Happy Friday!
It’s the time of year when kids go back to school and Ziconic is no exception. This week, he was among a group of yearlings that left Lane’s End to begin their training in Ocala, FL.
Ziconic has settled in at Mayberry Farm, where he’ll soon learn basics like how to carry a rider. We hear from Jeanne that he’s in Coz’s old stall at the end of the row, and he’s even made friends with Daisy the cat.
Last year we introduced you to Jeanne, April, and Jackie from Mayberry Farm and shared quite a bit about Coz’s early training. If you missed it and would like to read more before our next Ziconic update, start here and here.
Scroll down for more photos and a video of Ziconic’s departure from Lane’s End.
Enjoy!

@Ann NC–thanks for the gorgeous picture of Coz.

I have to admit I am exhausted! Between college football-Go Aggies and the racing I was on excitement overload! So worried about Rajiv it looked awful when it happened and then for Mikey to fly off onto the turf I was super worried. I understand the concept of race riding but I always thought it meant how you were going to place your own mount not how you can try to take down a champion. Adore Zi bangs. I hope he gets to keep them. All is well at home. Fall Fest Celebration next weekend and our book sale. Hope the weather stays good. Though last year it rained and everyone came to the fire hall and we raised more money than ever. Saw the most beautiful Appaloosa this morning staked out grazing in someone front yard. Pure white with black spots and white mane and tail. Take care everyone.

Dear Max.I’ve just bought Hovis’ new book.I’m sure you can get one in the ROTW and,as you know, all the proceeds go to Bransby.I’m certain we’ll hear all about the autumn fayre on Friday.AOB is thinking of entering Chiquita in the Arc,if you remember she sold for 6 million euros last year.I hadn’t realized she’d been bought by Coolmore everyone thought it had been the Qatari royal family who had purchased her.I should have realised she is a daughter of Montjeu.AOB has many options for the classics next year too with Ol’ Man River winning nicely yesterday and we’ve not seen Sir Isaac Newton yet.You must be excited about the most interesting horse in the world running on Saturday. He will kick butt as you say!!!The Moose will be free soon!!Sheena.
Max
Sheena. Thanks for this news. Did not know any of it. Sue Magnier sure hangs some major league names on Coolmore horses. One of the best things that Coolmore ever did was to sell the daddy of the most interesting horse in the world to Morton Fink.
Danny Boy, kick butt, but try to avoid doing it to Uncle Johnny during the race.
Free the Moose! It’s been long enough.

Dear Max:
Hope Danny heeds your very good advice. Love and Hugs, JB

Wow, Ziconic is so gorgeous!! Thank you so much for the pictures and the video, Team Z. It’s hard to believe our little boy is all grown up!
A very happy Belated Birthday to our Grand Poobah Terry Crow. I hope it was a good one, Terry! My Wildcats won their first SEC game in 2 years on Saturday, Terry. Hoofray!
I’m really looking forward to this weekend. I’m going to Keeneland with fellow Dumplings Janet and Sandy. I went to the sales the weekend before last with Dumpling Dawn and we tracked down Wise Dan. They wouldn’t let us touch him, but we worshipped him from afar. He’s simply stunning. I hope he does good Saturday. And the BC is right around the corner. Woo hoo! I love this time of year.

Dear Debbie G:

THANK YOU Z TEAM AND LANE’S ENDfor the incredible photos and video of Ziconic!!! I think he embodies absolute PERFECTION in a horse!! I am madly in love with the boy and am so excited to see him fulfill his destiny! I believe he is truly one for the ages!!
Someday,I hope to be able to meet him and tell him how very special he has been to me ever since his birth. I bought the wonderful picture of him running along with Z under the spring trees,as soon as it hit the shop and I just love it!
We lucked out this weekend and were able to ride both mornings, even though it rained later in both days, and during the nights. Barnaby loves his house (and, has taught Traveller to love hers too),so he stayed dry,as did she,and we were able to saddle them up each morning. Yesterday, they both became aware of something in the next pasture over that worried them and they were both on “high alert”. I finally had to get off of Barnaby as he kept stopping to stare at the pasture and was doing his “elevator shoes” thing, where he seems to pull himself up to 17 hands!! After we brushed them and turned them loose to eat their hay,we went down to the end of the field to see if we could see or hear anything and couldn’t. Don’t know if it was an animal they smelled or if they were aware of some hunters we couldn’t see or hear, but they were so gorgeous tearing around and snorting, ears pricked and nostrils flaring! When Barnaby saw me head down there,he left his hay to come thundering after me!! It was thrilling to have him galloping after me and then to stop and come up to me so gently.@ TC-Belated Happy Birthday to you!! I surely hope you will be at the BC this year–I will be there both days this time and I was so sorry to have missed meeting you last year!!
Zenny, hope you and Princess have a peaceful night and hope you know your boys are safe and loved in their new homes. Love you forever, beautiful girl!! .

Peace like a river. Think it, feel it, see it flow in smooth currents that will not toss the smallest boat. Stress can raise the blood pressure. It can make our ears roar and our hearts race with panic. Stop, and say, “Peace. Be still.” This has always worked to calm the storms. Some people need stress to feel they are competing successfully. Instead of quietly doing good work, they a di sv s di, scuffle or wrestle with imagined competitors and hidden foes. Stress is holding rigid opinions, but peace, to hi dv, is a river with the power to make energy enough to push a city-or heal a body.
Our hearts rejoice in the goodness of our Creator in having…united the heart and hand of the red man in peace.

TC,
Belated Happy Birthday. You are missed but we understand that things get complicated at times. Take care and know we are thinking of you.
Also, what is going on with the tails of these 2 year olds? Ziconic is a little challenged in this area, Jess’s Dream needs extension and American Pharoah was missing about half of his. They even commented on it on TV. Said Bob told them his tail was like that when he came to their barn and nobody confessed to knowing anything about it.
Judy Berube From Rhode Island

You have me laughing out loud, “needs extensions”. Love and Hugs, JB

Dear Kathy.Too much stress in this modern-day society.Life seemed to pass more slowly years ago.I have been reading some sad stories of neglect on Zoe’s page today. The blind dog and little Sasha the maltese mix and then the horrific story of Charlotte but thank God she is a little fighter and seems to be improving. My God,what I’d love to do to that owner!!!
Good news from Joey. A rescue is going to see up a memorial fund in his name and Theba plus Tom will be at the golf tournament on sunday.Joey lives on in the hearts of others. If only all dogs had the same lifestyle as Boo guarding the cookie jar!Marty was enjoying his chocolate last night, seems it’s good for his respiratories!!Mango had a late delivery last night and will be opening her mail this morning on da swing!Brutus in speedos! Not a good idea!Have a great day.Hugs to you,Kisses for Holly,Nikko and Sugar.Sheena.
Max
Sheena. What is this news of Al going to the Arc? Love that Welsh wonder. I’m hoping that he kicks the butts of all of the favorites, and takes it. Go for it, Al.
Free the Moose!
Kathy
Dear Sheena,
The stories of neglect on Zoe’s page are truly haunting. You’re right…we just need five minutes alone with the horrible people responsible. That’s wonderful that such great works will be done in our Joey’s name. Very fitting memorials. Boo with one eye on the cookie jar was so adorable. Boo does live in the lap of luxury. Apparently so does Marty. I’ll have to remember that chocolate is good for the respiratories! lol Goes a long way in assuaging our guilt! Mango always makes us smile. Such a sweet little girl. Very loved. Speedos on a dog. Too funny! Have a good day. Hugs from me, kisses from Holly, Nikko and Sugar. Kathy.

Dear Zenny,
And so number two son is off to horse school. You must be so proud of him, and as you know, we all think he is absolutely gorgeous. It seems like just yesterday when he made an appearance in the waning moments of your own birthday! He captured our hearts, and we are so excited to see him now – all grown up (well, not really but . . . ) – and headed off to the next phase of his life. Many thanks to everyone on Team Z for keeping us in the loop and to everyone at Lane’s End for taking such good care of him. Can’t wait for the first Florida update. Take care Zenny – give the Princess a little nuzzle from all of us. ♥♥♥
Lots of love from your Ohio friend Sandy.

Dear Max.I have just heard about Al Kazeem racing in the Arc.I shall have to support the pride of Wales and Taghrooda, of course.William Buick is riding Ivanhowe.remember he beat STM in what was his last race.Sizing Europe is back this Saturday, won’t be an easy race for him and he’s got an 18yr old jockey Johnny Burke.I pray he’ll be safe would hate anything to happen to him at this stage of his career.Missing you, Moose it’s time you were free! Sheena.
Max
Sheena. I’m hoping that Al has more luck with the draw this year. It can make a lot of difference. Nothing against Tagi, but Al is my choice. He’s an exceptionally handsome fellow. Let’s hope that Doyle brings it if he’s aboard. Will young Joe be able to make the weight if Chiquita runs?
Heard also that Jezki is back from his hols. He’s going for hurdles. The Fly will probably go up to 3 miles. Nothing yet on Moose’s unrequited love, Annie Power.
Moose, break free from that beak.
sheena.davies(wales)
Dear Max.I had always hoped Australia would go for the arc but he’ll be at Champions day on October 18th plus GG is running as well!!Maybe Annie Power will go for Quevega’s old longer distance hurdles races. It’s going to be an exciting weekend both sides of the pond.Dave’s big speech tomorrow!Free the Moose!Sheena.
Max
Sheena. A mile and a half is a little long for Australia or am I wrong about that? It’s probably better for him to skip the Arc. That race can be trouble for a young horse. Look what it did to Nijinsky. Charlton said that Al’s going because Al has nothing to lose or prove, and that distance seems to suit him. Hope so. Al is a lovely horse. Glad that he’s still racing. Hope that CDA does well in the Prix Dollar. Trainer says that he’s as cheeky as ever. No scarf is off limits if CDA is nearby.
Moose, make a bolt for freedom.
sheena.davies(wales)
Dear Judy.No news of Speedy again today.Summer said on FB Binga threw up all over the new rug she couldn’t believe it had taken 3 months for someone to be sick!Tiggy has finished for the season, she will not be going for the Abbaye.Look forward to seeing her next year.Goodnight God bless you LM PC HT Little Cap Hercules Frank TD Boo and all the Sweeties.SheenaX

Dear Sue Noel
Thank-you for your Barnaby story, loved hearing about your time together.
Dear Judy,
Have watched the post open house listings at Suffolk Downs as you know.
It is not easy, but see so many sold and am hoping for good homes for the remaining ones.So many volunteers doing their best, and you are doing a great job.
It is not easy and yet such a blessing to see the photos and read about each one, know their personality and hear about them. One example is “It is clear that this sweet girl isn’t a racehorse(she is a TB but not placing). She is intelligent, nice to be around,
friendly and curious-she came right over to the volunteers to say hi when she came out for her photo shoot.” etc etc,so many good horses ,some of whom will race again but many whose owners say they deserve to be retired, they do not want to run (common comment), have an injury…Many are fit and able and just need a new career. I am praying for all the horses who don’t excel on the track but who have attributes that would make them an excellent horse in another career.Good to see so many people trying to rehome them. As for those that like to run,it is a pleasure to watch and I have nothing but admiration for them.
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear debbie s:
Yes, the people at Canter, owners, trainers and volunteers are doing all they can to find these beautiful horses good, caring homes. Saturday’s Open House did place quite a few; but, there are still more horses needing homes. Hoping and praying all will be placed. Love and Hugs, JB
