Earlier this month, Zenyatta was visited by a very special fan. Ten-year-old Tiana came from California to meet her favorite racehorse with the help of Make-A-Wish.
Tiana has myeloid leukemia, a treatable but incurable cancer. Lane’s End was the first stop on her Kentucky trip, which included time at Keenland and Old Friends.
Zenyatta, always gentle with children, greeted her young fan with nuzzles. Tiana was picture perfect, dressed to match the Moss silks.
We’re so glad that Zenyatta could help make Tiana’s wish come true. Scroll down for more pictures of their time together.

Anyone who has ever woven a basket, made a quilt, or painted a picture knows the importance of mixing colors and textures. One or two things may not make a picture, but overall the distinct pattern of life is laid out for everyone to see. We may be aware of how we weave our lives on a daily basis. Weak strands, colorless fibers, and questionable design shows more than we know. What seems bright and perfect and trendy may make an overall picture lacking life. Sometimes the drab and unattractive pieces bring out the cheerful. Every part of who we are has given us the power and strength to do wonderful things. Rather than glancing backward to see what we did wrong, look ahead. Choose gratitude and unjaded joy in all the little things life weaves together so brightly.
Had the Indian been as completely subdued in the spirit as he was in his body he would have perished with the century of his subjection.

What a beautiful family – Tiana and her parents. It was so wonderful for them to be all together with Zenny. Zenny is such a wonder! She’s always so kind and sweet. She seems to sense more than people do – which she probably does. Thank you, Zenny, for always being such a wonderful example. with love, Elizabeth

What pictures of love and tenderness. What a blessing Zenyatta is. Think a poster of “The Kiss” would be very popular.

Love an tenderness are purely seen in every picture. There is not another horse who has a kind eye like our Queen.

Dear Kathy. We could do with some brightness in Carmarthen today, very heavy thunder showers and the LS is off on the Dyfi.”Bob”no2 is certainly taking his/her time.I can see “bob” no 1 being the bully of the pack! The 3 are growing so quickly at Manton Bay buy Maya brooded a lot yesterday as it was cold and 33(11)had difficulty fishing.
Sad about the events in Alberquerque someone took 20lbs of treats to the police dept for the horses.I really despair of humans sometimes why hurt the horses?.
The ratties are planning another abventure soon and Lionel can watch the mobies now he libs with them.Royal christening in Sweden today waiting for pictures.Princess Sofia is back at “work” only 5 weeks after giving birth.Mango and Mattie had ice cream cones but poor Zoe is still sore after her visit to the doggie dentist.I pray Carl will be able to buy Uti tonight. It would break his heart to lose him.How on earth can you describe a horse as an “asset”??Poor Hovis the women in his life will never understand him!And Herman the German is visiting.Needles come to mind.So sad to hear that story of Geraldine Larkey who got lost in the Appalachians seems it took 2 years to find her body. Not a good idea to go alone.Holidays both sides of the pond this weekend.Have a great day.Love and hugs to you,Kisses for Angel Holly,Nikko and Sugar.SheenaXOXO
Kathy
Dear Sheena,
Sorry you have storms yet again. Eventually you’ll get lots of sun, I guess. Poor ospreys. They have so many struggles! Hadn’t heard about the horse treats being stolen. Some people are really scum! Anxious to hear about the ratties’ next abventure. Lionel is lucky to get to watch mobies now. Will be anxious to see the christening pictures from Sweden. They are a striking family! Wow, 5 weeks isn’t enough time off in my opinion. Mango and Mattie really seemed to enjoy their ice cream. I’m worried about Zoe. That dentist really did a number on her, apparently! Fingers crossed Carl can buy Uti tonight. Hovis has a lot to endure. They need to treat him more like the star he is. Yes, extremely sad about Geraldine Larkey. I would hate to think that I would die and it would take 2 years to find my body! Absolutely a BAD idea to go alone. Enjoy your holiday. SO looking forward to that extra day off! Thanks to all the men and women who paid the ultimate price for our freedom…Have a wonderful day. Love and hugs from me, kisses from Angel Holly, Nikko and Sugar. Kathy XOXO

The photo that is next to last on my computer page, where Zenyatta’s sweet nose is kissing Tiana’s upturned face, is probably one of the most beautiful pictures of Zenny that I have ever seen. My eyes are all misty with tenderness from the knowledge of this wish fulfilled for this beautiful child and her family, but that photo simply goes beyond, pulling at my heart, bringing tears for the generosity and kindness of not only Zenyatta, but all of Team Z. Thank you for sharing this with us.

Zenyatta’s tenderness shines in these pictures, especially the kiss. Wishing Tiana and her family all the best, so happy they got to visit Z.

These pictures make my heart sing and my face cry all at the same time! It must be an amazing thing to experience a bonding like that!

Helping Someone When You’ve Never Been in Their Situation
by Holley
Big Yellow Umbrella Card by DaySpring
I often get notes from people saying something like, “My friend/family member is going through a hard time but I don’t feel like I can help because I haven’t been through the same thing.” Here’s my response: “You don’t have to experience the same storm to know what it’s like to get wet.”
I’m certain you know what it’s like to feel soaked to the bone by discouragement, have fear thundering above you or watch a dream wash away. Don’t we all? It’s not our ability to duplicate details but to relate on a heart level that lets us have empathy and be able to encourage.
I once wrote a card for DaySpring that says:
I wish I had a big, yellow umbrella that would keep all the rain out of your life.
I would hold it over your head and the drops would splash, splash and you would never even feel it.
But I don’t have a big yellow umbrella, so I’ll walk through the rain with you.
When it comes to living that out, here are three ways you can walk through the rain with someone no matter what storm they’re facing:
1) Simply listen. When I did grief support groups I heard people say over and over again, “It was so comforting when someone just let me talk and cried with me.” When we’re hurting, what we need most isn’t answers; it’s to know we’re not alone.
2) Be a safe place. When someone shares their struggles with us, we’re to treat them with care like precious treasures. After all, it seems that’s what God does. “Put my tears into Your bottle; Are they not in Your book?” {Ps. 56:8}. These three C’s can help us remember how to do so: Never criticize or condemn. Always keep it confidential.
3) Don’t try to fix it. When I got a masters degree in counseling we were told over and over, avoid giving advice. We empower people most when we trust them to figure out their own lives with God’s help. We are simply there to be an encouragement and sounding board.
Ironically, the need to prove we’re useful can push us to talk too much and try too hard. When we feel that pressure, we can take a deep breath and remember we don’t have to be anyone’s God, Jesus or Holy Spirit. It’s not within our power to resolve the problem, change the circumstance or even make the pain go away. In other words, we can’t make the sun come out again.
That reality doesn’t mean we’re a failure. It simply means we’re not God.
So what is success when it comes to helping others in our lives? After hearing from thousands of hurting people I’ve come to believe it’s simply this: Having the courage to step into the rain–even if it’s not our storm.
XOXO

How come when Team Z puts up a new post I see all these comments about everyone’s problems and just plain chatter? I would think you could use another subject line for such matters. People should be commenting about the subject Team Z has brought us!! This lovey young girl is so happy about getting her dream wish to see Zenyatta. Such a touching story. My eyes filled with tears reading her story. Our comments should be about her story not about our own personal stories. There are other posts on this website for you to use. Sorry if I have offended anyone. Just think about it.
ThNk you Team Z for sharing such a wonderful story with us. May God be with this beautiful family.

I vaguely remember a few years back that Team Z doesn’t confirm a pregnancy until she is about 45 days? Does anyone else remember reading something like that?

Dear Cheryl:
I think it was 35 or 36 days after Z was bred last year when Team Z announced Z was in Foal again to War Front. Sadly, the beautiful little Prince only lived a few days. Love and Hugs, JB

My Dearest Zenyatta.
Happy fabulous Friday to you and all. Zenny, I am so proud of you for being so gentle and kind with Tianna. These photos are so precious and she will never forget meeting you. Thank you Zenny and Team Z for welcoming her and her parents. Bravo, bravo, bravo to all involved with this Make a Wish. Sweet little Tianna is in my prayers.
Summer is finally here. Last night I saw lightning bugs for the first time this year and the baby robins on my front porch flew the nest. I actually got to see them fly out. There were three of them. I miss them but oh my goodness the mess they left behind, lol. Now I get my front porch and the use of my front door back. Their nest was in a wreath on the front door.
Have a safe and wonderful Memorial weekend everyone. And as always thank you Team Z for all you share with us. Zenyatta, my angel I love you forever.

We can be overwhelmed by what we have done and what we failed to do. Learning to forgive others is a cinch in comparison to forgiving ourselves. Someone once said that God is like a mother who can kiss away to oblivion anything we do wrong. We need to remember that.
Only time heals some wounds. We can’t go on irritating old hurts and expect them to heal. Yes, we have all done wrong things, but we cannot let them whip us. We can forgive and we can be forgiven.
I am a poor man, but I am not going to get angry and talk about it.
