Dear Max.Poor Kauto was as stubborn as a mule at Olympia and was hating every minute.Of course it had been a long day and he was on late about 10.30pm.My cousin has been texting me all night, said Valegro was awesome.People can be so utterly cruel they were laughing at Kauto. How quickly they forget what a champion he was.I feel so sad for him.Sheena.
Max
Kauto has gone stubborn as a mule? Kauto may have had a Moose moment. The Moose philosophy may be more widespread among the upper echelons of the horsey world than we first thought. Don’t despair. It’s only one time. Kauto’s not really used to that kind of thing, performing that late at night under lights too. Let them laugh because it is on them. The horse who neighs last neighs best. Neigh x 9!
sheena.davies(wales)
Dear Max.Yes,the Moose effect is definitely spreading! And look how famous he’s become.I felt it was a big mistake taking Kauto to Olympia with that crowd and under the lights.Back to the drawing board,I can’t help but feel sad for him though. He didn’t deserve to be laughed at!!Sheena.Hope Dan is enjoying his mints!
Max
They should be cheering for Kauto, no matter what happens. He’s a special, great horse and that kind of performance is difficult for a national hunt horse who has not been retired very long. No wonder why Hovis calls it stressage. I’m sure that Kauto will put his own horsey spin on the proceedings. Moose might weigh in as well. The yahoos often laugh at Moosie, but he’s above them and still a hero horse, getting more popular by the day. Use your freedom well, Moosester.
No one with any sense ever laughed at Big D, Ribot or Hastings. Too scared. Way too scared.
I will let you know if I hear from the Danimal

My heart goes out to the Farish family. Losing a child at any age is devastating to parents – it is just not supposed to happen.
sheena.davies(wales)
Dear Max Valegro and Charlotte Dujardin broke their own world record in the Grand Prix tonight.Kauto will live to fight another day as he did on the racecourse.I hope they continue with daytime competitions in future.Dan must be busy crunching his mints. That was very kind of you.Sheena.
Max
Something is amiss. The Racing Post headlined with Kauto being a star last night at Olympia. Nothing but praise for the horse. Maybe the peeps were laughing with delight at the sight of the great Champ?

Kauto’s a Champion and always will be. He was just channeling Moosie. Love and Hugs, JB, LM, PC, HT, Cap, Herc, Frank, Boo and all the Sweeties
Janet Newman
Kauto will always be a champion. This is a second career after all.
I don’t think we will see a dressage horse become a steeplechaser, so Kauto I say boo on those laughing at you.
Marshall (NC Broad)
Very good point, Janet!
They wouldn’t be laughing if the shoe (horseshoe) were on the other foot. It takes stronger stuff to be a steeplechaser!

December 17 Cherokee Devotional
One of our basic needs is to be accepted. We fear rejection and somehow get the idea that we are worth only what someone else says we are worth. We can’t allow their experiences to put limits on who we are. Looking for approval is a vicious circle. An outsider can be suspect-simply because he is an outsider. And every person has to realize that self-respect and self-acceptance precede what others may think. Confidence is knowing who we are, heart, mind, and spirit, and never allowing that confidence to cause us to put someone aside because he lacks standing. The Cherokee believes we should not a da de hu to di-insult the Great Spirit by criticizing one of His creation.
Many times we have been laughed at for our native way of dressing, but could anything we ever wore compare to the utter foolishness of the steel-ribbed corset?

Dear Kathy. We must never worry what other people think of us!It’s very mild over here today.I see it’s still raining in Booland ,loved their outfits,Great that over 400 dogs got adopted.Poor Mango got upset at the shelter wanted to bring all the doggies home with her so Judy is going to get some blankets and treats for them.Mango particularly loved one dog who is looking for his sissys. I loved Zoe’s video must be a busy time for her.Fubu is having trouble with FB and needs more votes.Poor Marty hasn’t got enuff yogis in Heaben!Maybe the Christmas chicken ate them!Did’nt Joey look handsome as Santa Claus and loved the puppy video. The BBC were at Kempton park for the arrival of Kauto’s statue but I can’t find anything on their websiteHave a great day.Love and hugs to you,Kisses for Holly,Nikko and Sugar.Sheena.
Kathy
Dear Sheena,
We’re wired to want everyone to like us, I think, but that’s not going to happen despite our best effort. Yes, they’re getting rain in the Bay area. We had some rain here this morning, too. Enjoy your mild weather today. That’s fabulous that so many dogs were adopted. Warms the heart! How kind of Judy to get some blankets and treats for the shelter there. Zoe sure has a busy schedule. Not sure how they keep up with Christmas fast approaching. Too bad Fubu is having FB trouble. Hopefully Marty’s yogi situation will get worked out. Joey was adorable as Santa Claus. I enjoyed that puppy video, too. We will be anxiously awaiting the unveiling of Kauto’s statue. Have a great Hump day. Love and hugs from me, kisses from Holly, Nikko and Sugar. Kathy.

Thanks so much Judy & Sandy. I’m glad you both enjoyed this one! She was such a special filly on-track and I’m just delighted that her broodmare career has been so positive. As for printing, please read my response to Barbara Wood below.

Good morning to my Z Family and to my Big Girl.
I, too, wanted to begin by sending my deepest condolences to the Farish family. It is so tragic to lose a loved one to this dreadful disease.
On another note, I wanted to let you know that the latest from THE VAULT is up and it’s about another “Great Lady” of the track:

Please read down to the Special Note at the very end, because I wrote it thinking of each one of you!

My Dear Abigail:
Another Masterpiece on another wonderful mare and her fantastic family. Thank you for all of the great information and joy that you give us with every story in the Vault. Love and Hugs, JB
Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
Another great article Abigail, and I second Barbara Wood’s suggestion further down that it would be wonderful to have these published. The multi-media content could be on a CD that accompanies the text. The fact that I knew two of her children just from reading the title marks a real advance in my very slow “learning curve.” Will Take Charge and Take Charge Brandi are certainly offspring to celebrate!

Judy + Sandy: Put my response above my post by accident. LOL

Dear Abigail,
Great reading — another super job!! Take Charge Lady is an outstanding girl, to be sure.
I just love learning about these marvelous horses, and your writing is excellent.

Kentucky Sire Lines for 2015
By Anne Peters The Blood-Horse December 12, 2014
With nearly all 2015 stud fees announced for Kentucky stallions, there are 175 stallions, give or take, standing in the Bluegrass State at a fee of $5,000 or more. The dominant sire lines are very evenly represented, with 53 from the Northern Dancer line edging out the 52 from the Mr. Prospector line, and a few other minority strains in support. That’s 30% for Northern Dancer and 29% for Mr. Prospector. This is a minor but surprising shift in favor of Northern Dancer over the all-American Mr. Prospector.
Read more on BloodHorse.com: http://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-racing/articles/89047/kentucky-sire-lines-for-2015#ixzz3MAyyKOS2
Interesting statistics & analysis on lines especially over last decade.
Bluegrass Girl
From article:
“We’ve lost a few significant male lines over the last decade, such as those of
Prince John, Damascus, and Buckpasser, to name a few. Fortunately, many of these survive on the dam’s side of the stallion pedigrees, so their influence is still strong in the gene pool.”
Max
Our Z does not have any Northern Dancer blood. She does however have Mr. Prospector in her pedigree. As to ND, his father, Nearctic, was Canadian and his mother, Natalma, was a US born daughter of the Gray Ghost, so that line is not European either.

Haha–rhymes with DOG
I’m a white Golden Retriever “girl” puppy
I was born October 18 in Tennessee
8 boys and 5 girls
Mommy picked me out when I was 2 weeks old
She and Daddy came and visited me every Sunday
They took me out of the pen and we played and played
I remember being cuddled and getting plenty of kisses
I gave kisses too and then December 1 came
I left my brothers and sisters and rode in my travel crate
It was bright blue and Daddy’s Dodge Diesel was noisy
I quickly fell asleep on my warm fleece pad
My story begins…

Merry Christmas to you and your “Zenny.” Nothing like a new pet to give an extra zip to you days and a little bit of trouble as they learn about going outside.

Thank you for posting. He just gets more handsome everyday and has the most wonderful long tail. Was it just the video or did the gray horse go by awfully close to him and his pony?

As many of you know we lost our beloved (and bossy) Eskie…Roxy….many months ago…the hubby and I decided that we would not get another dog and that our Scooter would be an “only dog”…
a major consideration was our age
well…that all changed 2 days ago…
one of the grooming places here in town makes regular trips to Hot Springs Animal Services….they try to take anyone home who is on “death row”…if possible…
Andy is about a year old or so….his parentage is a complete mystery…he is also the newest member of our family…Scooters nose is out of joint…just a little….and the cats don’t care about Andy and he doesn’t care about them…but he slept last night curled up in the small of my back….and I woke without a backache…go figure
….\
love to all
kisses for all the soft noses

Kauto Star switches from racing to dressage with Olympia trial VIDEO
BBC 17 December 2014
Record-breaking steeplechaser Kauto Star performs a demonstration routine at the Olympia show.
The former racehorse, who was retired in 2012 after winning the Cheltenham Gold Cup twice and the King George VI Chase a record five times, is likely to begin competing in dressage events in 2015, but has been ruled out of a future Olympic bid.
Rider Laura Collett explains to BBC Sport’s Nick Hope that the transition will be difficult but that she was pleased with his showing at Olympia.
http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/equestrian/30516647
FYI-video opens with a Longine ad of a jumper then goes to Kauto Star dressage.

Dear Max.I’m sure Kauto was thinking”why am I not back at Kempton”?He looked unhappy.I wonder if Hovis has a flat screen to watch the stressage fairies tonight!!I’d love to see them tackle 22 fences and 3 and a 1/4 miles at Cheltenham as Kauto did in his heyday.Kauto’s statue is beautiful, will be great to see in it’s full-glory.Valegro on next! Sheena.

@Abigail–thanks so much for the latest installment of The Vault. I wish I had these all bound in book form. For a while, I tried printing them out, but I was drowning in paper.
LOL. I would gladly buy a copy.
Abigail_1849
Thank you so much, Barbara. I’ve been exploring private online print places like blurb and may have a go at printing a few in a magazine format. The problem has always been the photos and my desire NOT to infringe copyright. But perhaps if I printed a magazine format myself and sold it privately to those most interested…..anyway, I am thinking on it!!!
