Dear Judy B.,
Love this! Thanks so much for posting this link. This is a wonderful mural by Mr. Bellocq (Peb) — he absolutely captured these subjects with gentle humor, himself included. Outstanding caricatures. Loved the walk down memory-lane.
Oh dear Judy,
On the mural, they all are in caricature form, very very beautiful.
He is great artist, he reminds me of my ex.
I love it. Hugs and love Ingrid.
Judy B. How special this mural is. This is an incredible work of art. I can not imagine being able to paint this! Wonderful. Thank you Judy.

California Chrome draws rail in Dubai World Cup prep
By: Kellie Reilly Twinspires.com on February 23, 2016
California Chrome will tackle seven rivals in his Thursday prep for the Dubai World Cup (G1), but his biggest challenges could be inanimate objects: he drew the rail, and carries top weight in the handicap that goes off as Meydan’s 6TH race (12:55 p.m. EST).
The 2014 Horse of the Year has historically preferred outside trips, rather than being stuck down on the inside and feeling his movement constricted. His two prior rail draws resulted in a pair of sixth-place finishes, in the 2013 Golden State Juvenile and more notably in the 2014 Pennsylvania Derby (G2). California Chrome also had trouble breaking from post 2 in the Belmont S. (G1), where his Triple Crown bid resulted in a dead-heat fourth. (Yet post 2 was no problem for him earlier in the 2014 San Felipe [G2], and the popular chestnut turned in a tour de force on the front end http://www.twinspires.com/blog/2016/2/23/california-chrome-draws-rail-dubai-world-cup-prep#

“Here’s the provisional racecard from emiratesracing.com: “
So sorry Chromie drew the rail–but–I’ll bet that they have a plan in mind to negate the problem. They know how he hates it and bet they have practiced some moves that will get him out of trouble. Just loved seeing him playing in the sand–he looks just like Barnaby when he does that !
I surely reated up when reading about Feel The Beat–how wonderful that she had those great years with those who saved and loved her. If only they could all end up that way !!
I must send out my condolences to all of Steve Willard’s friends and family, as well as all who loved him from afar. What a kind and wonderful gentleman he was. I was blessed to meet him after the 2013 BC, when a lucky bunch of us went out to Hollywood Park. He was so very kind to all of us and, when we were about to leave and I began to tear up while telling him how much it had meant to me to meet him, he gave me a hug to comfort me. I will never forget his kindness that day, and the stories he told us. You could certainly tell how much he loved Zenyatta, and, how much he appreciated having been able to ride her. I like thinking that ZPrincess was there to meet him at the Rainbow Bridge.
Did you ALL know that this is the first year Zenyatta will be eligible for the Hall of Fame? The induction ceremony is Aug. 12 at Saratoga Springs. Admission is free. Just putting it out there if anyone is planning their summer vacation…
Isn’t it wonderful that we had these 2 great mares coming along at the same time. One reason I love this blog is we can be fans of both with out discussions of who was best, who would have won in a match race etc. Just agree about the fact that both are champions.

Dear Sally:
Thanks for asking about Hudson. The girls are planning to compete in four shows this Spring and Summer in Connecticut, three in Woodstock and one in another town; the name escapes me right now. First one is Memorial Day weekend.
They have been able to train all Winter in the indoor ring and now they will be practicing van loading on weekends, as H can be a handful and very stubborn if she sets her mind to it. They will compete in Equitation, English Pleasure and Jumping. She does really well. Love and Hugs, JB
Good job Ziconic! Thought I would say that, since this is Zenyatta’s son and her web site.
I didn’t realize this site had turned into a chat room for everyone concerned with every other horse and animal, except them.

Dear Kathy.Mind over matter as my mum used to tell me.North Wales police have caused controversy by deliberately running down and killing a foxhound who was running loose on a dual carriageway at 3am in the morning.Took the easy way out by not bothering to call animal rescue.I have just been on their FB!!!I hope those coppers can live with their decision!
Gosh, politics is getting exciting both sides of the pond now.Our Dave threw his toys out of the pram because his 2 friends Bojo and Michael Gove are supporting the leave EU campaign and Trump is doing well in the US!!!They were discussing on the radio if friendships can survive differing opinions.Well I have family and friends of different political views and religions but we all respect each others opinions that’s how it should be.
I like these new little signs on FB or emoticons as you call them I don’t know what happened to the “unlike” button.Diane is such a talented lady a beautiful portrait.Zoe was sad yesterday that no children wanted to read to her.Typical of a modern society.I went on Colonel Meow/s page last and heard Boots the dog passed away on December 30th Anne-Marie only has the brawd left now.Did you see the pic of the ratties all dressed as spacemen?Mr Fibbs is still doing well in the race for the White House.I could see Mango said Mattie was a little better has she been ill?Mango had a haircut. It seems getting cold weather with spring knocking on the door we should have these temps in December.Such a lovely photo of Joey up on Monday ,Miss him so much.Felix has made a friend called Jojo another railway station cat down south. So glad you survived the dentist!!!Peace.Love. Doughnuts.Have a great day.Love and hugs to you,Kisses for Holly,Nikko and Sugar.SheenaXOXO
I’m sitting here with a warm compress on my forehead then I’ll put it on my upper lip. Dr. told me to do that to help with the healing process. This fall has been a doozie! That’s terrible about that foxhound! Really terrible decision on the cops’ part. The politics is like a circus right now. Quite entertaining. I think getting along with people of differing viewpoints is called being an adult! Yes, Diane does beautiful artwork. She’s a very talented lady! Poor little Zoe.She’s so outgoing, you know she couldn’t figure out why no one came to read to her. I think one of the librarians should have come over! Too bad about Boots. It’s so hard to lose our furbabies. Loved the pic of the ratties dressed up as spacemen. Also the pic of Marty pretending to be a potato! All the pics of Joey were fabulous. I miss him, too! I didn’t know Mattie had been sick. I’ll look for Jojo. Have a good Hump Day. Love and hugs from me, kisses from Holly, Nikko and Sugar. Kathy XOXO
Just found this article and wonderful photo on War Emblem I think you will find interesting. He’s had to be gelded to stay at Old Friends. Poor boy is recovered and doing well. Very insightful comments by Mr. Blowen on WE’s personality. Love and Hugs, JB
Dear Judy. I have just been reading about War Emblem on one of our FB’s over here.Strange he had to be gelded so he could stay in the US.They said it may make his “golden years”easier because of his temperament. He has recovered well bless him.Enjoy your new life.Love and hugs Sheena
Judy,
Thanks as always for finding these interesting articles. I knew War Admiral was a bit on the spirited side. Guess gelding is the best thing for him. Too bad he wasn’t really into breeding. Know he will be loved and well cared for at Old Friends. Bless Michael and his team. As I have said many times, Ferdinand did not die in vain.
I haven’t chosen one yet either. Still hoping that ZI will make it to the Derby. There are so many good ones in this three year old crop. Love and Hugs, JB
Songbird Could Make Next Start in Santa Ysabel
HorseRacingNation.com February 21, 2016
Champion filly Songbird could make her next start in the Grade III Santa Ysabel Stakes for three-year-old fillies at a mile and a sixteenth on March 5.
Trainer Jerry Hollendorfer did not rule out the $100,000 race after the undefeated Eclipse Award winner as best in her division as a two-year-old last year worked five furlongs on Santa Anita’s fast main track Sunday in 1:00.80 under regular rider Mike Smith. http://www.horseracingnation.com/news/Songbird_Could_Make_Next_Start_in_Santa_Ysabel_123#
Does anyone now know exactly what time Chromie’s race will be televised and where one can see it? There was a time mentioned yesterday, then someone said they had moved it until later in the card so I don’t know how to find it now.
Am really looking forward to seeing what their strategy is since he’s drawn the rail. Whatever they have figured out, I hope it makes hit kick butt !! Just LOVE that boy !! Go Chromie, GO !!
It’s now slated for 12:55 PM EST! It will be on TVG and perhaps some streaming services, but I don’t know those details. I’m sure that videos will be posted by TVG and others. Will send a link as soon as I find one.
Dear Judy.I didn’t know stallions returning to the US had to cover a couple of mares to prove they are clear of CEM.Of course War Emblem was having none of that.I am glad he recovered so well from his op.He doesn’t like stalls either so will live in the paddock.I love his quirky character.Heard Northern Spur and Timber Country have died too.RIP.Poor Hudson and her teeth Kathy can sympathsize. So many different times have been posted for Chrome’s race.Goodnight God bless you LM PC HT Cap Hercules Frank Bentley and all the sweeties.Love and hugs SheenaX
I didn’t know that either. I like his attitude too. Hopefully, he will settle down some and enjoy life at Old Friends. RIP Northern Spur and Timber Country. Were they retired or injured while racing?
Poor Kathy. Will let you know how HT makes out. Rooting for CC. Love and Hugs, JB, LM, PC, HT, Frank, Bentley and all the Sweeties
I know I do not do too much posting, but I want you to know, that I always read all yours.
From tomorrow on, I will away for two weeks or maybe less, the reason is I am going for surgery, please wish me luck.
I love you dear friends. Love and hugs Ingrid.
Dear Ingrid,
Praying for your surgery today and for you to be in good health soon. We’ll be looking forward to having you back posting messages again. God’s blessings for
you, with love Elizabeth
Ingrid,
Prayers for successful surgery. Hurry and get well and get back with us. This time of year things are really beginning to get moving for the TC races.
Dear Judy B.,
Both Northern Spur and Timber Country were retired, I think.
Northern Spur was 25 and colic got him; Timber Country was 24 and had heart problems.
NS was in Kentucky, and TC was in Japan. TC’s connections in Japan said they will put a monument up in the Cherry Blossoms Park to honor his memory.
The owners of the farm in Kentucky where NS was referred to him lovingly saying Northern Spur was a gentleman and “the sweetest thing”. Apparently, he liked companionship so they tried to keep a gelding in the paddock with him. He liked people, too.
RIP Northern Spur and Timber Country
RIP Oratory (age 14) who died last week as the result of an accident while recovering from surgery for a nerve condition.
Thank you for answering my question about Timber Country and Northern Spur. Always so sad to lose them. Rest In Peace Timber Country, Northern Spur and Oratory. Love and Hugs, JB
Dear Ingrid,
We will certainly miss you. Sending you heartfelt best wishes for your quick recovery with positive thoughts and prayers for your good health.
@ Sandy–Thanks SO much !! Hope I can find it on something to see it live, but will be happy to see it however I can. Hope he shows ’em all how to run from # 1 and still smoke ’em !!!
I have never been so impressed by a maiden run. He was professional, he was his momma’s boy, he was a “rock star”. Once he learns where the finish line is, lookout competition, he will be gone while the others think he is sleeping in the gate. Great ride Gary Stevens, he did look like he was hosting a Par-tee!
The time has finally arrived to have gardens tilled and fields plowed for spring crops. There will be more cold weather, but that is a part of the cultivation of good crops. Freezing causes the soil to mellow and turn soft and pliable. Robins love the plowing. They follow along and pull earthworms out of the soft dirt. Grandfather always chuckled and said they reminded him of old-time preachers in tails and he liked having them following.
Please don’t miss the simplicity of little things. They will sustain you when all else fails. When our minds only dwell on things for show, it is such a waste-because “show” won’t sustain us when we need comfort and strength.
The roots of a plant go down deep, and the deeper they go the more moisture they find.

Kathy XOXO

Dear Z Fans:

Judy,
I like Exaggerator right now. Know a Curlin can get the distance. But not really too big on any of them yet.

Dear Shirlee:

Sandy (Northeast Ohio)

Dear Sheena:

Marshall (NC Broad)

Dear Marshall:
Thank you for answering my question about Timber Country and Northern Spur. Always so sad to lose them. Rest In Peace Timber Country, Northern Spur and Oratory. Love and Hugs, JB
