Happy Monday!
Ziconic is on his fourth month of early training under Jeanne Mayberry, and we went to Ocala earlier this month to visit.
We arrived early on a Monday to find him excited to start the day. He has the same routine that Coz did this time last year. He’s even in his brother’s old stall.
We watched Ziconic’s morning workout and then hung out around his paddock while he enjoyed the Florida sunshine. He loves peppermints just like his mom, and we had plenty on hand.
At the end of the day, Ziconic even got to FaceTime with Zenyatta.
We didn’t leave without asking Jeanne, April, and Jackie to answer questions from this fans. Check back next week for a Mayberry Farm edition of Ask The Experts.
Ziconic has an official Facebook page! Like him here.
Enjoy!

Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
I may be in the minority on this, but I am SO hoping that Chrome stays home! Other than Animal Kingdom, American horses haven’t done all that well lately, and I am convinced that my Dullahan was never the same after making that trip. Plenty to do here – he really doesn’t have to prove anything!
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear Sandy and Linda:
I hope he stays home too. Love and Hugs, JB

Sandy; I agree with you and keep CC home! They are born and win here, let them breed here in the U.S.A.

I agree, Sally B.!
pamhomeier
Actually, I worry more about the political situation over there. I think they should just stay home. Don’t take chances.
lauraj_cincinnati
I don’t think there is much of a “political situation” in Dubai.
pamhomeier
I so hope you are right Laura, but its a big worry when they are over there in their “back yard”. I am afraid those people would try anything to hurt the “enemy”. I just don’t want it to be a horse.
Max
The entire Middle East is not the ideal place to be for anyone from the West. Staying home is a good idea.
shirleeinindy
Sandy, I agree. So many of our American horses are never the same after they come back from Dubai.
SallyB.(AuntiecherishesZandheryoung)
It is an utmost compliment for Chrome, but I too hope he stays here to do his things. hugs, Sally B
Linda in NJ
I agree with you Sandy. Steve Coburn said that the trip is 20 hours. The horses have to stand the entire time. Steve said it takes a lot out of the horses and it takes them a long time to recover.
I miss Dully too. And I adorned Giant Ryan. His very next race after the World Cup, he fell. He was taken to Bolton and did not recover.
I hope the CA Crome team sits this one out.
Linda in NJ
Oh, sorry Chrome, a typo in the previous message!

Barbados Out With Small Knee Fracture: Will Miss Derby
San Diego Horse Racing January 28 2015
One of the most intriguing prospects on this early portion of the Kentucky Derby trail will be sidelined for the next couple of months and will miss the Run For the Roses on the May 2nd. Barbados, a good looking son of Speightstown, will undergo minor knee surgery at Rood & Riddle Equine Medical Center in Kentucky next Tuesday.

did anyone read or hear ziconic’s measurements…..i couldn’t hear the gentleman in the video…..curious as to comparison to cozmic one at that age when he first went down for training. it has seemed to me that ziconic appears larger than coz….ty
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear Sandi:
I think the man measuring ZI in the video said he measured 59 1/4 inches in height. (Hope I heard correctly). That would be about 15 hands, I think. That was while he was still at Lane’s End. Bet he is a lot taller now. Love and Hugs, JB

An individual responsibility is to set the course of the day, a year-a lifetime. Words and thoughts bring us to some crucial point of strength or else utter weakness.
Decide now to forgive. It does not mean reconciling with a enemy-but it does mean freedom. Decide to love-others, but yourself in particular. Wait until the flames settle before you take on the problem. Even tempers and orderly minds can handle heat better. Kathy, I can not believe 8 years have passed. Barbaro captured my heart as well as those around the world. It was a devastating end to remember……. He was an awesome horse that fought up to the end.

Kathy
Dear Sally,
Losing Barbaro was devastating. Just like we feel Zenyatta is “our” horse, we felt the same about Barbaro. As you will recall in December of 2006 it looked like he would be able to live on a farm and just be a happy horse. Maybe even stand at stud. But it was not to be. Still missing that beautiful boy. I’ll always remember his intelligence and his incredible fighting spirit.
Hugs, Kathy

Dear Kathy.A big weather day in the UK!!Quite a lot of snow in the north and we have had some showers here in the west.”A light dusting” so far. There were also a couple of small earthquakes in England somewhere in Hampshire and then Rutland! No news fro Fubu the last couple of days ,hope all is well.Gosh,it’s 6 months since Joey died I still find it sad he is losing friends if you can call them that.Great news about Mango visiting California and then calling with Zoe and Diane on the way home!Mango was topping up her tan yesterday!Andy won his match and is through to the final.I couldn’t watch had to go shopping! There is a great story in our papers today about a tiny dog called Digby he was abandoned and he has made friends with a huge dog called Nero! You’ll find it if you google their names!Mango’s boyfriend Oakley is having his foot amputated today she was asking for prayers.Oh Ray is loving all the snow Jack O was almost buried!Have a great Friday eve.Love and hugs to you,Kisses for Holly,Nikko and Sugar.Sheena.
Kathy
Dear Sheena,
Earthquakes! Now that’s something I’m familiar with. I join you in hoping all is well with Fubu. It’s always touch and go with him. Always a concern. This has to be weighing heavily on Kimberly. We still miss dear Joey so much. I agree, very sad he is losing friends. As you say, the people leaving aren’t friends! Mango has a very exciting trip ahead of her. Getting to meet Zoe and Diane is icing on the cake. Congratulations, Andy! Will look for Digby and Nero. Sounds like a great story! Prayers going up for Oakley. It’s good that Ray loves snow when you consider where he lives! Happy Friday Eve to you. Enjoy the weekend ahead! Love and hugs from me, kisses from Holly, Nikko and Sugar. Kathy.

Hi Z-sters!
Thanks for your kind thoughts. I am fine, safe and warm.
My town of Scituate took a major hit and our next door neighbor, Marshfield, did too. Not just 60 mph winds and 30 inches of snow — but the ocean broke through the seawall in one spot and a few beachside roads had 4 ft. of icy cold salt water that later froze in huge chunks. So much salty ice — other worldly!
Hard to believe — the sun is out, the sky is blue, and I’m back at work today. People stayed home and let the plows do their thing. Such hearty people New Englanders are!
Hugs to all.
Annie B in SCI MA
Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
Glad to hear from you Annie B. The result of the broken seawall must be what I saw in the paper. Cars were submerged up to their windows! So glad that things have cleared up and peeps stayed off the roads so that the plows could do their thing.
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear Anne:
So glad you’re OK. We’ve learned to be a hearty bunch.
