Happy Friday!
Zenyatta’s first filly was weaned last week. Everything went well, and they are both happily adjusting to independence. Z Princess, now in a new barn and paddock, is quite at home with her familiar group of foals. We’re excited to see this little one grow up!
Meanwhile, Zenyatta has been relaxing with her fellow mares and even hosting some special guests. A crew from NBC came to visit The Queen yesterday. We don’t want to give away any secrets, but we can share this cute shot of Zenyatta giving them some help!
Enjoy!

Dear Sheena and Z Fans:
Yes, thank you all again for your prayers for Dubai. He’s such a little love. I didn’t want to disturb him while he was eating, so I put my face up to the stall bars and he put his nose there and I gave him a kiss. Love and Hugs, JB

@Judy B.–thanks for the good report on Dubai and also for the photos of Ash and friends.
@Debbie s.–thanks for the story about Ash. Hugs to you both.
Congrats to the most interesting horse in the world (besides Zenny, of course). Wise Dan, you are amazing. I loved the look over into the next gate, as if to say, “What’cha doin’ over there? Oh, we’re going now. Oops!”
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear Barb W:
You’re so welcome. Love your comments to Danny. Love and Hugs, JB

Barbara,
Thanks for the laugh. Dan just wanted to make sure everyone else was ready to go. Proud of Grand Arch and his second place finish.
Max
The most interesting horse in the world seemed to be on a mission. Dan possibly let the other horses get a good head start so that he could methodically kick each and every butt. He started kicking individually until near the last, when he kicked the remaining four all at once. Looked like he might have had some kicking left to do in the winner’s circle. Next race?
Great performance.
Ann NC
So funny. Dan kept us all on the edge of our seats with that gate move. Never a dull moment with, Dan!
Max
Ann NC. For sure. Dan runs his own show and it is seldom the same. Can’t ever use a pacemaker with Dan. He would kick that butt too. Like they said at Woodbine, Dan is a superb athlete. He always wants to devour the competition. He’s no pony with Uncle Johnny either. Kick butt Danny.
Peggy (N) South Georgia
Congratulations to Treve.
Goldship, I’m so sorry you lost. You sure did look beautiful. Such a pretty gray you are.
Have a good trip home. Hope Orfevre is well.
Rose Edwards(Quarterhossgal)
Congrats to my favorite “race” gelding Wise Dan! Just love to see him run and win.
Hope his streak continues through the Breeder’s Cup. What a comeback for a 7 year old after coiic surgery, He is one very special horse.

October 6 Cherokee Devotional
Think for a moment of beautiful things-a bouquet of zinnias, red, yellow, and lilac. Think of laughing brown eyes and a vapor trail in a rose-colored sunset. Think of puppies rolling and tumbling on the grass and the laughter of children at play. See in your mind’s eye the brilliant skyline of the city at night-think of good books, excellent music, a warm friendly smile, and hot apple cobbler with thick cream. Think of lovely things you may have forgotten-the si gi gi, the katydid singing in the night, a full moon glistening on crystal clear water, cheerful voices, happy prayers. When we think of these things it makes us have faith, u wo hi yu ha, that we will have them again.
Why do you ask us to leave the rivers, and the sun, and the wind, and live in houses?

Dear Kathy.A perfect devotional today.Indeed, why do we need houses and be surrounded by “stuff”!!I hear from Boo there is a heatwave(loved their sunspecs)It’s typically autumnal over here now, cleared after heavy overnight rain.Loved the videos of Mango swimming, she may gain some strength in her legs. What a lovely thought to put her birthday money towards a cart for her friend Cindy! She really has a heart of gold.I heard about a Syrian ambulance driver who is feeding the abandoned cats in Aleppo. In the midst of horror there is kindness.A joy to see.
Poor Marty is hiding until the dreaded day is over,he’s so proud of his state plates.I saw a message from Dolly, poor mummy is very stressed.Gosh,Treve amazed us all with her performance yesterday, never dreamt of her winning back-to-back Arc’sTaghrooda ran well too .It’s a pity we will not see her as a 4yr old.I wonder who they’ll be mated with?
would love to see Treve visit Sea The Stars.Remember your sock!!!Love and hugs to you,Kisses for Holly Nikko and Sugar.Sheena.

Peekaboo: whose lovely ears do I see…It is the radiant Z Princess. Glad to hear the weaning process was easy on both Queen and Princess!!!! Our Queen is such a big help!!!!
Thanks to Mr. & Mrs. Moss, Team Zenyatta, and Team Lane’s end for keeping us involved.
Take care, and Love to All,
Mary
Kathy
Dear Sheena,
I guess all of CA is hot right now. Boo and Buddy looked very fashion-forward in their designer sunglasses. Mango swimming was wonderful to watch. She probably will gain strength in her legs. Swimming is wonderful exercise. Yes, I had tears in my eyes over Mango donating her money so Cindy can have a cart. So touching! That’s a wonderful story about the ambulance driver feeding the cats. About the time we’re ready to give up on humans we hear a story like that to renew our faith.Marty is one smart rat. Hiding on Mondays is the right idea! Feel so bad for Dolly’s mom. It would be horrible to live in that area. Hope they stay safe! Congratulations to Treve and also Taghrooda. Always sad to see their racing careers end. On to the job of broodmare. Have a wonderful day and week. Hugs and love from me, kisses from Holly, Nikko and Sugar, Kathy.

This is for Sandy, Debbie, and Sandy’s friend Carol but will be of interest to everybody. It’s Zenyatta’s 2009 Classic, but with camera work different from what we usually see in the ESPN footage. In particular, you can see the monster move she makes at about 1:47 where she drops her head and kicks into high gear. (This move is obscured by a camera cut on the ESPN footage.)
Enjoy!

Thanks for the promised link Laura! This is just amazing to see, and your eagle eye picked up on something not visible in the more widely viewed version. She was determined with a capital D! Wish you could have joined us at Keeneland yesterday – maybe next time. It was very cold and windy but an awesome experience :-)

Good morning, Debbie! You’re more than welcome. Have a wonderful day.

Dear LauraJ
Thank-you for the footage of Zenyatta running in the 2009 Breeder’s Cup.
I love to watch Zenny’s races over and over, always a thrill. Her come from behind runs with such power and determination make us believe in the impossible. Mike taking her inside and then coming wide to win the 2009 Breeder’s Cup was an amazing-she did it her way! At the end she looked so powerful, like she was just getting started! The stands shook. Her courageous run in the 2010 Breeder’s Cup was another testament to her depth and talent and formidable spirit.
I looked at a replay of the Eclipse Awards for Horse of the Year for 2010 this morning and loved the final words that Jerry Moss read in his acceptance speech. They were written by Pricilla Clarke and go something like this,”It was the light in her being as well as the thrill of her racing that sets us dancing”.Zenyatta continues her magic in who she is and through her offspring. I feel so lucky to be able to follow her through the kindness and generosity of the Moss’s.Team Zenyatta and Lane’s End. Her light shines ever stronger and she continues to make the world a better place. Love you Zenny.

I still get the goosebumps all over to the tip of my head every time I watch Zenyatta’s BC Classic against the boys. I love you Zenyatta:) Your the best.
Barbara Wood
@lauraj–thanks for the video. One for the ages. I understand you all had a good time at Keeneland. Wish more of us could have been there too.
lauraj_cincinnati
@ Barbara, glad you liked the video. I prefer this one to the usual version–the ESPN broadcast cut to a different camera angle at the most inopportune time, IMO.
I didn’t actually make it to Keeneland, but was able to join Sandy, Debbie G., and Sandy’s friend Carol for dinner in Lexington Saturday evening. I’m on the south side of Cincinnati, so Lexington is a reasonable drive for me. It was well worth the effort–we had a great time.
I’m going to Keeneland later in the month.

Team Z, please give us more access to Z Princess as a weanling and yearling than we had for Ziconic. I really missed seeing him mature into a beautiful yearling. Loved seeing Coz as he changed from colt to big boy.
Don Lindburg
Zenyatta made a racing fan out of me. Friends treated me to the races at Del Mar one day, to see her very first race. I was hooked when Z did her traditional come-from-behind victory. I had the great privilege of seeing nearly every one of the races in her 19-win streak. From time to time I watch her video, still thrilled anew by this majestic creature. Her statuette is prominently displayed in my living room.
tony
Don, I’m right there with you, Zenny was a thrill a minute and there will never be another like her.
vicki
Wise Dan. That said it all for me this weekend. What a horse. Three time horse of the year if all goes well despite the running of the Classic. Game on Dude to Old Friends. Plus Amazombie. Hope lots of people go to see him and give him tons of attention. Dear llittle Prinzess. Amazing Ziconic. When Coz hits the track I shall probably need a defibulator nearby. Perhaps Zenny could do some public service announcements during her resting period or pose for equine beauty products. Better yet she could just relax, roll in the mud and watch the replays of her amazing victories on a big screen. She’s given us so much. I know we all just want her to have happiness and good health.

Message for Judy B in Rhode Island:
Your pics were really neat and I especially gravitated to the English Cream Golden? Was it yours? My 13 year old Golden passed away two years this coming Christmas and the one in your photos had the expression I was looking for. Thanks a bunch…bmwcruzor@bellsouth.net.

I have been thinking about you and Sir and saying prayers for you both.

Dear Zsters, My heart is so heavy with Sir being put to rest. I lost my best horse friend.
Becky allowed three of us to go see Sir yesterday as Oct 6th was approaching. He was thrilled seeing us and perked up but I otherwise could see how thin he had become even though Becky said she was feeding him so much senior feed.
I guess I will not have any more stories to tell of Sir. It is hard to let go, I loved him so. Ann, the communicator said she had been in contact with Sir explaining everything to him so he would not be frightened.
She wanted us to know that Sir would be with us in spirit. Ann also stated Sir said he was ready to go. Becky sent an email stating Sir was buried up by a hill.
My last words to Sir were “Come and meet me at the Rainbow Bridge when it is my time, so I can ride you and my dogs will be by our side, I love you Sir”.
A poem sent to me by a friend
Somewhere….Somewhere in times Own Space
There must be some sweet pastoral place
Where creeks sing on and tall trees grow
Some Paradise where horses go
For by the love that guides my pen
I know great horses live again. by Stanley Harrison
Please say a prayer and blessing for dear Sir.
love n hugs, Sally B

My prayers and thoughts go out to you and to Sir; Rest In Peace beautiful Chestnut boy. Love and Hugs, JB

Marshall (NC Broad)
Dear Sally B.,
This is news that none of us wanted to hear. My heart breaks for you, and I will certainly say a prayer and a blessing for sweet Sir. Hold fast to the lovely memories you have and find some comfort there. You were the best blessing to Sir, and he knew you loved him.
My prayers, tears and sympathy to you, dear friend. Rest in Peace, beautiful Sir. You will be sorely missed.
Sympathy to your colleagues, too, Sally. I am glad that the three of you got to see Sir and say good-bye. At least he was happy one last time.
Much Love and Warm Hugs

Dear Sally,
I’m so sorry and can only echo what others have said – you were his angel. The last phase of Sir’s life was so much better because of your love and understanding. He will be waiting for you – remember him at his best. Love and hugs from Ohio.
