Sue Fredrick Happy as a lark
Hi all Zsters,
Have been spending time with my grandkids again, gee my recovery time is getting better and better, ha, ha.
I got my bet in for the team, hope I can contribute something this time, hard to beat Wise Dan.
Got back just in time for my Hovis fix only to find out he’s having a bad hair day. I guess horses must have them too, gosh he is just hysterical.
Good news about St Nick sounds like he’s doing great. Has anyone seen any reports on TC Indy, I’d like to know if he is still doing well too.
Wow, Frankel looks fantastic I guess the stud life agrees with him……and why wouldn’t it.
The new picture of Red is just fabulous…….he is just such a beauty, can’t wait to see more. And more pics and info on COZ.
Love and kisses to Zenny and the boys from Auntie Sue

Sorry guys lol I love this stuff :-) never get tired of looking through these pages. There are so many more that I have not listed – if I were to I would run up the next seven pages.
Celeste_in_TX
Oh, I love this stuff, too!! I may be sadly mistaken and don’t know where else to look, but it seems that the sales catalogs are one of the few ways to keep track of the fillies and colts coming out of the mares we have followed in their racing careers. The online racing sites are always touting the stallions’ progeny, but unless it is Zenyatta or Rachel Alexandra, it is hard to find information on the foals from the mares. When ever I do run across one and can try to keep track of it, as soon as I learn the name, I add it to my virtual stable. Thanks for the heads up for Keeneland catalog!
Peggy (N) South Georgia
Dear Tizherself
I love love this stuff. Thanks for posting. Love keeping track of them. I am looking forward to going through the OBS catalog too. I have a very keen fondness for some of the Florida Horses . Love going through that catalog with a fine tooth comb. Just love love loved our Florida Stallion Affirmed and so keep hoping some of his family tree will show up again great one day.
And I sure have to look real closely to Leroi’s family
Terry Crow
I have mixed feelings about these sales. Sales activities is what contributed to the Bluegrass bubble in the 80’s. A ,lot of unsavory characters profited and a lot of good people got hurt. One of the chief players was JT Lundy of Calumet. Hope it never happens again.
TIzHerself
Celeste_in_TX – agreed it is harder and harder to follow the babies out of the mares. I use pedigree query (www.pedigreequery.com) a lot to follow lines through and my Virtual Stable. As long as the updates stay current, it makes it somewhat easier to track foals.
Peggy – yes I like the Florida horses too – my number one favorite racehorse was a Florida bred (Skip Away!)
Terry Crow – was trying to look up but didn’t find a whole lot, what was the Bluegrass Bubble of the 80s?

Congratulations to all new Hall of Fame Members
Especially to Calvin and Invasor, I say especially to you guys as I have seen you both in person.
Also, Congratulations to Sheik Hamden for bringing us the great Invasor. Thank You.
Invasor I do forgive you for trying to bite me. I know you probably got mad at them from getting you out of your field that morning just to meet me. I know munching on the grass was more fun. But, I sure was glad to meet you. You wouldn’t have really bitten me would you?????????????????????????????? Love Ya

Agreed with the crossing of Invasor x Zenyatta…
Both had so much in common… if you look at pictures of both horses it seemed they both had ears pricked as they crossed the wire, during workout or when they heard a camera click….
Invasor, the Triple Crown winner x the Queen!!! Love it!
Congratulations also to McDynamo (long live Dynaformer!), Housebuster, Lure (one day I will get to Claiborne to see the champ!), and Tuscalee (whom I had never heard of but read his story and was happy to be educated on such a worthy champ to be in the HOF)
Ann NC
Ole Tuscalee was a champ and I cried tears of joy knowing he was honored.
I saw him race several times. Coming off the van on race day, folks would scratch their heads and ask why? Why is such a small horse jumping and running miles? Well, he showed them what the racing spirit is all about,he was all heart, he also had a mind of his own. It was a thrill watching him race. Never judge a horse by its cover and once you find the surface which suits them…stick by your guns!
Congrats to all for their great accomplishments. If those awards don’t make ya cry…….
TIzHerself
Ann – thanks so much for the recount of Tuscalee :-) while I am not as well versed with the steeplechase horses, I did see Vintage Crop at the Irish National Stud in Ireland in 2010 and I will treasure that immensely. His paddock mate was also a steeplechaser – Danoli – it was a true, true humbling experience to be in the presence of such greatness.
I rewatch Vintage Crop’s Melbourne Cup win in 1993 and get shivers.

The next video is Danoli’s win in the 1994 Sun Alliance Novices hurdle

Dear Sheena
I think he blamed me for them bringing him out of his pasture. He was just showing me some of his attitude.
I was reading the bloodhorse article on him and they said after one of his races that he won whenever they brought him back to the barn. He was so cool and collective it was like he was saying to them. Let’s Do That Again……………………………Thought that was so cool.

It is cool, Peggy. I am so glad you were able to have seen Big D.

I had forgotten that Tasty had rejected this baby – am looking forward to following him.

Hope that they televise this sale so that we can see Tasty’s boy. Definitely have to follow his career. He was handsome as a newborn. Hope especially that he gets a good owner and a happy life. He deserves it as all horses do.

You know what I want to see; a Zenyatta filly, to see if she would look like her mom. What about a Smarty Jones/Zenyatta breeding? TrueNicks gives it an A+. But a Zenyatta filly would look so cute.
Especially Horses / So Cal
Read the below about Secretariat’s dam Somethingroyal. I think Zenyatta is doing the same thing….giving her offspring a strong sense of identity — and her offspring know they are special.
Somethingroyal: Birth: 1952, Death: 1983
By Princequillo out of Imperatrice. Broodmare of the Year in 1973. She raced only once, August 2, 1954, at Saratoga, unplaced. Produced 4 stakes winners: SECRETARIAT (1973 Triple Crown Winner), SIR GAYLORD, FIRST FAMILY, SYRIAN SEA; and 5 stakes-placed: Somethingfabulous, Grand Coulee, Mostar, Capital Asset and Cherryville. Somethingroyal was 18 years-old when Secretariat was born. Secretariat’s owner, Penny Chenery, said Somethingroyal gave her offspring a strong sense of identity. She was top of the pecking order — and her offspring knew they were special. Oldest mare to foal a Triple Crown winner, at age 18. Died in 1983, at 31 years of age.

Sally Blank (cherish Z for my lifetime)
Hello all, I ran down here after baking some chocolate chip cookies. My son, who is divorced has his three kids again and they are all coming our way again! ! I love them dearly, but between having his German Sheperd for a week at a time, and these growing non tiring kids, I have not been able to just relax and read all your posts. Recently as you know I came to our site but then I could not post and I was really frustrated because I had a free time and that darn thing did not work.
This has been going on since the beginning of our summer in Wisconsin as we have lake access and so my son continues to test my endurance!! It sure is not cheap feeding all of them either!! My son says, oh mom, summer is so short. I hope I live through the summer. haha When they finally leave after the weekend and it is quiet you begin to miss the dog, the kids etc.; what is wrong with me! ha
This September we are having a big Fundraiser for the Cedar Valley Horse Sanctuary.
Guess who is coming to spend this time for our event? Tinker!! He is a pretty well known mini horse around the area who actually holds a bell and can ring it to collect donations. It was so kind of the owner to offer to come. I personally can’t wait to meet him myself!! There are some bonuses to volunteering; but in the end it is for the love of the horses.
I hope all are well and our horses.
hugs, Sally B

Sally B,
Sending you good thoughts for patience and endurance to handle the invasion of your son and children. It is the proverbial conundrum. I want peace and quiet, but once I get it, it is too quiet. So there is nothing wrong with you.
Also wishing you a success with your fund raiser.
Hugs out to you,
Janet N.

Sally–you are so blessed to be able to spend time with family. And I completely understand about German Shepherds. Ours (Daisy) has been in more than usual because of the heat, and one can barely take a step without having to go over or around her!
Please do give dear Tinker our love. There is nothing cuter than a mini!
Hugs.

Dear Z-sters,
I’m way behind in reading the Blog comments, but I must check in to say happy birthday to two most special connections of Queen Zenyatta, her lady-in-waiting Dottie Shirreffs and her loyal knight Mike Smith. In birthday poems, I have only a repost of my poem for Dottie from two years ago to offer—it was the poem that started my poetic birthday celebrations and now will bring them to a close. Let’s take a walk together down memory lane back to the days of the Diary when Dottie was so charmingly the Voice of Zenyatta. Happy birthday, Dottie! Happy birthday, Mikie!
There was no telling what was to be
The day that Dottie started Zenyatta’s diary…
A Birthday Poem for Dottie Ingordo-Shirreffs
(August 10, 2011)
Dottie’s the one who gives Zenyatta a voice
And makes Zenyatta.com the blog of choice.
Dottie composes with much wit and charm
So Z can tell fans of her life on the farm.
As Z transitions from one role to another
And undertakes to become a mother,
Dottie channels Z’s news
To the many who love her,
Easing those “I-miss-Z” blues.
With her diary we suffer less sorrow
’Cause we still are part
Of Z’s tomorrow
And she speaks to us heart to heart.
When a new entry arrives, we all hurry
To read our dear Z’s soliloquy
With her wonderful life philosophy.
We pause to ingest
Because it’s the best.
Then there’s a flurry
As to our keyboards we scurry
And rush to reply,
For we all have something to say—
Such a bright spot in our day!
Then we return
Again and again to learn
What others have written–
With Z’s diary we’re all clearly smitten.
Yes, with Z now in Kentucky,
We sure are lucky
That Dottie’s her scribe
And that she makes us part of her tribe,
For at Zenyatta.com, the DOT COM that you see
Refers to the COM-munity
DOT-tie has founded
Where we all reside
And all that is good can abide.
We are made part of “Zenyatta’s connections”
And truly feel
Strong bonds of affection.
Here we share Zenyatta’s story
And relive her amazing glory.
We share horse racing lore—
But also much more.
When we’re feeling adrift,
Here we get our uplift.
When we are weary with worry,
It’s here that we hurry.
Here we can share
With people who care.
So let’s lift a stein of good lager—
For Zenyatta, make that a Guinness—
And drink a toast to our Dottie
To show her,
THE WORLD’S GREATEST BLOGGER,
Just how much gratitude is in us!
Hoof, hoof, hoof-ray
For Dottie the Great!
Hoof, hoof, hoof-ray,
She’s truly first rate!
Hoof, hoof, hoof-ray
For dear Dottie on her birthday!
Sue Fl CPRC

I didn’t expect to be fighting tears this early in the morning Trina! Thanks for the great reprise of your first poem for our dear Dottie and best wishes to both her and Zenny’s knight Mike today. Finding Z’s diary changed my life, and I can honestly say to Dottie (with apologies to the wonderful song from Wicked), “because I knew you, I have been changed for good.” The same goes for you Trina – I will never forget finding my poem and feeling for the first time like I was really part of Z’s community. As time passed, I learned so much about so many of our dear friends here, and my “family of choice” has increased considerably. “Thank you” doesn’t even begin . . . .♥♥ ♥♥ ♥♥ Sandy

Normandy Invasion is sitting out the rest of the season. Just found this on Bloodhorse.com. Seems like the right decision for the horse – his fans will just have to wait until he is 100%.
“Owner Rick Porter initially thought he might get 3-year-old Normandy Invasion back to the races before the end of 2013, but confirmed Aug. 9 the Fox Hill Farms runner will miss the remainder of the season.
Normandy Invasion, fourth last time out in the Kentucky Derby Presented by Yum! Brands (gr. I) for trainer Chad Brown, will get at least 60 days at WinStar Farm near Lexington, Porter said.”
TIzHerself
Racing needs more and more owners like the Mosses, Rick Porter, etc., who put the well being of the horse first and give the horse time to be 100% before they race again. It is comforting to know that Normandy Invasion is going to come back as a 4 year old, am hoping that lots from this 3 yo crop follow suit as there are so many that are only going to get better!

She hasn’t made her first appearance yet, but I think it will be anyday. Have to find out who newly bought her. She is having workouts everyweek. So I know she is getting close to running her first race there.
I am worried terribly about her. If you hear anything about Gabbiano please let me know. She worked again just this past week. Heard a lot of people don’t like the track at DelMar so I am very worried. She has only raced at Monmouth and is only 3.

Peggy, I understand how you feel completely! There are so many of these horses that I worry about every single day. Too many of them fall through the cracks and disappear. It’s nerve wracking! I wish there was a way to track them all.

Louise and Barbara,
I know I pray for them all the time.

Peggy , I understand too. I’ve had to stop adding to my virtual stable, because there are so many. When the notifications come in, I just say a little prayer for them…..hugs.

Peggy-You and all of the others who worry about how things will work out for these magnificent horses are the salt of the earth. As one who is familiar with the Calumet story, I was just making the point that the puke who was running the farm in the 80s was heavily involved in the sales and the money involved. The subsequent collapse was a disaster for a lot of legitimate folks in the horse business.

Does anyone know when Little Red is going to be weaned? Don’t think it will be long now. Poor Baby!
