Happy Monday!
Ziconic is on his fourth month of early training under Jeanne Mayberry, and we went to Ocala earlier this month to visit.
We arrived early on a Monday to find him excited to start the day. He has the same routine that Coz did this time last year. He’s even in his brother’s old stall.
We watched Ziconic’s morning workout and then hung out around his paddock while he enjoyed the Florida sunshine. He loves peppermints just like his mom, and we had plenty on hand.
At the end of the day, Ziconic even got to FaceTime with Zenyatta.
We didn’t leave without asking Jeanne, April, and Jackie to answer questions from this fans. Check back next week for a Mayberry Farm edition of Ask The Experts.
Ziconic has an official Facebook page! Like him here.
Enjoy!

Words are judged by what we have in our hearts. Our ears pick up the words we hear, but once inside the heart decides the meaning.
Love is one of those words. To some it is purely physical-and others hear it as flowery springtime with little substance. But to some it is healing and a deep and wonderful commitment that cannot waver. It is the power at the core of a person, a strength not dependent on muscle and bone but life and principle and character. If the heart is right, the decision cannot fail.
I shall exercise my calm, deliberate judgment in behalf of those most dear to me…

Dear Kathy.Indeed love is so powerful.I know Zenyatta loves her boys equally no matter what happens in their racing careers momma will always be there for them!
No snow here,in fact,it’s turned milder but am glad I got my shopping done am nursing a heavy cold!Oh,I long for the spring and our ospreys return!Zoe isn’t up yet!Loved the pic of Diane reading Gabe’s book to her.Mango sounds so sweet speaking ,poor Judy needs root canal Ouch!!I hate to see Joey losing “friends”I know he still has a lot but…He was so brave when he got cancer.I so miss seeing him around the studios every day.Had to laugh at Boo sticking his tongue out at Buddy!Dolly and Harry are out and about she looked so pretty in her dress. We would never have dreamt of dressing our cats!!It is 46yrs ago today I lost a beautiful black tomcat called Boy I have never forgotten that sad day.Hope you have a wonderful Friday eve.Love and hugs to you, kisses to Holly, Nikko and Sugar Sheena.
Kathy
Dear Sheena,
Feel better soon! The pics of Diane reading to Zoe are my favorites. They need to turn them into book marks! Poor Judy…a root canal. I’ve never had one, but hat e the sound of it! That is distressing that Joey is losing numbers. He was a wonderful cat. Looks like Human had 8 puppy feet to clean when she brought Boo and Buddy inside! Those two never fail to entertain. Dolly has gorgeous dresses. I know what you mean about never dressing your cats. While I love Zoe’s beautiful dresses, the only clothing I have for my three are little sweaters. RIP Boy. Would that we never had to lose our beloved pets. I know from experience that each anniversary brings back those sad days vividly. Have a good Friday Eve.Love and hugs from me and kisses from the “kids.” Kathy.

Judy,
Thank you for this lovely upbeat story. I know we all pray for more owners like this. She is right, racing has to change the way the horses are treated if it is to draw in fans.

I love how Ziconic has inherited his Mom’s and his 3-times great-grandpa’s love of cats. Zennie has a special kitty friend at Lane’s End, and if I remember from watching Zenyatta videos on You Tube, she had a feline friend in her barn at Hollywood Park which used to follow her around when she went out to graze on her specially planted patch of grass. Secretariat had a kitten named Scooter in his stall at Belmont. Unfortunately, after Red won the Belmont and the TC in otherworldly style, some low-life stole Scooter. So fear not, Ziconic, a love of cats is an inherited trait on BOTH sides of your noble family tree!

I am excited about my “come back boys” this year. Lea, Palace Malice and Ride On Curlin. Was really bummed out when Muchie retired but love these three. So glad they are all coming back and that Lea and ROC had wins in their first times out. Only goes to show that when your favorite retires, more come to fill the void. Still miss Muchie but am sure he is getting ready to have a lot more fun than he did racing.

Well, you must be very happy and proud of them. Hope PM has a good outing his first time back too.

Judy,
There seems to be a Kitten in almost every turf race. Kittens everywhere.
The Ramseys have a decent 3 year old dirt horse this year in International Star. Not a Kitten but hope they have a good year with him and he stays healthy.
Don’t know if Vicar will come back.

Dear Sheena,
Thank you for our Friday Hovis update. Looking for a job…life is TOUGH! Plus a lost shoe, plus the ginormous hay bill. Hovis is very handsome, maybe he can be a model! Hovis is a very high-maintenance guy. After all, he is a star in the making. I think Hovis needs to be pampered. Maybe Mother and Father need to get part time jobs! Happy weekend everyone. Amen, safe trips for all horses and jockeys. Hugs, Kathy.

Dear Kathy,
I truly enjoyed your post on Hovis !!!, I couldn’t stop laughing!!, I agree that his parents should get part time jobs and give Hovis a break. After all, he is so handsome and a star in the making. Who cares about a lost shoe? maybe we should send Hovis some care package to take the edge off his mounting stress.
Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
Thanks Sheena. Finding a lost shoe must be harder than it sounds! Poor Hovis. I feel like we should send his Mum a little donation.
VickiS.
WOW! He looks AMAZING! His face and eyes give him an “old soul” look. He appears very intelligent, yet you can see he has some growing up to do and that he has some “sass” about him. He’s going to be “schooling” the others on the track, mark my words! :)

We can walk through a thousand people’s lives and feel only the loneliness of our own existence. Others move by on both sides and some of them stand in the brightest light while our own corner is so dark. But we have to know that the noisy successes of other people are often their ways of dealing with the still places in their lives. Others are working with their lacks and needs, their call for recognition. All of us would be warriors. All of us would stitch red into our costumes. Fear can penetrate the strongest fortress-and the password is compassion, pure and simple understanding.
The Great Spirit made us all-He made my skin red and yours white; He placed us on this earth, and intended that we should live differently from each other.

Sheena, not sure if this is the article you were trying to share,
but here is an excellent one from today’s Telegraph on the great Winston Churchill.
Sir Winston Churchill: our saviour, my boss
As the 50th anniversary of the death of Britain’s wartime leader approaches,
Lord Carington – the last surviving member of Winston Churchill’s government –
tells Victoria Lambert of the man, his moods and a life unparalleled in history

Hi Zsters and hello my sweet, gorgeous Zenyatta.
Something new and exciting on THE VAULT: Did you know that America had one of the best National Hunt jumpers ever? (And it wasn’t Battleship) I’m ever so proud of this one because it was hard going given a distinct absence of information. I really hope that you enjoy it!

Dear Abigail:
Thank you. Another fantastic and informative article from The Vault. I did not know about this wonderful son of Man ‘o War. He was an outstanding jumper for being only 15 hands tall and he was a very brave boy. The last video really does prove that it takes courage and skill on the part of the horse and rider to succeed at jumps.
I am sad that he died in his last race and didn’t have the opportunity to retire and enjoy a long life. Love and Hugs, JB
Abigail_1849
Thank YOU, Judy! I know, the dark side of Blockade’s life — both his continual failures until he joined up with trainer Fisher as well as his sad end — made it seem important to me to write about him. HUGS!
