Happy Friday!
During our June trip to Lane’s End Farm, we spent a morning with Ziconic and some of the people who oversee his training at the farm. Todd Claunch, Assistant Manager of Lane’s End, and Yearling Manager Peter Sheehan explained the ins and outs of the yearling prep process, which Ziconic started at the beginning of June.
Ziconic enjoys his morning work and the attention he receives. The staff at Lane’s End lovingly refers to him as Z, just like his mom.
In the video below you’ll hear Todd and Peter in conversation with Ann Moss as Ziconic and other yearlings work out in the farm’s walker.
Enjoy!

Great post and video! Zi looks amazing and seems to like his training which is a very good sign for his future progress. Thanks Teaqm Z for yet another update. We can never get enough of Zenny and her offspring.

Ziconic is a very well put together horse who seems to enjoy his training. I suspect we will be impressed with his racing career because he has that look about him that shows confidence and intelligence. Of course with The Queen as his mom he’s already a leg up as they say.
vicki
That face! That butt! That color! He’s looking at Ann as if to say ‘Are you talking to me?” Look out the Z’s are coming.

Vicki, you are so right. Zi absolutely knows who he is and what a camara is all about and he sure can play to it. Ann is a true horse whisperer…they are putty in her hands (as it should be LOL).

It’s hard to pick which of her three kids is more impressive looking. I love every shot of Princess Z — she looks so strong and smart, but the footage of Ziconic is amazing. I do think Ziconic was my favorite newborn (from the photos). Can’t forget Coz, of course. Thanks to Team Z for taking us backstage and for keeping the photos and video coming!

Love this colt much better than his brother, Coz is nice, dont get me wrong..but i think this was a much better pairing and a much better resulting foal. tho little sis will trump them both and kick their butts on the track!
Jan
Love your comment!!!!! LOL! Can’t wait to see the little miss grow up…what a family!
This guy has one of the most handsome faces I’ve ever seen!
Morgan Morris
Lookat him flag that tail like an arab, and that face too! Hes so stylish and classy, what an amazing colt. Built with muscle yet sleek. Has spunk, but knows how to control himself. Ready and willing for work, and excited to play. Hes going to be such an amazing colt one day.

What can I say? I’m still awed by the Moss’s largess at sharing Z and her family’s progress with us out here in cyberland. I was tickled at the prospect of Zenny’s breeding to Tapit, who I adore and look what we’ve got! Ziconic! So far he exemplifies Tapit’s strong qualities blended with Zenny’s and I am so anxious to see him really run. He is just lovely and seems to have a pretty good head on his shoulders too.
Thanks again Team Z for sharing with us.

Absolutely stunning!!! Thank You Z Team for the updates. I’m learning a lot too.

Beautiful, beautiful boy!! How we love you already. You are so special. It just amazes me that Zenny is so perfect in everything: training, racing, crowd handling, mothering, and now training her own before the humans take over their part. Just impeccable. Thank you so very much for sharing.

Forgot to say that it was new to me about the hind end growing first and the withers having to catch up. We learn something every day. Thanks for that tidbit.

Yowsers!!! Thanks Team Z and LE for the info on their early training. I remember the walker from when Coz was at that stage. I have goose bumps just thinking about what we can look forward too in the following years!
I don’t really have a favorite, they’re all special in their own way but, I must say, Zi is one hunk of a dude!!
Pat
Z looks to be a lot like Secretariat. He is beautiful and full of life and adventure will do well in training has a lot of help from mom Z and dad Tapit.

Love that flagged tail showing he’s a happy boy. What a cutie pie he is! The video was a nice treat. Thanks for keeping us in the Zenyatta family loop…

He’s gorgeous…!
You guys deserve some credit, too. A horse can only be as sound in mind as his trainer.
carol
He’s all class (like mom)

Ziconic certainly brings to mind another famous chestnut with three white stockings and white on the face! Thanks, Lane’s End!

Thank you for this wonderful and informative video. This is just the kind of thing we like to see.
I must say, Cozmic One is pretty special and “our firsts born” but Ziconic!!! Wow, what a fabulous horse he is too.

Stunning is right…Z is certainly that. He looks like he wants to do more and more. I loved the part of Z dreaming of his derby and Ann’s comment was so precious, like a proud mama..’so be it’! Love the blog so much.

Absolutely beautiful pictures and video…so much a part of their lives…Thank you for keeping their lives open to us. It is great to be a part of their journey. Zenny has given birth to 3 amazing babies…so looking forward to their time on the tracks.
Would like to know though…what are Coz’s measurements? Will he be staying at Belmont and the east coast? Will we see him at Saratoga for 2 year olds?
Thank you for your information. Please keep it coming.
Sue Fredrick Happy as a lark
Thanks to the Mosses, Z team and LE staff for this great video…….what a TREAT. He is so beautiful, and it seems very promising, but so is CoZ, I wouldn’t be so fast in putting ZI in front of CoZ, John had plenty to say about CoZ’s confirmation on an HRTV video and he said he really liked what he saw. I love all three, they are different but I won’t put any of them down. To see these videos and pictures just blows my mind that we have such access to Zennys private life. Thank you so much.

Dear Sue:
I totally agree. I love Z and all of her babies equally. COZ is the first born Prince; so he is very special, but they are all very special; all individuals; all beautiful. We are indeed so lucky to have this Blog. Love and Hugs, JB

My feelings too Sue! Love all three of the kids – won’t sell anyone short!

Ziconic is a HUNK and a HALF! I could look at him all day long. God’s perfection!!!
Kailyn
There is a horse in the back ground when Ziconic is getting the girth put on him its a chestnut horse it looks
like English Channel but I might be wrong does anybody know if it is English Channel or just another young colt?

Thank you Mr. & Mrs. Moss, Team Z, Team Lane’s End, Queen Zenyatta and Ziconic for this special posting!
Ziconic, you are so very handsome, and you have such lovable ears. What a hambone you are: running while looking straight into the camera lens…Clever boy…you knew your godmothers and godfathers would adore that photo!!!!!
Zenyatta, your babies are all so regal and self-possessed. You have done an excellent job of teaching them they are very special!!!!
Love to All,

“…..dreaming like he’s running in the Derby!” You heard it first – Ziconic in the Derby.

All Zenny’s babies are gorgeous. It is such a thrill to see them as they grow into maturity.
Looking forward to seeing all of them run.

Yearling dogs grow that way as well. Hind end first then front end. Grew up with horses, now at 80, living with large dogs. Love to read everything about Z and her babies, what a thrill!!
suewVa
Those ears, those fabulous ears…they are Zenny’s stamp on all her kids and I love them!
