She delivered a healthy colt by Tapit at 11:47 pm EST on Monday April 1. Estimated at 145 lbs, he is a leggy chestnut with a white blaze similar to Zenyatta’s. Eager to start his new life, he was standing on his own by 12:18 am and nursing within an hour.
Both are doing so very well, and it’s a joy to see how much Zenyatta loves being a mom.
Thank you to all of the fans who have been following The Queen and sending good wishes and blessings. It worked!
We can’t wait to spend the day with little 13Z tomorrow, and there will be many more pictures to come!

12Z’s sire is Bernardini. 13Z’s sire is Tapit. It’s “by” the stallion and “out of” the mare, BTW. Otherwise–ouch!
You can visit Lane’s End during the summer, but you only visit the stallions. Tours do not include visits to the mares.

Was out with my dogs one last time Apr. 1 and witnessed a fabulous meteor, brilliant white and big, streaking a long way across the sky. Noted the time when we got indoors and it was 12:48 p.m. This evening when I realized how close that was to the time of 13Z’s birth, got goosebumps. If you believe in omens, that’s a pretty cool one.

I love this remarkable horse and followed her career closely. What she did on the racetrack was simply sensational. I hope everyone appreciates thoroughbred horses, owners, jockeys and vendors for all the hard work they put into the industry and maybe the ordinary people can spend a Saturday at the races and watch the horses go around and maybe they will see a champion.
