Z’s Baby Shower at Santa Anita


SANTA ANITA TO HOST ZENYATTA BABY SHOWER;
‘IT’S A BOY’ POSTER FREE TO ALL THIS SATURDAY,
‘TEAM ZENYATTA’ AVAILABLE FOR AUTOGRAPH SESSION

Santa Anita Park will proudly host an equine baby shower in honor of the great Zenyatta’s newly arrived foal this Saturday, March 17. All on-track attendees will receive one “It’s a Boy” poster, free with their paid admission and will have an opportunity to meet “Team Zenyatta” in an autograph session prior to the races.

“The entire racing world is buzzing about Zenyatta’s new colt, who was born in Kentucky last Thursday night (March 8),” said Chris Quinn, Santa Anita’s Vice President of Sales and Marketing. “Zenyatta is easily the most popular horse of the past 25 to 30 years and people are clamoring to see and learn more about her new baby.

“We want to thank Jerry and Ann Moss and the entire Zenyatta team for helping us to make this happen and we look forward to following the progress of Zenyatta’s first foal in the weeks and months ahead. I think all of us here at Santa Anita are hopeful that someday, we’ll get to see this precious horse race here in Southern California.”

“The Queen’s Dance,” a life-size painting of Zenyatta on post parade, will also be on display at Santa Anita on Saturday. This magnificent work of art, first unveiled during Breeders’ Cup week this past November at Churchill Downs, was created by Jaime Corum (whose posters and original artwork will be available at the gift shop this weekend).

Corum, along with members of the Zenyatta team, will be on hand Saturday and will participate in the Zenyatta autograph session which will take place from 11:15 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in Santa Anita’s East Paddock Gardens area.

Several charities, including CANTER of California Old Friends, Race for Education and EAGALA, which have been involved with Zenyatta throughout her legendary racing and now maternal career, will be represented at Saturday’s event.

First post time on Saturday is 12:30 p.m., with the Grade I Santa Margarita Stakes (won by Zenyatta in 2010) and the Irish Obrien Stakes headlining a festive St. Patrick’s Day card.

    Hope it doesn’t rain…I definitely will be going by there. I usually ride my own horses on Saturday morning, but if it’s wet (as it’s forecasted to be) that won’t be happening & I can get to the track by autograph time….how fun!

    Best of wishes to new Mom and Baby!!!!!!!!!!!!
    In Feb 2011, I happily waited for a signed poster of Zenyatta and Secretariat and lithograph of Zenyatta when Z received the Secretariat Vox Populi Award at Santa Anita. On Saturday, I will be hoping for a signed poster of Zenyatta and her little Prince. Z had her baby boy on my birthday which (I have to admit) I was very excited about!!
    Thank you Ann & Jerry Moss, Dottie (The Voice of Z….what a tremendous job!!) and Team Zenyatta for yet another special event for Z’s fans, including a chance to donate to the equine charities.
    All of your combined efforts are appreciated, appreciated, appreciated!!!

        Judy. Thank you for pointing out the video. I had tried to open it before on my iPad, but it would not work and forgot about it while I did other things. When I saw your note, I switched to my computer and the link opened. Oh my, what a wonderful video. Kari B did such a good job on this and the follow up work from her daughter was perfect. I have never seen a lot of these photos and videos from Lane’s End. Watching this made me happy and so sad at the same time. I did not know Kari except through Zenyatta, but I cannot help but share the loss when I see her sweet soul in this work. I am so glad that she got to touch the Queen at the BCC. and Dottie told us about it. It made us part of it because we as lovers of Z know what it meant. That makes me smile. RIP always, Kari B. We were all lucky to know you even a little from afar.

          Thank you so much. Moma put her soul into that video. Your sweet words are very comforting. We are very grateful for both times she got to touch her beloved Queen Zenyatta. I agonized about sharing some of her video of Legend’s Eden, Moma’s name for Lane’s End after her dear friend Cynthia coined the name. I will always be grateful to Dottie and Steve Haskin for honoring Moma and sharing portions of her story.

        Judy, thanks for this awesome video. What a special and talented lady Kari B was. I always loved her Zenyatta videos. She continued making her videos with dignity and grace in spite of her illness. And her daughter did a marvelous job in completing the video; that must have taken courage and strength after the death of her mother. Best wishes Judy and thanks again. Terri

      Judy I hope so too. I know that Tasty is not that late, but it is now a week since baby Z arrived. Apparently, Lane’s End will find a new companion for Z because the age difference between the foals will be too much. It is a shame. Looking forward to see if Tasty’s baby is gray/roan like his or her mother. Tasty is quite beautiful. Pacing for Tasty.

      I have finally gotten my teacher interested in horses! I knew it when today for the 4th time this week she told me about an article that has to do with horses. It all started with my project on horse racing during the depression and now with my project about therapeutic horseback riding. I could not believe it when she told me about this article!

    Thank you so much for sharing the adorable photo of the Baby Shower poster!! It is TOO Cute, to borrow a phrase from our Dear Dottie! I will be ordering from the Santa Anita gift shop so I’ll be able to have one of these adorable posters in my home here in TX although I’m not making the trip to Santa Anita. It would be so much fun to meet up with the Dumplings and get the poster autographed but that is not meant to be. I wish you all safe travels and loads of fun!

    Hi – this sounds so great – wish we could attend. Will Zenyatta be having her day again this year at the Breeder’s Cup? We are attending the Breeders Cup and would love to participate in this. Also, will Zenyatta’s life size statue be on display at Santa Anita for the Breeders Cup? That would be awesome. Love to Zenyatta and Baby Z and also to Tasty.
