Friday brings news of a new superhero. Hovis discusses his exciting new status.
Enjoy the weekend.

Kathy
Dear Max,
Thanks for our Friday dose of Hovis! Hovis, you already were our superhero. And just remember, if Scarlett O’Hara could have a dress out of the drapes, you can certainly have a superhero cape out of the curtains. Not many alterations at all, I’ll bet. Have a nice weekend, everyone.
Terry Crow
At least Hovis is an inconsistent pain in the posterior. I have been accused of being a constant one. If the green light therapy turns him into a superhero, I have a suggestion for his new name. The Amazing Wind Man.
Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
Hovis must not realize his superhero status with his fans. At least he survived the perils of the week. Thanks, as always, to Sheena via Max for our Friday treat!

Dear Max:
Thank you once again for posting Hovis’ Diary. Just love him; great photo too. Love and Hugs, JB

Sentences half spoken and beyond total hearing are the source of difficulty. Only in the bright light of reason and understanding can these cloudy mishaps be corrected/ Some are simply tuned to hear the negative-even when it was never intended to be. They hear with an ear that is already bent toward trouble and only too willing to pass it on. We might consider what we want to hear-because everyone has moments when words tumble out with little meaning. Whether it is a slip of the tongue or simply filling in a quiet spell, we are sometimes guilty of speaking when we should have been listening. The tongue is a little member and sometimes kindles quite a fire when it should spit on the matches.
We are becoming like them…all talkers and no workers.

Off to visit the rest now and finally get to see what Hovis has been up to!Curtains and Scarlett OHara???Have a great Friday.Hugs to you,Kisses for Holly,Nikko and Sugar.Sheena.
Kathy
Dear Sheena,
In Gone With the Wind, Scarlett is trying to figure out how to win Rhett Butler back. It’s after the War and they’re destitute. She can’t go to meet Rhett looking all shabby so her eyes land on the green velvet drapes. She has an idea! She enlists Mammy to make a beautiful dress out of them, goes to meet Rhett pretending everything is great at the plantation, but Rhett calls her out on the callouses on her hands from the hard work she’s been doing out in the cotton fields. Anyway, that’s what that reference was all about. Have a great day and a wonderful weekend. Hugs from me, kisses from Holly, Nikko and Sugar. Kathy.
Max
Sheena. Scarlett was not trying to win Rhett Butler back. She was in love with Ashley Wilkes. Scarlett went to see Rhett to get $300.00 to pay the taxes on Tara. Vivian Leigh, a Brit, played the part of Scarlett. There were lots of roles for horses in that movie too.
shirleeinindy
And Carol Burnett did a wonderful take off on the curtains on her show. Still cracks me up!
Max
shirlee. That was great. I’m still laughing.

Dear Shirley:
That scene with the curtain “dress” in Carol Burnett’s parody of Scarlet O’Hara is my favorite episodes. Used to watch the Carol Burnett Show every week. Her team of actors was hilarious as well; especially loved Harvey Korman and Tim Conway. Love and Hugs, JB
Kathy
Dear Max,
That’s right. I remembered after I had posted. She tries to figure out how she’s going to get him back at the end of the film.

Kathy
Dear Carol,
I’m so sorry you have lost your beloved Roxy. My heart feels heavy for you. There’s nothing worse than losing a furbaby. Roxy is well again, frolicking and waiting on the other side for you. Hugs, Kathy.
Kathy
Dear Trina,
That was a beautiful and very comforting poem you posted for Carol. Thank you. Hugs, Kathy.

Carol – So sorry for your little Roxy. The Rainbow Bridge has another angel watching and waiting for us. Remember all the wonderful moments you had together.
On the lighter side does anyone remember the Carol Burnett skit about Scarlett O’Hara. This makes me laugh every time I see it.
Hope all have a wonderful Mother’s Day. Especially you Zenyatta. Enjoy your beautiful Z14.

Carol in Arkansas,
So sorry to hear of your loss. Roxy knew your love her entire life. She was fortunate to have you and in turn she blessed your life with unconditional love.
RIP sweet Roxy.
Barbara Wood (Texas)
@Carol in Arkansas–oh no!! I am so sorry to hear about Roxi. I know you can actually feel the pain in your heart like a physical pain. So awful, and I am so sorry.
@Trina–thank you for the beautiful poem. Tears and hugs.
Going to Hovis now–maybe that will help a bit. Love to all.
sheena.davies(wales)
Dear Max.Hovis will always be my superhero no matter what colour he is!!Loved his cheeky pose.Poor mum I hope she holds on to both kidneys!
I’ve only seen “Gone with the Wind”once had forgotten some of the film,it was one of my mum’s favourites.I always preferred Olivia de Havilland than Vivien Leigh,Melanie was a sweet character.I read in the Daily Mail the other day Miss Leigh’s former home Tickeridge Mill in Uckfield East Sussex is for sale her ashes are scattered there,it’s a beautiful place and the asking price is 3.5 million!
The Dante should be a good race next week with True Story and Kingston Hill running.Michael Owen’s horse Brown Panther won the Ormonde today the race Moosie was 2nd in last year.Free the Moose.Sheena.
Max
Sheena. That Hovis certainly knows all. I think that I have seen Gone with the Wind hundreds of times. AMC sometimes shows it every night for a week. I may have the script of that movie and The Longest Day memorized. Same for Mrs. Miniver and Mildred Pierce. I like those old movies.
Saw that news about Vivien Leigh’s estate when I was reading about Frankie Detorri selling his place. Her home is really beautiful.
Oh how I well recall the Ormonde and the glory days of the Moose on the flat.
Free the Moose! Neigh x 9.
Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
OMG – Mrs. Miniver!!! My father and his sister (both imports from Scotland) would call each other up every time it was shown so as not to miss it! What a great memory. I’m sure the movie was a great boost to Kleenex sales.
Celeste/ Massachusetts
Just got my Zenyatta key chain. It came so promptly and it is exquisite!!! I love it.
Happy Mother’s Day to all the human moms and equine moms– that means you Zenyatta!!!
suew/Va
Yes, it’s gorgeous…beautifully made and worth every dollar I paid for it!
sheena.davies(wales)
Dear Max.My mum loved Mrs Miniver and Mildred Pierce too.I always liked Bette Davis old films and I often watch Ben-Hur Eastertime. The Great Escape is one film that is shown very often over here, they certainly don’t make em’ like they used to.
Weather forecast isn’t very good for the Badminton horse trials this weekend am surprised Hovis didn’t mention it,his friend William-fox-in-a-hole is taking part.Free the Moose.Sheena.
Max
Sheena. All great movies. Was reading that Al Kazeem is not infertile, just not fertile enough to have a stallion career with The Queen’s stud. When told of the situation, The Queen reportedly said that horses always have the last word. Her peeps were sorry to see him leave, but are glad that he is going to have a good home. Al is going back to his former trainer and will be racing again in his own good time. They intend to try him at stud privately at a later date. Al is very handsome.
sheena.davies(wales)
Dear Max.I read the Queen’s comments in the racing post. She was disappointed but understands things don’t always work out well with horses.John Deer is hoping to breed from him eventually. He is,indeed, a beautiful horse. Her Majesty was visiting my part of the world and visited an equine hospital in Narberth Teaforthree was there being treated for some injuries after the Grand National he tried to nibble her coat, her Majesty was in her elements.Free the Moose.Sheena.
Max
Sheena. She obviously has a special way with horses. Teaforthree is unusual. Some say that he has a Greta Garbo complex because he always likes to be alone. He eats his food alone in his stall and at night only when the other horses are asleep. That must have been something to see on that day when the Queen made a visit.

Carol, so very sorry about Roxie. Been there done that, never easy. Be glad you two shared your lives so lovingly. I just got a little teary thinking of our three wonderful Samoyeds from many years ago. Great dogs. Because of them, Rod and I still call each other “Mother” and “Father.” (Our terms of endearment, lol.) They were our “kids” for many years. Again, condolences, Carol.
Well, race fans, Cowtownmary did not have it today although he came in third, but that seemed like a struggle. This time he did not strut out in front, but was up there with the leaders for a short time, Then Trevor said, “Cowtownmary can find no more.” Poor Kanuck Kowboy got pulled up. Never like that. Not sure if Cowtown got claimed. Rod not home yet, will need to hear what he says. I THINK I saw him very early on headed toward the paddock–looked like his hat–Rod’s not Cowtown’s. On HRTV Michelle Yu kept correcting herself from referring to Cowtown as a “she”– then she would immediately say “he.”
Terry Crow, what fun watching the Derby in the barn!!! You are right, Los Al is not yet live during the day. But, I bet the Vessels Club upstairs was full. (We were there for the Belmont, in what was hoped to be Big Brown’s Belmont. Boy did the air go outa that room fast.)
Hi Zenyatta! –how is your Princess today? :-) And yes, even though it may indeed be a business decision not to breed you this year, it is a very sound one, so enjoy your time off my dear! Run, run on the beautiful grass!!
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear Anne:
Hope Cowtownmary came out of his race OK and glad he wasn’t claimed. Hoping Kanuck Kowboy’s OK too. Love and Hugs, JB
Terry Crow
Excitement was in the air in Art’s barn area during the Run For the Roses, for sure. The Vessels Club is a great place for a gathering of friends for the races. The Clubhouse used to be good when they had harness racing there, but no longer. The track is making an effort to spruce the place up, though. Sorry about CTM. Maybe next time. At least third place is enough to pay the feed bill. Always good to see a post from you.
Sally B. (Auntie cherishes Z and her young)
Zenyatta, I do not think they believe I am the same person who has loved you since I first saw you, joined the blog since your retirement as I had computer problems and a technician of windows vista changed things; told me to use now google chrome as my browser so my links have changed. I am here Z and I LOVE you, always!!

Hi Zenny…I received my keychain today and it was carefully wrapped in pink tissue with a teal and blue seal. It is gorgeous and worth every dollar I paid for it. The quality of everything available in the store is outstanding. Thanks, Team Z for offering these items to we fans who love to support our Queen in any way possible.

Unfortunately she was unplaced in the Goodwood, tried hard in the early stages, but was pulled back to the pack and finished midfield. All the best for the future Barbie, and we thank you for the enjoyment you’ve given us.

Belle Couture finishes last in Spotless at Flemington:
Unfortunately no fairytale for Nelly’s half sister: she was “nasty” according to her jockey in the barrier, tried to burrow under the gate, then knuckled at the start. She trailed the field to finish last, which has surprised her trainer, and she will get a full vet exam to see if there are some issues.
Max
KathyR. I read somewhere that Belle is never meek. Hope that she was just out of sorts and is not ill.
Have to mention how upsetting it was to learn of Jimmy’s death. That was very strange and very sad. Terrible loss for all concerned.
