Happy weekend!
Six years ago today Zenyatta won the 2009 Lady’s Secret Stakes. It would be her second of three victories in this Grade I race which is now known as the Zenyatta Stakes. Watch it again here and head over to the career section for more details.
Enjoy!

Judy, Thank You so much just wonderful. A Sweetheart indeed.
Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
Belatedly, thanks for the video JB. The guy doing it is a real hoot! The young man tending to Zenny during “the interview” once gave a group of us a ride from John’s barn back to the parking lot. It had been a much longer walk than many of us anticipated, and John graciously arranged some transport out (or was he trying to restore some order in the barn?? Ha ha!).
Judy Berube from Rhode Island
Dear Elizabeth, Ingrid, Peggy and Sandy:
You’re so welcome. Thought you would enjoy this video. Too cute. Love how Z was listening intently to the interviewer. What a sweet girl.
Sandy, how great that you met this young man. Too funny, but I think more that JS was being accommodating to Z’s loving fans. Lovely man. Love and Hugs, JB

The path to the woods is soft and silent underfoot. Wet leaves pad the ground beneath the trees and bright patches of green moss cover every rock. Many plants in sheltered places thrive even now.
This place is sweet solitude-but never silent. Twittering birds have moved in for the winter and the red and blue of the cardinals and bluejays color the darkening woods. Time hangs between autumn and winter in mellow breezes and a few bright yellow sunflowers. It is a pensive time, a time to reflect and let go and enjoy.
The old Indian still sits upon the earth instead of propping himself up and away from its life-giving forces.

Dear Sheena,
I’m so excited! “Our” little Zoe was the overall winner in the Arizona Foothills Cutest Dog contest. She is such a doll and has that “personality plus” factor. Wimbley is hoping to meet Pizza Rat and ask her on a date! All the other FB furbabies I’ve visited so far are doing well. Have a wonderful day. Love and hugs from me, kisses from Holly, Nikko and Sugar. Kathy XOXO

Dear Kathy.3.20am??That’s the middle of the night for me!Seasons of mists and mellow fruitfulness over here.Aidan is in a dilemma whether to run Gleneagles this Saturday ground will be good to soft.Lots of dew around but he is coming over for the BC classic.I am so excited for Zoe!!!She is such a sweetheart.Did’nt Wimbley looked cute holding a flower,. how could Pizza rat refuse.Remember to turtle-turtle.Have a great day Love and hugs to you,Kisses for Holly,Nikko and Sugar.Sheena.XOXO
Kathy
Dear Sheena,
Yes, we are early risers. Steve gets up about then and the furkids are ready to eat then. I hope it becomes clear to Aidan what he should do, what will be best for Gleneagles. I felt Zoe would win, how could she not??? She is just the epitome of “adorable.” Yes, Wimbley was really cute holding the flower. I just hope Pizza Rat is sophisticated enough for him! I don’t have to turtle-turtle, I’m off today (Columbus Day)! Yay!!! Love and hugs from me, kisses from Holly, Nikko and Sugar. Kathy XOXO

Great to see Balthazar King today looking fit and well.If you remember he had a horrendous fall at Aintree this year but will be back in training by early December.Tough horse!Hugs Sheena.

I’m a huge Dick Francis fan – the horses are tough customers but so are their riders!
I get scared just watching!
sheena.davies(wales)
Dear Sophia.Do you recall the incident with Devon Loch in the 1956 Grand National.Dick Francis was the jockey riding for Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother? Devon Loch was winning the race and did the splits just before the post.ESB went on to win.No one has really found out what happened to him some said it was cramp and some thought he tried to jump an imaginary fence.Still a mystery after all these years.Devon Loch was fine when he got up and Her Majesty said”that’s racing”!Hugs Sheena

Jockey Adam Beschizza’s run of good luck hit the buffers today when his mount Tanzina impeded Parshan Gurh who suffered a fatal injury and left Tom Queally bruised and shaken. He has been given a ban for careless riding.
Bad news for Donald McCain jnr his main owners Paul and Clare Rooney have removed their string of horses from his Cheshire stables. He has lost 50 horses a huge blow for him and the main jumps season about to start.Sheena

Judy, What a find. Thank You. I suspected he was in Ocala. Just didn’t know where.
Coolmore seems so close to the vest with what they let out. Can’t wait till he’s named.
Wonder how Jess’s Dream is doing down south in Ocala too. Hope he gets some good R&R. He’s sure in a beautiful place.

Donna Z
Dear Judy & everyone,
I’m pretty sure that I remember reading somewhere that Z’s little brother was in training at the Mayberrys’ for at least part of the same time as Ziconic was. That’s when I learned that his stable name was Monty.
I hope & pray that everything has gone well for him & that he is ok. We could probably fine out more about him if we knew his registered name. Don’t thoroughbreds need to be named & registered by age two?
Peggy (N) South Georgia
Thank You So much Team Z for this wonderful video of The Lady’s Secret. Zenyatta you are just Poetry in Motion. Love Ya.

Dear Donna and Peggy,
If you go next year ( to the All American), please let me know. We live an hour from there on the west side of the mountain (the race track is on the east side) . It would be so wonderful if as many of us in Zenyatta’s fan family could meet together for the race day. It’s a beautiful place. God’s blessings to you both.

Donna Z
Dear Z fans,
18 years ago today, John Denver’s experimental plane plunged into the Pacific Ocean… Another special person taken too soon…
John cared deeply for this earth and all of the people in it and he started programs around the world to help the less fortunate cultures.
Like us, John was a lover of horses & his horse, Tonto, was at his memorial service.
RIP, John.
Each one of us is a unique & special person. Thank you to Team Z for this blog & to all who post on it. We are all caring people united by our love for Zenyatta and the blog allows us to connect with others who share this love and the goodness and care that Zenyatta inspires. May God bless all of you.
Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
Thanks for this reminder Donna. I absolutely LOVED John Denver. Saw him live 4 or 5 times – such special memories. I was sure I would meet him one day. Can’t believe that it’s been 18 years since his tragic death.
Elizabeth in NM
Dear Donna,
Thank you for posting about John Denver. So sad. We love his music. I didn’t know about Tonto.
Also, love the ‘thank you’ to Team Z and what you said. It is so very true, and the way I think we all feel. This is a beautiful community in love with our beautiful Zenyatta and her sons. I pray for God’s many blessings for you, and also for Zenny, her colts, Team Z and everyone here in her fan family.
Pray for many of God’s blessings for everyone. with love, Elizabeth

He was one of my favorites too. RIP JD. Love and Hugs, JB

I still listen to John Denver’s music. I put his greatest hit CD compilations on in my car all the time. Here’s a fun fact: J.D. has two hit songs that are the official state songs of Colorado and West Virginia: “Rocky Mountain High” and “Country Roads” respectively!
shirleeinindy
Donna Z,
Thank you for the reminder of John Denver. He was one of my favorites and I still listen to my old CDs. Think Country Roads is my pick of his best!

Dear Judy B,
Thank you for posting the link to Monty’s picture. I wish his owners were as willing to keeping us informed about him as the Mosses are with Zenyatta & her boys and Z Princess. I know you will let us know if you find anything else out about Monty.
Dear Deb. E,
Thanks for the photo of Ziconic. I really like this pic. My biggest regret this summer was not being able to get to Saratoga to met him like I met John & big brother Coz last year. One of my goals for next summer is to meet both Ziconic & Mario when they are at ‘toga again.

Dear Donna Z:
You’re so welcome and I agree; wish we could find more info on Montey. Just reminds me once again how lucky we are that Mr. and Mrs. M share Z and her babies with us. Love and Hugs, JB

October 13 Cherokee Devotional
Luther, a Tsa la gi, explained his creative God by saying, “God take Himself and make the fish, God take Himself and make the tsi s du [rabbit]; He take Himself and make the wa ya [wolf]; He take Himself and make the squirrel, and He take Himself and make me. These things my brothers.”
But Luther, what do you do when you want to go squirrel hunting?
Merriment danced in his black eyes and he added, “I just say, squirrel-brother, God make you for me!”
I traveled thousands of miles along our winding trails, through unbroken solitudes of the wild forest, listening to the songs of the woodland birds.

Dear Kathy.Oh,dear the poor squirrels!I heard Walter Palmer won’t face charges for killing Cecil the lion.Seems his death might have been in vain after all.I can’t really say what I feel on this website.I was watching the late, late news one night last week and a gunstore had opened by a school!!Somewhere in Virginia. Is’nt that a wonderful idea!!!!!
Poor Wimbley it seems Pizza rat has about 87 children off 5 different guys. She isn’t keen on a stable relationship!Poor Mr Fibbs got soaked visiting Niagra Falls and yesterday wasn’t really a Monday well not for you in the US and Canada anyway. Can you imagine all those years we didn’t know you existed!
Mango had a great birthday and Katybug was there in her heart.Zoe was excited the cubs won she got home just in time.Wales are still in the Rugby Union championship but England are out.Loki the cat is on a diet his mum was worried about his breathing but he is fine but weighs nearly 17lbs!Tremendous honour for Kauto I well remember him winning the Betfred bonus in 2006/7.It was his first time over 3 miles and he loved the distance.Did you see the video of the dog Rusty who was kept chained up all his life and someone(Jared)didn’t pass by.Now he has a wonderful new home. It’s on the dodo.com.Have a wonderful day.Love and hugs to you,Kisses for Holly,Nikko and Sugar.SheenaXOXO
Kathy
Dear Sheena,
Poor squirrels, indeed! Just imagine how many you would have to eat…they are so TINY! That’s just not right that Walter Palmer won’t be facing charges. I hope all the enemies he made continue to boycott his dental practice. Truly nauseating. Poor Wimbley. Pizza Rat doesn’t sound like very good mate material. Fingers crossed he finds a better prospect! Wow…a little rat at Niagara Falls, it’s a wonder he didn’t get swept away. Getting wet was okay…he’ll dry off! Sure was nice being off yesterday. Today will feel like Monday, though! I’ll have to spend some time turtling! That’s nice that Mango had a good birthday. I know she felt Katybug’s presence. I’m always happy when Zoe’s teams win. Congratulations, Wales, in the Rugby Union! Loki’s weight is remarkable. By comparison, Holly weighs just 9 pounds! Kauto deserves all the honors. I’m sure you have so many wonderful memories. Didn’t see that dog, Rusty. Will look for him. Have a great Tuesday. Love and hugs from me, kisses from Holly, Nikko and Sugar. Kathy XOXO
