Happy Monday!
We celebrated Zenyatta’s birthday at Lane’s End last week with carrots, pears, yams, mints, cupcakes, and even Guinness! Fans sent birthday cards and cakes for Zenyatta and Ziconic, who shares his birthday with his mom. Scroll down for photos from our party.
Enjoy!

RIP Mike Mitchell. My condolences to all his extended family and friends. Today was the first time I watched the video shot for the Breeders Cup with Zenyatta and Z Princess. I couldn’t before. Zenyatta’s next foal should be named Feel the Magic. Every time I see her and the boys that is what I feel, the magic that surrounds them. The picture of John and Coz in front of Z’s statue says it all. Magic.
The county is full of deer this spring. Got up this morning and a young deer was standing in the middle of my Lantana bed. I think is was looking at itself in the gazing ball or drinking from the bird bath. The three dogs were so surprised they didn’t even have time to bark. The deer took off right through the azaleas lining the fence which it nimbly jumped and ran away into the woods. That is why I love living in the country.

Rest In Peace Mike.

Ocho Ocho Ocho works 5f in :58.80
Jay Privman DRF Live Wed. April 15 2015
OCHO OCHO OCHO worked five furlongs in 58.80 seconds this morning at Santa Anita in preparation for a likely start in the Kentucky Derby.
“He worked really well. I’ve never seen him work better,” said his trainer, Jim Cassidy.
Cassidy said he planned on working Ocho Ocho Ocho once more at Santa Anita next week before heading to Churchill Downs. He plans to fly Ocho Ocho Ocho to Kentucky on either April 24 or April 27.
“I’d rather work him here than go there and you get rain and can’t breeze,” Cassidy said.
Cassidy said that Kent Desormeaux is the most likely rider for Ocho Ocho Ocho if he runs in the Derby.

There is a lovely video of CC jogging in his first outing at Newmarket he sure
Was curious about all of the bird and geese and farm sound but he looks very
Beautiful against the English country side. it was in a ring and he followed another 3 year old, he was very professional until he stopped, raised his head and pricked his ears
Listening to all this new sounds so very different from CA and Los Al.
TIZGOOD
Forgot to mention it is on Rae Guest’s website under new. CC is shiny as a copper penny
Just like Secretariate !!!

How AWESOME is Mike Smith??? These lyrics sum it up…
Once Again
Before you go
Allow me to look
Once more
Into the face
I will never forget.
The lyrics are a song Mike Smith sang to Zenyatta before every race. It’s a little prettier in Spanish, the way Smith sings it. Zenyatta’s sisters have had temperment issues, and they wanted to keep Zenyatta calm before she raced. She would step in time to the lyrics after post parade and then mill around by herself as the other horses were jogged to get ready.

I remember MIke Mitchell from the old days. NO one was better with claiming horses than he. RIP. To lighten the mood a bit, here is a joke that I heard in another form, but I”ll make it a redneck joke. A redneck was talking with a friend when he started bragging. The subject of state capitols came up. “I know them all,” said the redneck. His friend said “OK. What’s the capitol of Wisconsin?” The redneck replied “That’s easy. It’s W.”

Mega congrats to Peggy’s beautiful Night Prowler for a great win at Keeneland!! He really mowed ’em down at the end. I forget how you came to follow NP Peggy?

Very nice win. Reminded me of Danny.

Peggy,
Happy for you and Night Prowler. Looked good. Hope he came out of the race sound, happy and hungry.
Peggy (N) South Georgia
Dear Sandy, Max, Shirlee, I am just so happy about my boy Night Prowler. I met him last 2014 at the March OBS Sales. Have followed him ever since. I met him before he was a gelding. But, you know he seemed well behaved to me then. Just love him dearly. He didn’t sell at OBS. They kept him. I lost track of him for a few months so maybe that’s when they gelded him. Judy and I were talking back and forth as I had sent her pictures of him. But he showed up shortly.
Just would so like to give him a hug. Hope to see him again.
He does so remind me of Wise Dan
Sure hope he’s well tomorrow.
Peggy (N) South Georgia
Sandy, I thought who knew too last year. Carpe Diem was also there. But he didn’t have a name yet. I saw him when he went in and came out of the ring. He got a huge applause. He is an awesome looking horse. I think if I am remembering right he was maybe the sales topper that day.
shirleeinindy
Peggy,
Stonestreet says that Carpe Diem will carry their silks in the Derby. Another Golden Boy! They and Win Star alternate the silks.

Congrats, Peggy. You have been on cloud nine!

I thought that it was the same video you linked. I’ve been fighting virus attacks on my computer for well over two months now. My Anti Virus service keeps fighting it, but I keep running into problems accessing links and with overall performance. Hoping it resolves soon.

Treve could return sooner than planned
Just Horse Racing Wed. April 15 2015
Dual Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe winner Treve could be back in competitive action sooner than anticipated.
Trainer Criquette Head-Maarek is considering a comeback in May.
The brilliant mare looked set for retirement after claiming Europe’s premier middle-distance event for the second time in Paris last October.
But owner Sheikh Joaan Al Thani has brought her back into training in a bid to make her the first three-time Arc winner in history.

Thank You too so much for the nice article on the previous page about Ginger Punch. Love hearing about this pretty girl. Oh Gosh, Just went to Bloodhorse, Night Prowler is on the front page. Hope he doesn’t get the big head. I sure do give Mr. Pompa a Thumbs up. He’s sure had some nice horses. Think he was one of the original owners of Big Brown. Love him too.
Night Prowler, maybe you can go find our Danny Boy there at Keeneland and he can give you some tips for a wonderful career.
Love you boys. Night Prowler so proud of you, Danny your just the most interesting horse in the world.

Judy, Night Prowler is still so young looking to me. Just a baby. And, how about him beating a Kitten!!!!!!!! So proud of him and Javiar.

What limitations cannot be moved? Have we tried to move even a little the thing that dares us to do anything?
Someone will always try to say we are stuck with this thing so we may as well get used to it. But people adjust too easily to burdens when with a little divine wisdom they would know how to nudge it aside. Test your limitations-and keep testing them. Refuse the voices of solace that speak dolefully. Let nothing daunt your desire to keep trying.

Dear Kathy.Late visiting the babies today grocery shopping!!It’s beautiful here again not so warm though.Great video of Glesni doing her housework on the dyfi!I am sure there will be eggs next week!Marty’s minions will help you with your taxes if you pay in yogies and Mr Fibbs is there for us.Zoe had a busy day didn’t she?Who knows what would have happened if the Ruby Ranch hadn’t rescued her. There is a wonderful piece on Racing Post today about the dangers of the Grand National and jumps in general. The Green Party would want it banned .Can they tell us what would happen to all those horses???
Now I feel old Jimmy Osmond is 52 today!Yikes!I know Donny has many grandchildren now.Miss Kitty has to have more tests out of town she has raised nearly $1000.I didn’t know she had a rabbit as well.Fubu has to visit his doc on Friday still very sleepy and not eating much. It’s going to be so hard for Kimberly to let go.Hope all goes well for him.Have a great Friday eve.Love and hugs to you,Kisses for Holly,Nikko and Sugar.Sheena.
Kathy
Dear Sheena,
I’ll check out the video of Glesni doing her housework. Help doing your taxes from ratties…they are giving TurboTax a run for their money! I’m sure 100 yogies would come cheaper! Yes, Zoe’s day was very busy. She’s such an adorable little girl. And to think at one time they pronounced Zoe un-adoptable! I’ll look for the Racing Post article when I get the chance. Time does have a way of passing us all by. Hard to believe stars we remember as very young are now old! It’s not cheap to keep a sick animal going. I hope Miss Kitty pulls through. I know it will be horrible for Kimberly when the dreaded time comes. Feeling sorry for both of those ladies. I wrote to Ray Charles the Golden retriever to tell him my birthday is Tuesday. We’ll see if I get a mention! Have a wonderful Friday Eve. Love and hugs from me, kisses from Holly, Nikko and Sugar. Kathy.

Dear Zenyatta – All set to see your boy in his race tomorrow! He will have lots of Z fans, Chrome fans and many others wishing him and John and Victor the very best of luck tomorrow and safe racing for all. I know I will be on pins and needles. His debut. Wow. I hope they let you watch it on your stable tv!!! The weather should be just about perfect. It will be a thrill for so many. I’ve seen him at work outs on occasion but this will be a very special moment for everyone. No matter what, we are and will forever be your faithful fans.
Barbara Brayton
Hope Coz does well tomorrow, but in any case comes back safe. Hoping for the best with Chrome as well.
Marty R / Colorado
It’s just a day and couple hours until the long anticipated debut of the Cozmic One’s first race. In remembering Eby’s first race, I’m thinking the crowd will be even bigger and louder when Coz is on the track. I wonder if there will be cotton in his ears, like Mom and I wonder who will be walking Coz.. Wouldn’t it be something if it’s Mario?? Little ZB, as we called him before he was born, has grown up and will be stepping onto the big racing stage. I pray for a good experience for Coz and Victor and that they return from the race safe, healthy and happy. I hope the same for their opponents as well.
I want to thank everyone who has found and shared all the articles and photos leading up to this race. I especially like the picture where John and Coz are walking near Zenyatta’s statue. Would love to know John’s thoughts at that moment. It’s really great to have John’s and Victor’s insights into Coz’s training and their hopes for the ultimate learning outcome of the race for Coz.
Dumplingz and Zsters, I’ll be looking for you on Calracing.com. Have a wonderful time. Enjoy this new page for your memory books.
