Robin LOVES Zenyatta
Just got the Neil Latham photography book American Thoroughbred. I know we’ve read some of his copy, but you MUST READ THIS because it is so eloquent:
A phone call cut the California trip short and immediately put them on the road for Kentucky; they had been approved to photograph Zenyatta, winner of the 2009 Breeders’ Cup Classic and the 2010 American Horse of the Year. They drove for thirty-four hours straight, swapping driving and sleeping, and arrived at Lane’s End just four hours before the start of the scheduled session.
“By that time I had shot more than 6,000 images of the best Thoroughbreds in the country, yet she was the most glorious creature I had ever seen”, said Latham. “She was nearly posing…she seemed to know her best position. She loved to be photographed and looked right at the lens. She was so alluring. I was fully aware that what I had in front of me was an iconic animal – a horse with soul. I felt a tremendous amount of joy photographing her and didn’t want to stop.”
When Latham asked a handler to take a photo of him with Zenyatta at the end of the session, something quite unexpected and extraordinary happened. “She tucked her head under my arm and just stayed there. A Thoroughbred would never do this. Then she tilted her head and looked straight at me. It was like she was talking to me through her eyes. I knew she understood people and felt emotion, and it seemed like she was in touch with my inner thoughts and feelings. This was a revelation…she connected with me on a different level. And I felt something I had never felt before with a horse.”
At that moment, Latham knew that his journey had ended. He had captured the essence of the Thoroughbred.
“All of my photographs portrayed the power and dominance of the breed, but it wasn’t until Zenyatta that I was able to reveal the emotional, fragile side,” Latham said. “It was the missing piece. I felt the finality, and then a wave of sadness. I never wanted it to be over; it’s hard to stop an obsession. But it seemed like there was nothing else to say – it had all been said with Zenyatta.”

Dear Robin:
Thank you so much for sharing this with us here on the Blog. What an eloquent and beautiful description of Z and the raw feelings emanating from Mr. Latham when he fell under her spell. Just beautiful. What an absolutely extraordinary being she is. Love and Hugs, JB
Marshall (NC Broad)
Dear Robin,
Beautiful post! Thank you for sharing Mr. Latham’s description of his session with Zenyatta. Yes, she is so very special, and as Judy B. said, “. . . an extraordinary being . . .” indeed!
Congratulations on getting the American Thoroughbred book of photographs by Mr. Latham. How exciting!

This is what all of us, her fans have always known. She is special. She is one of a kind. It is the connection. She is the Queen. This is why we love her.

I could not resist. I ordered my book tonight. Christmas in July!!!

Ann and Mike always said Zenyatta is a gift from God. She is far more than a horse…she is a spiritual being who continues to touch the hearts and minds of ordinary people. Her connection with humans of all ages and sizes is a blessing from the hand from heaven who made her.
Those who see and touch her every day are blessed in the truest sense of the word.

AMEN! Oh, to be in her presence just once. It must be likened to heaven on earth. Thank you, Robin, for your post.

July 6 Cherokee Devotional
Look past anything that hides the limitless sky. Look past buildings and wires and clouds to where galaxies and planets and stars move and yet hug their places in the plan of things. Look long and hard at the second heaven and the third heaven. What do you see? Nothing? So it seems, but your spirit sees more than your eyes. The human spirit is not as limited as some would have you think. Look again, because there is nothing between you and eternity. “Eternal” simply means endless, infinite, lasting forever. We each stand in it at this moment. What do you want to see? Whatever it is, keep your view clear. Don’t run toward the darkness if you want to see the light. We too often crowd out our ability to see far and clear with anger and frustration. Free yourself to see what you want to see instead of fearing every view as an enemy.

Dear Kathy.Wonderful devotional.A big day for us in the UK with the Chicot inquiry into the Iraq war published. It just fell short of blaming Tony Blair but was far more trenchant than I had thought. There was absolutely no thought given to the aftermath of the war and we as a consequence still suffer today. We were sadly ill-equipped and soldiers died as a result.Iraqis are still dying. There were no WMD’s and that poor scientist David Kelly.who committed suicide,as a result of a grilling by MP’s in 2003 was proved to right. The war was an absolute disaster such a waste of lives. The families are considering what steps to take.
It’s a lovely day here and at Wimbledon Roger is fighting back in his match it looks hot there.Glesni left her nest for the first time since April and caught a fish. She prepares for her return to Africa. The hiraeth begins!Roger has just won the 3rd set!!!!Do you see Mr Fibbs lovely White house and a doughnut room so important when he becomes President. They eben got to bisit Canada and only need a few more bizness licenses. We had to laugh at Ken Clark’s off camera comments about his fellow tories yesterday! If we all knew what peeps thought of us behind our back we wouldn’t get out of bed in the morning!First time for me to see Boo losing some friends about 30,000 but of course she doesn’t post so often now since the baby arrived. He still hs plenty of friends though!Hope you have a great day.Love and hugs to you,Kisses for Angel Holly,Nikko and Sugar.SheenaXOXO.Wales are playing Portugal tonight in the Euros Pob lwc Bechgyn!

Dear Sheena,
Always so sad when there are disastrous consequences in times of war and senseless loss of precious lives. Enjoy Wimbledon! Good luck, Roger! Glad to hear Glesni ventured forth. Good for her, catching a fish! Mr. Fibbs did a great job on that White House! We all learned that frosting makes a good glue! I hope the ratties are fluent in French. They’ll need it in Quebec! That’s true that we would be turtling all the time if we knew what people really think of us! lol That’s astonishing that Boo lost some friends. It goes to show that you have to keep showing up in order for people to stay interested! Good luck tonight, Wales! Have a lovely day. Love and hugs from me, kisses from Angel Holly, Nikko and Sugar. Kathy XOXO

Thank you to Team Z for offering us the coolness of a summer sale as the days really start to heat up and all I want to do is stay inside in the air conditioning! Having such good deals on line helps to make the time pass a little faster until it cools off enough to do a few outside chores. Thanks!!

July 7 Cherokee Devotional
We are often like children racing down a hill. The effortless speed puts us in danger of falling on our faces or running into a tree. Shifting down and slowing down take time, often longer than we think, and most of the time we need them sooner than we realize. What could be better in the summertime than having hours and hours in which to hear the songs of the cardinal and the meadowlark, to feel the sun warm and the breezes cool, to idle our engines by the humming of the honeybees in the locust blooms, and not have to think that in a few minutes this will end and then we’ll be back to the old routine? We need time apart to renew, revive, and refuel. We need time to just sit and think. We need personal time to read and to rest our minds and bodies from the hectic and the hurried.
Continue unto us this goodness.

Dear Kathy.Great devotional.Damp in Wales today but lovely at Wimbedon.Such a fantastic day of tennis yesterday with two enthralling 5 setters. My poor nerves were shattered!Serena blew Elena off court earlier but Venus and Kerber are finding it hard to get into a rhythm.I can never understand why the Ladies get the same prize money. They should play 5 sets too!We should know soon who will be the 2 contenders to be our next Prime Minister.Blair put in an Oscar winning performance yesterday.I saw that Bush was celebrating his 70th birthday. The robot army are coming according to the ratties I have yet to see them! What a beautiful goodnight video from Zoe.
The July meeting is on today and a statue of Charles II has been unveiled 350 years of racing at Newmarket.I heard someone is stalking the new announcer at Santa Anita since Trevor Denman left.My God they should have our commentators.Seems he is obsessed with Denman.Mango is off to CA for the Hero dog awards!Remembering the mighty Ruffian today on our racing FB’s such a tragedy.Great video of Glesni,Ceri and Teg.The Grey Gatsby next in the Princess of Wales.Sad our boys lost last night but we are still very proud of them.Hope you have a great day.Love and hugs to you,Kisses for Angel Holly, Nikko and Sugar.SheenaXOXO

Remembering all the victims and those who suffered life changing injuries on this day 7/7 in 2005.RIP the innocents.Sheena
Kathy
Dear Sheena,
Too bad it’s raining there, but they lucked out at Wimbledon. Glad you get to enjoy all the tennis. Keep us posted on all the PM contender news. I had missed that it was Bush’s birthday. Hope it was a happy one. Our politics are so crazy now. Never thought I would see the likes. We’ll have to stay tuned for the robot army. I thoroughly enjoyed Zoe’s video. She is a doll. 350 years of racing. That’s amazing!!! Hadn’t heard the new SA announcer is being stalked. See, that is why it’s good to be anonymous! I hope Mango has a good time in Hollywood. Oh, Ruffian…that was absolutely devastating. May she rest in peace. I’ll check out the video of the ospreys. Keep us posted on the Grey Gatsby. Yes, very sad your boys lost, but you have every right to be so proud of them. Happy Friday Eve! Love and hugs from me, kisses from Angel Holly, Nikko and Sugar. Kathy XOXO
