break-in at Old Friends; just unbelievable.
Did you read that your boy Indy’s son, Commissioner, won the Pimlico Special.
Maybe we’ll hear some good news from Z this week. Love and Hugs, JB

Morning peeks over the horizon with fresh breath and rosy cheeks. She sparkles with dew and turns the trees into halos of green that tint the air. Her eyes are blue and she turns them on earth with tender care. Her good humor reveals that it is the month of flowers-the planting month.
Speak to morning with gratitude. Though she comes daily, she stays only a few hours and then she changes clothes and moves across to the time of long shadows. Show reverence to the One who gave her to us, this time of day that gives us such vigor and such vision of how we can make the day!

Congratulations to American Pharoah and all his connections! We will be on needles and pins to see if this is the year we have another Triple Crown winner.

Gary Stevens said he weighed 120 before the race and 135 after with all the rain. Said he had already poured water out of both boots. Don’t think the horses minded the rain as much as the jockeys.
judy Berube from Rhode Island
Dear Shirlee:
There’s a photo of VE holding one of his boots upside down with rain water pouring out of it. It’s the third photo down on the page. Love and Hugs, JB

Judy,
Enjoyed the picture and the story in your post.
Think perhaps we should all brush up on our rain dances for the Belmont. I would really like to see another Triple Crown soon as I “ain’t” getting any younger.
The one who really worries me is Materiality. With his pedigree he should be able to run all day. And Todd P’s horses do seem to do well in the Belmont.
Max
Another NY based horse to be considered is Frosted.
judy Berube from Rhode Island
Dear Shirlee and Max:
Love Materiality (Afleet Alex) and Frosted (Tapit); both closers. Love their Dads too. Love and Hugs, JB
judy Berube from Rhode Island
PS: Will definitely be rooting for AP in his TC bid, but I would use Materiality and Frosted in Exotiocs, if I were placing bets, with AP up front. Love and Hugs, JB

Dear Sheena,
Good Sabbath. We certainly enjoyed a wonderful Preakness yesterday. I’m so thankful all the horses were okay running in such slop! Fingers crossed that we have a Triple Crown winner this year. Have a beautiful day . Love and hugs from me, kisses from Holly, Nikko and Sugar. Kathy XOXO

JudyB,
Saw AF’s ear plugs for the race on TV. They were fuzzy and brown. Guess they were custom made! Think he, like Zenny, just wears white cotton balls around the house, I mean the barn.
judy Berube from Rhode Island
Dear Shirlee:
Didn’t know AP had custom made ear plugs. Too cute. Love and Hugs, JB

Congrats to AP. What a race. Looked like he was in a lazy gallop at one point. Very impressive.

ps. I have a canine buddy now I named Tanner. He’s 9 or 10 yr. old (llahsa Apso) and needed a home. My “free” dog has been pretty expensive at the vet, but I think we’ve addressed everything now. He’s my, “go for a walk” stimulus and a nice companion.
