Dear Sheena,
Dante festival…doesn’t that sound nice?!! Good luck to Aidan’s horse. It makes me cringe to hear of the atrocities you mentioned. God rest those precious animals’ souls. I’m glad Skye is recovering. Looking forward to Hovis’ full update. Poor Loki, I hope he’s more comfortable now. We will probably get some rain in the next few days. That’s wonderful news! We need every drop! Loved the pic of Milo looking up to heaben. So sweet! Sorry for Judy over the needed repairs. The ospreys are such dutiful parents, it warms the heart. Have a wonderful day. Love and hugs from me, kisses from Holly, Nikko and Sugar. Kathy XOXO

Dear Sheena,
Thanks, it’s always good to know the whole story!

Forgot to mention Jelly Bean yesterday! Loved the article about Summer Squall. So touching. Watched Zenyatta’s Classic on TVG last night. I can’t even count the number of times I’ve seen that race. The thrill is always the same, Zenny flowing through that pack of colts and the ROAR when she came into the clear. Trevor Denmans call captured the perfection of that moment. I tend to get emotional and I’m not sorry about it. Has there been any news about Ziconic? Is he going to join his brother and John at Belmont?

About Mr Z’s trip in the Derby, he was not tired like the Zyat’s said, he had a

I’m just thinking about Pharoh’s tail being nibbled by Mr. Z when they were youngsters. I’m guessing AP learned to run so fast to save the rest of his butt!! I’m rooting for AP. (and a good safe trip for Mr. Z along with all entries)

Dear Tizgood:
Concerned for Mr. Z because he hasn’t had a rest in almost one year. Tough for any of them to come back in two weeks after racing in the Derby. Godspeed and safe and sound to all. Love and Hugs, JB

He might know his horses but he is definitely saddling a longshot this time. Mr. Z is more a candidate for last than first. If there is an upsetter, it appears to be Divining Rod.

That D Wayne always has to have a Preakness runner;
I like Divining Rod too, a nice new comer- would be a real nice
Win for the Jacksons and a talented colt

Dear Lin,
Forgot about that funny one, those foals!!!

I do think AP is the most talented in the field, but
In the one hole and having raced less than 4 weeks
Out before the derby plus racing luck one never know.
Love your comment about AP and Mr Z in the field.

OH NO!!!! Just got an email from JAG with the PReakness post positions—Pharoah got Number 1–and Dortmund Number 2. Eeeeeek!!! Maybe Bob can come up with a magic strategy to get them both in the clear—sure hope so!!!
Must give some belated Birthday wishes for Jerry Moss and our dear Sheena. Mr. Moss, you sure make 80 look great!!! Couldn’t believe it when I read how old you are now—the company you keep must be keeping you young!!! Thank you for ALL you do,keeping us all in the loop with your wonderful family!!!!
Sheena, I’m SO sorry I missed your day—Barnaby and Traveller and Boss Mare Sue join me in wishing you a great year to come. So love all of your posts and I always give Barnaby your messages–and tell him how lucky he is to have a friend all the way across the ocean in Wales!! I was so sorry to read of young Jimmy’s passing. The only saving grace is that it must have been instantaneous and that he didn’t suffer.
Spring is finally here in the Valley and the animals are loving it. Barnaby and Traveller are pretty much fully “shed out” and are looking shiny and fit. Last Saturday,Boss Mare Sue and I had a “group ” lesson with Trudy, one of the wonderful trainers at our barn. We were concentrating on cantering. We’re going to have another this Saturday, since it is only a few weeks until we move them up to East Fork for the summer. Wish could have seen them on Sunday morning. Guess the spring was really getting to them–( remember all the animals in the movie, Bambi< in the spring, when they were all "twitterpated"??)—that was our two on Sunday. They were just so full of themselves and, seemingly, just FULL of pure joy!! They ran around madly in the big outdoor arena–then Barnaby started bucking, which I've NEVER seen him do, then, he was tossing his head around, like a wild horse herding mares!! Then, he saw Boss mare Sue, coming from one of the barns and ran at top speed just to greet her at the gate–with Traveller galloping along behind!!! It was so beautiful–and sweet–to see them do that and it surely touched HER heart! They just looked so free and happy, you couldn't help but love it. Then, when I left the arena,to put the big mounting block into the round pen in which we were going to school them, he whinnyed for me,which he rarely does,as if to say "why did you leave me??? When I went back in the big arena,he kept coming up to me to hang out and be loved. He is SO affectionate and I surely do love it!! He seems to be such a happy horse, which is just what I want him to be!! He is getting a surprise when he arrives at East Fork. Some months ago, when he had a reading from our local horse psychic, he asked for a big RED ball to play with, after the ice and snow were gone so that he wouldn't fall. (he had heard Boss Mare Sue and I discussing the merits of Jolly Balls). I have ordered him the Giant Jolly Ball, which comes in red–and doesn't have a handle,so he can't pick it up and pester Traveller with it. It will be fun to see if he wants to play "soccer" with it. He loves to push things over, like jump standards and cones and such–so it should be fun for him to have something to push around the pasture,if he gets bored. will let you know how he likes it. He is very "mouthy" and loves to grab jacket zippers in his teeth and unzip them–and to play with the strings on sweatshirt hoods and such. He has noticed the new large ring I have, which my dear friend,Nicki, who passed away in November, and was recently given to me by her daughter. He keeps taking it in his lips and trying to take it off of my hand. He doesn't miss a thing!! Very observant boy!!
Zenny, hope you get the see the Preakness on TV–bet you'd love it!! If not,I'm sure someone will give you the details. Have a safe and happy night and a happy day running in your neadow tomorrow!! Love you always!!
Judy Berube From Rhode Island

Marshall (NC Broad)
Dear Friends,
I regret having to report that my Huey-dog has crossed the Rainbow Bridge. Tuesday morning I was going to take him to an oncologist to determine if he had lymphoma; however, around 5 AM, he went outside to relieve himself and could not make it back to the house — his back legs just gave out. I helped him get up and back inside. After a short while, I heard him drinking water. He settled down on his bed, but soon began to gag which led to throwing up. At 7 AM, I decided that an oncologist could not help him since his old joints were failing him so I cancelled the appointment. Huey gave me that look that says it all, and then I knew what must be done. I took him to our veterinarian for the last visit. He went very peacefully to the Rainbow Bridge where, I am sure, Reilly was waiting for him. Now they are together and are healthy again. I had known for some time that the day would come when he couldn’t walk. He was able to walk from the house to the car on his own with dignity. His eyes told me everything. It was time to say good-bye until we meet again. Huey, you are a good dog, and I will miss you very much. I am glad that you came my way. RIP sweet doggie
Thanks to all who have sent prayers and kind thoughts. You are the best.
Hugs and Love

May 14 Cherokee Devotional
Health fills the body and eager anticipation absorbs the person who sees the blue, blue sky and gives thanks. The sky is the flyway of the bird, whose freedom is to light and go at will, who swiftly builds a nest and lines it with soft down to cradle tiny eggs.
When evening shadows fall upon the earth and a lone jet cuts the puffy clouds with straight lines, it does not bother the birds. They chirp and murmur night sounds and settle down to sleep. Only the owl and the nightingale call in mysterious tones. And sometimes the mockingbird, having recorded too many songs, must relieve itself with a midnight melody.
We forget and think we are all there is.

Dear Kathy.Gosh,it’s so sad when we lose our furbabies isn’t it.I still treat myself to the monthly “Your cat” magazine and was reading about a 22yr old black cat called Sooty he was rescued as a kitten and is still pretty lively! It’s been very wet windy and cold here this morning, poor Glesni has got a soaking and so did I!It seems to have eased here now and is dry up in York for the racing.Hear it’s going to be “sloppy” on Saturday at Pimlico and BB is annoyed with the draw!!!Able Friend the world’s top rated miler is going to stay with Michael Bell in Newmarket maybe he’ll get to meet CC out training!Such a lovely post from Zoe she’s a real sweetheart!Poor Wimbley was remembering about his baff so I habbed a little sad for him!!A very thought provoking post from Mango.I often wonder where God is when sad things happen to good people.Poor Judy has had a difficult week.Skye is doing so well and should be home in a few days and the Catley Cross are holding an open day for Gizmo on July 26th.Hope some of Hovis’friends who live nearby can visit him.Hopefully Lara can attend too.Have a great day.Love and hugs to you,Kisses for Holly,Nikko and Sugar.SheenaXOXO
Kathy
Dear Sheena,
Losing a furbaby is just the worst. A 22 year old cat…amazing! That must be so tough for the ospreys out in the elements. Hope they all stay well. Enjoy the upcoming races. I hope all the horses at Pimlico stay safe. Yes, I heard BB was shaking his head after he heard AP’s post position. I hope Michael Bell gets to meet CC. I sure enjoyed the story on CC the other day. Thanks for posting that link! I enjoyed little Zoe’s post, too. Love that little dog! I guess you would have to bathe a rat quite often to keep him/her smelling clean. I wouldn’t think it would be their favorite thing! Haven’t visited Mango yet. I’m so sorry for Judy’s difficulties. Wonderful news about Skye! Open day for Gizmo sounds nice. Hopefully Hovis’ friends will come. Have a wonderful Friday Eve and take care. Love and hugs from me, kisses from Holly, Nikko and Sugar. Kathy XOXO

I just want to say how proud I am of all the brave first responders (fire fighters, police, EMTs, Red Cross, and hospital personnel) who went above and beyond the call of duty In Philadelphia Tuesday night during the Amtrak train tragedy. Many people were saved from the wreckage due to their heroic efforts. Pennsylvania is a commonwealth in mourning. Gov. Wolfe has ordered flags across the state to be flown at half staff to honor the now, sadly, 8 people who lost their lives and those victims who continue to be hospitalized for their injuries. During a time of so much turmoil for our nation, it’s nice to see a city come together for a common purpose and work together to help each other during an unexpected disaster.

Dear Marshall I feel your pain. The recent loss of our cats has left us all emotionally spent. Talked about whip use in the Derby on Dan Patrick Show this morning. Doug O’neill was giving Dan his expert opinion on use of the whip. 32 times APH was hit by VE. The vets didn’t find any bruises on him but what about his mind? DO said APH was losing focus because of the noise and he was just trying to make him keep his mind on racing. He suggested that social media was responsible for the unwarranted attention the use of the whip had engendered. Social media puts everything right there in front of us 24 hrs. a day. I overreacted to CC going to England. Can’t help it. Terrible post position draw for APH. He’s going to have to run really hard as soon as he breaks from the gate. Hope everybody, horses and riders, get home safely.
