ZENYATTA WILL BE BRED TO TAPIT
Owners Jerry and Ann Moss announced today that ZENYATTA, the 2010 Horse of the Year, will be sent to Tapit to be bred in 2012. “ZENYATTA’s pedigree is a great match to the A.P. Indy sire line, and in choosing Tapit, we think this will be a dynamic mating. Her first mating was to Bernardini, a son of A.P. Indy, and we are thrilled with her colt.”
A grandson of Lane’s End’s two-time leading sire A.P. Indy, Tapit is by Pulpit and out of the stakes winner Tap Your Heels. Tapit, a Grade 1 winner, was third on the General Sire list last year and is currently ranked second on that list. He is the sire of three Breeders’ Cup winners in his first four crops, including last year’s champion juvenile colt Hansen. Tapit stands at Gainesway.
ZENYATTA is boarded at Mr. and Mrs. William S. Farish’s Lane’s End Farm near Versailles, Kentucky. She foaled a colt by Bernardini on March 8 and the Mosses were at Lane’s End for the birth.

We are OK with whatever schedule you think you are on…
but I truly urge you to consider #5 on the checklist..
Mudbaths are relaxing and soothing….followed by warm soapy baths with gentle massage could be just the thing …

Z fans. My own theory is that Z had her foal on time because her family flew in and she did not want to disappoint them by making them wait any longer. Maybe Z and Tasty talked it over and Tasty will have her foal on Z’s birthday, April 1 ? That means a wait until next weekend! Oh Tasty, you are keeping us all guessing and making yourself a celebrity at the same time. Hoping for an exact replica of Tasty, although much smaller.

We like the way you think!

Dear Max and Z Fans:
You’re going to think I’m crazy, but I actually was thinking that Z might have gone into labor and foaled because Mr. and Mrs. Moss had arrived. Maybe she felt comfortable and relaxed and it happened. Mr. Moss did say it was a “surprise” and they were not expecting it. I’m sure that’s silly, but it did occur to me. Hugs, JB
Vicki B. near Hollywood Park
Yes, I also kinda think it might have been a factor too. Zenny knows Ann & Jerry are her “family”, she was happy to see them, and that might have helped her body relax a bit, as if she knew “why” they were there — but who knows, if that’s a fantasy or not.
Heidi K (Vallejo,Ca)
Ha…. I’m happy to see that I’m not the only one that thought, that Zenny gave birth because, her Momma and Dad were there with her!!

I know a solution for your troubled dilema on having Zen be a lifetime broodmare. Fork out about 100million to them and see if they’ll let you rent her, stick her in your living room so you can worship her. You’re really an idiot and have no clue about the industry, to “put the Moses” intergity online with your stupidity is idiotic.

I thank you so kindly for your very distinguish words and your profound thoughts. I was of the believed that your personal opinions were something to discuss with others, and not to be, insulted by the other person for not agreeing with there’s.

Good grief!! Ingrid, I just wanted to say that my beliefs about Zenyatta are different than yours. However, the comment from Mary above was NOT nice and not usual for Z fans. I love your comments and everyone’s opinions, Someone is probably going to bite my head off now, but I felt the need to tell you how sorry I am you were attacked! Keep on posting your opinions. Our differences make the world go around!

Dear Louise:
Thank you so much for your support, is nice to know that you can discuss your opinion, without being insulted. Hugs Ingrid.

Apology to you, I suppose I got my feathers in a ruffle so to speak. The though of Zenny, with her remarkable racing ability and impeccable bloodlines be suggested that she be retired from breeding so fast and be treated more like Royalty and not pass on those bloodlines that can improve the racing industry seemed strange, just my opinion. Afterall, do you think any of us would have come to have known Zen if not for her remarkle racing career? Anyway, keep posting your thoughts and I’ll try to think twice before diving in to the deep in. Remember, the great Secretariats’ mom was 19 when she produced him. Zen will and is now treated like Royalty and always will be.

Congrats on another Wildcat win (although we also must express condolences to Barbara Wood re the Baylor loss). I’m still trying to recover from the Duke performance.
Have you joined the forum Debbie? Haven’t seen a name that looks like you, and there are now way too many places to look.

Duke was pathetic this year in the tourney, spoiling an otherwise good year. Debbie G-Who are you rooting for? Kentucky or Louisville? Too bad they can’t meet in the finals.

I am really happy that the legacy of the Great Zenyatta will continue through her offspring. It makes my heart happy to know that Zenyatta will have the opportunity to produce many wonderful foals who we can watch grow and develop into great race horses. I don’t think that anyone here has the right to question her owner’s decisions on what is best for her. When she retired people complained about her retiring. Now that she is a broodmare, people are complaining about that. Please let us enjoy her in whatever capacity her owners have chosen for her. Love you Z and Baby Z!!!
Rosemary McCauley - So. Cal.
If anyone doubts that Zenyatta is very happy and content with her retirement and her new career as a mom, look at the video posted of her on her first “turn out” day at Lane’s End. She is running, bucking, kicking up her heels and romping in the show with her tail and her head held high. There are also numerous videos of her interacting with the other mares she was first turned out with. She enjoyed their company and they were often videotaped rough housing with each other. Now in the videos with and photos of her with the little prince, take a look at her facial expressions. She is truly in love. As Ann Moss said after the birth, “She likes him a lot.”
I was very sad to see her leave racing and California behind, and she had the best life here as an athlete that any athlete could have. But the life she is experiencing now is the best possible life for her now. I’m so glad that the Mosses allow us to stay in touch with her.
Terry Crow
Well put.

Only one new foal added to the Lane’s End list and the momma isn’t Tasty. Sigh.
Mike Smith had another win yesterday so now he has three to go to reach 5,000.
I have a joke, but don’t think it will reach “Hall of Fame” status.
Clem and Homer were looking at the Sears catalog admiring the models. Homer said to Clem, “They shor’ are purty and look at them prices.” Clem answered, “That’s purty cheap alright, I’m gonna order me one!” Homer said, “If yours is as purty as the picture, I’ll order me one, too.”
About three weeks later the older guy, Homer asked Clem if his order had come from Sears yet. The younger, Clem replied, “Nope, but it shouldn’t be long now. Her clothes came yestidday.”
Everybody have a good day.

A good redneck never uses toilet paper as long as he/she has a Sears catalog. Good one Marty.

Great picture of Zenyatta and baby. I am also interest in Tasty, hope she is doing well. I check everyday to see if Tasty had her foal. Okay, I will have a redneck joke later especially for Sharon in GA. IN the meantime, here is a hall lof fame cowboy joke for signofthetimes, president of Texas chapter, and Barbara Wood, charter member. A cowboy comes riding in from the range and reins up in front of a saloon. He goes in and drinks a few beers. He comes out, only to discover that his horse is missing. This, of course, makes him very mad and he stalked back into the saloon. Drawing his guns, he says in a very loud voice “Someone here thought it was funny to steal my horse. I am going to drink a few more beers. When I am done, I am going to go back outside. If my horse has not been returned to me, I am going to do the same thing I did in Texas.” With that, the cowboy sat down and drank a few more beers. About 45 minutes later, he rose and went back outside. His horse was there waiting for him. The cowboy nodded his head and mounted his steed. Just before he left, the bartender came outside. “Hey Pard, we were wondering. Just what did you do in Texas?” “I walked home,” said the cowboy.

Thanks Terry. I needed a good chuckle. That is a good one. You’re the best!

14 times.
I wont accept defeat.
14 races

14 races
I’m going to have fun
The Classic’s behind me
I won like a girl.
I beat all the boys.

A Girl in the world of boys,
A Queen of the sports of Kings
A girl in a mans world
Cause thats all about to change.
Now the gate is open,

I hold my breathe
And get ready to WIN! i have your breyer.

All the best directed towards Mr. Baffert. I hope that his schedule didn’t have anything to do with his troubles. It would probably be most difficult for him to curtail his activities. Can’t believe that he was once a quarter horse trainer at Los Alamitos, a local small track here in SoCal.

Dear Judy B. Hang on to your hair. We are just not getting through to our Tasty. She is a horse with a mind and will of her own. We may be waiting until the weekend. April 1 is the birthday of both the Queen and Dynaformer. Tasty’s foal could make it to 3. If not, I will have to write more poetry. I would rather write an ode to a new foal.

Big Brown colt to Coolmore connections for $1.3-million
Posted: Monday, March 26, 2012 4:33 PM
by Joe Nevills Thoroughbred Times
As the sale prepared to draw to a close, a Big Brown colt became the new topper, leaving the ring to bloodstock adviser Demi O’Byrne for $1.3-million at the Fasig-Tipton Florida sale of selected two-year-olds in training.
The bay colt is out of winning Silver Ghost mare Cool Ghoul, who is the dam of three winners from as many starters, including multiple stakes winner Dagnabit and stakes-placed winner Bad Boy Rising. Notable family members include Grade 1 winner Single Blade and Grade 2 winner Comeonmom.
Consigned by Wavertee Stables, agent, the colt breezed one furlong in :10.20 at the presale under-tack show, tied for the second-fastest time at the distance for the sale.
Max
I saw him on tv at the sale. He is a beautiful colt and a real credit to his sire and dam. Coolmore will train him well. He will be one to watch.

I do not think I should give an explanation about how much I know the industry of horseracing, but if I get insult, I need to do it.
My family has been involved with horses, for as many years since I can remember. Nevertheless, I should not ignore that this industry, is like any other business. Money is the prime objective. But….
Look at this link, this mare was a great race horse and she die because she was bred until 16 years old.

Dr. Janis Kengis’ Kris Is It, dam of two stakes-placed runners, died March 19 at Nandi Veterinary Clinic near New Freedom, Pa., from a ruptured uterine artery while delivering a Tale of the Cat filly. The filly also died.
Sixteen-year-old Kris Is It (Kris S.—Damewood, by Majesty’s Prince) was stakes-placed as a 3-year-old. She produced five winners, including stakes-placed Mobilizer and Wise Investor, dam of stakes-placed Ghost N Your Heart.

Zenyen
All the more reason for Zenyatta to have a fruitful broodmare career in her early years and look to pension her around 16 – 18.
judy berube from Rhode Island
Dear Ingrid:
This is so sad. Kris Is It was sired by Kris S who is also Vertigineux’s sire, so she has a connection to Z. According to Pedigree Query, which is not always accurate, Kris Is It has had foals in 2002, 2003, 2004 2005, 2007 and 2008. So I guess she had problems being bred for the last few years. I think there should be an age limit for breeding, especially if the mare has had a problematic fertility history. Each mare is different, I know, but I think breeding until maybe 12 years old (if the mare is healthy and sound) should probably be it. Also, I think mares that have never raced should not be bred. Breeding mares that do not have racing ability may result in foals that do not have racing ability which results in more throw-a-way horses and that is totally wrong and irresponsible breeding. All horses should be given the opportunity at life as show horse, riding horses, therapy horses or just beautiful eye candy pets. The more irresponsible breeding, more horses will die. Hugs, JB
LauraJ (Cincinnati, OH)
I am going to disagree, at least in part. It depends on why the mare is unraced. Certainly a mare with heritable defects, unbalanced conformation, or a lack of talent should not be bred. However, there can be various reasons why a horse doesn’t make the starting gate: early injury, owner’s lack of funds, small size, inability to get a gate card, non-heritable congenital defects such as crooked legs from a bad position in the uterus. If I had a mare who was unraced for one of those reasons, but who was otherwise healthy I’d consider breeding her if she has shown talent during training and/or she came from a strong female family with black type up close.
I agree that as a mare ages, her health should be monitired closely. But 12 is awfully young to quit breeding. She is in her prime at that age. She could have 15 or more years of life ahead of her. What if she weren’t a candidate for training as a sport horse? If she can breed, she can earn her keep. She’d be at much greater risk of becoming a throwaway if she were just a pasture ornament.
Also, if you cut off breeding a 12 or even 16, a lot of good horses would never have been born. There’d be no Secretariat. Zenyatta’s dam Vertigineux would not have been born–her dam was 17. Sea The Stars is another one.
judy berube from Rhode Island
Dear Laura J.:
I defer to your knowledge of all things horses and your eloquence in stating your case. I do believe, though, there is irresponsible breeding of TB’s which is resulting in the deaths of many of them. Like so many businesses, improvement can and should be made. Too many TB’s are still being sold to kill buyers and sent to slaughter every day. That is a sad fact. Hugs, JB
judy berube from Rhode Island
Dear Laura J.:
If you will e-mail me at rberube59@cox.net, I will e-mail you some material from Wild For Life Foundation that sheds light on the topic of Thoroughbred Breeding. It’s very thoroughly and thoughtfully done. Hugs, JB

Judy & LauraJ, thanks for this discussion.
LauraJ (Cincinnati OH)
Oh, I don’t for a moment disagree that overbreeding is a huge, huge problem. It is. And certainly, many horses, male and female, are bred that should not be. They’re unlikely to produce foals that will be attractive to buyers or that will be successful racers. What I am saying is that setting arbitrary rules (e.g., no breeding of mares older than 12, no breeding of unraced mares) will not solve the problem. Things have to be taken on a case-by-case basis.

With the Mosses looking after Zenny’s interests I have no worries about her being a broodmare. Question: Is Zenyatta ready to be bred again so soon? I don’t want anything to happen to her. Everyone loves her so much.
Zenyen
Yes.
If her body is not ready to carry the pregnancy she simply won’t ‘catch’ to the breeding. But a young, healthy mare like Zenyatta should have no problem getting in foal.

2012…does that mean she will be bred back very soon? Tapit-Z breeding has lots of nicks and an x-factor or three. There will be athleticism, brains, and beauty in the progeny. Would have liked to have seen Z bred in 2013 to give her time to enjoy her new colt but time is money in thoroughbred (racehorse) breeding.
