SANTA ANITA TO HOST ZENYATTA BABY SHOWER;
‘IT’S A BOY’ POSTER FREE TO ALL THIS SATURDAY,
‘TEAM ZENYATTA’ AVAILABLE FOR AUTOGRAPH SESSION
Santa Anita Park will proudly host an equine baby shower in honor of the great Zenyatta’s newly arrived foal this Saturday, March 17. All on-track attendees will receive one “It’s a Boy” poster, free with their paid admission and will have an opportunity to meet “Team Zenyatta” in an autograph session prior to the races.
“The entire racing world is buzzing about Zenyatta’s new colt, who was born in Kentucky last Thursday night (March 8),” said Chris Quinn, Santa Anita’s Vice President of Sales and Marketing. “Zenyatta is easily the most popular horse of the past 25 to 30 years and people are clamoring to see and learn more about her new baby.
“We want to thank Jerry and Ann Moss and the entire Zenyatta team for helping us to make this happen and we look forward to following the progress of Zenyatta’s first foal in the weeks and months ahead. I think all of us here at Santa Anita are hopeful that someday, we’ll get to see this precious horse race here in Southern California.”
“The Queen’s Dance,” a life-size painting of Zenyatta on post parade, will also be on display at Santa Anita on Saturday. This magnificent work of art, first unveiled during Breeders’ Cup week this past November at Churchill Downs, was created by Jaime Corum (whose posters and original artwork will be available at the gift shop this weekend).
Corum, along with members of the Zenyatta team, will be on hand Saturday and will participate in the Zenyatta autograph session which will take place from 11:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in Santa Anita’s East Paddock Gardens area.
Several charities, including CANTER of California Old Friends, Race for Education and EAGALA, which have been involved with Zenyatta throughout her legendary racing and now maternal career, will be represented at Saturday’s event.
First post time on Saturday is 12:30 p.m., with the Grade I Santa Margarita Stakes (won by Zenyatta in 2010) and the Irish Obrien Stakes headlining a festive St. Patrick’s Day card.
Be sure to check back soon for the new “It’s a Boy” photo gallery posted in the “photos” section of zenyatta.com

I know I will watch it over and over, and thank you for allowing us to do so. I know your mother is so filled with pride in all you do.
@Sierra – enjoying your poems!

Thank you so much for your support of Marlene Dodge and the rescue of the Nevada 7. Let’s hope others join us and we can help her reach the goal of rescuing these poor souls standing in the rain in northern Nevada. It is pouring here in Northern California today! http://www.valleyviewranchequinerescue.webs.com
I also want to update you ALL on Little Cloud. Remember him? We rescued his mom from the feed lot in memory of Cloud Man. This was right at the time when Cloud Man had to be euthanized due to injury and we were all so sad. Little Cloud is due to be born in May. Marlene telle me his mother is quite special and someone has his/her eye on this mare already for adoption. I’m so glad we helped make that happen.
Hopefully we can do it again by next Monday!
@Sierra — your story is precious. You are creating a dialogue for his to imagine how Zenyatta and her Little Prince talk to eachother in horse-ese. I love it! What is 21 in horse years? Can he have Guiness by then?

Sierra
Thanks! It looks like he will be allowed to have Guinness when he is five. But something tells me John may sneak it to him a little earlier. But you never know.

Dear Zenny, I have already ordered my “Its A Boy” poster from the Santa Anita gift shop, they were so helpful, and I’m happy that Old Friends, and others, will benefit. This evening I am going out to a surprise birthday party where I intend to drink a Guinness, it is after all almost St. Patrick’s Day, but I’ll be thinking of you and your beautiful son. Much love, hugs and kisses from Fort Erie.

From the looks of Zenyatta’s career to motherhood, It really paid off that John Sherriff’s let her mature into her body , heart, and mind. She took to her racing career and she has taken to motherhood greatly because her connections and one man believed in her enough to let her come full circle with her life. This is to you John Sherriffs, You are so much to be rewarded for Zenyatta and her life. Zenyatta took to motherhoood as quickly as a mare that has foaled several times instead of being her first time. I wish all trainers and owners would follow suit like you done instead of rushing a horse into something to fast. May God continue to give you that special something that you can see with your naked eyes that far too many overlook. You’ve made a celebrity out of this amazing mare and her now beautiful bundle of joy.

These photos are precious! That little Prince looks so confident already and I think it is because he has such a nurturing mother. And Zenyatta, the expression in her face is so serene and loving. These two are in LOVE! I love this!

We need a book with LOTS of pictures telling the entire story of Zenny from the track to motherhood. What a best seller that one would be!
carolyn
You know when RA had her colt she looked so withdrawn at that time but now she looks incredible with her colt but what I am pointing out here is that Zenyatta took to motherhood so easy, so prepared, mentally and physically. I mean, look at that video of her and prince after she foaled. look at the love she showed him and how happy she looked at haviing Ann in there with her, like a loving family bond. How often do we see such with a maiden mare? John never put no more on her than he thought she should endure, and look how well it has paid off in the end. I don’t know about any of you but I know you all feel the same way but that video brings tears to my eyes every time I see it. Now I want to be selfish here and say I would be just as happy to see Prince go from the foaling shed with mom to the breeding shed one day and never step foot on a track unless of course he is with John. I won’t worrry about Price as long as he’s with John becuase I know he will be in great hands with John in California , So his grandparents can see him all the time too.
judy berube from Rhode Island
Dear Carolyn and Z Fans:
I know Rachel Alexandra was having some pain issues after she foaled her colt and that’s why she and her colt were sent to the equine pain clinic for a while. But, overall I think she did very well bonding with her foal when you consider she herself was rejected right after foaling by her Dam, Lotta Kim. I think she did well not repeating her own mother’s actions. I did notice in photos that she will turn away from the colt and graze, whereas Z makes sure that her little guy is always in her line of vision. In all the photos of Z and her colt, she knows exactly where he is. Too Cute.
I always felt bad that RA had to be raised by a nurse mare instead of her own mom, but I think she doing’s great with her own colt. Hugs, JB
Max
Judy. Agree with you. RA is a good mom too.
Jan S. / Houston
Now she has her own baby to raise. She is a good mommy..
Peggy (N) South Georgia
Hey Judy didn’t know that about Rachel. makes me love her more. I think she is doing good with her colt too.
carolyn
Yes, Judy she is. I love watching videos of RA and her colt. She may have been abandoned by her own mom but she is a good mom, I meant that right after birth she seemed withdrawn but the pain she was in definitly accounted for that. I think Rachel will be a fine mom from here on out. I will go back and watch the videos and take a closer look at how you say she turns away and grazes. I didn’t take notice to that before now. Not every maiden mom is going to be like our Zenny . I know RA had many people loving her but she was handed over to different handlers /trainers and that to me makes me sad for her. whereas Zenny remained with John from the first day she stepped into his barn. They were all one big happy family and everyone took such great care of her. I can’t wait til we see Zenny and Prince running together in the paddock like I’ve seen videos and photos of Rachel and her prince running in the paddock. Beautiful, just Beautiful.
Max
There is a brief discussion of Lotta Kim in this link. She was not like Vertigineux.
I am glad for RA’s colt that RA is not like her mother.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rachel_Alexandra
Deborah Richman from So. Cal.
Very interesting, Judy. I didn’t know this about RA. I’m so glad for her and her colt that she is turning out to be a good mom.
Vicki B. near Hollywood Park
Also didn’t know this about R.A. & her mom — not sure, but I’ll bet Lotta Kim did not have good connection with her own mom, or something else unfortunate happened to her. From reading about her on Max’s link, sounds like she’s just neither physically nor emotionally well-suited to be a mom, although she now has another foal that survived.
Heidi K (easing into the transition) (Vallejo, Ca.)
Good afternoon, Dumplings! Aren’t the photos adorable. She is such an attentive, loving mom! In almost every single pic, she’s either licking him or nuzzling him. How Joyous!!
Sierra, love the stories… Waiting for the next chapter. :)
