Dear Max:
Voila Ici was very well behaved in the mounting yard, jumped well and settled into second, but was run down in the last stages to finish fourth. His original Australian trainer (Peter Moody) has flown to France for a holiday where he will take part in a walking tour of World War I battlefields, especially those with significance to Australia. Cheers, KathyR.
Max
KathyR. Next time for the handsome gray? It takes time to get over romantic heartache.

May 10 Cherokee Devotional
We are complex combinations of many things. Mind, body and spirit, yes, but with all the height and depth and feeling that make up the three. If one of these is not kept in shape and made to be harmonious with the others, we are out of balance. There is almost always more interest in one part rather than seeing the necessity of developing the whole person. What reading a book is to one person equals running a mile to another. It is natural to do what pleases us and makes us feel worthy. The Cherokee claims that if you tso tle s di, sit down all the time or are idle in mind and spirit, the whole i ya dv ne li da s di, complex system, suffers. Once upon a time, Indian dancing served the whole person, worshiping, exercising, and activating the mind. True fitness requires it all.
We work as hard as you do! Did you ever try skinning a buffalo?

Best Wishes for a very Happy Birthday! Hope you have a wonderful day and many, many more lovely years to come! All the Best, Always! Hugs
Kathy
Dear Max,
Hundreds of times for GWTW? Wow…So to pick up from yesterday, Rhett turns down Scarlett flat for the loan due to the callouses on her hands and she ends up marrying Frank Kennedy, her SISTER’S beau, who writes that check. Ahhhhh! Scarlett, Scarlett, Scarlett! As I recall that sister ends up an old maid. Was that Sue Ellen? Such a great film. I hadn’t thought of it ’til Hovis’ mention of the curtains for his superhero cape. And yes, I remember so well that great parody on The Carol Burnett Show, with the curtain rod still in. So funny! Of today’s actresses I think Meryl Streep is by far the greatest. She BECAME Margaret Thatcher in The Iron Lady and she BECAME Julia Child in was it Cooking With Julia? Have you seen August: Osage County? Another great performance. Okay gotta run. Happy Saturday. Free the Moose!
Max
Kathy. I only watch GWTW because it’s shown so often and I like reading about the Civil War. I think that Suellen is only afraid of being single after Scarlett marries Frank Kennedy, but it’s not clear from the movie if she ends up that way. The book and movie are different.
I am a fan of old movies. For newer ones, I prefer action films like the Expendables and Transporter series. Also like movies such as Gone in Sixty Seconds for the cars. As Hovis might say, I go for the manly films.
Free the Moose! Neigh x 9.
Kathy
Max,
I enjoy the Civil War, too. Have visited Vicksburg, hope to someday visit Gettysburg. Back to GWTW…the people who live in the South thought the depiction of the mansions in the film were hysterical, particularly Twelve Oaks. The true antebellum mansions are no where near as grand. Hollywood gets it wrong again!
Max
Kathy. Actually my favorite scenes in the movie were Tara, followed by shots of Atlanta before Sherman got there.
Terry Crow
Civil Wat films are generally not up to the subject matter but I do like Gettysburg with Jeff Daniels as Chamberlain and Tom Berenger as Longstreet. Martin Sheen, of all people, does a good job as Lee. There is a scene where Lee goes out riding among his men and they all gather around him calling his name. The bewildered look on Sheen’s face is real because it was unscripted. It turned out so well the director left it in the finished film.

Dear Kathy:
Love Meryl Streep. Just rented August: Osage County; another great performance by MS. Love and Hugs, JB
Kathy
Dear Judy,
There’s no other actress out there today who is in Meryl Streep’s league. Amazing ability.
Hugs, Kathy

Happy Mother’s Day weekend to all the moms out there…of both the 2-legged and the 4-legged varieties!
Kathy
Dear Max,
An interesting bit of trivia…Gone With the Wind was screened in a theater for the first time in my home town of Riverside, CA. at the Fox Theater. The people thought they were going to see something else and they were shown GWTW. Pretty cool, huh?

Happy Mothers day to the wonderful, beautiful Zenyatta!!!! Your babies are so lucky to have you for a mom!!! We love you Dennis!!!

Dear Max.Thank you for your good wishes.Ah, you know my horsey dreams so well!! The weather affected the racing and Badminton today lots of tired horses on the XC it’s certainly turned autumnal over here.Manly films??you certainly have a touch of the Hovis about you!I love all the “chick flicks” and Disney but am partial to a Clint Eastwood film sometimes.Free The Moose.Sheena.
Max
Sheena. Not certain how popular these films are in the UK, but nothing beats a good western movie. I really like John Wayne movies. The horses are great in those films. One of my favorite scenes is the political meeting in The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance. The horse comes into the hall and then goes up on stage and drinks out of the water pitcher while the peeps are arguing about the nomination. It’s priceless.
Ann NC
Max, so funny. We had a soda can bandit at the barn. The horse could steal a canned beverage from an innocent victim, raise his head and finish off the contents.
He even curled his lip just looking at one. Always a great entertainer!

Dear Ann:
That’s amazing. Now we have a Soda Bandit and a Blanket Bandit. Love and Hugs, JB

Zenyatta, in case I don’t get time later/tomorrow herein is my wish to you and yours for a wonderful Mother’s Day:
(I did take poetic license with Ziconic’s nickname, for the flow of the poem.)
Zenyatta, you have given us Coz, Con and Princess 14Z
Where else can we find a more Perfect Pick-Three?
Your offspring have given you no trouble, you see
Advancing from a winning Daily Double to this Perfect Pick-Three
We gaze in awe and in unabashed glee
As we follow the careers of this Perfect Pick-Three
They will fly from the starting gate, from whence they eagerly flee
To pose for photos (as you did), this Perfect Pick-Three
We say to you, our Un-be-liev-able Queen Z
HAPPY Mother’s Day from the Dumplings AND
YOUR Perfect Pick Three! :-)

Here’s something to chew on: I read this magazine The Week, which has a crossword on last page. In the May 9th issue the theme was “Pony Up,” which piqued my interest.
Here are a some clues from puzzle.
#38 across was: May 3 event, six of whose past wins are listed here with their years.
#1 Across: Missouri River city (1935.)
#21 across: Ticket from the police (1948)’#
Anne from Paramount
okay, so I’m not done yet! Silly fingers/computer.!)
# 17 across: Savoir faire (in common parlance) (2007)
#61 across: Administrative office as of the U.N. (1973)
# 71 Across: Marshy area: (1984.)
# 56 across; Agreed to, as an oath (1978)
The one I had the most problem with was the most recent! I wanted to get them all by myself w/o help, or at least with the other clues fitting in to give me letters.
Anyway, isn’t this clever and so delightful???

Dear Kathy R. Thank you for the birthday wishes. It’s a very miserable night over here,if you ever need any rain….How is Belle Couture after her race?hope she is alright. There will never be another Caviar.Looking forward to her foal.Hugs Sheena.
KathyR
Dear sheen:
Always happy to get rain – will leave the distribution of the wet stuff in your capable hands. No word on Belle Couture – the trainer was going to get a full vet inspection carried out, because she was just not a happy horse in the race. And you’re right, don’t think we’ll see another Nelly for a long time. But then again, maybe the magical Zenyatta’s Princess is going to achieve greatness. Just as long as she’s safe. Hope that windy weather blows out soon – don’t want to upset anyone sitting on eggs! Hugs, KathyR
PS: Just saw on Racing Retro this morning one of your jumps jockeys doing an incredible job staying on his horse which came down awkwardly from a jump – did’t get his name, or the race (which he won) but it was some act of horsemanship – hanging on around the neck and then getting back on board! Hugs.

I’m happy that Zenny will have a relaxed year–she deserves it! Would love to see her playing and rolling–just for the fun of it–again! She’s a great mom, and will always be, but the year off is a great idea.
Am I the only person who loves Zenny looking for tee and sweatshirts? Can the Z Shop provide some more? High quality? Why should we stop wearing shirts that show the greatest race mare in the world? I’ve looked on all sites but all that comes up are Rachel Alexandra shirts. I love her, too, very much, but still want new Z shirts!
