Regretfully, we have to confirm that Zenyatta aborted her pregnancy mid-April. The cause of the abortion was found to be a low grade placentitis that triggered premature placental separation. Zenyatta has bounced back well and is enjoying the spring sunshine in her paddock.
The staff at Lane’s End Farm continues to give Zenyatta the best care possible, and for that we are incredibly grateful. Fans, we thank each of you for your love and support. Love and hugs to all.

A Lovely Spring day grazing in the bluegrass with your paddock friend.
Wishing you all the very best.
Thank you Lanes End for all you do for these lovely horses.

Dear Zenyatta, I am so sorry for the loss of your foal, but I am so glad that you are OK. I Was so terribly worried when I heard the news. ( Thank You So Much Team Z and Lane’s End for updating us on our girl)
One of the things that helped my heart the most was reading JAG’s post to you at the beginning. She is so right I just know that Karen will be looking after your 3 offspring. I wanted to add another that Zenyatta I know with all my heart will be looking after them too. Your beautiful mother Vertigineux.
You know Z we’re all in this life together and there’s going to be good and bad to happen but I am so very glad you are here and your wonderful Coz, Ziconic and baby 17 Z. I am just so very very Thankful.
Zenyatta I was just watching a new wonderful movie on Hallmark Channel, The Beach House. There was a segment about the Loggerhead Sea Turtles. And, it told that sometimes we humans are one of the helps for their survival.
Zenyatta we love you so, I know we can’t be with you so much. but I sure know you have all our love and our prayers for your like. The people in that movie were called The Turtle People. But Zenyatta I am so happy to call myself one of the Horse People. Love You with all my heart. Know l8 Z is OK. Remember Z when Jesus comes back it is said the he will be riding a white horse. We’ll see them again Zenyatta. Love Ya, Peggy
Happy Mothers Day

Maybe a visit from Ann or Mike Smith may help her recover emotionally.

Oh Zenny, why is this happening to you? It’s so unfair that any mother should lose her babies. Lord please shepard this sweet soul to the green pastures of heaven.
Sandra Frey
Sending my love, thoughts and prayers to Zenyatta and all connections. We don’t understand why these things in nature happen, but we have to accept them and move forward. For Zenyatta and her connections, you are loved and adored by so many and hope this helps in your healing.

Thank you Team Z at LE and the Mosses for letting Zsters and Dumplings know about our beloved Zenyatta, I am grateful always that whether the news is heartbreaking or heartwarmingly wonderful, your decision has been to continue to share with all who love the Queen. Thank you also for loving this sweet mare and caring for her and looking at all the information to make decisions about what is best and in her best interest. My sympathies for your loss of this very watched for and wanted foal. I am so very relieved to see these pictures of Zenyatta recovering and healthy in the pasture. Sending love to all who love her, DMCQ
Rebecca
Another thing I would like to say is that it is the Moss’ choice on whether to breed Zenyatta again or not and whether to retire her or not. They give her the best of care. But if asked my opinion I would give Zenyatta a year or two to rest and then breed her again. She is still a good age for breeding and there a lot of broodmares that are older then her and she has not had any complications like Rachel Alexandra. Zenyatta has been through is all normal things that happen to everyone in the breeding business. Princess Z’s death was not right after birth and was an accident and the foals that have died before and after birth were from natural causes, it was just not the Lord’s Will that they live. I believe that Zenyatta just needs a rest and that she was made to be a mother, to raise foals whether they are champions or not. Someday on of them could be the one to carry her bloodlines and one of their offspring could be the next champion. Any way I love them whether they are champions or not. God has Zenyatta in his hand, he cares for his creation. Zenyatta is wonderful and is in good health.
Max
Zenyatta was a closer as a race horse. It always looked impossible, as if she could never win, but she did. She overcame the odds. As a broodmare, she may be the same. Somethingroyal was 18 when she gave birth to Secretariat. Look at the expression in her eye in the above photo. That is not the look of a mare who is done as a mother. The best is yet to be. We must wait with the Queen.
Teresa
Agreed!!

Very sorry to learn that dual G1 and @BreedersCup winner Wuheida has been retired due to injury. Looked super when I saw her @godolphin last week. Will make a lovely broodmare.
