Sheena. Would liked to see Frankel and Bullet Train together in their stalls. I think that BT has gone to Australia to meet some lovely Sheilas. No doubt he’ll introduce himself as Bruce Train. Saw that comment about the King George by Mad Bruce. Have sent your post out to the translators. That’s beyond me. Neigh!

Dear Max,
I think Little Mike has a really good chance to win the Million, but did you read that article in Blood Horse today. Sounds like his owner wants to challenge Wise Dan. I sure didn’t like some of the things he said in that article. I just stopped reading it. I was getting irritated with him. Listen I’m sorrry but don’t mess with our Dan.
Pati-Caz Girl
It sounds like he is very confident in his horse and his abilities but he doesn’t have very much class to go with the confidence. At least the Wise Dan team are cordial.
Peggy (N) South Georgia
Dear Pati, Agree so much.
Janet Newman
I like the horse, not so sure about the owner.
Yes, support your horse and be the biggest fan, but do it with class.
Peggy (N) South Georgia
Dear Janet, Well said.
And, he said he was “Tired of hearing about Wise Dan” I thought oh no he didn’t say that. He’s ticked me off now.
Ann NC
HAhaha! I luv ya, Peggy!!!
Terry Crow
Peggy-If he has ticked you off. his horse has no chance in the Million. Little Mike has run exactly one race in his life that would indicate that he has any chance against Wise Dan head to head and that was the Breeders Cup last year. I don’t like him in the million and certainly would not back him against Wise Dan. That having been said, you never know in a match race.
Peggy (N) South Georgia
Dear Ann,
I just don’t know about some of these owners………………………………….
judy berube from Rhode Island
Dear Janet:
You are spot on. Love and Hugs, JB
Max
Peggy . Yes, I saw that and was disappointed. It might be very bad luck before Little Mike has even won the Million. Still hoping for Mike in that race. I’m not a fan of match races however, too much unnecessary pressure on the horses. We can count on Morton Fink to do only what is good for Dan. He’s allergic to horses but I see that he went anyway to visit Wise Dan in his stall the day after the Fourstardave. Good guy like the Dans themselves.
Peggy (N) South Georgia
Dear Max
Yes, I agree with you. I don’t like Match races either, and I do think Morton Fink will do what’s best for Dan. You know Dan’s just so great its just hard to see anyone posting any negative comments about him.
I still hope Little Mike wins today. He can’t help what his owner says.
Peggy (N) South Georgia
Dear Judy & Shirlee, Great Saturday racing coming up. I know what you all mean about Uncle Johnny. I like him a lot but have to pull against him this weekend.

So glad to see they have decided to put Oxbow up for the rest of the year. He had a pretty grueling 3 year old year and hopefully will be back next year. It does seem that the trend is becoming to race these guys at 4 and even 5. Too many retired as 3 year olds and turned out to not be what they thought as studs.
Max
Shirlee. The latest on this is that Lukas now says that Ox will have his ankle evaluated in about a month to see if he can race again this year. Reports of his departure according to Lukas are therefore premature. Oxbow has raced 13 times since age 2. He may just need a vacation aside from his ankle issue. This is a horse who lays it on the line each time that he races. He’s a tough little guy. Calumet will do what is best for him.
judy berube from Rhode Island
Dear Shirlee, Max and Z Fans:
Think Oxbow deserves a rest. He ran in all three TC races and gave his all every time; that’s a test for a three year old. And as Max said, he has raced 13 times since he was two. Hope he gets to rest for a while. Love and Hugs, JB

Sheena. Very happy to hear about a win for a Big D. He has sired some very good turf horses, but that comes naturally. His own dad is Roberto.
Glad to hear news of Noble Mission. You might remember that he trained with Thomas Chippendale. He and TC were the ones whom Henry Cecil called babies, one being just a bigger baby than the other.
Wish that I were there for that gray race. It’s like a cavalcade of Tastys.

Hi all Zsters; I am attempting to catch up on postings and found Hovis!! Thank you Max; it made my Sat. morning. He is so so funny!
Tomorrow I will be walking with a few other volunteers from our horse sanctuary in the Allenton parade. One volunteer has a mini and a friend with a mini that will walk just ahead of us. Nice attention getters! We have a Cedar Valley Horse Sanctuary banner which we will be displaying. This is part of our advertising of our big upcoming Animal Awareness Day in Sept. We will be handing out info postcards and of course candy!
Our annual Animal Awareness Day is the sanctuary’s biggest fund raiser so we are spreading the word.

Disappointing news on the Hovis front! Aunt T has decided she doesn’t want to share him anymore (and here we just heard yesterday what a great time they had had). Don’t know if Hovis has been told yet – imagine how crushed he will be to learn he’s been dumped! What exactly is a “bridgejumper”?
Terry Crow
carol-A bridgejumper is someone who bets very large amount on a horse to show, usually an odd-on favorite who figures to win easily. It is done for the express purpose of collecting 5 cents on the dollar and is considered by the people who make this wager to be easy money. You have to win 19 bets out of 20 to just break even. People have turned to this because interest on a savings account is so low.
judy berube from Rhode Island
Dear Z Fans:
Wonderful Champion Princess of Sylmar wins the Alabama in fine fashion. Fiftyshadesofhay and JV finished second; Carnival Court 3rd. My long shot, Galloping Giraffe ran 4th. Love and Hugs, JB

I love his name too. In looking at the past performances, I noticed he always comes from behind (like a Queen we love), so I took a chance. As TC GP says, even when you know, you never know. Love and Hugs, JB
shirleeinindy
Judy, It is so much fun to find a horse like this and follow them. The track is way ahead of me in money but not in fun. As I have said before, I heart bet, not head bet.

Dear Shirlee:
I love picking long shots. It’s risky, but fun. Hugs, JB

A contest such as this is usually held for the triple crown races. In this case, being selected to participate in the contest was basically the same as winning since the selection was rather obvious.

Peggy,
Thanks so much! Unfortunately it only amounted to $29.00, which brings my total to $52.00. Thought I could help out more, but, oh well it’s a win.
And I noted Princess S, Fiftyshades, and Carnival Court 1st, 2nd,and 3rd all have my Indy’s blood. Princess looks a lot like your Orfevre doesn’t she? hugs
Peggy (N) South Georgia
Dear Sue,
She does look so much like Orfevre. Probably partly why I like her so.
Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
I was celebrating too, Sue, until I realized that the exacta was paying LESS than some of the single horse bets. Here I thought I was being soooo brave – HA!!!
Marty R / Colorado
@ Cappers, my tale of woe is pretty long, but will try to keep it short. We had a serious electricity problem yesterday. Our electricity was only at half strength. The utility co. could only do a temporary fix and it will be permanently fixed in about three weeks. To make the temporary fix, they had to turn off all the electricity for a few minutes, but it was enough time to take out the computer. I am totally ignorant about bringing it back so had to wait or my neighbor. That was late this afternoon. Bottom line, I did not get to place my bet for this week and honestly, it was going to be for Carnival Court to show.
Sue Fredrick Happy as a lark
Sandy, I know that doesn’t seem quite right because we were right twice and a single bet only has to be right once. Oh well. If I read the team standings correctly it looks like Zentastic is in first place……am I correct?? Whoopie.
Marty R, that is terrible about your electricity, how can they expect you to wait 3 weeks for full power? You should get a reduced electric rate for the inconvenience. Hope you can get back to betting for the Travers. hugs
Terry Crow
Marty-That is too bad, but I have a feeling you will rebound this week. Saw some races from Arapahoe Park on TVG on Sunday.

I read of Oxbow resting for the balance of the year I believe. In one respect I thought oh know, he will miss the breeders cup, but then I too thought of how he has raced, putting in so much effort!! Carla Gaines is a very good and ethical trainer who got caught up in an unusual situation. Her vet told her one thing, the state says another. Taking into consideration that we are talking about California here and the political hacks which work for it, I have nothing but sympathy for Ms. Gaines.

Happy birthday to Eveline Kjelstrup! Eveline, I hope you have some winners today.
Dear Z-sters, here’s Eveline’s poem from two years ago. Note: “Eveline” is a Dutch name pronounced in four syllables: the first part sounds like “Ava,” and the second part rhymes with “Catalina.”
To Eveline Kjelstrup
August 17, 2011
Our dearest Eveline
Has exceled in many an arena.
A woman who loves to ride,
And a trainer to her core,
Because of her talents, she’s now able
To work in a stable
Of forty horses or more
In Maryland’s green countryside.
In her husband Ivin, whom she loved so much,
She found her life’s sweetest syrup—
Both he and she had come from Europe,
He hailed from Norway, and she was Dutch.
’Twas a most benevolent Fate,
They’d confess,
That led them each to find their soul mate
In the distant reaches of the U.S.
Heaven knows
When one to the other first came near,
You could almost hear
How their two hearts did thump!
’Twas their mutual work in the world of the horse
That brought them together, of course.
Both first rode horses that loved to jump:
Eveline soared high in shows
Where she put horses through their paces,
Ivin’s mounts were in steeplechase races.
One day,
She heard him say,
“My dear Eveline,
Will you marry me?
If you’ll be my wife,
I’ll love you for all my life.”
Eveline quickly agreed
Him to wed,
And united in bliss they their lives led.
Eventually as onward time sped,
They switched from their jumping steeds
To horses that raced on the flat
’Round a track.
And quite aside from all that,
Eveline applied her skills with her cat,
So soon Tiger
Was a certified therapy pet
From whom hospice seniors much comfort could get.
And Sparky, her rescue dog,
Certified therapist too,
Visited hospitalized children
So they wouldn’t feel blue.
To Eveline,
I reckon,
Competition in the dog world arena
Also did beckon,
For Sparky and she
Did enter the ring
To compete in obedience
And in exuberant freestyle
To boot.
And watching all the while
From the stands,
There would be
Her Ivin, who on her would smile
And for her would root,
For she made his heart sing
And life in her presence
Felt ever so grand.
They did everything
Together,
Linked with bonds of love
That nothing could sever.
But that which heaven above
Does give, it sadly can take.
Eveline has lost Ivin, her forever soul mate.
Thus this birthday is muted with sorrows–
It’s the first since Ivin’s passing.
But Eveline knows love is everlasting,
And we pray
This thought with her will stay
And give her inner strength
For life’s tomorrows.
In celebration of you and your love,
Dear Eveline, we say,
“May you have a blessed birthday!”
