Happy Friday!
Zenyatta’s first filly was weaned last week. Everything went well, and they are both happily adjusting to independence. Z Princess, now in a new barn and paddock, is quite at home with her familiar group of foals. We’re excited to see this little one grow up!
Meanwhile, Zenyatta has been relaxing with her fellow mares and even hosting some special guests. A crew from NBC came to visit The Queen yesterday. We don’t want to give away any secrets, but we can share this cute shot of Zenyatta giving them some help!
Enjoy!

Dear Kathy.Gosh,we had a stormy night a couple of tornadoes in the midlands(England)Thank God it’s calmed down today.Houston we have a problem with Marty’s engines,he needs help!!Mango was a lucky girl yesterday getting more onesies and pants to keep her warm in the winter!Brutus looks a huge dog the sissys better be careful.Mia looked so sweet in her pj’s ready for bed and the whole family together were so cute.I had to laugh at someone describing the photo of Ray as “cousin It”We used to love the Addams Family over here much preferred the TV series to the films.Joey continues to think of his fans from Heaven with his advice for Halloween.Poor Zoe has lost another friend she said Lily would be there to greet her.Have a great day.Love and hugs to you,Kisses for Holly,Nikko and Sugar.Sheena.
Kathy
Dear Sheena,
Glad to hear your weather has calmed down. Sounds scary! Sounds like Marty’s space adventures are quite harrowing. Perhaps he should come back to earth! I worry about Mango with that big dog so near. I think Mango’s moms will have to build a new wardrobe to hold all her little clothes. Mia, Max, Zoey, Bailey and Zeus. There’s just something about poms. Adorable little foxes all! Ray as “cousin It.” Too funny! The Addams Family…brings back good memories! Still missing Angel Joey like crazy. Sorry Zoe lost another friend. It’s nice to think of Lily guiding the furbabies as they arrive at Rainbow Bridge. Have a lovely Friday Eve. Love and hugs from me, kisses from Holly, Nikko and Sugar. Kathy.

Okay. I thought Steve Haskins was going to set me off but then I read Ashtons posts and that was that. Luckily I was the only person in the computer lab, alone with wonderful memories of an unforgettable and forever beloved horse. I am glad he is no longer suffering. Some horses just reach out and grab you by the heart and the throat and never let go.

JudyB. Beautiful photo. Just realized that Cigar has the Minstral in his pedigree. He was a wonderful racer. A chestnut son of Northern Dancer. That chestnut coat turned up from time to time in his other grandchildren. Dan’s got his 100 % cashmere from both sides of his family.

Sue Noel in Sun Valley,ID
OH NO!! First precious Sir, and now Cigar!! I am SO sorry about them both!!
Such lovely tributes to Cigar from so many places–really great!! How wonderful that Ashton got to see him when she did–amazing! Loved the videos of him racing–and playing–what a truly beautiful and majestic boy!!
@ Sally–Cannot begin to tell you how upset I was to read about Sir’s passing. I had so hoped that the right home could be found for him. I am so very glad that the lady was kind enough to allow your last visit to him. It must have been so hard to leave, but, it was so wonderful for you to be able to tell him again how very much he meant to you. And those pictures that Judy posted were just incredible!! What a gorgeous and sweet boy he was. So glad that you,and the rest of us will be able to see them again and again! I like to think that he and Cigar are running together!!
Jerry bailey’s desription of the time he asked Cigar to go and got “THE LOOK” reminds me of a recent Barnaby story I have not posted yet. 3 weeks ago,we were out at East Fork on Saturday, letting the horses out on Rita’s fenced-in lawn to much cool green grass, which they love doing. A big 4-door black truck, towing one of those coomon 6-horse white heavy metal stock trailers pulled over to the side of the road along the side of our pasture. At first,I was worried that he had car trouble and kept waiting for him to get out and try to fix what ever was wrong. The rig stayed there for at least 10 minutes. After awhile,we decided to lead the horses back out into the pasture and approach the truck to see if he needed help. As we rounded the corner of one of the smaller enclosures within the pasture, headed toward the truck,it suddenly fired up and took off!! Both of us got really “creeped out” at the same time, both thinking that he had been scoping out the horses, maybe thinking of stealing them!! We had never had locks on the pasture,so,even though there are two gates between the horses and the road, they had not been locked. Almost at the same time,we both said, when we’re in Hailey later, let’s get padlocks for the gates. We got really good ones down there and oput them on as soon as we got back. Barnaby,of course, was right at my side as I was doing this, curious,as always, about what I was doing. I decided that it was the perfect time to explain fully just what I WAS doing–so—I told him that we thought that the truck and trailer that was there earlier was a “bad man” that might want to take him,and Traveller, away from us. I sent the mental pictures describing all of this,as I have read, and been told, that the mental pictures are what they REALLYunderstand. I told him that he was NOT to go away with anyone else, that,if anyone else tried to catch them they were to run,and ,if caught, they should kick and rear and strike them in the heade with their hooves. I told him that they should not get in a trauiler with ANYONE unless we were there. I really explained the whole thing and told him how much we loved them and wanted to keep them safe.
The next morning,Sunday,we were really nervous going out there, hoping no one had been out there with bolt cutters to spirit them away. I told Sue that ,if they HAD been, there might be some dead guys out in the pasture! All was weel,so we were much relieved. During the morning,as I was grooming Barnaby, I started to remind him of what I had told him about the day before, and mentioned the “bad man” and reminded him of what I had told him. As soon as I started to repeat it, I got THE LOOK that said,as plain as if Barnaby had spoken English, Mom! You told me all about that yesterday–do you think I’m stupid?? I know what to do–I’ve got it–give me a break!!!!! The look on his face was one you’d get from a kid you’d just told for the umpteenth time not to talk to strangers. I could almost HEAR the GEEZ,MOM !!
That was a long story to tell why Jerry Bailey’s tale reminded me of it,but,it WAS funny that he can be SO expressive with his face! We’ve been glad that the pasture is now locked and have seen no signs of tampering–but–it WAS very creepy to have that guy staring at the horses for so long. It would be the worst thing EVER to have them stolen and to never know where,or how, they were!!!
@ Kathy R–we LOVE you—AND your wonderful stories of your “tiny” girl!!! We missed you so much when you were gone before,PLEASE,don’t ever leave us!!!!! Sheena, hope you are in touch by email to her as well so that you can tell her how much we love her!!
@ Barbara Wood-Are we going to get to see you at the BC?? Surely hope so!!
It was my morning to feed the “kids” today and it was so wonderful to see them. Barnaby LOVED his Honeycrisp!!! Happy day all!!!
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear Sue:
Got a chuckle out of your story about Barnaby’s “Look”. Too cute. Hoping, though, that he never has the need to go into “Ninja” mode. Love and Hugs, JB

Just got here today, to find out Sir is gone — I am so sorry, Sally. I am glad you got to say goodbye to him — I feel that is always important, when possible. Just a little kindness.
And Sue, thanks for another great story about Barnaby. The BC is not far away now. If you don’t make it, Barbara Wood, know that we will miss you.

Dear Max.I read Kathy R’s reply to you about Australia surely she hasn’t gone “walkabout”again! We,British, are used to being called pommies by the Aussies, goes back to when Australia was a penal colony and we used to send convicts out there. As you know we have a huge rivalry with their cricket team(the ashes test) and I wouldn’t like to think what they call one another!! I hope she will return with her lovely stories of Thurzel and General.
AP had a nasty tumble at Worcester today,he had to have oxygen.Hope he’ll be OK he is very tough.Sheik Mohammed has been spending his millions at Tattersalls and coolmore bought a 1/2 brother of Harbinger for 2.6 million gns. Maybe we’ll get good news from Hovis tomorrow.Free the Moose.Sheena
Max
Sheena. I didn’t get the impression that KathyR intends to leave. Cannot speak for her, but she seems to be a little discouraged about the way in which Tiny was treated before she came to KathyR. Who can blame her if the horse did not have the best that Tiny and all of them deserve? KathyR is devoted to Tiny and I’m sure that the horse will come around in due time. Just have to visit, use those treats and keep at it. The Aussie’s do have a way with words. Her comment about Poms made me laugh. As to ashes, my eyes glaze over about that.
Moose, break free from the beak.
Max
Sheena. Just re read that last goodbye comment from KathyR. Maybe she is a little more upset than I initially thought?
In that case, KathyR, everyone here enjoys your posts and your news of Tiny. Come back when you feel like it. There is more than enough room here for you and everybody else who loves horses.

Well I got to meet A.P. Indy today and I must say he is looking good for his age. He has the sway back, but he knows he is still all that. Curlin and Union Rags were brought out as well. Two more handsome boys i must say. I told Curlin that Rachel said hi and his ears perked up like he was thinking Rachel, yeah I remember her.
My stop at Three Chimneys gave the opportunity to see Will Take Charge. We could not get real close to him since they are still working on letting him down from racing, but he is one handsome chestnut with that big white blaze.
This Kentucky trip has been a great experience and I will be sad to leave, but I will carry some very special memories with me. I hope I have time to stop by and pay my final respects to Cigar.

October 10 Cherokee Devotional
Jealousy is never hidden. It seeps into conversation, shows in the turn of the head, lives on the tip of the tongue. Unbearable in any situation, jealousy wrings the noses of so-called competition and wreaks havoc in relationships. It is totally ignorant of the fact that we have to go within ourselves for the things that lift or lower us. What belongs to each of us has nothing to do with anyone else. To be a dv yu go di, jealous, is to be miserable. If we can’t hold our own, we can go home and get ready and come back. But to have animosity toward everyone who threatens cannot cultivate good in anything.
While the Indians received us as friends, and listened with kind attention to our propositions, we were painfully aware of their lack of confidence in the pledge of the Government.

I saw the most horrendous video of an experiment on a cat at Wisconsin University I think it’s on Miss Kitty’s page. The suffering that poor animal endured at the hands of “humans”is shocking to say the least. It seems 30 cats are experimented on this way every year,It also happens in the UK.It is sickening and all in the name of science!!

I was amazed yesterday. The Beaumont Enterprise rarely, (like never), carries horse racing stories but there was an article about Cigar’s passing. Just goes to show he captured the hearts and imagination all over the nation and probably the world. In Texas if it doesn’t involve football, scandal or outright public malfeasance forget it. Our Fall Fest and Friends of the Library book sale were a great success. The weather was wonderful. The Arboretum provided some excellent information about replenishing the breeding grounds of the lovely Monarch butterfly. Vast acres of milk weed have been destroyed which is where the butterflies gestate on the underside of the leaves. I can’t imagine my flowerbeds without the sea of butterflies I so love. Safe racing and best wishes to TC.

Janet, I’m thrilled for you that you got to see so many fabulous horses. I know that this trip was on your bucket list and I’m so happy for you. What did you think of Gemologist? Isn’t he gorgeous? He looks so much like his daddy. Did you get to see Dreaming of Julia? Did you make it to OF to see Game On Dude and Amazonbie? So many questions! LOL. Have a safe trip home, Janet!
Max, I went to the Winstar party with Janet last Friday and they briefly brought out Paynter and Tiznow. They both looked fabulous. Paynter looked really good and healthy and Tiznow, well, what can I say, he was Tiznow! He was the last one they brought out, after Paynter, Speightstown, Distorted Humor and Pioneer of the Nile, and he was fabulous! You could tell that he knew that he was the star and that everyone was there to see him. He’s absolutely gorgeous. He reminds me so much of Zenyatta. He’s big and has that beautiful white blaze. Janet could tell you more because she got to go back for a longer visit, but they both looked great.
