Watched the movie about Mine That Bird (50 to 1). Very enjoyable. I think all of you would like it.
Learned a lot about MTB’s personality. Another escape artist; they had to make sure there was a spring latch on his stall door. Sweet boy. Love and Hugs, JB

Judy, So glad you saw 50-1. Of course we’re a bit partial to ‘Bird’ here in New Mexico. We went over to see him in Roswell (just under 2 hours drive from our home) a few years ago. He was so handsome and you are right – he could open the latches – let himself in/out of the stall. Dr. Blach opened a new horse vet clinic in Santa Fe this year, so I’m not sure if Bird stayed at the ranch in Roswell, or moved up there with him. Dr. Blach is such a kind, friendly man and was so hospitable. Since my Dad was from Louisiana, we especially think a lot of Calvin Borel also, but not just for that reason. Calvin is such a kind person and works so hard. His ride on Bird has to go down as one of most exciting of all time, I think. I hope everyone on Zenny’s site gets to see the movie. Thanks so much for posting about him. with love, Elizabeth

Dear Judy.A wonderful article by Steve Haskin.I remember our jockeys were “up in arms”about our new whip rules but it does work quite well here now. Many jockeys just think of the glory, the money and not the most important factor the horse’s welfare..Hugs Sheena.
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear Sheena:
Wish they would adopt a similar rule Stateside. Love and Hugs, JB
shirleeinindy
Do think that we cannot just lay the blame on the jockey for excess whipping. The trainer and the owner have to take some responsibility also. If a jockey were taken to task by the owner or trainer about whipping and not used anymore, that would make an impression on him/her. I am sure many jocks have been raked over the coals by owners/trainers for not whipping enough and losing a race.
Max
I have read that EP Taylor used to tell both his trainer and jockeys never under any circumstances to whip Northern Dancer. Taylor also ignored advice from Luro on gelding ND. If he disagreed with trainers on specific training methods, his opinion always prevailed. He was one of the most hands on owners ever as he made unannounced visits to the barns to see just what was happening with his horses, whose families and lives he knew in fine detail.
Ann NC
What a great man. He invented the toaster, too! Thank you.
Max
At one time he also owned the largest brewery company in the world. Had he known Zenyatta, he could have given her free stout. Northern Dancer’s distaff family was American. His grand sire was Native Dancer, the Gray Ghost. ND operated as a sire mostly out of Maryland, thanks to his owner’s friendship with the DuPonts. Secretariat’s last race was at Woodbine because Taylor was friends with Penny Chennery and had invested in shares of Big Red. He also hosted JFK and The Queen Mother at his various estates. The guy was larger than life, rather like his fiery little horse. And he did invent the two sided toaster. He had studied engineering at McGill before going first into business and later into breeding horses.
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear Max:
Good man. I think it’s been documented that some horses do not respond to being whipped and race much better without it. Love and Hugs, JB
TIZGOOD
Dear Shirlee,
You are so right. I remember the owner of Aclimation
Watched all of his videos when he started losing and noticed
That he quit running when he was whipped so the jockey was told no
Whip and that was that. Zither owners have stepped up to the plate as well
When they notice their horses do not like it or do not respond well to it.
And more owners need to do it. I think the vets are going to start looking
Very closely at all of Victor’s horses, he has been doing this for a very long
Time and gotten away with it for too long. I personally think he should be
Fined for the Derby whipping. No one looked at AP but he had to have had welts or skin
Breaks.
sheena.davies(wales)
Dear Terry. Thanks for your best wishes! There is great article about CC on http://www.wordsmithnews.com looking great rumour going around he will not run in the UK until July!!Hugs Sheena.
Max
The sun is shining on Chromie, a rare and wonderful thing in those parts. Even if he never takes a step on the track, he will have had a pretty nice vacation. Hope that he’s got some horsey pals over there for companionship. And access to his favorite food like those Mrs. P cookies.
TIZGOOD
I definately think he is going to run, it takes a long time to get balance galloping over those uneven courses. Newmarket is less undulating than Royal Ascot, he has
To be able to gallop full speed without hesitation over the uneven ground, when
It is time for Frankie to get on he will have reached that point and Frankie will there able to evaluate his readiness. It takes a very long time for a baby to go from a flat
Dirt course to a undulating uneven turf course, keep his balance at a full gallop, CC is a baby!!!
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear Sheena, Max and Z Fans:
Thanks Sheena for the update on CC. As Max said, even if he doesn’t race in the UK, he’ll will have quite a story to tell when he gets home. Love our Chromie.
Max, I read CC is being well supplied with his favorite snacks. Love and Hugs, JB
Ingrid Arnone
Dear Sheena,
Until July he is going to run?
No I do not think so….
Hugs Ingrid.
TIZGOOD
Dear Ingrid
Do you think that he is not going to run? it takes a very long time
To retrain a horse from running on a flat dirt course to running on an uneven
Turf course. Everything they hit an area that is uneven they have to rebalance
Themselves while they are running, when they are first learning they start
At a trot then a canter then a gallop. They have to learn to rebalance themselves
But first they will slow down to get the feel of the ground so they do not fall, once they get a feel of the ground they learn to balance themselves and can eventually go at a full gallop and balance as they go. It takes time to learn how to do this and must be done over and over and over again. He will race, they would not be putting Frankie Dettori on him if he were not going to.
Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
Thanks for the interesting article. You heard somewhere else that he might not run til July??
Max
He’s currently entered in the Prince of Wales Stakes at Ascot on June 17, 2015. It appears that he will race, but you never know until the day. Anything can happen. Same for all other horses.
TIZGOOD
He is entered in the Queen Anne, thank goodness !!!

Dear Sheena,
Read CC is going to run in the Queen Anne is that in July. So very
glad that decision was made. Know there are some young turf champipns
in that race but to meet Cirrus is just foolish, he is a machine, just so experienced.
CC would have no chance. The photo of CC cantering in the beautiful English
countryside at Newberry is absolutely gorgeous. He looks very good striding out
and to have Frankie gallop him overthe RA course is so perfect he will be able to
tell how he is doing. In the photo he looks like a good Euro horse. Rae has done
a wonderful job retraining him.
Love and hugs
TIZGOOD
Lovely article about Chrome, am sure he love the rolling hills of
The English country side, may not want to come back home. Such

Calling someone a coward can be risky business. A coward isn’t always a sneaky person; it may be someone who sees the end result of being foolish.
Circumstances today demand we be cowards to some degree. Why would we stick our heads in a noose when we know the outcome? Taking a chance may be a big thing to a fool-but why would anyone in their right mind insist on being a fool? Fools drink and drive, abuse children, and destroy lives and property because they can.
It is better to be called a coward than to be dead wrong-or dead.
If their minds are clean, and if they are obedient and promise to obey…they shall be welcome…

I don’t get on this blog often. I tend to look at Zi and Coz’s facebook pages for updates.
It has been so quiet; no information since Coz’s race. I went back on this blog to read postings. thought I’d add my 2cents late. I, too, worry about Coz’s behavior and the safety of his caretakers. I respected John Henry but I could not love him like I loved the kindness of Zenny or Secretariat. Sometimes it takes the right relationship for a horse to come around as did Seabiscuit or Northern Dancer. I wonder how Coz acts with Mrs. Moss. I remember seeing her wipe the new born Coz down with a cloth and hug him.
second, I watched videos of street cry; does anyone else see some resemblance to Coz? Some said Street Cry was a late bloomer and was somewhat difficult. I do believe it is too soon to judge Coz’s abilities in racing. He certainly has the physical stature; he has a top grade trainer; he did behave in the race and post parade. I did not like several hits by VE in race. The Mosses are great owners; Hope he continues to progress and everyone stays safe.
Finally, I have been watching for updates on Zi going to JS. I wonder if Coz is taking up a lot of his time and energy.
hope you all will not be too upset with my old news chatter.
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear lin:
I think your post is thoughtful and caring and it’s good to share your feelings and love for Z and her babies. I too see the resemblance in COZ to his Grand Sire, Street Cry. I think Z has the look of her Sire too.
Didn’t care for the whipping by VE at the end of Cozzie’s race either. I agree, too, that COZ is just beginning his racing career and he’s still learning and growing. He will focus his energy with JS’s help. Love and Hugs, JB

Good to hear from you. All good thoughts are welcomed here and it is such fun to talk together about Zenny, her boys and other horses with people who love them.

I think CoZ is going to be a late bloomer some horses take to 4 or 5. Street Cry actually
ran at 2 and was a very easy horse. CoZ is hot like Z only he is a boy so more so than her. Have you looked on the Darley America website all of Street Cry’ races are there
and a narrative of his personaliryby Jimmy Bell the president of Darley America he was a very nice horse. We all think of Zenyatta as such a wonderful horse to pet, but to ride and train she is hot.

Dear Kathy.Wonderful devotional. It’s cool and breezy here, only 2 and 1/2 weeks to go before the royal birth at the Dyfi.It was so sad to hear about Jimmy these birds face so much danger from the modern world and humans of course.Sad about the earthquake in Nepal again and tornadoes in your mid-west a young couple died protecting their baby in Nashville Arkansas.Lots of pets missing such a frightening world for them too! Mango’s mum and Nay got home she is very stressed about the trailer, was on the phone all day.should be careful of her BP!!Fubu put a lovely post up for mother’s day.Marty wished me a Happy Birffday!yay!Wimbley and Milo are in jail framed by Mr Fibbs!Miss Kitty’s mum worked a lot in the garden and got sunburnt gosh the other day they were freezing, she does have a pretty garden though!Boo Buddy and Blue looked so cute on sunday but Blue is like Dexter getting on the large side!!There was a horrific post on Hovis yesterday about an attack on a horse in Cumbria a mare called Skye suffice to say it involved internal injuries but she is getting better and hopefully will make a full recovery. There are evil folk out there!!Have a great Tuesday.love and hugs to you,Kisses for Holly,Nikko and Sugar.SheenaXOXO
Kathy
Dear Sheena,
Well, we have a lot less time to have to wait for this royal birth! Prayers for all animals, birds and humans who are suffering right now. I hope Mango’s moms take a deep breath and will de-stress about the trailer. Things can always be fixed or replaced…our health, not so much. I’ll look for Fubu’s post about Mother’s Day. It’s just so amazing that he’s still here. The ratties were funny. They didn’t realize the beads were for Marty. Not sure how the sender is going to get them to heaben! Cute comment about ice cream being heaben in a bowl. Sounds like the weather where Miss Kitty lives is about as changeable as we get in CA. You’re right, Blue is getting very big. But I think Dexter will get even bigger, still. I pray neither one ever gets mad at their pom siblings! Prayers that Skye will recover fully. There are many evil people out there. You have a good Tuesday, too. Love and hugs from me, kisses from Holly, Nikko and Sugar. Kathy XOXO

I can’t stand to see a horse whipped. I will never forget Calvin Borel flailing away at Rachel Alexandra in her last race. It made me ill. JS replace VE. Coz just needs a little more time and hitting him is just going to make him resentful and hate racing. His Mom loved to race. He will always be that little squealing baby that loved to run with his Mom.
Pinto Bean was black and white, Panther Bean is black and their mom was Beanie Baby. She was Siamese. She was dropped off at our front gate a long time ago. Ana sku’tee for the soul. May it be as beautiful as the season and as thrilling as the shimmering plums along the ridges that waft perfume and fluttering petals.
