Excellent debut from Ziconic. Even with the slow start, it was clear by the end of the race that he had “gotten it.” He showed great turn of foot. This experience will be a great foundation for him going forward. I expect he’ll stretch out to two turns next. I hope we won’t have to wait long.
His turn of foot would be unbelievable if I hadn’t seen it 20 times before by his mom! :) I’ll admit when he first broke and was so far behind, I became a little anxious. But wow he kicked it into gear and seemed to love every step of the way. I truly believe we have ourselves a race horse! A great learning experience for Ziconic and hopefully we won’t have to wait too long before his next start.
Way to go, Ziconic! Did everyone see how far behind he was, just like his Mom, and he came up so fast he almost won the race. What a beautiful son of Zenyatta. Looking forward to his next race.
Yeah, Praise the Lord. So, so Proud. Blessings to all. It is well. Sure the Queen is so Proud. Congrats to the whole team. Am so Happy!!!!. Thanks to all. Good night.
I guess from what Gary Stevens said in the interview after the race, it’s the first time he’s ever come back from finishing third and have a crowd just roaring with joy. I feel bad for the winner; no one was paying attention to him. I wonder if someone at Lane’s End hooked up a link for Zenyatta to watch Her Chestnut Prince debut!
A very exciting debut! Even though a ‘win’ would have been the fairy tale, the way he closed was very impressive and hopefully a promise of things to come. Everything said by Gary Stevens and his connections indicate he enjoyed what he was doing and had a good time, which is the best news of all!!
Totally agree. Am so Happy. I love you all. It is well and will be an exciting year for us and the Queen and her family. Congrats to all the connections.
Congratulations to our Red Prince and all of his connections!! He looked fabulous, and we are thrilled to hear Gary say that Zi enjoyed what he was doing – especially the last part of the race. That is a huge part of being a racehorse.
So wonderful! And after all, John said that he has his mom’s “beam”, so he has got quite an engine! Can’t wait to see him again!!
Could’nt access for ages!I think he could go further. He’d really got the hang of it by the end but you did your mama proud.Well done Ziconic.Love and hugs Sheena
So proud of Ziconic! Wow he looked like his momma coming from behind. He is going to do well this season. He seemed to enjoy himself running. Slow start, but boy did he come on in the end. Congrats to his team!
I still can’t get over how beautiful he is!!! I can stare at his pictures all day long. He did fantastic. Like so many, my heart sank and then, he kicked it into gear and wooosh,,, almost, almost!!!!
I think we might have another Star in the making, here. Good boy, Zi!!
I’m so proud of Ziconic. He had lots of new things to learn today and I bet it was a bit scary. But he remembered what Steve and Mikey taught him. And Gary did a terrific job getting him clear and allowing him to find his way. Zenyatta would be so proud of her son! And he just missed second by a head. It was truly a wonderful first race for him. I just hope Ziconic enjoys this racing thing. Tapit would also be a be proud. And yeah he knows he’s all that.
Lucky enough to be there in person today for Ziconic’s very nice debut. He was good in the paddock, good in the post parade, and walked nicely to the gate. I had not expected him to win, but was surprised and overjoyed, when after a slow break and being way back (over 10 lengths), he made up ground, overtaking a horse in the far turn, then Gary swung him to the outside and he came running with that rear end action of his dam. He was looking at the grandstand as he came down the stretch and Gary hit him a couple of times. He crossed the wire closing to get third and galloped out strong, passing everyone in the field. Team Ziconic should be very pleased with his first performance. He’s a nice balanced colt, not as big as his dam, but more compact, doesn’t have her long stride, but seems to have her drive down the stretch. We’re going to have some fun watching this guy. I’m sure he’ll go two turns next start as he needs room to motor. Overheard part of the conversation between Gary and John after the race as they walked back to the paddock area. Gary said he got a lot of dirt in his face and it didn’t seem to bother him. Every race for a young horse is a learning experience and this colt just graduated from 1st grade.
He’s got his mother’s engine, he’s got her style, now we can only hope that he has her sense of where the wire is & a record that comes close to hers. Congratulations to you, the Mosses, John, Dottie, Mario & all who care for you so well.
It brought tears to my eyes (and I’m sure to many others). Stay safe, beautiful boy!
I think we’ve got something quite beautiful here…..an exciting debut and a racehorse who is going to do his wonderful Mommy proud…. Not ZZenyatta, but in her footsteps to be sure!
Thrilling! I could not be more proud even if he had won. To me he did win. His gallop out was awesome. He was like : Hey I just got going. And so happy for a safe, clean race for his first. Way to go Ziconic and the team.
The beginning of Ziconic’s racing career is awesome! Congratulations on such a great race. Loved that Gary was able to be in this race also. Thank you Team Z for Chapter 2 in Zenyatta’s family. Zenny, you and your boys are so amazing! with love, Elizabeth

He trailed off and for awhile I was worried he’d not catch up. He ran green but closed impressively.

Nice to see the management of Ziconic are bringing him up slowly. Well done!

Wow! Go Ziconic! And galloping out he was in front! \o/ If the race had just been longer he would’ve gotten there cause he was FLYING in the stretch.
Show big half brother how it’s done, Zi! Bet momma’s proud!
