Zenyatta’s 2017 filly by Medaglia d’Oro is training and maturing under the tutelage of Jeanne Mayberry in Ocala, Florida. Scroll down for recent photos and videos from Mayberry Farm.
I agree, they should all start a year later. After their bones are matured. Between 3-4. She should be kept on the lighter side, although she looks perfect to me. Don’t want a lot of weight on those legs when so young. Carrying a human is stress enough. It looks like she’s being worked within her ability right now. I hope they continue to do that.
Oh my goodness! Be still my heart. She is gorgeous! She looks so much like Zenyatta at the yearling sale. Zellda looks like she gets “it” in that workout. Thank you Team Z for this wonderful update. Love to all of you. Darlene
So Beautiful! She is growing into such a pretty girl. Looks like both Zenyatta and Medaglia d’Oro. Medaglia d’Oro sure stamps his look on his foals. And she looks like she has Zenyatta’s temperment or something, something about her reminds me of Zenyatta. I am excited to see her race but hope they just take her along easy and not push her too much yet. Thank you for the up date on Zellda.
I see Medaglia d’Oro in her too, reminds me of Songbird. I also think he stamps his look on his foals, especially the fillies. So excited to finally see Zellda in action! Beautiful trot.
She is a true beauty. And I adore her mother. I can’t help but worry however, especially
with all the conversation now taking place about riding & training horses at this tender age, if she isn’t being brought along too fast for her tender legs and joints.
Dear Judy.Yes,Zellda is growing up now into a pretty young filly. The cameras got a bit much for Winx today and she lashed out just missed Chris and hit a fence but she is fine.Maya laid a 4th egg but our nights are very cold this week.Goodnight God bless you LM PC HT and all the sweeties.Love and hugs SheenaX
She’s Beautiful! Appears to take her lessons seriously…appears to have a good work ethic. Can’t wait to hear more about miss Zellda. Thank You for the update!
Thank you so much to Z’s blog team and April Mayberry for the pictures and videos of Zellda!!! She is growing up so quickly and looks wonderful! I love, love, love her just like I do her mom and also her sister, Songbird.
Dear Zenyatta, you must be so proud of your beautiful girl!
To the people concerned about riding a two-year old: I’m sure that she is being monitored very carefully and her training schedule is just what she needs to develop her skeletal system to gradually adapt to training and avoid injury. The Mayberrys know what they are doing with many years of experience training young horses. After all, they are the ones who started Zenyatta and look how long she raced & was sound until she retired.
I will be looking forward to more updates on Zellda as she continues on her journey to become a race horse. Maybe someday she will race at Saratoga where I can see her in person.
Thanks so much for these wonderful photos by April Mayberry and the two videos!
Zellda looks lovely, very much a blend of Z and MdO. Love watching her move, too.
Enjoy your schooling, beautiful girl. All of us are pulling for you and wishing you the very Best! ?
Thank you for your comment about training the young horses and the obvious expertise of the Mayberrys. Young horses are like teenagers, they are growing and are not like fat little puppies. They are not working her hard or pushing her. She is learning to carry a rider and learning the basics all while building a strong mental and physical structure.
We have all been anxious for news about this filly and now that the news is here, some feel the need to criticize the connections for this or that and some rather than being grateful ask for more. They are not obligated to share ANY news with us and anything that the connections decide to keep private should be respected. Enjoy what we have. Okay, I’m off the soapbox now.
Zellda looks great and it’s good to see her progressing.
Watching these videos… She’s my favorite of Zenyatta’s foals. This filly really looks fantastic. Conformation and movement. WOW! Thanks for the videos. I’ll be keeping my eye on her!
Tomorrow we say goodbye to the phenomenon that is Winx. She has lit up our lives for the past 4yrs.Have a wonderful life life as a broodmare and most of all stay safe. She will be missed more than words can say…..
Thank you and thank you to Team Z, Mayberry Farm and Ann for the wonderful videos of our little girl. She is beautiful. I wish she could feel all the love her “aunties” are sending her way. Since she is still at Mayberry, don’t think they are in any rush to run her. She was a late foal. Godspeed to her.
Sheena,
God bless and keep safe the amazing Winx. We will miss her but are so grateful for the years of fun she has given us.
Safe trip at Oaklawn for He Who Cannot Be Named. He can use some points for the Derby. Hope “our” Mike decides to ride him in the Big Race.
Any measurement comparisons to her mom “Zenyatta” at same age?? her demeanor looks intelligent and savy like her mom! I wanted to see this mating and so glad it produced a filly!! So glad she is in “no rush” barn. Her later years are so important without young “breakdown” Worry a little if she returns to Santa Anita till they figure out the problem!!!
Here’s the auction video of Z as a yearling in 2005 at the Keeneland September Sale. She was a year old in April of that year, so she was a year and a half here. About six months younger than Zellda is now. ZEL will be two, as you know, next month. Love and HUGS, JB
Wow, that sounds like a close call. Glad everyone escaped injury. I’m thinking that Winx will enjoy just being a horse and a Mama. She sure has earned it. Goodnight. Love and Hugs, JB
