Happy Friday!
New to the shop today is the limited edition Little Zen Pewter Figurine.
This “Little Zen” is an exquisitely detailed portrayal of the thoroughbred champion, Zenyatta sculpted by miniature specialist Maggie Bennett and painted by the acclaimed equine figurine painter Caroline Boydston. Their collaborative dancing depiction of the 2010 Horse of the Year is the culmination of countless hours of meticulous study and hand-work manifested in this unique and officially licensed fine art piece.
Zenyatta was renowned for her racing achievements as well as her physical conformation and the artists capture the essence of her muscular majesty in perfect miniature scale.
Each piece in the collection is individually hand-cast from the finest quality lead-free pewter. From the arch in her neck through her powerful withers to the playful extension of her front leg, the mighty mare is detailed in exact precision. Upon the completion of casting, each miniature is painstakingly painted to recreate Zenyatta’s rich bay color enhanced by her distinctive facial stripe and two white socks. Boydston’s unique dimensional shading technique completes the intricate process.
For the most discerning collector, we offer the first 25 pieces in the edition in an elegant 18K gold-plated finish. This Golden version represents the ultimate in Zenyatta memorabilia.
Each figurine comes with its own engraved felt-bottomed pedestal as well as a numbered certificate card hand-signed by trainer John Shirreffs and his wife, racing manager Dottie Ingordo-Shirreffs, also known as the “Voice of Zenyatta” for the beloved on-line Diary.
Measures 2.5″ wide x 2″ tall. Limited to 250 total pieces in all, and available on a first-come basis with earliest orders receiving the lowest numbered certificates.
Edit: This item is no longer available. January 2013.

2012 Cigar Mile Results: Stay Thirsty out-bobs Groupie Doll
By Matt Gardner on Nov 24, 3:33p
A thrilling finish in the Grade 1 Cigar Mile with Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Sprint winner, Groupie Doll, coming up a head-bob short to Stay Thirsty at the wire.
Stay Thirsty used a long, grinding run down the stretch to nail Groupie Doll at the wire to win the Grade 1 Cigar Mile at Aqueduct. Groupie Doll seemed to have the edge inside the final furlong but couldn’t win the head bob with Stay Thirsty in a heart-breaking defeat.

Hollywood Park notes: Smith will ride Game On Dude in Native Diver
By Steve Andersen DRF 11/23/2012 3:44PM
INGLEWOOD, Calif. – Hall of Fame jockey Mike Smith has gained the mount on Game On Dude for the $250,000 Native Diver Handicap at Betfair Hollywood Park on Dec. 1, trainer Bob Baffert said Friday.
Smith will be the third jockey in four races for Game On Dude, the leading older male in California this year. Baffert made the decision in the weeks after Game On Dude finished a disappointing seventh as the 6-5 favorite in the Breeders’ Cup Classic at Santa Anita on Nov. 3. The loss eliminated Game On Dude from consideration for Horse of the Year.
Baffert said he chose Smith hoping that Game On Dude can have a better start in the Native Diver, following trouble at the start of the BC Classic.
“The start is so important,” Baffert said. “He lost position in the first few jumps. Once he gets shuffled, he loses.”

Thirsty, I am glad you are going out on a HIGH note.
Sue Fredrick - Wisconsin- Elated
Congratulations to Stay Thirsty on this big win ( and it was a win head bob or not) to end his career. I am just as happy for him as I was for Shackleford, maybe even more, as he does not get the credit that the flamboyant Shack does. Congrats to papa Bernie and Grandpa Indy and to the Repole stables. I remember reading that a friend of Repole’s went ga ga over Uncle Mo and when he saw Thirsty said. ” sell him he’s just another brown horse.” Well if I were Mike I’d tell him where to “store it”!! This horse has always been the underdog, and I’m extremely happy every now and then the underdog prevails!!
Max
Sue. I’m elated too with this win. Critics are sadly everywhere to try to take down winners with negative comments. Thirsty is royally bred with 3 Triple Crown winners in his pedigree. I am very happy that he has shown that he can win or run well at all distances. This also may forecast a bright future for 12Z that another son of Bernardini has done this well.
Louise Castello
I agree Sue and Max, he did good and I’m proud of him!

Dear Sue and Max
You guys are just so right. I am so proud for Stay Thirsty. Even though he did beat Point given’s Son, Coil. Just teasing, He did great.

I am going to start watching in just a few minutes. Can’t wait.
AJ from CA
I was happy to see Stay Thirsty get the win today; especially being his last race but Groupie Doll gave it all she had and has nothing to be ashamed of.
Now I’m rooting for Orfevre on the other side of the world.
signofthetimes; President Texas Chapter of RN Club
Dear AJ,
Good point, the problem with Stay Thirsty’s
Win is that he is not a “miler”, it was a manipulation.
He is a router and has won some great races at
3. Did not really build credibility to his talents, just
Made money. TP as well as BB are well known for
Doing this sort of thing, but you would not see
Chad Brown, Graham Motion or John Sherriff’s race
Their horses in a race that was not the appropriate distance.
That is why “E” did not run at 6 furlongs, she has
No speed as John says.
It is all in racing, just like the jockey Oliver in Austraila.
Max
There was no problem with Stay Thirsty’s win. He won the race and nothing can change that not even comments like this. Congrats Thirsty.

Oatsee, the dam of Shackleford, heading to England for mating with Frankel
By Nicole Russo DRF 11/24/2012 2:08PM
Broodmare of the Year Oatsee, who saw two of her foals win graded stakes races in as many days over the holiday weekend, will be among the mares in unbeaten champion Frankel’s first book next spring.
The 15-year-old Unbridled mare is currently undergoing a 30-day quarantine and mandatory tests prior to her planned trip to England. The quarantine is taking place at Darby Dan Farm in Lexington, Ky., where she is boarded for owner Leonard Riggio’s My Meadowview Farm.
“We will only send her if everything is 100 percent right,” said bloodstock agent Lincoln Collins, who purchased the mare for My Meadowview in 2008. “But everything seems to be going fine so far.”
Should all go well, Oatsee, who is currently in foal to Bernardini, is expected to ship to England before the year’s end. She will produce her Bernardini foal in Europe before being bred to Frankel, and Collins said the mare “more than likely” will return to Kentucky to produce the resulting offspring.
Two-time reigning Cartier European Horse of the Year Frankel, who raced as a homebred for Juddmonte Farms, won the Group 1 Champion Stakes in October, his 10th career Group 1 score, to retire unbeaten in 14 starts. The 4-year-old Galileo colt will enter stud at Juddmonte’s Banstead Manor Stud in England for a fee of approximately $198,000 next year.
“I think he’s a very exceptional horse, obviously,” Collins said. “He’s one of the best horses that’s been seen probably ever. She’s produced stakes winners by five different stallions, so I think it probably makes sense to send her to the best young sire in the world.”

Sign:
I do not find the inuendo and subcurrent of the cartoon funny at all. AK is NOT talking about what he is getting for dinner. AK is clearly referring to himself BECOMING dinner because he lost his race.
As one of many, many people on this site who work constantly to stop horse slaughter, abuse, and neglect, I am offended by the cartoon, and upset with you for thinking it was okay to post it here. How funny would it be for one of us to post a cartoon using references to child abuse, or eating dogs, or clubbing baby seals?
Diana Stuart
Diana Stuart - Not Laughing
Addendum:
And if in fact AK were ever put into the slaughter pipeline for whatever reason, you can bet your last cent that those of us who do rescue work would be jumpiing to his rescue immediately. So yes, in a way, there are “rescue implications” in this cartoon whether you are able to see it or not.
DS

I have a hard time thinking anyone who likes horses would find that caption funny. A horse asking if he is going to be slaughtered so that part of him ends up on a dinner plate as a filet! Considering 1000’s of horses, including thoroughbreds who don’t win, end up at Canadian & Mexican slaughter houses, not so funny.
