What You Need to Know for the Highs & Lows
This life is full of ups and downs. There are moments when it seems as if you're touching the hem of heaven because they're so dazzling. And others when it seems you stand on the brink of hell because they're so heart wrenching.
We can tend to feel far away from God in both. When times are good, we forget how much we need Him. When times are hard, we wonder why He has forsaken us. And yet both of those responses are only our humanity talking.
Neither height nor depth…will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. Romans 8:39
God's affection for us is the same at the highest and lowest moments of our lives. The heights of success and the depths of despair cannot separate us from Him. His love is the one constant we can count on no matter what.
Take comfort in this, friend: Whether this is your best day on earth or one of your worst, you will never be alone or unloved. Not even for a moment.

Sheena is right about the term as it is used in the UK. American slang word meaning is entirely different.

I believe all of you – I just don’t “get it.” Is “beak” short for some other word? Not a biggie – just trying to understand :-)
KathyR
Dear Sandy:
Like you I was puzzled about the origins of the word “beak” in slang. So did a quick search, and found this little bit of information – seems no-one really knows where it came from – could be old French, or old English. Is a term only rarely used here in Australia. Hope this helps your curiosity must admit, it didn’t help mine! Hugs, KathyR.

A Pedigree Story Made for Hollywood
Mahubah’s Corner By Avalyn Hunter The Blood-Horse May 15, 2014
In a hackneyed Hollywood formula for a racing movie, an ordinary man buys a cheap mare, breeds her to a little-known stallion, puts the resulting colt in the care of a down-on-his-luck trainer, and wins the Kentucky Derby. No movie studio would buy such a shopworn screenplay. But tweak the manuscript just a little, and you have the real-life story of California Chrome. The son of an $8,000 mare and a stallion that stood for $2,500 in the year of his conception, the flashy chestnut became the first California-bred since Decidedly in 1962 to win the Run for the Roses.

Seattle Slew, A.P. Indy & Northern Dancer! Excellent pedigree info.
But it has fallen to a much less heralded son of Pulpit, Lucky Pulpit, to sire the first classic winner from the A.P. Indy/Pulpit branch of Seattle Slew

Dear Max.Lovely photo of the statue.Kauto adores him and now he will get the statue he deserves at Kempton, can’t wait to see it.Maybe you’ve heard about the surprise winner of the Dante and he had to survive a stewards inquiry,he veered off course an interfered with True Story but it would never have changed the outcome so Australia is a firm favourite for the Derby now. He,is,after all superbly bred for the task. Her Majesty will be flying back by helicopter to catch the race at Epsom,i thought she’d never miss the Derby!!Free the Moose.Sheena
Max
Sheena. Thank you so much for this news. I’m thrilled to absolute bits about the Dante. I was reading about GG the other night and was thinking that he could be a winner. I did not expect it to come true. Inbred to Northern Dancer and looks like Tasty cannot be better. Bravo!
Good for helicopters that The Queen can exit France and get back for Epsom.
Waiting patiently for that statue, and the DVD.

Meehan horsebox involved in accident
By Lewis porteous RacingPost. com 8:00PM 15 MAY 2014
TWO people were killed in a five-vehicle collision on the M11 that included a horsebox carrying Brian Meehan’s three intended runners to Thursday night’s meeting at Newmarket.
In all, five horses from Meehan’s Manton stable were involved in the incident and were receiving treatment on Thursday night at the Newmarket Equine Centre.
Meehan said: “There were two other horses accompanying our three runners –
Pivot Point, Mustadaam and Da Do Run Run – to Newmarket.
One was the pony we use to lead some horses down to the start, the other was a horse on his way home.
“Details are still unclear, but they were all taken to the Equine Centre for assessment by the vets, and we don’t know the extent of any injuries at the moment.
Meehan’s staff who were accompanying the horses are believed to have escaped serious injury.

Wildfires raging in Southern California pass 10,000-acre mark
By Veronica Rocha, Jill Cowan, Rosanna Xia L. A. Times May 15, 2014
The wildfires raging across Southern California have scorched more than 10,000 acres, with crews struggling to protect hundreds of homes from advancing flames..
At a news conference Thursday afternoon, officials said an 18-unit apartment complex in Carlsbad and at least seven houses had been destroyed in the more than half-dozen brush fires that have flared up in San Diego County since Wednesday.
San Diego County Supervisor Dianne Jacob urged residents to heed evacuation orders as they come.

Sources: All but one fire burning in San Diego County have a suspicious ignition point
By: Team 10 Posted: 9:56 AM, May 15, 2014
Team 10 sources say all but one of the fires that have been burning across San Diego County have a suspicious ignition point.
‘Fire bugs’ is the term being used inside the fire agencies. Sources say the fires started in a way that were not normal — there were no sparks from a lawnmower or car engine, no thrown cigarettes and no cars involved.
http://www.10news.com/news/sources-all-but-one-fire-burning-in-san-diego-county-has-a-suspicious-ignition-point?
KathyR
Dear Bluegrass Girl
Firebugs are a dreadful problem – the majority of the bush fires Downunder are caused by firebugs, and shockingly we’ve recently found volunteer fire fighters have been responsible for some – according to police they have a need to be important, so set the fires, and then go back to help put them out. Just so tragic for all involved. There’s some work going on here to see if they can pinpoint the sort of personality that will become a firebug, and try to correct the issue before it gets out of control – it seems to start in the mid-teens. But as I say, it’s just so tragic. Hugs, KathyR.
Bluegrass Girl
KathyR
Maps do help. Firefighters have code words for the fires which do not really give info on the location. And, these are spread over a large area.
Yesterday I did read that arson suspects had been picked up.
The technology today is amazing-tracking the source/cause of fires.
I know that you have a special understanding of these fires with all that has gone on Downunder over the past couple of years. Same type of conditions in Southern California this year-very dry, very hot, and winds.

May 16 Cherokee Devotional
There is a chance that a decision we make will lead us into battle, an inward and an outward battle against our own will and against the negative flow of the world in general. A cherished goal challenges us that we cannot do it-we can’t possibly do what smarter people have tried and failed to do. But chances are we have a source of wisdom that others may not have had, though everything points to their advantages over ours. Maybe we have a source that is more reliable, that no weapon formed against us can prosper. Chief John Ross taught the Cherokees to be persistent. Not a moment could be wasted in apathy, but we had to be there with muscles and mind toned and ready. The tribe’s willingness to follow through with honor and integrity helped us to survive.
Our cause is with God and good men, and there we are willing to leave it.
