Happy Monday!
Ziconic is on his fourth month of early training under Jeanne Mayberry, and we went to Ocala earlier this month to visit.
We arrived early on a Monday to find him excited to start the day. He has the same routine that Coz did this time last year. He’s even in his brother’s old stall.
We watched Ziconic’s morning workout and then hung out around his paddock while he enjoyed the Florida sunshine. He loves peppermints just like his mom, and we had plenty on hand.
At the end of the day, Ziconic even got to FaceTime with Zenyatta.
We didn’t leave without asking Jeanne, April, and Jackie to answer questions from this fans. Check back next week for a Mayberry Farm edition of Ask The Experts.
Ziconic has an official Facebook page! Like him here.
Enjoy!

Spectacular colors and so majestic. Shouldn’t be so surprised since you are Zenyatta’s son, but still – you take my breath away! This is so exciting! Thank you so much, Team Z and Mayberry for these amazing photos. What a page today! What a privilege to see all of this history in the making. Many blessings to everyone there and here on your site, Zenny. with love, Elizabeth

Thank you to the Z team for the pictures. They were worth waiting for! He is so beautiful and has a kind eye. Wonder if he bites? Does he have a jolly ball? See he has a cat friend like Coz.
I think there is a part of me that is a bit insane over this guy. He just makes my old heart beat faster and takes my breath away. So glad that he appears well and happy at Mayberry.
Glad he got to have a chat with both his moms.

Dear Shirlee:
I remember Peggy said in her post about her visit with ZI at Mayberry’s that she was told “he’s a biter too” like his brother. Too cute. Love and Hugs, JB

Sue Noel in Sun Valley,ID
First our beloved Chromie wins, not one,but TWO Eclipse Awards–then we get this incredible post with so many BEAUTIFUL photos of our Prince Ziconic!!! I am truly in chestnut heaven!!!
I believe that, one hundred years from now, people will still be talking about the great Ziconic!!! This boy is going down in the history books–I just KNOW it!! I believe HE knows it too!! He is perfection on four legs and one of the most gorgeous horses EVER!!! I positively adore him!!!
Am just about recovered from our annual holiday madness here in Sun Valley. Wow–did we ever have hordes of visitors this year–great for business!! Christmas Eve here this year was amazing. It started snowing about noon and kept it up until late in the evening. It was so beautiful going into the Christmas Eve service and out again at the end, with the snow softly falling and everything white and quiet. It was like being in a snow globe!
After the holidays,we went through a spate of Really cold weather. About three weeks ago, when Boss Mare Sue and I went down to the barn for our Saturday morning ride and it was 10 below!! Thank goodness,we get to ride in the arena–we kick the hheaters on for about 20 minutes and it really takes the chill off. The horses usually roll in the nice soft dirt first thing and then run around for awhile. Barnabyis so cute–he will play for awhile, then catch my eye and walk over and put his head on my chest,as if to say, “did you want me ,Mom?” I may have told you already that, when he saw the Christmas tree in the arena again this year,he walked up to it right away and checked it out, as if to say, “there’s that pretty thing again,I like it!” Honestly, it really seems like you can just SEE what he is thinking, sometimes!
This past weekend he had a bit of a runny nose so we called the barn manager to let her know and she came right over and took his temp, which was normal, thank goodness, and then, just to be safe, isolated Traveller and Barnaby in a different paddock for a few days, where they are not in direct contact with other horses. They can see them, but not get nose to nose. They are taking his temp twice a day and it is still normal. The vet is going to stop by and check him over, but he doesn’t act at all sick–and–his appitie is great so Katie thinks he is fine. I,of course, was quite worried at first–can’t even bear to THINK about anything being wrong with my precious boy!!
At first, they were going to isolate them in one of the small barns, but, when Traveller was put into a stall, she was frantic!! Guess she had never been in one before and she HATED it. The stalls in there were big double boxes,so we tried putting them in together, which calmed her down some, but we knew that,if we had left her there, she would have been so upset that she would have hurt herself, so Katie went to Plan B. they will monitor them for a few more days and then they can go back in their own paddock. I will get some more extra bedding for them this weekend,so his bed will be fluffy again!!
Marshall,I’m so sorry about your Reiily. I have been following the blog, just haven’t been able to post for awile. Sorry for any birthdays I missed ! Loved hearing about the donkey going to Angela’s!! Maybe it will like the emu!! I think I would love to go to Angelas to hang out!!
So glad Zenny and Zi got to FaceTime–best use for an iPad I’ve ever seen!!!!!
Peaceful evening to all!!!!!
Marshall (NC Broad)
Dear Sue Noel,
I love your posts! I am envious and a little teary-eyed about your snow on Christmas Eve! It sounded SO exquisitely beautiful and peaceful, just right. Your descriptions are wonderful — makes me feel as though I am really seeing Barnaby, the riding ring and the Christmas tree there. Will keep Barnaby and Traveller in my thoughts and hope the temperature returns to normal soon. It is so worrying whenever there is a problem with our babies.
Thank you so much for your mention of Reilly. I appreciate it; he was my special boy.
Christmas in Sun Valley must be heavenly! I hope I can get there one day.
Happy New Year and all the best wishes to you, Barnaby and friends!
Love and Big Hugs
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear Sue:
So good to have a post from you. Hope Barnaby continues to be well. Best not to leave Traveler in the stall when she gets that upset; doesn’t take much for them to injure themselves.
Yes, Angela’s farm is a wonderful place. Love and Hugs to all of you, JB

I have always loved a chestnut, and he is absolutely gorgeous. Dare I say he reminds me of Secretariat??? A brilliant blaze and three white socks, different front legs but who cares about which leg???

He looks fabulous. Lots of length, very calm, and seems at ease with everybody.
We know he has great coordination, from the moment he first stood up. And he imitated Zenyatta’s every move exactly. I wondered if he’d ever let go of her, but maybe that closeness, and all that imitation, gave him what he needed to be successful and happy on his own. If he still has that amazing coordination, and I bet he does, he has real promise as a race horse. I hope he turns out to be “a Tapit.” He looks like he will be.
Jo
Stunning! Absolutely gorgeous. Thank you so much for the amazing photos. Skippy has grown into quite a looker!
Kathy
Ziconic looks amazing! Drop dead handsome. We can never thank you enough, Team Z, for keeping us all connected.
