SANTA ANITA TO HOST ZENYATTA BABY SHOWER;
‘IT’S A BOY’ POSTER FREE TO ALL THIS SATURDAY,
‘TEAM ZENYATTA’ AVAILABLE FOR AUTOGRAPH SESSION
Santa Anita Park will proudly host an equine baby shower in honor of the great Zenyatta’s newly arrived foal this Saturday, March 17. All on-track attendees will receive one “It’s a Boy” poster, free with their paid admission and will have an opportunity to meet “Team Zenyatta” in an autograph session prior to the races.
“The entire racing world is buzzing about Zenyatta’s new colt, who was born in Kentucky last Thursday night (March 8),” said Chris Quinn, Santa Anita’s Vice President of Sales and Marketing. “Zenyatta is easily the most popular horse of the past 25 to 30 years and people are clamoring to see and learn more about her new baby.
“We want to thank Jerry and Ann Moss and the entire Zenyatta team for helping us to make this happen and we look forward to following the progress of Zenyatta’s first foal in the weeks and months ahead. I think all of us here at Santa Anita are hopeful that someday, we’ll get to see this precious horse race here in Southern California.”
“The Queen’s Dance,” a life-size painting of Zenyatta on post parade, will also be on display at Santa Anita on Saturday. This magnificent work of art, first unveiled during Breeders’ Cup week this past November at Churchill Downs, was created by Jaime Corum (whose posters and original artwork will be available at the gift shop this weekend).
Corum, along with members of the Zenyatta team, will be on hand Saturday and will participate in the Zenyatta autograph session which will take place from 11:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in Santa Anita’s East Paddock Gardens area.
Several charities, including CANTER of California Old Friends, Race for Education and EAGALA, which have been involved with Zenyatta throughout her legendary racing and now maternal career, will be represented at Saturday’s event.
First post time on Saturday is 12:30 p.m., with the Grade I Santa Margarita Stakes (won by Zenyatta in 2010) and the Irish Obrien Stakes headlining a festive St. Patrick’s Day card.
Be sure to check back soon for the new “It’s a Boy” photo gallery posted in the “photos” section of zenyatta.com

Ashton – I wasn’t sure where to post so that you would see it given all of the changes in the diary/website. The video was a wonderful tribute to both Zenyatta and your mother. The music was just stunning along with the terrific images. You did a great job, and I know it will be viewed over and over and over. Hugs to you.

Dearest Ashton,
The video is exquisite, as is everything Kari touched–including you. Thank you for including the scenes of Z, TT, and Kari her dear self at the end–the legend of Zenyatta AND KARI indeed continues…
Your dear mom is missed so much by all of us–the tears don’t stop, but love lives forever.
Special blessings to you today, in honor of your own Irish heritage.
Ashton
Dear Trina, your beautiful words really, really touched my heart. Your poems are wonderful.
Thank you very much. Blessings to you.

I can’t wait til we see some more videos of baby Z. I love to see the videos of the moms and foals frollicking in the paddock together. Priceless!!!

Just sent a donation to Marlene Dodge for the Nevada 7 rescue – she is certainly a champion for the horses and like the Equi-Army-NDO blog says she has become a folk hero. She is truly MY HERO. As of this morning – she still needs some help – please everyone – thru the magic and strength of Zenny Nation . . . lets help Marlene help these dear horses. March 19th is coming fast.
Zenny and Zenbabe you two are beyond belief beautiful! Happy Saturday and let us know about Tasty.

Congratulations to Informed Decision on the birth of her colt. The sire is Street Cry. He’s another one to keep an eye on – with the combination of speed and stamina I’m sure he’ll be competing with Zenyatta’s and Rachel’s foal come Derby prep time and beyond: http://www.bloodhorse.com/horse-racing/articles/68125/champion-informed-decision-delivers-colt

Doreen, I hate to wish time of my life away but I cant wait for the 2015 racing campaign. Can you just imagine how exciting it is going to be with all these foals we are all watching?

Dear Doreen, Darlene and Z Fans:
Always like to keep track of Street Cry’s babies. Darlene, can’t wait to see Z’s colt as a two and three year old. He should be a knockout. Don’t know if you’ve seen this photo of one of Street Cry’s two year old’s this year. Unfortunately, he was purchases at Barrett’s auction 3/5/12 by Japanese connections, so it will be hard to keep track of him. Who does he remind you of? Also, this photo gives us some idea of what the little guy could like. Hugs, JB

Dear Judy B you see why I worry so much, the Japanese they are buying so many of ours horses that’s scary, he looks so much like our adorable Zenyatta, thank you for the link, hugs Ingrid.
judy berube from Rhode Island
Dear Ingrid:
I feel exactly the same as you do. I wish all the babies could stay in the States too, but the Japanese are really into racing now and they’re spending lots of money at the Sales. I think after what happened to Ferdinand, there are clauses in most of the sales agreements that if for any reason the horse is no longer wanted, he/she will be returned to the breeder. Something like that.
I always worry when Bernardini is sent to Austraila or wherever for breeding, but that is a part of the industry. Love and Hugs, JB

Judy – I had to do a double-take. He definitely looks like our Zenny, only a smaller version.

@All Good Morning l. I just checked the Lanes End Foal list and still no Tasty baby yet. @Team Lanes End and @ Team Zenyatta, thank you so much for letting us continue our community here. I so love all these people and of course every snippet of news about Zenyatta and 12Zenyatta.

@All An observation I’ve made is Lane’s End does not update the foal list over the weekend. They get it caught up on Monday mornings.
Cigar alert: I saw him along the front fence about an hour and a half ago, but he’s moved on since then. Grass must be greener somewhere else in his paddock. No blanket this morning.

Any update regarding Tasty?

No word yet. Anxiously pacing for Tasty.

Judy. Z is so considerate that she probably knew that Dottie needed a little rest so that she could focus on March Madness. And the Mosses flew in for the event. Z did not disappoint. She never fails.
I guess that Tasty’s foal is on his or her own timetable. Pacing for Tasty to deliver.

Vicki B. near Hollywood Park
Aauugh! You got that, Judy! We would be going berserkers, and bonkers, and whatever else — bald from pulling our hair, and lame from wearing out shoes, nerves, and carpets. The fever pitch reached ‘too much’, and Zenyatta (wiser than she knows) & 12-Z, with “mom & dad” at hand, relieved our distress and worry, before we could totally choke. With Tasty, not being so emotionally invested, I merely am concerned about her, but know maiden mares, especially, can just normally take more time — and there may be NO problem, at all.
Max
Vicki B. I hope that you are right. It is not that long, but it just seems long. It would be great to see this little foal appear. It looks like this delay will mean the introduction of new pals for Z. She and Tasty seemed so close.

Dear Vicki B.:
I thinking positive thoughts and being a Maiden Mare, what you say is so true. Hugs, JB

Judy. You said it. I was giving everyone whom I know hourly updates before Z foaled. Now I am doing the same for Tasty. All emails mention that there is no foal yet. Fortunately, my friends love horses too.

@ASHTON– I am such a nitwit! I’m so sorry I misspelled your name! It’s so embarrassing to be such a horrible typist! I knew I should have taken typing instead of chemistry!
Vicki B. near Hollywood Park
LoL, Barbara, about “chemistry”, which I also took! Typos are not so bad, you know. I didn’t even notice you had misspelled her name above (altho, true, she might!). Typos are so common, I just read right over them. And you get your messages across just fine, which is what matters. FYI, I took “typing” in summer school, no other way to fit it in.

Barbara, LOL! I did not notice. Thank you for saying such sweet things about her.

L.A. Times today: This is a nice article. “Horses hold a special place”: http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/news/tv/la-et-0317-critics-notebook-horses-20120317,0,4386182.story
And comparing ‘Luck’ to ‘War Horse’. The 3rd horse death may have been accidental, and not due to negligence, but ‘War Horse’, with over 100 horses used, “completed production without an animal injury.” Spielberg said the AHA representative had “full power to pull the plug if she ever felt any of the horses were not up to the challenges or if she thought they would be injured in any way.” ‘Luck’ raises stakes on animals’ use: http://www.latimes.com/entertainment/news/tv/la-et-0317-horse-safety-20120317,0,6277624,full.story

Dear Judy B,
So true, I think PETA requested it after the first
Two deaths.
M. Kern
Thanks for the articles. Horses made significant contributions to the development of this country. I know it’s disturbing that 3 horses died during the production of Luck. But I find it more upsetting that hundreds of horses will be killed once we re-open slaughter houses here in U.S. I wonder how many people were aware that on November 2011, the ban on the slaughter of horses for meat was lifted.
judy berube from Rhode Island
Dear M Kern:
You are so right. There should be as much, if not more, outrage over the number of horses transported to slaughter in Canada and Mexico and now they want to reopen slaughter houses here in the U.S. So sad. Hugs, JB
Sierra is sick in bed...Oh well time to write!
Okay for all to read here is the next part of my story. I think this is where I left off last but I am not sure..
“Yay!” Prince bounced up and down looking up at Z “What is the first step Dottie? What do we do first?”
“Well 12-Z we start by reading comments. Then we write the next diary.”
Z , Prince, and Dottie started to read comments laughing as they read all of the Aunties crazy antics. Then as the wrote the next diary page making sure to highlight all about how cute Prince was right at that moment.
Once they were done Zenny spotted Matt walking towards them so she nickered a hello and started to the gate. But before she got there she heard for the first time a tiny little shrill nicker she turned around to see Prince with his head held high in the air let out another nicker. Quickly he ran over to his mom.
“Mommy I just nickered! Did you hear me? It was so much fun!” Quickly he let out another nicker and started to run around the paddock. Z following behind as Prince trumpeted his joy to the world. Zenny gently cantered behind with pride. Once Prince was all tuckered out he collapsed to the ground with one mighty heap.
“Momma I’m tired I just want to sleep in the sun.” Prince said yawing at the same time.
“I know dear but it is time to go in and get fed. Don’t you want to go into the nice comfy stall in the foaling barn? Prince darling?” By that time prince was fast asleep so Z just started to graze beside him watching over him.
Back at the fence Dottie and Matt were talking.
“Aren’t those two so funny?” Matt said with a chuckle in his voice
“12-Z definitely is just like his momma when it comes to naps just look at him out in the sun.”
“Well I hate to wake him up but we do need to get these two inside because I have another mare and foal who are supposed to go out in this paddock. If you want to help bring them in Dottie you can.”
“I would love to do that. What do I have to do?”
“Well 12-Z will follow Zenny so you just need to hold onto his lead rope and keep him stable as he is walking. No need to lead him as he will follow Zenny.”
“Okay, I can do that. Let’s go get them.”
I think I will soon be able to set up something where I will have all of the stories in one place. But if anybody would like to post them on your blog or something it is fine just make sure to credit me and let me know that you posted it.

I have a QUESTION that I bet some of the CA Dumplings could answer. I’ve been re-watching some of my favorite Zenyatta videos, and there is a person right at the fence waving a “Zenyatta Girl Power” sign. She has on a dark outfit and has short red hair. Is that one of us? She has such a winning smile and clearly loves Z. If she’s not one of us, I hope someone tells her we meet here! Thanks!
Jan S. / Houston
Barbara, I think it is one of us, but I don’t remember who!

It might be Dustin Hoffman with a wig. Or Victor Escalante or Gary Stephens on a BAD DAY!

Vicki B. near Hollywood Park
No, she is NOT Dustin in a wig! I don’t know who she is, but she is a wonderfully exuberant fan, I think I might recognize her, if I ever see her, for real. Waving that sign, she is in many Zenyatta videos.

Dear Judy,
Happy St. Patricks Day to you as well.
I was thinking, maybe if Tasty took a good roll in the mud like Zenny did….. Well, maybe it would get some action going. I agree with your earlier comment that she’s got to be tired.
I think this new format is working pretty well, but maybe some people are hesitant or resisting it. I do think if there aren’t pretty regular updates, a long comment section could bog things down again. I guess it will be learn as we go.
judy berube from Rhode Island
Dear Marty:
Yes, I guess we’ll see how things go. Must say TT looks pretty wonderful in the new photo. I think a roll in the mud would be a good idea. Hugs, JB
Vicki B. near Hollywood Park
You’re right, Marty & Judy. About Tasty’s mud-bath advice, a la Zenyatta.
And also about the overflow of comments that could easily develop. Considering that Diary-weekends were 3 days long, it seems like every 4-5 days might be good, but a new page once a week, with just a photo at the top, might work too, and not grow too long. After all, the one Diary that got “too big”, was the final one, with everyone grieving.

Just got home from S.A. and I got nine posters only two of them are signed. How fun it was to stand in line waiting to get your posters signed, everyone around you were talking about Zenyatta. It was AWESOME!!! When it was my turn to have my two posters signed, I did not get a chance to Thank Dottie for the wonderful job she has done day in and day out on the web site, she was speaking with someone else that was standing behind her, I don’t even know if she signed my posters. But I did THANK John and Mike.
Thank You Lane’s End for the pics and updates.
PS…I was not the only one that cried their eyes out when I found out the web site would be on longer. Every person that I spoke with had the same reaction. Also just walking around S.A. so many people I heard talking about every third person that I passed Zenyatta’s name was in that conversation. SO A BIG THANK YOU TO LANE’S END FOR KEEPING US POSTED ON THE GIRL AND KEEP THE PIC’S COMING!!!
