KathyR
Dear Peggy:
Join with you and others in worrying about Street Cry: just be assured that the Darley people in the Hunter Valley are totally committed to the horses under their care – it’s a beautiful part of the world and he’s also loved Downunder. St Francis is going to be busy for a while. Hugs KathyR

Mystery ailment strikes Darley sire Street Cry
By Bloodstock World Staff 5 SEP 2014
DARLEY shuttle sire Street Cry is suffering from a neurological ailment that has left him unable to stand for long periods of time.
The disorder, which has left the 16-year-old severely lame on his right foreleg, means he is unlikely to be able to fulfil his southern hemisphere breeding commitments for the season, which began on Monday.
Darley Australia managing director Henry Plumptre said breeders had been notified of the situation.

I am so sad to hear about Street Cry and pray Z’s Dad will recover fully.
Dear Sheena
NATO meeting in your country this week-looks so serene there.Stark contrast to so many places, hoping for some movement towards peace. I am so sad that Deri is gone, did not see Monty today but sounds like he is still on the Dyfi. This is so hard to see them go with such a big journey ahead. You have been through this 4 time and I bet it doesn’t get easier. Praying for a safe trip for all.
Dear Max
I loved the Hovis update as usual. He is a gem-what a good sport for charity. Old Friends showed a video of their wee horse(Little Lucky Charm?) after ice cubes were emptied on her and she wasn’t so calm.Really funny to watch her expresson!! Thanks for the uplifting Hovis news!
Dear Judy
Thank-you for the video of Z running free when she came to Lane’s End.I have seen it but had a busy day and it was so nice to watch it again.Had a great day with Dad.He is so sharp and funny, and my cousins really enjoyed their time with him, made him happy too.
Goodnight to all my Z friends and to Z,Coz,Zi and Princess Love and hugs, Debbie
Max
Debbie. Little Silver Charm is no she. He like every other male horse in this world even the tiny ones is madly in love with Zenyatta. He is always trying to get her attention. He wants her to take the ice bucket challenge. No far silence. Z is busy, and too intelligent to throw ice water in her regal self. She does lots of other things for good causes.
Free the Moose! Beast, Snake, and champ, get your sleep.
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear debbie s:
Glad you enjoyed Z’s video all over again. Wonderful day with your Dad; that’s great. Love and Hugs, JB
Peggy (N) South Georgia
Dear KathyR
I remember a heart warming episode from The New Adventures of Black Beauty where Dr. Gordon saved all these aging horses. Some were even not in the best shape, but he wanted them to live out their lives for as long as they could. In a beautiful huge grazing land. I remember they seemed so at peace. Old people and Old Animals just always hoping they can live out their lives in dignity and always hoping the good lord can grace us with their lives as long as he sees fit without them suffering too much. I believe like Dr. Gordon did.
Peggy (N) South Georgia
Kathyr
Just looked up British Actor William Lucas who played Dr Gordon. He is still living and 89 years old. Just adore him. Part of this Black Beatuy series was filmed in Great Britain and New Zealand. I thought I would so like to visit Australia and NewZealand one of the prettiest places I have ever seen on film.
KathyR
Dear Peggy (N):
The Kiwis are justifiably proud of their country – the landscape is truly magnificent. They get a lot more rain and snow than Australia, and so are far more lush. They’re also a younger country geologically speaking, hence the Swiss-type mountains, whereas Australia is an ancient land and worn down. Cried and cried when I read Black Beauty in my early teens and never saw the series. Hugs KathyR

Dear Peggy, Kathy R and Sally:
Loved the Black Beauty book, and the original movie too as a child. I think it was Black Beauty that made me first fall in love with horses. Love and Hugs, JB
shirleeinindy
Judy,
Didn’t see the movie or the TV series but sobbed my way through the book. Like you, it really encouraged my love of horses.
Do kids read Black Beauty these days?
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear Shirlee:
I hope so; they’re missing out on a beautiful story if they’re not. Seems kids these days are playing video games more than reading books. I guess the lucky ones have parents and grand parents who introduce Black Beauty and other wonderful books that they remember from their childhood to their children and grand children. Love and Hugs, JB
Marshall (NC Broad)
Dear Judy,
I loved the book, also, and I remember crying as well (especially about poor Ginger). It is a great book, and I hope children are still reading it.
I also loved the Walter Farley books about The Black Stallion and all the others. I used to run around pretending that I was a wild horse, whinnying, snorting, and pawing the ground. What fun that was! Good exercise, too.
Goodnight and sleep tight! Lots of Hugs and Love
Peggy (N) South Georgia
Dear Sally, Judy, KathyR, Sheena,
Black Beauty was just the best wasn’t he. The 70’s British TV Series plus the 90’s one as well was just wonderful.

Dear Debbie.Oh,it never gets any easier seeing them leave the Dyfi.I’ve seen Monty a few times today,he had caught a mullet for Deri and was looking for her.I should imagine he will leave tomorrow. His work is done now for another season,it would be so wonderful if one of his chicks survived.Yes,Wales is a lovely place to live and beautiful countryside too.I’m so glad you all had a lovely day and that your Dad is so well.Goodnight Love and hugs Sheena.

Shirleyinindy….where did you hear that Lea was ill…..he was entered in the same race as Danny last weekend….Lea was MTO….so when the race stayed on the turf…he was scratched….what happened?
….
Nelly….do not pull a “Tasty” on us …please…Tasty gone but never forgotten…she was suppose to deliver that first foal at the same time as Z…but being Tasty she held out for 3 more weeks….we will all be dropping from all the PACING by then.
Max
carol. Aussies say the due date is September 11, nearly another week to go. It’s also only an educated guess because these mares can foal whenever near the date.

Carol, He was entered in a race at Churchill today but Bloodhorse.com said he had spiked a fever and been scratched.

Not only did I get the name wrong,I got the sex wrong .Little Silver Charm, sir, you did a noble thing having ice spilled all over you and I am so sorry Z did not answer your call(or should I say calls) and go for the challenge. She is a busy Momma and involved in other charities.LSC,your photo is all over facebook and someone at Lane’s End is sure to recognize that you would make a wonderful companion during Z;s year off. That is, if you are a gelding,(or perhaps that is not such an issue given the logistics). You have good taste,Z is the Queen. You may be small but you are mighty. Goodnight,Debbie

Max
The Beast’s people have announced that his surgery went well. No other damage from a chip was found to his ankle. He will be given 75 days off before going back to training. Beast, I’ll be counting down the days. Try to be a good patient.
Free the Moose. Snake, you’re still in training. Same for you, Danny.
KathyR
Dear Max:
Excellent news! Now be a good role model for little Thurzel.
Max
KathyR. If I were you, I might want to rethink that idea of a role model. The Beast is known for rearing up and escaping his handlers on a daily basis. In other words, he’s a beast and I doubt that this is going to change. A good role model for the tiny Thurzel would be the tiny Zenyatta. Look how gracious that Z is with everyone. Calm. Sweet. Cooperative. She also has a close relationship with Ann Moss. When Mrs Moss appears, Z always goes over to see her and shows affection. Really don’t think that you can count on the Beast to do that. My advice: Z’s the one.
Free that Moose! Beast, 71 days. Snake and Champ, enjoy your Saturday.

Sue Fredrick Happy as a lark
Hi All,
Have had out of town guests and our annual Humane Society Garage sale so I’ve been busy and will have to catch up.
Praying for Street Cry to Power Up, and I lit a candle for healing, hope he beats this thing and it doesn’t turn into Laminitus we have lost so many horses this year in one tragic way or another, enough is enough.
Glad to see Zenny and family are well with no problems. Soon she will be giving up her Zeaster Lily with no baby in the offing. Will sure be strange not waiting and pacing this Spring for her delivery. I guess we all need a vacation once in a while.
Praying for a safe delivery for BC who is due shortly, certainly hope there are no complications for her or baby.
Hope all of you on the blog are well, will take time to catch up. hugs
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear Sue Fredrick:
How did the HMS garage sale go? Praying hard for Street Cry too. Love and Hugs, JB
Sue Fredrick Happy as a lark
Dear Sweet Judy,
HMS garage sale went well, what a circus, it’s five days of setting up, collecting items, we do open it up to the whole town for donations, so there are many items and then we have to sort them and price them all. We also include a bake sale and dog and cat items sale which includes home made treats. So between baking and cleaning out our own garages and then setting up we are all exhausted after. Monday is out meeting so we will find out the financial totals, but since we receive no money from the county at all we have to work out butts off just to keep the place running and pay salaries. It makes me feel good to donate my time for this cause as some of the old farmers in the area have told me they should go back to just shooting them like they used to. Imagine that!!
I was tempted to kick him in the knee but I bit my tongue! LOL Thanks for asking…love and hugs
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear Sue Fredrick:
God Bless you for all you do for these poor babies. If you ever decide to confront this “farmer” about his suggestion that “they should go back to just shooting them like they used to”, please give him a kick from me too. Love and Hugs, JB

Praying for Street Cry and am lighting a candle every night.
So happy Beast’s surgery went well and will follow his recovery.
Missing the ospreys on the Dyfi, thanks for the photo of Monty Sheena. He looks so lonely-such a good Dad looking for Deri and waiting this long to make sure she had gone.Godspeed,we will miss you all.
Power up all sick horses,Z and family may you stay healthy and Zenny, hope you have some good pasture mates for the coming year.
Hugs,Debbie

I just realized that I wrongly decided to stay on the old blog after thinking that’s what we were doing. Just posted a long entry wondering if I’m the only one who couldn’t get the video of Hovis. it is so frustrating. I am on FB, I have updated FlashPlayer, and everything else I know to do, SO very frustrating. Happy weekend, all. Hugs.
SO distressed to hear about Street Cry. He is still young. I know they are going to keep doing it, but I hate to see our horses shuffled all over the world. That has to be hard on their bodies and internal systems. I just feel it is very risky.

Sandy, you were right between 3ld and 4th race.

Looking at the effect of long distance travel on the horses is very important. Street Cry is so far from home and the travel and getting use to a new place has to be stressful.
I am thinking about Flower Alley(and others) and plans for him to go to South Africa.
Judy, you mentoned he is going,I wonder when is that happening?
There is a link that is called,”Three Chimneys,Second Career and Flower Alley” which has amazing photos of him and describes a day in the life of Flower Alley. His life at Three Chimneys has been about work and making the horse happy..Flower Alley has been ridden every day by Brian VanSteenberg who is “compact and strong but with soft hands and a gentle heart.” (he never carries a whip). The stallions at Three Chimneys are ridden in the early am, have breakfast then, work and have 15-17 hrs running free in the good weather. I would like Flower Alley to stay where he is.I do think the horses are put at risk with shuttling long distances and sending them to operations overseas, it makes me sad.Hope Street Cry makes a complete recovery and is able to come home one day. Debbie S
Max
Debbie. It’s a very good idea to give the stallions some exercise. Not all farms do that. Three Chimneys is known to exercise by riding. But they never rode Big D. Nobody had the nerve to try to get near him much less ride Big D. I read that Frankel on the other hand over in England is hand walked for exercise. I think that he gets about 7 miles a day. When you are a top horsey athlete, it is hard to go from daily training to nothing at all.
Free the Moose. Beast, are you asleep yet? Sack time too for the Snake and the Champ.
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear debbie s:
Here’s the article I read about Flower Alley standing at stud in South Africa. It just says he will go to South Africa in 2015. Hope he stays safe and sound. Love and Hugs, JB
http://www.paulickreport.com/news/bloodstock/flower-alley-sold-to-stand-in-south-africa/
Max
JudyB. Flower Alley was owned by Eugene Melnyck, but he recently sold off his breeding and racing assets. I think that he owns an NHL team in Canada and is concentrating on hockey. Twice Over, Henry Cecil’s favorite horse, was sold to the South Africans. Dan’s dam sire, Wolf Power, was South African. Few are finer than that handsome gray. However, SA is a long way away from Kentucky or Newmarket.
Free the Moose! Beast, you’re staying in NY. Snake and Danny, you’re not going anywhere either. Dan, even your trip to Toronto has been cancelled.
