Happy Friday!
If you’ve been waiting for an update about Zenyatta’s boys, this post is for you. Brothers Cozmic One and Ziconic spent the last few months with John Shirreffs at Belmont Park. They are pictured above eating some of their favorite treats, sweet potato for Ziconic and carrot juice for Coz.
This month, John and Dottie moved the horses back to Santa Anita for the winter. We’ll let you know how they’re settling in next week.
Here are a few photos from Ziconic’s November 25 workout at Belmont Park and a couple of Coz breezing as well. Photos courtesy of Dottie Ingordo-Shirreffs.
Enjoy!

Great to see and hear more about these horses. I haven’t heard much about Zenyatta lately so this is timely. Thanks. I realized one life-long dream in 2012 which was going to Santa Anita for the Breeders Cup. I’d like to see Zenyatta some time, as well as Silver Charm, ( who is at Old Friends now ). Until those dreams are realized, I shall be sure to follow the progress of these young horses and hope for the best!

Thrilled to see the boys are back!!! Thank you to Zenyatta’s team for this exciting update and Dottie for the photos. The carrot juice mustache is ( as she said before, TOO CUTE).
Always so appreciative of any news regarding Zenyatta and her boys.

Thanks to The Mosses, the team, and Dottie for the updates on our boys. So happy to see them thriving…..they both look magnificent. Maybe a race coming up soon for them, I will be so excited to watch!! CoZ loves his carrot juice so much, brings back memories of Zenny with her beer, and Zi with his sweet potato. Can’t wait to see more pictures. Love to big Mama and belly, you’ll always be my girl.
Kathy
Oh my, Coz and Ziconic just take my breath away. Love the insight about the sweet potato and carrot juice too! Thank you so much for keeping us informed, Team Z!

Winter sunsets cut through the dense woods and light them with a thousand blazing candles. The brilliance of the last rays reaches long fingers over the dark horizon to glaze rooftops with orange and to color chimney smoke.
Down along the timberline a couple of does paw the crusty snow and leaves in search of acorns. Excited coyote pups yip at the sight of their mother and a screech owl’s voice quavers in the cold crisp air.
It is hard to be weary, hard to be angry, hard to be full of self when the land offers such peace. To see and hear natural things makes a huge adjustment seem as though it is so simple-and it is.
We were contented to let things remain as the Great Spirit made them.

Dear Sheena,
I’m working today so won’t be on here later on. What a treat to get an update on Coz and Ziconic! They both look wonderful. All seems well with our FB furbabies. Did you see the tiara I sent to Zoe? She looks so pretty in it…a real princess! The ratties are busy with their holiday baking and they even sold hot chocolate with marshmallows. Such entrepreneurs! Have a wonderful weekend. Love and hugs from me, kisses from Holly, Nikko and Sugar. Kathy XOXO

Ziconic looks like he has matured and he loves his sweet potato! Cannot wait to see them race again. Merry Christmas to all!

On this day in 1915 Francis Albert Sinatra was born.It took me a while to appreciate Ol’ Blue Eyes preferring pop music when young. Now I understand his appeal. He never just sang a song he lived every word. His epitaph reads”The best is yet to come”He was the best. His legacy lives on RIP.Hugs Sheena
Marshall (NC Broad)
Dear Sheena,
Indeed it does! You are so right about his never just singing a song but his living every word. Beautifully put! I was more into rock and roll in my youth; however, by my twenties, I had developed a real appreciation for his magnificent talent. Definitely, he was the best.
Happy Birthday, Francis Albert! We miss you. RIP
Hugs and Love

Coz does look so much like his Mom when he’s all stretched out. Zic is gorgeous. Both boys are treasures.

Today’s devo:
Now the main point in what has been said is this: we have such a high priest, who has taken His seat at the right hand of the throne of the Majesty in the heavens, a minister in the sanctuary, and in the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, not man. (Hebrews 8:1–2)
The point of the book of Hebrews is that Jesus Christ, God’s Son, has not just come to fit into the earthly system of priestly ministry as the best and final human priest, but he has come to fulfill and put an end to that system and to orient all our attention on himself ministering for us in heaven.
The Old Testament tabernacle and priests and sacrifices were shadows. Now the reality has come, and the shadows pass away.
Here’s an Advent illustration for kids — and those of us who used to be kids and remember what it was like. Suppose you and your mom get separated in the grocery store, and you start to get scared and panic and don’t know which way to go, and you run to the end of an aisle, and just before you start to cry, you see a shadow on the floor at the end of the aisle that looks just like your mom. It makes you really happy and you feel hope. But which is better? The happiness of seeing the shadow, or having your mom step around the corner and it’s really her?
That’s the way it is when Jesus comes to be our High Priest. That’s what Christmas is. Christmas is the replacement of shadows with the real thing.

Love the update…hopefully we’ll see much ore of these handsome fellas.
Thanks, Dottie, for the pictures. Zi seems to like his “job” which, to my untrained eye, is a good thing. Coz remains a bit of mystery to me. They are happy and healthy which is the best situation for both of them.
Janie (in L.A.)
So glad Zenyatta’s boys are here in L.A.! Hope to see them race soon. Thanks for the update!

Wonderful to see Zenny’s boy looking so good and enjoying their treats. Do either of them love pears I wonder.. I delivered some pears to Lane’s End for Zenny after the BC. When I entered the office and said I was delivering pears, the young lady immediately said “For Zenyatta, she will enjoy them”
Deb E.
Zenny also likes bananas which is rather strange, but Her Mike brought her some on one of his visits to his favorite girl, and she gobbled it right up! Must be a special thing between Zenyatta and Mike that only they share because her parents, the Mosses, and other visitors bring her apples, pears, carrots, and the all important peppermints!
Tizgood
Dear Brenda and Deb E,
I forgot how much Zenny loves all kinds of fruit – JS must have done a lot of his experimental fruit testing with her to. He thinks of some very unusual fruits and vegetables to give his horses to keep them interested.
Love and hugs
Marshall (NC Broad)
Great to hear from you, Brenda!
Hope all is well in Ft. Erie. I know Zenny enjoyed the pears so much. Bless you!

Big Congratulations, Pam!
51 years is quite an accomplishment, but I bet it seems like only yesterday when you set out together. Happy Anniversary!

Thank you everyone! He is not a horse race lover but he does understand that a televised horse race takes precedents over any other sport! He has a little problem with the Breeders Cup, though. He can’t understand why it goes ALL day! He’s a keeper, though. Congrats Kathy on your 42 years!

Dear Pam:
Wow, I join Marshall in sending Congratulations. Love and Hugs, JB

Dear Pam,
I just read this. That’s wonderful! I have been married to the same guy for 42 years. We are lucky to have found our soul mates! Hugs, Kathy

Great article on pedigree analysis of TC winner- Affirmed with comments about AP and his potential to be a great sire – he does not have a very dominant female family, which could be a big issue – additional discussion of other great TC winners that were great sires – Seattle Slew being one

Thanks for the post Tizgood. Affirmed was no loser as a sire and his granddaughters were very special. Glad my beloved Alydar was mentioned in the piece. My heart still cries for him. My first real “horsey” crush. Now I have The Red Prince to crush on!
Tizgood
Dear Shirlee,
I was so touched that Alydar was also mentioned; what a very great horse. And the chestnut Prince ….. what can I say other than love that junkinhistrunk – it was moving well in that video.
Chestnuts have not my favorite, but they are really growing on me – Shackelford, Wise Dan, now the baby prince ……..
Love and hugs

Dear Tiz:
Thanks for posting this article on Affirmed. He an Alydar (like you Shirlee) are two of my all time favorites. Love and Hugs, JB

Dottie,
What a wonderful Christmas present for us! Thank you for the pics of our boys. Each looks magnificent and that scamp, Zi, is darling. Coz, like Mom, is very regal yet with a hint of mischief in his eyes. Can’t wait to see and hear more of them.

The new blog is great…so are the pictures of our boyz. That said, anticipation is killing us…when will these two actually race? We are thankful for any updates but waiting is so hard for those of us who have followed Coz an Zi from the beginning. Team Z, we are grateful for any and all information. So…we will wait….

Street Fancy Bursts to Starlet Score
By Claire Novak, The Blood-Horse December 12, 2015
Agave Racing Stable’s Street Fancy went from maiden winner to grade I winner Dec. 12, taking the $300,000 Starlet Stakes (gr. I) at Los Alamitos Race Course with a strong late burst of speed.
The 2-year-old Street Sense filly closed from far back and split horses late, diving to the inside and running down Stays in Vegas after pacesetter Pretty N Cool faded to fourth in the final sixteenth.
Final time for the 1 1/16-mile test was 1:44.42 on a fast track
