SARBONNE ALERT UPDATE
Dear Z-sters,
You will recall Zenyatta’s workmate SARBONNE, affectionately known as Bon Bon, who loyally helped her to fulfill her extraordinary potential and become the champion and ruling Queen she was meant to be. Well, as Ann Maree mentioned above, SARBONNE is now also retiring from racing and looking forward to a new home. His devoted guardian angel, Ashton, daughter of our beloved Kari, has stepped up to purchase Sarbonne and get him to a place where he can “just be a horse,” as John Shirreffs said of Zenyatta’s retirement. Sarbonne will be going to the Tierra Madre Horse Sanctuary in Arizona run by equine advocate Jim Gath. Ann Maree and I will be making a donation to help with Bon Bon’s purchase and transport as a thank you to Sarbonne for his service to Zenyatta and as a tribute to our dear departed Kari, who held Sarbonne close in her heart. I hope you will join us in this. The purchase price is $1500 and transport from Emerald Downs in Washington State may be as much as $1000 or possibly more. Any amount you can contribute will be a big help to Ashton and most gratefully received. Our Dumpling on the spot Sharon Peck has graciously agreed to Ashton’s request that she act as treasurer for Sarbonne’s retirement fund, so if you would be so kind, please send your donation as a check made out to Sharon Peck and addressed to Sharon Peck, P.O. Box 16213, Seattle, WA 98116. The sale is to be completed within a week, so please mail your donation as soon as possible. On behalf of Sarbonne and Ashton Bussell, Ann Maree and I thank you all for helping to give Bon Bon a secure future. Yours in Dumplinghood, Trina Nagele

Dear Z-sters, I’ve received an e-mail message from Sally B that she would like me to share with you all, so here you go.
From SallyB:
“It seems that my email is working but I cannot post or reply on Zenyatta’s blog. It stands still. It will probably take me a bit of time to find someone to take care of my problems. I was able to read some posts, although it moves so slowly.
Would you post on my behalf, telling all, it is true I have been very busy, but when I have gotten on the blog I cannot respond to anyone.
I cannot wish Zenyatta sweet dreams and kisses on her soft nose either!!
I read Kathy R’s question regarding Sir and I thank her for thinking of him. He is still with us and I like that, and the committee has decided that as long as he is with us, we will do whatever he may need. His second chiropractic appointment is this Fri, Aug 2, and I will want to be there like I was the first time. Liz and I kept him calm the last time, so I will want to help out again. I have come to love this horse and he is so sweet with me.
Could you just relay these things for me?
I want all the Zsters to know that I really care what happens to all and to our Thoroughbreds on Zenyatta’s blog.”
To Sally: I’m glad to post this for you, and I hope your computer problems will soon be resolved. Bless you for being there for Sir.—Love in Dumplinghood, Trina

Judy Berube,
I am praying for your Lola Mae to skate thru this dental. Us mothers always have a rough time when our kids go thru medical procedures……we are natural born worriers. I always took along a blanket or toy from home so they could have that “homey” smell when they were coming out of the anesthetic. Keep us posted on her condition. love and hugs
Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
Judy – Thinking of you and Lola Mae. It’s always scary when they have to undergo these procedures. Please let us know when she’s home safe and sound. Sue’s comment about taking a blanket or a toy from home made me smile. I remember taking my first kitty to be spayed, and there was an old nightgown in the bottom of her carrier. When they pulled her out, some claws on one of her paws were caught in the nightgown so it came out too. Everybody laughed :-(

Dear Z Family:
Thank you all for your kindness and concern for my little Lola Mae. Just brought her home from the vet and she cried all the way home. This is something she never does, so I think she was very upset with me.
She is fine right now and in my arms as I type. She did very well, but she had to have eleven teeth extracted; poor baby. I was given two meds to administer to her. One is an antibiotic twice daily and the other is for pain, also twice daily.
Thanks again for your prayers and caring. Love and Hugs, JB and LM

Oh poor baby. Glad to know she is back w/ you, JB.

Hi everyone- I wanted to share my incredible weekend at Del Mar. Of course, I had to see my boy Paynter run Saturday, and Goldencents on Sunday, so it was very eventful, to say the least. As I was driving down in the worst traffic I have ever seen, I got a message from Ahmed Zayat. It said “We are in Suite I. You are part of Zayat team” Okay, so not being super familiar with DMR, I wrote back. “ok, but remember, I’m blonde…where’s Suite I?” He wrote back “LOL, the Turf Club, text when you get here” Needless to say, I was INCREDIBLY nervous. I’ve met all of them previously, except for Ashley, the oldest of the Zayat kids, but I never expected this. So, when I got there, I sent a message and pretty soon Ashley and Justin came down. We went and met up with Marcy & Rick Leonard of Daily Racing Funnies because the Zayat’s had purchased all of their Paynter products and were giving it to TVG to have them give them out to the fans. Justin and Ashley then invited RIck and Marcy to come into the paddock with us before Paynter’s race. They were thrilled. So, we go up to the Turf Club and we have a suite with monitors and betting machines and a patio and our own wait staff…. yeah private wait staff. I greeted Ahmed and Joann, told them I felt way out of my element and they were as gracious as ever. I met their friends and had fun listening to the people discussing the business side of racing. At one point, Ahmed was giving good sound financial advice to one of the sons of their friends and then Joann said “Ask him if he follows that advice” Everyone started laughing when he admitted that he didn’t. As Paynter’s race got closer both Ahmed and I got quieter. They were concerned about the Polytrack- apparently it looks like dryer lint, but heavier, has an abrasive side to it and is also very dusty. Not very many people like it, and many horses don’t… think Zenyatta. We all knew that Batti Man was going to try to run to the front and Paynter is a front runner. While we were up in the suite, Justin told his dad about Marcy & Rick and I said that I was friends with them as well as some other friends, Jane & James, Lisa & Stephanie who were downstairs. At that point, Ahmed said “text your friends and tell them to come into the paddock with us!” So I did and they were pretty excited too. It was fun with the Zayats, they are a fun family! Obviously, the race didn’t go as we wanted it to, but oh my, Paynter never gave up, he just ran out of gas. What was really neat is after the race, Ahmed said he was very disappointed, not for himself, but for Paynter’s fans. He felt Paynter ran too well to have lost, but that’s racing. Then he asked each of his four children what they thought of the race. He listened to each of them. Then, he asked ME!!! I told him that I wished Rafael had tucked Paynter in behind Batti Man into the clubhouse turn, then allowed Paynter to take the lead in the backstretch, to save some ground. Apparently, Trakus did an analysis of the race and determined Paynter ran 27 feet more than Kettle Corn and that 27 feet translated into 3.5 lengths. Paynter lost by 1/2 a length. When they went back to visit him after the race he was still on the muscle and bitey, but I went back Sunday night before driving home and got lots of love from Paynter. Anyway, it was amazing being the guest of the Zayats. I couldn’t believe that they invited me not only to be their guest, but asked me what I thought. Really incredibly nice people and GREAT for racing!

casey-Thanks so much for relating your experiences. Every racing fan should spend a day like that, but few do. You accurately described Del Mar’s racing surface. To me, it is the quirkiest of tracks and the ultimate horse for course venue. The surface looks like it is literally covered with soap chips. The only question I would have is whether Mr. Zayat is planning to run Paynter in the Breeders Cup. That would be the ultimate s.tory line
casey
If Paynter continues to do well, they would like to run him in the BC. It’s his home track and he loves SA. Paynter ran a great race, he just got beat. I didn’t realize it at the time, but in only his SECOND race back, he was carrying TOP weight, even more than Kettle Corn, who is also a 6 year old. Seemed a little odd that they would assess him so much weight
Terry Crow
I agree. Didn’t really think he would run such a good race. If he were to run in the Breeders Cup it would be the story of the decade.

Sarbonne:
Dearest Trina and Ann Maree,
I realize you are trying to help, but neither one of you ask me if it was okay to speak “on my behalf” or use my full name on public sites. The reason it was even necessary to have Sharon being burdened as acting treasurer is my family has been stalked by a very unstable man for years, for reasons I won’t go into. Please I humbly beg of everyone please don’t ever do so again. Anyone who cares, knows the names Kari B. and Ashton. I know you were just trying to give credit and honor, but I’ve been begging it never happen again, and for you to please understand.
Also, your facts above are not accurate.
As of early yesterday Sarbonne was officially purchased by an amazing angel who, like me, wishes to keep a very low profile and her name off public sites. She did so for Sarbonne and to ensure I had a voice in this (where he goes) and could honor my deathbed promise with my mother. My mother was adamant he not be “rehomed” and Jim was on her list. So I committed to Jim and Jim committed to Sarbonne. I know some of you are not thrilled with the choice, but to come here and speak for me without asking,…….hurts me deeply.
So please allow me, acting for the person who purchased him, and the very wonderful Saint, Sharon Peck to handle it from here.
I am the only one who knows the facts as I’m acting for his new owner and with Sharon. Your hearts are in the right place ,but you are creating confusion by not checking with me about the facts.
Please for updates and info on Sarbonne the facts will be posted to his page until he is safely delivered to Jim. It is the quickest way for me to inform all at one time as you can view a public page without a FB account.
I greatly appreciate all donations to help with his transport. But he has already been purchased.
To the people whose feathers are ruffled about having your name left out after your generous time spent helping me and your donations, my sincere apology.
Trina Nagele in So Cal
So sorry, Ashton. I had no idea you didn’t want your name to appear publically, especially since you have it in full on your fb page. If you had given me a little heads up in advance, I certainly would have respected your wishes.
Ashton
It’s okay Trina…,just wish you had thought to ask me.
Yes, I have a personal FB page, but only those that are my friends can see it… I’ve never used my full name here..This is a public page that anyone can see. Until you and Ann Maree announced it to planet earth, only a very select few knew I was the “voice of Sarbonne.” She herself just learned a week or so ago. The point is I feel I should be the one to decide where and when my name appears anywhere. It is truly a matter of life and death. I can speak for myself..
I know you have a heart of gold and it just didn’t occur to you. I so never wanted to hurt your feelings, that until now, I’ve never uttered a word about you giving what was my (not dad’s) address out on this very public site after she passed. I knew you did so only wanting to comfort me and my family with cards, but it did cause us to have to move. Please forgive me, but it must not happen again. I never wanted or needed any credit.
Knowing Sarbonne would have a wonderful life, and I kept my promise is more than enough to me.
Trina Nagele in So Cal
Again, so sorry, Ashton, I had absolutely no idea.
Ashton
If you would like to be a part of Sarbonne’s future you are welcome to make donations to Sharon Peck P.O. Box 16213, Seattle, WA 98116. She was more than gracious in allowing us to post her name on this his very public page, after I ask her to, without stating why so I could keep my name off public sites. She is a true Saint, along with his very generous, secret angel who paid his full $1,500 sales price, I continue to be humbled by what she did, and by what all of you have been so willing to do to help Sarbonne have a wonderful future.
All donations will go towards Sarbonne’s transport cost. I can’t thank all of you enough, I’m more grateful than words can say.
