Zenyatta is a 2016 Arcadia Walk of Champions inductee, and we would like to invite two fans to join us at the celebration!
The Walk of Champions Gala Celebration will take place on Tuesday, May 24, 2016 in Arcadia, CA. We’re giving away an invitation for two to attend the event and be seated with members of Team Zenyatta. The winner will be selected in a random drawing on Tuesday, May 10. Travel and lodging is not included.
Enter to win using the form below. Please read the Terms & Conditions before entering. Enter by 5 pm PT Tuesday, May 10!
The Walk of Champions honors the historic records of outstanding horses, jockeys, trainers, owners and other key figures not just of Santa Anita fame, but encompassing the entire state of California. No hoofprints or handprints adorn downtown sidewalks in the manner of the Hollywood Walk of Fame, but the accomplishments of 60 “Cornerstone Champions” have instead been engraved on 24″ x 24″ informational bronze plaques.
More information about the Walk of Champions and the Gala Celebration can be found at http://arcadiachampions.org.

HAPPY MOTHER’S DAY, Zenny & Ann Moss!
Happy Mother’s Day to all here on this blog who are mothers to humans and/or other animal species. We all remember Mama, always.
Lots of Hugs and Love
Judy B from Rhode Island
Dear Marshall:
Joining you in wishing all Happy Mother’s Day, both of fur babies and human ones. Also remembering my Mom and all Moms that have passed. Love and Hugs, JB
Marilu Villanueva
Happy Mother’s Day, Zenyatta.
You have been a wonderful and caring MOM.
Sending Love and Hugs to a very Special Mare who helped me when I was going through rough times.
Faithful Zenyatta Supporter
Hope many of you watched Beholder in the Adoration Stakes just now. She was compared to Zenny for having a great mind as a racehorse. Phrases like aging like fine wine also used to describe this big strong mare after the race. The owners plan is to put her in the BC Classic again hopefully against Nyquist. When asked about California Chrome’s influence, the owner said “who”? No specific plans for retirement either. So glad.
Sophia Gates
Yes! I made a point of watching it. She’s terrific isn’t she!
I hope she runs in the Classic, though I think CC could give her a real challenge – he’s become a magnificent stallion.
Love them:)
Faithful Zenyatta Supporter
Sophia,
Agree that CC would be a real challenge and love them both. Hmm, imagine what this mating could produce. Oh well, another time.
Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
Beholder was awesome as always! What a treat to see her back in effortless winning form! ❤️
Judy B from Rhode Island
Dear Sandy:
Congrats to Beholder. Love her. Love and Hugs, JB
shirleeinindy
So happy that Beholder is back and running great. BC Classic could be very interesting especially if Songbird is healthy and goes in the Classic rather than Fillies and Mares.
Judy B from Rhode Island
Dear Shirlee:
That would be a Doozy of a BCC; Beholder, Songbird AND Nyquist. Wow! Love and Hugs, JB
Faithful Zenyatta Supporter
Happy Mother’s Day Zenny! Hoping for good news about being in foal.
Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
Wow! Lots of catching up to do here. First, what a super nice thing for Team Z to do. It would be such an honor to be with them for this celebration. Good luck to everyone!
Second, Happy Mother’s Day to our dear Zenny, her human Mom (Ann Moss), to all of the wonderful broodmares who have produced the horses we love, and to all of my Zenny friends who have two-legged or four-legged kids. Alas, I am without either at the moment.
Then, a big WOOO HOOO to Nyquist. What a run yesterday! I saw him win the BC Juvenile at Keeneland and have been firmly in his camp ever since. And to think he is the first undefeated horse since the great Seattle Slew to win the Derby. Hope there are great things ahead for him in the remaining triple crown races and beyond. I join everyone in a thankful prayer that they all came home OK.
Last but not least, Happy Birthday to Jerry Moss and Donna Z. Hope you’re having a great day!

What is it with these mature jockeys and the fillies and mares? Mike and Gary seem to have a great relationship with them. Confidence perhaps?
Marshall (NC Broad)
I don’t know, Shirlee, but it is certainly a great connection that they have!

May 9 Cherokee Devotional
It seems early for the whippoorwill to be singing, but it doesn’t ask anyone, it just sings when it wants to. Its plaintive song fills the woods in late evening and then the owl hoots-a nice duet. Twilight brings a multitude of sounds and songs and scents. The screech owl can scare the daylights out of a person or it can ripple notes across the woods so sweet it almost hurts to listen.
Primitive and breathtaking, life moves from one place to another, always keeping the soul and the body connected. Life asks if what you are striving for is worth the effort: does it allow you to reach back and touch creation and lean forward and see tomorrow? If someone asks what should they do, ask if they are standing on holy ground. Can they see with the human spirit? Can they love?
Start listening to the silence that is so full of wisdom. Listen to the beauty of bird songs. Drop the brassy facade and develop the person you really are. That is a person worth knowing.
It was the wind that gave them life.

Coz if you feel lil not well with legs, make layoff two weeks, blue grass, dandelions, plantain, lil clover, may be hazel bushes are near, Coz i think you slowly drink clean not cold water, have bath, say to Zi too, Zi 6 furlong like race, may be make layoff two weeks too, i remember your legs are more thin than legs of Coz and mates, you always need long free space in front of your nose, because of you need to decrease speed slowly, neck and back are tired

Dear Kathy.I am completely lost in your devotional today, the sounds, the words are just magical.Gosh, the UK was the hottest country in Europe yesterday.promises rain tonight though!Lovely photo of Glesni fast asleep on the nest this morning she will need plenty of rest before the “bobs” arrive.Mr Fibbs has been rescued!Waiting patiently with his suitcase and he was well cared for by the squirrels. They habbed a lot of issues. Now they will bote for him so Donald and Hillary may as well gib up and go home!
Frankel’s first “baby” runs at Newbury on Friday Frankie is riding trained by John Gosden no one is very keen on his name though Cunco!!!All the furbabies in the US seem to have had a good mother’s day.The 2 donnas helped Mango and the sissys get a gift for Judy and Nay.Ray looked lovely after being groomed. No Zoe yet this morning Dolly was in the garden weeding. It was such a joy to watch Michael Jung and Sam at Badminton yesterday. Also Gemma Tattersall got 3rd on an ex-racer Arctic Soul and Ben Hobday was back after being diagnosed with Non-Hodgkins lymphoma last year he was in tears.Remember to turtle too warm for socks today!Love and hugs to you, kisses for Angel Holly.Nikko and Sugar.SheenaXOXO

Dear Marshall.Mandy has been given a bionic leg and is resting after her operation.I am not sure how you are with scenes of surgery but the video is up.It’s fascinating. Now she will able to run one day!Love and hugs Sheena
Marshall (NC Broad)
Dear Sheena,
Yes, it is very fascinating and so amazing what they can do these days. I watched the video — scenes of surgery do not bother me. I am still hoping and praying that Mandy’s recovery and rehabilitation will proceed smoothly with no complications. I do hope she can live a normal life soon with someone who loves her. A bionic leg, WOW!!
Hugs and Love
Kathy
Dear Sheena,
Yes, deep and such meaningful words! Glad you had some warmth. Your weather is certainly changeable! Bless Glesni. As you say, she will need her strength. Good news on the Fibbs front. Loved the rescue operation pics. It was nice of the squirrels to provide a sock! Fingers crossed for Cuncol. I have to agree that’s not the best name they could have picked! My 2 furbabies had a good Mother’s Day. Was thinking a lot about Angel Holly. She was the closest to me, gave the best kisses. Sugar doesn’t know how, can you believe that??? She does like to be cuddled, at least. I’m sure Judy and Nay loved their gifts. Yes, Ray is a gorgeous dog. They did a really good job on him. I’m glad Dolly could be out in the garden. Glad you enjoyed badminton yesterday. Glad for Gemma and Ben, thumbs up, Arctic Soul! I will be turtling today. Love and hugs from me, kisses from Angel Holly, Nikko and Sugar. Kathy XOXO

Zenny polar ices melted, weather became more near to desert, horses needed time to feel themselves well in changed conditions, this have influence on mares and crashes on course :-( , i showed 2016 ky oaks and photo of Rachel’s Valentina and Promise Me Silver to War Front, Honor Code, Liam’s Map and mates on my fb, for they will not be sad, Zenny google give beauty photos of him, he is kind, he like quietly to stay on air in green wood, white hind legs and right foreleg, he wear briddle like Zi briddle, Zenny in plane or in van better to travel with mate, see photos Pharoah and Dortmund in van to Churchill Downs, Pharoah and Smokey eat green light hay in air horse one :-) , may be Vixana

I was visiting friends and away from my computer for the Derby! My heart dropped to my stomach, my hands to cover my eyes when ____ Threat (first part of his name escapes me) fell!!
I was so relieved that all horses as far as I know are safe from injury as well as jockeys.
Congratulations to Nyquist!!! Exaggerator sure came close.
It has been many years since there was back to back TC winners. I thought it was with Secretariat and Seattle Slew and perhaps just one other back to back TC winners. Any one remember?
Nyquist appears to be able to go the distance and keep a good pace.
hugs, Sally B
HAPPY BELATED MOTHERS DAY Zenyatta!!!! You are a wonderful momma.
love you with kisses!!!
Auntie Sally B
Marshall (NC Broad)
Dear Sally,
Hope your foot gets better soon! Bless you.
The back-to-back TC wins went to Seattle Slew (1977) and Affirmed (1978).
Magnificent Secretariat won in 1973! Don’t know if there was another decade when successive wins occurred.
Hugs and Love
Marshall (NC Broad)
Sally B.,
I just checked, and there are no other back-to-back TC wins. Sir Barton (1919), there were three winners in the 30s and four in the 40s, but each of those was separated by 2-3 years. So the 1977 and 1978 TC wins are unique so far.
Take care of that foot!
Hugs and Love
Sally Blank (cherishes Z and her foals)
Marshall, Thank you for checking. The odds of this happening again are so great, not to mention just one horse winning the TC!
I am so happy for AP, but in my heart I wanted it to happen for CC the year before!! hugs, Sally B
Sally Blank (cherishes Z and her foals)
Hi all; My left part of my foot is recovering from Jo, one of the horse at the sanctuary, who accidently stepped on my foot!!! OMG, pain!! It was stupid of me to drop back to the barn after a CVHS meeting and offer a bit of extra hay to Jo keeping my tennis shoes on. It is still a little swollen to the area and I wonder if I broke my little toe. The one time I did not wear my work boots ….. geez.
We have lost a couple more volunteers due to change of work, so I sure can not take a break from my times scheduled.
As I have always said “For the love of horses” but really? ha ha
hugs to all,
Sally B
Sophia Gates
Oh – I’ve been stepped on in tennis shoes! It is terrible! My dad picked me up and dumped me in the water trough?
Sophia Gates
To ease the pain, not to drown me???
I am not 100 percent sure this was an accident – big feisty TW mare not pleased with horse-besotted little girl trying to braid her tail.
Ouch!
Marshall (NC Broad)
Sophia,
LOL!! ?

Dear Sophia:
Too funny. Love and Hugs, JB
Sally Blank (cherishes Z and her foals)
Sophia, Thanks, misery likes company. ha ha But that is probably what I should have done immediately; dangled my leg in there nice cold water in the trough.
So nothing to the bones were broken I hope?
hugs, Sally B
Judy B from Rhode Island
My Dear Sally:
Ouch, hope you’re feeling better soon. Love and Hugs, JB
Sophia Gates
Hah. Fortunately it wasn’t broken but OUCH?
Now it’s funny!
Anyway cold water really helped – not annoying large mare would have been even better?
Marshall (NC Broad)
Sophia,
Glad no bones were broken.
You crack me up, though!! ?
Guess those braids were not very appreciated by your mare.

Here’s hoping that Zenyatta is in foal again, and that her foal will be a filly, it would be nice to have a daughter would inherit her mothers speed, and stamina, and end up being a fine brood mare just like her mother, and leave a legacy like her mother, who has two colts who carry her blood in their veins. My love to allay Team Zenyatta.

Competition is a subtle thing. It makes people feel smaller than they really are and it sets up barriers between those who could be true friends. As long as we compete, we cannot be true to anyone-even ourselves. Does anyone care how much money you have or how often you polish your silver? Does anyone want to know how many important people you know? What they really want to know is whether or not you can be trusted-not with deep secrets but with the homeliest of things that are the foundation for friendship.
Don’t try to compete-except with yourself. Improve something every day, though it may not show. Be kind and gentle with those who do not seem to need it, because they do. Everyone does.
In order to honor Him I must honor His works in nature.

Dear Kathy.I don’t polish my silver very often I am too old now to care!!I had hoped for some sunshine on my birthday but it’s dull and muggy. We had torrential rain last night and some thunder. Did you see the photo I posted of Hovis after his bath? Our boy was NOT happy.I also remember my grandmother today for we shared a birthday. Many memories for me.
Sad news about Little Cakees mum but she is free of pain now and at peace.Little Cakees will miss her and I hope her future is secure.Poor Fubu had another seizure last week I think Kimberly nearly lost him again but he’s much better now and got her a lovely plant for mother’s day.Kimberly is slowing improving too.Maybe the warmer weather.Mr Fibbs habbed a baff yesterday not good for a Monday really!.
Felix has nearly 60,000 friends now and Bob over 455,000.Sad news about 2008 GN winner Comply or Die who died over the weekend. He looked wonderful at Aintree parading.Frankel’s open days were all sold out in a couple of hours!Hoping for more in September.Have a great day.Love and hugs to you,Kisses for Angel Holly,Nikko and Sugar.SheenaXOXO

Dear Sheena,
Happy Birthday, Sheena! Happy Birthday, grandma in heaven! My goodness, you two must have had a great time celebrating together through the years. Yes, I saw Hovis’ picture. You’re right, he looks VERY put out! I was so sad to see that Little Cakees’ mom lost her battle. It’s a wonderful relief for the person who passed, but oh so painful for the loved ones left behind. I hope Little Cakees’ future is secure, too! She is an adorable little dog. It’s incredible how Fubu keeps coming back after everything that’s happened to him. I’m not sure if I would have made him go through all of this had it been left up to me. Hopefully Kimberly will feel a lot better soon. As you say, maybe the warmer weather will help. Poor Fibbs had to hab a baff. His tail got dirty. lol Congratulations to Felix and Bob for their numbers. Amazing! RIP Comply or Die. I’m sure the chance to see Frankel left everyone scurrying! Fingers crossed for September. Have a wonderful day. Eat some cake! Love and hugs from me, kisses from Angel Holly, Nikko and Sugar. Kathy XOXOXOXOXOXOX

RIP beautiful Comply or Die. Gone too soon as have many others.
Thankfully, it apparently was sudden, and he was at home in his paddock where he was loved. In the company of angels now, run free and happy.
