Happy Friday!
During our June trip to Lane’s End Farm, we spent a morning with Ziconic and some of the people who oversee his training at the farm. Todd Claunch, Assistant Manager of Lane’s End, and Yearling Manager Peter Sheehan explained the ins and outs of the yearling prep process, which Ziconic started at the beginning of June.
Ziconic enjoys his morning work and the attention he receives. The staff at Lane’s End lovingly refers to him as Z, just like his mom.
In the video below you’ll hear Todd and Peter in conversation with Ann Moss as Ziconic and other yearlings work out in the farm’s walker.
Enjoy!

Holy moly! What a beauty!! All 3 of Zenyatta’s babies are a sight to behold. You can always tell when a stallion has stamped his get, but this time Zen has stamped hers. Even though Zi is a chestnut, Momma shines through. Thanks for sharing! ♥

July 19 Cherokee Devotional
It began at dusk, a walk along the edge of the alfalfa field, with a chorus of crickets and the soft rumble of thunder in the distance. A doe stood spellbound with curiosity. Motionless but ready for flight, she watched and waited. The ridges and ravines have not lost their beauty since our grandfathers hunted game and left their arrowheads for later generations. They walked here in the mist, and watched a break in the clouds shoot rose-red color to make rainbows-lovely muted colors with no defined edges. The reflections and subtle shadows hung on until dark snuffed them into a deep, blue haze. The land is wild and beautiful with ancient oaks that could testify to many events. The great horned owl could tell us how its hoot was mimicked by our grandfathers-and how it answered.
We will never let our hold to this land go…for it would be like throwing away…(our) mother…that gave us birth.

I’m starting to wonder whether this boy is going to grey out, looking at all those white hairs mixed in at his hip, or if there’s something else causing it. Loving his bend or spots.

@ Max….
I know about one sister to WD…..Enchanting Lisa….who is the second? would like to keep track of her too…
Max
Carol. Her name is Afleeting Lisa. She’s 2 and has not raced yet. Last I heard, she was spending her time enjoying herself at LoPresti’s farm. He’s try ing to get her out of the paddock and onto the track. Maybe later this year.
Ann NC
Norman will put her on a good path.
Best of luck to the sisters.
Ashton
Enchanting Lisa is a half sister. Casino Dan is a half brother and runs to day in race 9 at the Spa. Also racing in race 9 Battle Force, trained by John Shirreffs and owned by W Farish.

Dear Sheena:
Wow, wonderful to learn so many facts about these beautiful birds. I understand now why Deri and Gwynant remained so quiet and still while they were being ringed. They were doing what Mom was telling them to do. Fascinating, beautiful birds. Thank you. I’m wondering if the chicks at the ball field here are doing as well as D and G. I hope so. Godspeed on your journey Deri and Gwynant.
Love Al Kazeem. Hope he came out of the race OK. Love and Hugs, JB
Max
JudyB and Sheena. Just checked. Al was fourth and not too far back. Charlton says that Al is a bit overweight still and needs more time to get in form. He’s only been back in training since May. Charlton said that the race will do Al some good and they expect improvement. Jockey said that Al seemed relaxed in the post parade and happy to be back racing.

Coz will always be especially precious to me because he is the first and I was a nervous wreck worrying about her foaling. Zi will always be especially precious to me because I was a nervous wreck worrying about her foaling. Z Princess will always be especially precious to me because I was a nervous wreck worrying about her foaling. Do you detect a pattern here? I love Zenny so much and each of her offspring will always be the best. Someday someone will write the story of the racing dynasty known as Zenyatta Nation.

The phenomenal AP McCoy has ridden into the record books with a double at Market Rasen today. Now on 4,193 winners 2 more than his friend and mentor Martin Pipe he’s looking towards 4,500!It’s a Gimme had to be treated for exhaustion after his win,it was a very humid day,not exactly jumps weather. He was reported to be well.Congrats AP a gentleman of the sport.Free the Moose.Niss4PM.Sheena.
Max
Sheena. AP is modest too. He never calls attention to myself, unlike some other riders who think that the jockey wins a horse race. I hope that the horse who was treated for exhaustion is okay. If it’s too hot and humid here, they often cancel races.
Free the Moose! Stay cool Moosie.

Ziconic is stunning! He’s such a handsome fellow, I love his three white socks and his blaze. I can just picture him now, in his stall snoring and running in his sleep. Too cute! You done good, Zenyatta!!

Dear Max
I noticed on the owners name today at Saratoga on one of the horses in the first race was the Wiertheimers. Didn’t catch the name of the horse Wonder if that was the famous Wiertheimers. They were in partnership with another owner.
Max
Peggy. That horse would be Kamarius. He’s owned by Wertheimer and Frère. That is the two brothers Wertheimer. Frère is the French word for brother.
.
Peggy (N) South Georgia
That was the horse that won I think Kamarius. Beautiful horse. I just remembered the flash of name when in the post parade. Great race. Was in and out on that race.
Thanks again for the info.
