Zenyatta has given us three beautiful foals in three years. She excels at motherhood, a role she wholeheartedly enjoys.
From the start, Zenyatta’s happiness and well-being has been our top priority. Following the birth of her perfect new filly, we have decided to honor her by giving her a year off from foaling. She will not be bred this year.
Zenyatta continues to be in good health and excellent condition. She will have time to rest, mentally and physically, and to enjoy being a horse in one of the most beautiful places in the country. We would like to thank the wonderful people at Lane’s End Farm for making all of this possible.
We’re so proud of our Queen!
-Team Z
P.S. Zenyatta may be taking a year off, but Zenyatta.com is not! We will be right here as your only official source for all things Zenyatta, Cozmic One, Ziconic, and 14Z.
Ingrid Arnone
To Zenyatta’s owners, you are the best in the whole world!
God Bless you!
I love you! Hugs Ingrid.

Awwww……she is soooo loved!!!

I’m glad to hear that Zenny is getting a year off. She’s the best mom ever, but I’m sure she’ll enjoy having a year to just be a horse. Thanks for taking such good care of our Queen, Team Z! You’re the best.
@Judy B – I really enjoyed your pictures. Thanks for sharing. Hugz, Debbie

Dear Zenyatta Team!
That filly is so beautiful! I can’t wait to see her run, and beat the boys, just like Zenyatta! I know she will end up like her, and even, maybe, just maybe, run in one of the Triple Crown races, or all three, and maybe, just maybe, win the Triple Crown! I am so proud of Zenyatta, and the filly is so big and beautiful!
Deb E.
This decision has set off waves of rejoicing on a certain social network by those who feared Zennie was going to be overbred. This shows a blantant lack of respect to the Mosses who want only the best for their beloved equine daughter. They would NEVER do anything to jeopardize Zenyatta’s health or well-being. EVER. And that goes for Coz, Zi and Princess, too! The only one I see having a problem with this decision is Zenyatta herself! She adores being the extraordinary mom that she is, and I’m afraid she might get a little depressed without a beautiful foal at her side next year.
Pamela Kafton
I commented to someone at Lane’s End that Zenyatta looked tired and looking old about a month before she gave birth to her filly and suggested that she be given a year off. I am SO pleased and happy that the Mosses feel the same way!! That is GREAT news following a GREAT Kentucky Derby!!
Jackie
So glad to hear she will have a year off. Nice to be a horse and just enjoy!

I was wondering about this so thanks for letting us know! I’m sure she will enjoy the down time! That fully is beautiful and I can’t wait to see what all three foals will look like on the track! I’m hoping to be able to see Cozmic One’s first race and following his career! Is Ziconic the official name of 13z? If so I LOVE it!! Enjoy the down time Queen Z!
Anne
Great idea. It gives her some time to enjoy herself and as they said…”Be a horse”. She can totally enjoy her new filly, who by the way, has the look of an exceptional racehorse. I can not get over how intelligent she looks in almost every photo. In one photo, she even stacked heself. I hava big crush on this one.

Oh, such welcome news! Maybe our Queen can finally have a Guinness again. I wonder if Life Is Sweet is also taking a year off. I know how much they love each other and are BFF.
Christal Williams
Wild horses have done it for centuries, though I am glad she is getting a vacation. She needs to regain reserves lost. Noone deserves it more than her after the many thrills she has given to all and then to come off the track and present the Moss’s with and her fans with three gorgeous foals. I say horses have done it for centuries because regardless of what happens during her broodmare career I don’t believe and can not fathom anyone believing the Moss’s would do something to hurt Zenyatta or any of their horses. She’s just an awesome horse with awesome owners and awesome adoring fans. She is very very loved GO ZENYATTA

Zenyatta, I am happy to hear you will have a slight vacation. You will enjoy just being a horse for a while. This will not come while you are taking care of 14z of course; she looks like she’ll be up to mischief in no time!!
Goodnight sweet Z with LOVE
kisses on your soft nose and to Coz, Ziconic and precious baby 14z

Good move. This is a big filly that Zenny had this year. Plus future foals will all be coming in April/May timeframe. Zenny deserves a year off and then try for a Jan/Feb foal. I just love this filly’s coat color. It just looks very rich.
Maria Kern
Thank you so much for giving her a year off! You guys are the best! We will always love you Queen Z!

THANK YOU – I and WE all know how very special Zenyatta is and we all treasure the fact that you (TEAM Z expecially the Mosses) love her = and thank you for sharing – it is much appreciated.

To the Mosses and the Zenyatta team,
As a fellow horse owner and lover, I just wanted to say thank you for keeping Zenyatta and her well-being at the forefront of your minds as you decide to give her a break. It shows that you truly care about her and what is best for her. I am thankful to know that there are good people still out there in an industry that has been taken so far off course from what it once was. You do your horses a great service just by being the kind and caring people that you are. Keep it up and it will come back to you many times over!
Wishing you and yours all the best from Wyoming,
Katie

@sheena. Willie Mullins has confirmed that Quevega, who retired last week from racing after a brilliant career, has mated with Beat Hollow, a Juddmonte stallion, standing at Bansted along with Frankel. She will have a foal next year in late April or May. The dad raced in both Europe and the US and was trained by both Henry Cecil and Bobby Frankel. With her pedigree and his, sire is Sadler’s Wells, the baby might be impressive. As you probably know, Beat Hollow has sired some good flat and jump horses.
Mullins also announced that The Fly will probably stay in training next year, but will switch to longer races up to three miles. Go Fly.
sheena.davies(wales)
Dear Max.That’s great news about Quevega. Hope for a May foal.I wonder if she popped in to say “Hi” to Frankel while she was there.!!!Good new about the Fly,he’s still a young horses. Let’s hope for more grade 1’s from him. Free the Moose.Sheena.
Max
Sheena. I am glad for Quevega too. She retired sound. She deserves a happy retirement. Mullins specifically said that it was not too late in the season for breeding. Every mare is different and has different issues. Beat Hollow has a famous fast developing late May foal in his pedigree, Northern Dancer. The Dancer won both the Kentucky Derby and Preakness before he turned 3.
As for the Fly, keep biting em. Go Fly!

Best things in life for, Quevega.
Bite on, Fly.
Hats off to Northern Dancer, 50 years later and we still love you!

Bonjour Zenyatta,
Enjoy your time off from breeding and stay well.
So happy that the decision was made to keep you healthy and
later you can have more babies.
God love you, Zenyatta!
Thank you!

May 6 Cherokee Devotional
When we let down our guard, habit is waiting to reclaim its territory. It seems innocent and it is so familiar that we seldom suspect what teeth it has! Once we decide to change something, we can’t expect to do it in a great sweep. What has taken us over by such tiny degrees must be edged out the same way. The fact that we are taking small steps does not minimize a very great commitment. Little by little, we reform our habits, making sure we leave no void for any other bad habit to fill. If we have a ne lo ta nv, made an effort or tried to change and failed, it is probably because we tried to do it alone or denied the need to change. The Cherokee believes he needs a u na li go sv, a help or partnership, to give him support. It may be another v da di lv quo ta nv, a special or blessed person that is grounded in the Galun lati.
I am tired of talk that comes to nothing.

Thank-you for being such good owners !!!! If we had more owners like you, we wouldn’t have people and organizations against horse racing, and less deaths and bad injuries. Horse racing, and the whole industry would be revived, and the tracks would be full, if more owners, trainers, grooms, and farms were like Zenyatta’s team. Zenyatta’s team and Zenyatta herself, both on and off the track have shown the beauty, courage, and excitement of racing and the wonderful thoroughbred; if there were more people like them, all the problems facing the industry would either go away, or solutions would be found. The horses themselves would do the rest, and it would become the number one sport in the country, with the whole family making a day of it, OFTEN!!!!
shirleeinindy
Not surprised by not mating her this year since Easter Lilly was such a late foal. Glad she is getting a year to just be a horse and enjoy herself rolling in the mud.
Very much doubt if Ms. Banke will breed Rachel again at all.
Judy Berube From Rhode Island
Dear Shirlee:
It would be very risky, I think. They came so close to losing her. Love and Hugs, JB
