Oxbow doing better but still doubtful for Travers
BY Jerry Bossert NY Daily News August 4, 2013 11:43 AM
Preakness winner Oxbow continues to improve but is still doubtful to make the Aug. 24 Travers Stakes according to trainer D. Wayne Lukas.
“Coming nicely,” Lukas said outside his barn Sunday barn. “I don’t know if I’d push the envelope. It would depend on the next 10 days. He’d need a work. I’d have to work him and be satisfied with that. Maybe two. I’m not pushing to do that.”
After finishing fourth in the Haskell, Oxbow was walked off the track at Monmouth Park and was X-rayed which came back clean but an ultrasound found some inflammation on the inside medial suspensory on his right front ankle.

Don’t know if you all have found it yet, but Curlin has a facebook page. They posted a photo of him as a foal (now don’t get mad) but he and Little Red look a lot alike. Chestnuts with a muscular builds and fuzzy tails.

shirleeinindy
Thank you for the site to see Taco. He looks more like Rachel that he does Curlin. In fact, Little Red in color and build looks more like Curlin. Wonder if Curlin and Tapit of Zenny have some close relatives.
I think Stonestreet is hesitant to post photos of either of Rachel’s foals since they got so many really nasty comments about Taco when the put up his pics. Sort of like some said about Coz. You would have thought both were the most malformed horses anyone ever saw.
Janet Newman
I choose to remember it is the heart of a champion, not the look of a champion.
There have been some with the perfect confirmation, but never performed to their expectations.
John Henry was turned back at the knees I believe and look what he accomplished.
Bayakoa had a parrot mouth, not attractive I guess to a lot, but Ron McAnally saw beyond that and what a champion she was.
I guess my point is the wrapper can always look beautiful, but it can hide a gag gift inside.
I look at all and love them all.
Coz and Jess’s Dream look just perfect to me and their Mama’s think so too.

The rain and bad light saved England in the Ashes today Australia’s 2nd innings wasn’t half so good it may end in a draw that would mean England would retain the Ashes. Oh no! Probably one of THE biggest pains in the world as we know it. The thought of what would be involved in changing email addresses will probably keep me with my current ISP for the duration. Hope this works out soon. We were of the same mind about the cappin’ contest – who knew a young upstart would pull off such a win? Can you get on the website to bet even without your email?

Watching the Clement Hirsch I couldn’t help but compare the current runners to the magnificent Zenyatta. I can’t think of any filly or mare that compares to her physical perfection. She looked exactly like a champion should look, male or female, so I guess it isn’t fair to compare. I miss seeing her race. But, I am happy she is safely retired and enjoying her new role. She’s a champion mom, too.

We had a subject thread going on the other blog page about TV and movie horses. My trouble set in before I had a chance to reply. On the Cisco Kid, Poncho’s horse was named Loco. Annie Oakley’s horse was named Target. And, not only was Fury a most beloved TV horse, he also appeared as Black Beauty in the 1946 film and in Giant with Elizabeth Taylor. Thanks for the trip down memory lane. For the most part, it is a pleasant highway to travel.
