Happy Monday!
We celebrated Zenyatta’s birthday at Lane’s End last week with carrots, pears, yams, mints, cupcakes, and even Guinness! Fans sent birthday cards and cakes for Zenyatta and Ziconic, who shares his birthday with his mom. Scroll down for photos from our party.
Enjoy!

Dear Sheena,
Thanks for the news about “Poldark”! I loved the original from the 70’s — don’t see how they can improve on the original cast, though. The series was exceedingly well done. Will be on the lookout for the new one.
Have a good week!

Just did some checking on the other horses in COZ’s race and he is the only First Time Starter. The others have had at least one start. Also the No. 6 horse, Volume, is a son of Blame. OMG. Love and Hugs, JB

If that was a joke putting Volume of Blame in the same race as the Prince its not funny and am not laughing. But my God would help the Prince to run his Best and put the nay sayers to rest. IT is well and In God we Trust. Amen and Amen,

Don’t think Claiborne put Volume in the race because of Coz. With these young horses, it happens. God bless all of them and keep them safe.

Dear Maureen and Shirlee:
I agree, Blame’s babies are coming of age like Cozzie and will be competing. It’s just that you couldn’t make a scenario like this up for COZ’s first start. Safe and sound to COZ and all of the horses. We love you Prince One. Love and Hugs, JB

Across the valley a thin ribbon of road rises to the rim of the horizon and disappears from sight. It looks like the edge of the world where everything stops simply because it is out of view. But other valleys, other hills, other roads exist beyond what can be seen from just one point.
What sees to be the end of the road is a bend in the road. Keep going and there is a broader view, a clearer vision. The outer eye can see only so far, but the inner eye has vision without limit. We can make our views good or bad, negative or positive. What do you see from here?
As for me, I assure you I will press on, and contrary winds may blow strong in my face, yet I will go forward and never turn back.

It is fun! This will be the fourth year I’ve worked on the decorating crew We’re behind schedule this year owing to the weather. We were unable to mulch some of the jumps, as they weren’t finished constructing, sanding, and/or painting someof them. There was too much rain for anyone to work outside. But everything will be done on time. It always is.
I also work at the trade fair.
There will be many Thoroughbreds, including some that came off the track, competing at Rolex. Any horse that can compete here is aworld-class athlete. Interestingly, many of the OTTBs were undistinguished race horses, but they’ve found their calling as eventers.
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear Laura J:
It’s so true. Our beloved TBs are versatile and do really well in other venues. That is the case with our Hudson too; she loves to jump. She and the girls are competing in at least five shows starting in May and into September. God Bless you for being a part of Rolex. Love and Hugs, JB
Celeste_in_TX
What an awesome and fun thing to do!!! Helping to set up, decorate and layout all the jumps and work the Rolex must be quite exhausting and exciting at the same time. I love the Kentucky Horse Park!!!
lauraj_cincinnati
Oh, I have nothing whatsoever to do with designing or laying out anything. The courses, right down to what flowers they want where, are designed by professionals. The volunteer crews just follow instructions. We have a little creative leeway when it comes to decorating clocks, scoreboards, and so forth, but not with anything involving the competition venues. But it’s all good.
The cool thing is getting to see the jumps up close and personal. Some of them are HUGE! It amazes me that not only do these horses jump these obstacles, they do so easily on so many of the jumps. My good buddy Scotty (the horse I normally ride) would take one look at them and say, “Are you nuts?!!! I’m going to go eat some of this nice grass.”
The stadium jumps are beautiful. Several of them are sponsored by local horse farms and recall them in appearance. There are (IIRC) a Calumet jump, a Claiborne jump, a Gainesway jump, plus a Keeneland jump.
Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
Have a super time LauraJ!!! Hope the weather is good and everything runs like clockwork so that you can enjoy the event after all of your hard work!

It’s worth reading. Very interesting. I predict he will either make a very good run or else miss a turn. :-) He sounds like a real handful.
shirleeinindy
Wish he didn’t have that #1 post. No tragedy if he doesn’t win this first time out.
Sounds like John thinks he might grow some this year and end up closer to Mom’s size.
Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
Well . . . . he certainly is his own horse :-) I feel for John – I’m sure he wishes that he could race him “incognito” a couple of times until he sees how this is going to work. Listen Coz – a lot of hard work has been expended here on your behalf. Be a good boy (but run really fast) and make John, the Mosses, and your Mom proud! You don’t have to win – just look like a racehorse and no biting the competition :-)

Thanks for posting Shirlee and Lauraj,
Wow I guess JS thinks CoZ is really an amazing colt…….difficult yes, but the truly brilliant ones often are. Dear Kathy.Monday again!!!Even Boo wishes there was a 3 day weekend. The race is 5pm Eastern time right more suitable for me will be 10pm over here.Oh,I hope all goes well for him. He has big hooves to fill and seems to be a bit of a handful.I wish Mike were riding though. It’s a better day on the Dyfi Monty has been busy fishing 19 caught since their return. No signs of Blue 24 she may be in mid-north Wales.Zoe’s mum was busy at the Ruby Ranch yesterday.I haven’t been on Little Cakees in ages her tumour was benign and she is much better nowMango’s visitors arrived and she’s having fun!
The wren law firm are donating $1000 to Joey’s playroom each month I think on the 11th.I supported a vet running in the marathon for our PDSA.Miss Kitty and Miiko seem a lot better hope she will gain weight though is enjoying her new food!Have to visit the rest now!Remember to turtle-turtle!Enjoy your day.Love and hugs to you,Kisses for Holly,Nikko and Sugar.Sheena.
Kathy
Dear Sheena,
Boo has given us Monday off. Also, the ratties posted that there is no Monday. So we’re GOOD! We will all need antacids on Friday! I don’t think any of us will be breathing during the race. Godspeed and best of luck to Coz. No matter the outcome, he is definitely LOVED. Monty is quite the fisherman, Diane had a very busy day. Zoe was left behind with Daddy. She got a consolation prize however…a Blizzard from Dairy Queen! Glad Little Cakees is better. I hope Mango enjoys her company. That’s wonderful of that law firm to donate each month to Joey’s playroom. Such good publicity for them, too! Cudos to you for supporting the vet in the marathon. Glad Miss Kitty is better. I will turtle-turtle as much as possible. Have a great day. Love and hugs from me, kisses from Holly, Nikko and Sugar. Kathy.

Such high expectations of Coz! Like was said, the most important thing is a good safe run for his first time out. I know John is doing a great job and what a nice touch that Mike had ridden him with such affection.
We love you, Prince, and will pray for a terrific race.
Abigail_1849
Hi everyone!
Well, SPRING has finally arrived in Montreal, although it’s the first week and the ground remains pretty hard….so few flowers here or etc.
THEN I picked up (yesterday) that OUR COZ is making his first start this coming Friday. I’m a real Nervous Nellie….not that I think he won’t do his best — or that he’s not ready. I just feel like a mother whose first born is starting school on Friday!!!!! Fortunately, I’m spring cleaning (ugghhhh!) so the time should pass pretty quickly…..but I will need A STIFF DRINK on Friday, that’s for sure.
Glad to hear that Balthazar King is on the mend. Also watched Coolmore’s JOHN F KENNEDY yesterday blow a STINKER in his 3 year-old start — and he’s the Epsom Derby favourite. Or was. LOL.
And I’m still rooting for CARPE DIEM in the Derby because he’s by GIANT’S CAUSEWAY whom I adore, but I’ve got to admit that DORTMUND and AMERICAN PHAROAH are looking more and more like winners every time they race! AP’s Arkansas Derby was amazing to watch and he sure has that “magic” that champion’s exude…and he just cantered home. Still, I must be loyal to a descendant of my beloved Terlingua. Especially because CD looks so much like her!
I finally got around to write something new on THE VAULT. Are you in the mood for a juicy scandal related to the Triple Crown? Well then, this is going to be right up your alley!!!!

Usually JS does not get his first time starters ready to win the first time out just like Bill Mott and a few other trainers, just gets them ready to race. CoZ has has a lot to overcome just hope he has a great run. Zenyatta was not the typical JS first time maiden
Winner she was very much the exception. Hope he does ok on the rail!!!

The weather was horrible this morning, torrential rains, but I knew I had to get to the library because I knew news about Coz was bound to come soon. Glad I waded through the standing water because I was right! Coz to get his first start. Have to check and make sure my Xanex prescription is filled!!! John is so careful I know Coz is ready but all that pent up energy and drawing by the rail is a little worrisome. It seems like just yesterday Coz was born and now he is ready to take his place on the track. Run safe beautiful boy. You will have a lot of aunties and uncles with you every step of the way. Just remember nobody expects you to be ZENYATTA. Just be the best COZMIC ONE you can be. My heart goes with you every step of the way.

Dear Sheena,
Thanks for the tip on the new Poldark. I also thought the actress (I forget her name now) who played Demelza (sp?) in the original series was exceptional. Look forward to seeing the new series and will be on the lookout for Robin Ellis.
Huey and Bailey are doing just fine; although, Huey is quite slow and is having problems with his leg joints – some arthritis due to age and poor joint structure. He can’t go on long walks anymore but is doing okay. He gets glucosamine/chondroitin & fish oil daily, and Rimadyl when needed. Woofs and Wags to you!

Yes, we will all be nervous nellies, worry warts, and pacing godparents when Coz steps on the track on Friday. Somehow, I cannot believe that this day has finally come. I hope he has a good run, likes racing, and behaves himself.
I know I keep saying that’s all I hope for for Coz, that he’s his best self or learns to be under John, but I must admit a little, tiny sneaking hope that Z’s offspring turn the racing world upside down, just as she did.
Wouldn’t that just be perfect? It would only add to her already amazing legacy.
Go Cozmic One!!!!

Pati-College Girl
Zenyatta looks spectacular. An absolute specimen in the study of equine health. Lanes End has been doing wonders for the reining Queen.
I have faith that Coz will be fine in his first race. I was in Saratoga when he was up there training with Ebby last summerish (around the August-September border) and I remember one of our “tour guides” telling me about how everyone was commenting about how much Coz looked like Z and how they were so hoping that he would make a start at Saratoga one day. They clearly thought that he was good enough for their meeting and they saw him almost everyday at that point. I think he’ll surprise us on Friday with a good run. Once he feels that race day adrenaline, who knows how many lights will switch on at once?
Hope everyone is well. I see many of the regulars, so that is always a good sign! :-)

What starts out to be an exaggeration, and even a great joke, can turn into a lie. The worst lie is to hurt someone intentionally, but equally sad is the lie told for pure self-defense, or to spare someone the truth. There are those who will believe a lie-which is more in their understanding than the truth.
So much drama and so much pretense makes lying acceptable to those living in false existence. To find the right path, get rid of the habit of lying. It is a trap that looks innocent but the effects lead to wrongdoing.
Our fathers gave us many laws…that it was a disgrace to tell a lie, that we should speak only the truth.
