Miracles of Life (Barbie) news:
Just heard an interview with Skysportsradio’s Sean Cosgrove and Daniel Clarken, the trainer. He said Barbie has put on some weight, is “bigger in the shoulder and the bum” but doesn’t think she’s grown in height. He’s warned Lauren that she will need to start eating lettuce to keep her weight under control. The decision on just where to race will depend on “what she shows us”, but he has some good options coming up.
Asked about other good horses in the stable, he mentioned Psychic Mick. The horse was named when the owner, who had asked Daniel to help him select a horse at the sales, had a dream the night before, including the hip number. Another one of those great stores in racing.
Just heard an interview with Daniel

I am considering buying a GoPro camera. It’s like what Mike had on his helmet when he worked Zenyatta for the 60 minutes piece. That way, I can share my lessons and riding experiences with everyone! They are a bit expensive, so I’ll have to do that next year after saving up some money. I really hope I can get one soon.

Hello my Zster friends! I have been able to read some of your posts and it has been great. Terry, I am so glad you share your sense of humor!!ha ha
I am recovering from an unusual week other than the grandkids over the weekend which I told you was to happen. I survived!!! yeah!! Prior to that, on Monday I got a 3 inch thorn from a tree branch I was cutting thrusted in my lower arm. I swear it hit into my bone. It was a puncture and I worried about infection. All good. Thurs. came out from the grocery store to find my car completely dead. I popped the hood and saw this green growth, built almost like a bee hive, all over my battery terminal. The cable looked like it had been eaten as it was not connected any longer. I know this is not horse related but open your hood once in a while to check and remove any build up. Needless to say, I walked to the closest auto repair only a block away and told them of my demise because my husband I could not reach. Whatever happened it ruined my battery and they had to replace my cable. They say when you have your oil changed that they should clean any possible build up which apparently the place that I took my car failed to do. So labor, battery & parts equaled $231.00. Two days later just before the arrival of my grandkids and running a couple errands for goodies, I locked myself out of the car by opening the trunk to place items in it and left my keys in the trunk. I never do that!!! Sure happy this past week is over and I hope you all had a better one!!
More on Tinker, the mini horse; one can google youtube and type in Tinker Salvation Army Bell Ringer and you can see videos of him “in action” He is so cute and quite talented I must say.
Have a good evening and a special tomorrow, hugs, Sally B

I seen somewhere that Tasty Temptation was mated to Union Rags for 2014 – cannot wait to see that baby! Also cannot wait to see pictures of her 2003 Unbridled’s Song colt.
And for those who may be interested, this from the Lane’s End website the names that they gave two year olds that will start in 2013. Cannot wait to see where these colts and fillies go on the track!
http://www.lanesend.com/2013/07/the-names-we-gave-them-in-2013.html
From that list, already on my Virtual Stable was
Honor Code (A.P. Indy – Serena’s Cat) Serena’s Cat has produced Noble Tune (who to date has earned $490k+ and is a G3 winner of the Pilgrim Stakes at Belmont and runner up in the 2012 Breeders Cup Juvenile Turf as a two year old. As a three year old this year won the G2 American Turf Stakes at Churchill Downs. Serena’s Cat, a daughter of Serena’s Tune (daughter of the brilliant Serena’s Song)
Special Agent (Medaglia d’Oro – Secret Status) Secret Status of course is the dam of Dunkirk and granddam Private Status produced Alumni Hall, Private Gift, Social Page, State Treasure, etc
Communicate (Street Cry – Sweet Talker) Sweet Talker was a grade one winner of the Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup at Keeneland and earned $1+ million for Courtlandt Farms (who also had Film Maker, Indescribable, etc)
Now all of the two year olds that Lane’s End had listed on that page have been added :)

Yes, Carol – that’s right. After hearing that news, Brenda called Lane’s End and was told that this year’s foal did not make it.

A Shocking/Street Cry story.
Have just been tidying my mountain of clippings and found this interesting bit on Shocking (Melbourne Cup winner, now standing at Rich Hill Stud in New Zealand). “Shocking showed early promise but had Kavanagh intrigued because he constantly had a nasal discharge. Not much gets past Kavanagh and he remembered having heard that 2007 Kentucky Derby winner Street Sense had a similar ailment. Shocking and Street Sense are sons of Street Cry and it turns out they were both allergic to sawdust. Alterations were made to the bedding in Shocking’s stall and the allergy cleared up”. The story is from Brendan Cormick in The Australian on 23 May 2009. Kavanagh is Mark Kavanagh, the trainer. Just love the care and commitment some trainers give to their charges.

Woof Woof It’s my Birthday
Hi it’s Angel
Wow what a great day today.
First thing this morning Mom, Jelly and Larry sand happy Birthday to me. Larry was a bit off key but he is still just a squirt. I do like playing with him he is fun. I am sure glad our Mom found him.
Anyway Mom showed me the cake this morning. I spent most of the day on my doggy bed sleeping and dreaming about that cake. Yum
After work Mom set the table for us and oh it was so beautiful. The candles on the cake where light and she even used her good china for us to eat from. Wow I am one very special pup.
Then they all sang again and Mom cut the cake. I got the biggest piece. Larry and Jelly just got half’s.
Wow wow it was fabulous even Larry was licking it up like crazy. Jelly is still thinking about hers. She can be a real pill.
Mom said if we were all good we can have seconds later.
Till next year over and out Angel

Thanks BGG. How exciting. It was reported many looked great this AM in workouts.
Wonderful that so many could visit and compete. The first turf race, at a mile and a half, featuring horses from abroad was the Washington DC International. Kelso finally won this race at the age of 7. My love of the turf began w/ this race and Wise Dan has made the US proud in becoming a Turf Champion.
This race is no more but the final tally was, US horses winning, 22 vs. International horses,21.

Great names for those young horses. About Zenny and human interaction, I can’t imagine that Zenny isn’t very popular with the folks at Lanes End. Who could resist her divine personality. Just imagine going to work everyday knowing that she’s there.
On another note I recall how much we all loved the Zenyatta Diary. Perhaps Zenyatta should write a book about her experiences on the track and with her humans. She could ask Dottie to coauthor what would obviously be a bestseller. The proceeds could go to equine charity.

Dear Max: He’s still known as “Jimmy” (he has his own fan page on the BC3 Thoroughbreds site – they’re the people who purchased him). Don’t know why no registered name has been given at the moment. Would you like me to pass your suggestion along? On the Nelly issue – Henry Plumptre (Darley) was talking to Sean Cosgrove on Skysportsradio a few days back. Sean wanted details on when the First Date was scheduled. Henry said if he told him, he would have to kill him. Our cable company has a new mini series I watched last night. It takes place in 1463 and is the story of King Edward IV and his Queen, Elizabeth Woodville. Edward IV and Henry VI have met in battle and in the first episode, Henry has lost and Edward is to be crowned. Have read books on The War of Roses before and this series is staying very true to history. So very, very good; well acted and entertaining. Hope you have access to it through your TV programing. Just checked up on Darren Weir – trainer of grey Puissance de Lune. Darren trains out of Ballarat, which is north of Melbourne. His facility is called Forest Lodge, and he also has stables at Warrnambool, which is on the coast, so that would be where the photo was taken. The ‘Bool” (as it’s locally known) is home to a lot of trainers, and the home of the jumps/steeplechase racing in Victoria. Cheers, KathyR.
