Regretfully, we have to confirm that Zenyatta aborted her pregnancy mid-April. The cause of the abortion was found to be a low grade placentitis that triggered premature placental separation. Zenyatta has bounced back well and is enjoying the spring sunshine in her paddock.
The staff at Lane’s End Farm continues to give Zenyatta the best care possible, and for that we are incredibly grateful. Fans, we thank each of you for your love and support. Love and hugs to all.

Very sad news about Zenyatta and her foal, but nature has its’ own way of solving problems. Nasty truth, but still truth. To those who want Zenny to be retired from the foaling barn, I ask why? The odds are that most mares will have one issue or another with foaling at one time or another. Zenyatta has successfully delivered three foals (one lost to a pasture accident…..another reality of having horses), the meconium issue wasn’t unusual either. All pregnancies aren’t perfect; it’s just that with THIS very special mare, we know when she pees!? She’ll probably have the year off, be bred next spring and we can begin to worry all over again! I wish her the best and know she is in very good hands. And, by the way, my condolences to her connections; the loss of any foal is a tragedy.
