Happy Monday!
Ziconic is on his fourth month of early training under Jeanne Mayberry, and we went to Ocala earlier this month to visit.
We arrived early on a Monday to find him excited to start the day. He has the same routine that Coz did this time last year. He’s even in his brother’s old stall.
We watched Ziconic’s morning workout and then hung out around his paddock while he enjoyed the Florida sunshine. He loves peppermints just like his mom, and we had plenty on hand.
At the end of the day, Ziconic even got to FaceTime with Zenyatta.
We didn’t leave without asking Jeanne, April, and Jackie to answer questions from this fans. Check back next week for a Mayberry Farm edition of Ask The Experts.
Ziconic has an official Facebook page! Like him here.
Enjoy!

Never again and never forget, but yet, mass murder occurs more and more frequently these days. Sadly, I think cruelty is entirely a human behavior.
Prayerful remembrance for all those who died in those awful concentration camps and for those who survived. May they all find peace and be comforted.

The latest big joke going around is to insult some guy, friend or foe, by saying that he found his wife on farmersonly.com. I don’t find it that funny because I think that the ladies on those TV commercials look pretty good. Besides, what makes these men think that they are any sort of a prize?
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear TC GP:
Well said. Love and Hugs, JB

Terry,
As an old farm girl, I agree with you 100%.

You tell ’em, TC GP.
Although, Jason, a member from that farmers site needs to work on his romantic lines.
Jason said ” I’ve been around livestock all my life…..you’re everything I’ve been looking for.”
shirleeinindy
Ann,
Right on! Don’t think that would thrill many women.
lauraj_cincinnati
True dat, although I think the ladies in some of the ads are models in cowboy boots. Wearing cowboy boots doesn’t make you a country girl. I should know. I have cowboy boots.
The whole “farmers only” thing does remind me of the old joke about the farmer who advertised for a wife: “Looking for good woman with tractor. Please send picture of tractor.”
Terry Crow
lauraj–Point well taken. Some of those women do kind of look like models. I guess I am kind of tired of seeing women on TV who don’t look like real women, if you know what I mean.

Some redneck jokes for today. You might be a redneck if you are related to the swamp people. You might be a redneck if you were expelled from summer school. You night be a redneck if you use Preparation H as wrinkle cream. You might be a redneck if most of your family has appeared on “Cops.” You might be a redneck if you use a toilet seat as a hood ornament. You might be a redneck if you have a bumper sticker on your coffee table.

Dear Z Fans:
We got about 17 inches of snow here; more than 2 feet in some places. Went out to clean the car off and there are drifts on the sides of the cars well over 2 to 3 feet. Very tough walking in areas that are not yet plowed to get to our cars. Luckily, we did not lose power.
Shared texts with Angela and Amanda. Charlie and the other horses are fine. Angela plans to let them back into their paddocks during the day tomorrow. They have been in there stalls since Sunday night, so they will be happy to run in the snow.
The woman that runs the barn, where Hudson is, lives within walking distance, so she and her husband walked there today to check on the horses. Hudson and the other horses are well. Love and Hugs, JB

JudyB. Good to hear that you are okay. How did Frank like the snow?
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear Max:
Thanks. Wish I had my camera with me on Sunday when I was at the farm the night before the storm. Frank, Bluebell (the calf) and 7 Minis were all inside in a pen together. They get on together very wello. All will get to go back outside tomorrow. I’ll have to ask Angela how Frank likes the snow. Love and Hugs, JB

Dear Sandy, Sue, Ann, Marshall, Shirlee, Sally, Marshall and Peggy:
Thank you all so much for your sweet concern. Lola Mae and I are just fine. Not losing power is a gift.
Angela, Charlie and all are well. Was worried about Hudson because no one lives on the property where she is. The woman that runs it lives nearby and she and her husband walked to the barn early today to check on Hudson and the other horses (must have been difficult for them). All are well. Deb and Amanda are determined to get out there tomorrow. One or the other of them usually goes to the barn every day, so they are anxious to check on her.
Anne B and other East Coast Z’sters, hope you got through the storm OK.

Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear Sheena:
Actually, not losing power was the good news. The snow mounds will be with us for quite a while, so driving around them with caution is a must. Yes, the horses will be thrilled to be outside once again tomorrow. Thank you for your sweet concern. Love and Hugs, JB

Sure hope that YOU aren’t having to do any of the digging out Judy. Please be very careful!
sheena.davies(wales)
Dear Max.Yes,We have coped with a lot in our time! The 75th anniversary of the battle of Britain this year when we faced the Germans alone.
I have been reading the short one’s blog on Paddy Power he says Annie is in a race against time to get ready for the festival. He said the Fly hit a “flat spot”in the middle of the race sunday could have been the ground “very dead”I hope all the wild things are coping with the bad weather.Moosie is pretty quiet these days but his followers are rising just the same!Sheena.
Max
Living through that nightly hell in the Battle of Britain was the supreme test of endurance. Never surrender.
From watching the video many times, it’s clear that The Fly won that race entirely on his own. His jumping was far better than any other horse in the race. Saw video of Paul Townend checking The Fly’s legs after a workout. The Fly was aggressively eating his hay and posing for the camera simultaneously. Really good.
The Moose is a horse with limitless charisma. He does what he wants. Secretly everyone wants to be independent like Moosie.
sheena.davies(wales)
Dear Max.Winston’s famous words “We shall never surrender”In Wales the Swansea docks were targeted nightly the sky over our town was bright red with the flames.
Yes,I think all horses admire the Moose’s independence. Our humble legend KS was congratulating the Fly as well.He is a wonderful jumper as was Istabraq.Sheena.

Judy,
Met the wonderful Slew at Three Chimneys some years ago. I was gifted with some hair from his mane which I still carry with me as my good luck charm.
His owners loved and cared for him and he lived like a king at Three Chimneys.
Would you believe that Texas Red was purchase for even less than Slew? They only paid $17,000 for him and he has already earned over a million.

It absolutely would make a great movie. Judy, we’re so glad you are ok up there.

Incredible photos Judy! The dogs and kids seem to be having more fun than those poor cats! The picture of the hawk (I think) is amazing, and the fat snowcat at the end is just too cute!

Dear Judy B.,
Thanks so much for the photos! Really enjoyed the “snow-dogs”; most dogs seem to love sniffing and exploring the scent of things in the snow — snow enhances the smells, I think.
What a “marshmallow world” you have!

Losing is not always what it seems, and how we react makes the difference. We may be disappointed, feel let down-and maybe a little betrayed-but we haven’t lost until we quit.
What is done is done. We have cried and we have hurt-but this will show the stuff we are made of and how nothing can keep us down. How we think, what we say, and where we put our faith will set our new course and keep us on it.
Our new home will be beyond a great river on the way to the setting sun…our wigwams on another land where we hope the Great Spirit will smile upon us.

Reading the posts about Winston Churchill and the Battle of Britain bring back a great memory. We were in London in August of ’99, and we just happened to realize it was the Queen Mum’s birthday. So we got in line the next day to see her. We ended up standing behind the barricades (front row) for 6 hours. (We could never do that now!). One of the broadcasters happened to hear my Texas accent and decided to interview me, so she asked me why i thought there was so much love for the Queen Mum. I said that she stayed in London with her people during the worst of the war. She did not exhibit fear. Well, my father-in-law was at home watching CNN and he saw us on the news! How fun that was! We saw the whole family, except for Philip and Anne, who were off on royal duties.
