We got about 8 more inches of snow between yesterday and today. Luckily the snow from last week’s storm melted in the mild temps, but this snow will be around for a while as our temps this week will be in the teens and low twenties. We had some heavy wind gusts too. Good news, it’s almost the middle of February. Love and Hugs, JB, LM, PC, HT, Cap, Herc, Frank, Bentley and all the Sweeties
Dear Judy.Sorry about the link.May have only been to share on facebook. She had a couple of visitors Abigail is wondering if she will stay in England for the birth??It’s turned colder today with us too but no snow thank goodness.Hope your power stays safe.Love and hugs Sheena.

Dear Sheena:
Thanks, wishing Treve an easy foaling and a healthy foal.
We’ve been very lucky and haven’t lost power. We’re in the for coldest temps this week that we’ve had so far all Winter. February is always interesting in the East. Love and Hugs, JB
Sandy (Northeast Ohio)
“Interesting” would be a word. I can think of others, but they aren’t printable. The deep freeze seems to be on the horizon for everyone this week. Trying desperately to get the slushy snow up before it freezes beyond hope :-(
Judy Berube from Rhode Island
My Dear Sandy:
You have me laughing out loud. Yes, “interesting” can encompass a vast array of nasty words. We are in for below freezing temps by the weekend here too. Stay safe and warm. Love and Hugs, JB
Angela took this video yesterday of Charlie and his BFF, Simon, playing in the snow. When Simon decides to roll, Charlie comes charging over and Simon gets up really fast. Charlie is an absolute “devil”. You can hear Angela in the background. Dakota Moon is the white and light brown paint and Storm is wearing the blinkers. Love and Hugs, JB
Dear Judy,
Just loved seeing all of your beautiful ‘babies’ (well I consider them yours). How hold are they all? You’ve probably told us, but I missed it if you did. Thank you so much for sharing. What beautiful thoughts I’ll have of them when I turn in tonight.
with love, Elizabeth PS Especially loved Dakota Moon. Will dream of them all tonight!
I do consider them “my babies”. Angela owns Charlie, Dakota Storm and three other horses; Willow, Dandy and Archie. Storm and Simon are owned by two different boarders. There are an additional 34 horses boarding at the farm.
Charlie will be 10 years old on March 19th, Dakota Moon is probably a year or two younger than Charlie and Simon, who raced at Suffolk Downs in Boston just like Charlie, is about a year or two older than him. I think storm is going to be 14 this year. I love seeing them so happy and joyful too. Love and Hugs, JB
Judy Berube from Rhode Island
Oops: That should be “Dakota Moon”! Love and Hugs, JB
Elizabeth in NM
Dear Judy,
We consider our neighbor’s horses ‘our babies’ also. That’s what we call them – “The Babies” – even though their both 30+. We’re like the ‘grandparents’ – we go over to the fence or in the paddock & give them treats. We watch after them when their ‘Momma’ (our neighbor) is out of town). Love hearing all about ‘your babies’. I know you’re like us – we pray for them (and their real human Momma) everyday. Can’t imagine life without all of them. Know you feel the same. Wonder how God came up with the idea of a ‘horse’, but am so glad He did. Thanks so much for telling about the horses at the farm near where you live. Love reading the updates about them! with love, Elizabeth
Judy Berube from Rhode Island
Dear Elizabeth:
You describe what it is to love them, exactly. Yes, they truly are one of God’s masterpieces. Love and Hugs, JB
The horses are having so much fun and the sunlight on the snow, the trees, it’s all just beautiful.
It’s snowing here a little, sparkling in the street lights.
I’ve had so many dreams, repeating dreams, that the alleys were paved with green grass instead of concrete, and we had horses in the garage, and went riding all over the city.
Dear Judy.Fabulous to see Charlie and the gang having so much fun in the snow.Snow turns to slush with us so quickly and gets so dirty .Looks beautiful at the farm.Thank you for sharing.Love and hugs Sheena.
Dear Sophia,
Your dream sounds a bit like heaven on earth. Sometimes I dream we’ll all be riding horses in heaven and going for field trips (not sure where, but they are always wonderful and beautiful places I’ve never seen). Thanks so much for sharing. Going to try to remember what you said in your post just before I go to sleep tonight. with love, Elizabeth
Dear Judy B.,
Love this video! They are having such fun playing in the snow — I can relate. Looks beautiful there. We had a few flakes today, but nothing on the ground.

Dear Judy Berube; I am so glad to have seen the wonderful video you shared of these horses and especially Papa Charlie and Simon. They were having so much fun running in the beautiful snow. I have been wondering about Charlie and Hudson for quite some time now. They all look so good and happy!

Yes, thank you for asking. Hudson is doing really well. I saw her last Tuesday. Deb told me that she was running and playing in the snow too on Saturday. The girls have had her fitted with shoes with spikes in them on her back feet for traction. Love and Hugs, JB

I’m ba-a-a-a-ack !! Have been trying to catch up on the blog and waiting to write until I did–decided that’s a bad idea when I saw that today is both Marshall AND Brenda’s birthday !!! Hope it’s been a wonderful day for each of you and that the year to come will be great for each of you !!!
Judy, I loved the video of Charlie and his friends playing in the snow. Do you still get to see Hudson ?? Seems like I remember that you do.
Am still trying to catch up on EVERYTHING, after the holidays–not to mention, I am still trying to deal with all of the boxes I brought into my small condo over two years ago !! It was already full–eeeeek !
Have always made time for riding Barnaby though, he and Traveller are having a wonderful winter down at River Sage again–I think I mentioned early in the winter that their Aunt Katie, the wonderful woman who manages River Sage, had moved other horses around so that they could have their accustomed paddock and shelter for the third winter. They are so happy there and love hanging over the fences on each side and visiting their neighbors.
They had a very exciting day this past Sunday as Barnaby’s Aunt Heather, who just loves him, and even rides him sometimes, had her friend, Ann, from Michigan here for a visit. Last year, when she was here, she came to see him and, this year, she wanted to see the horses again. Heather’s nice boyfriend, Roger, came along and took TONS of pictures ! He is going to send them to Boss Mare Sue’s computer so we can have the ones we like copied. Heather rode Barnaby and he was really good for her. She had a ball. Ann had fun petting Barnaby, and Traveller, and giving them lots of treats after we rode, and, she had lots of fun with Eleanor, one of our barn kitties, who just loved her. Roger even rode Traveller for a few minutes ! It was so funny, as soon as they came into the arena, Barnaby went right over to the side to say hello to everyone. He is such a ham, he assumes that everyone who comes in is there to see him ! Even when the trainers come in, he expects to be acknowledged and petted–and, they do it for him ! After they had all of their treats, Heather took us humans all out to breakfast–so it was quite a gala start to the day.
Zenny, hope you feel all of the kisses blown to you on the wind and that you are having sweet dreams at night about your wee one, soon to arrive.
Love to all Zsters, near and far, from me–and from Barnaby !!
Dear Sue Noel,
Really good to hear from you and to catch up on Barnaby & Traveller! Always love your posts, and look forward to them.
Thank you for the birthday greetings, too.
Glad you enjoyed the video of Charlie and his pals in the snow. So good to know that Barnaby and Traveler are enjoying their Winter home. Would love to see some of the photos of the horses if you can post them. Great to hear from you. Love and Hugs, JB
PS: Yes, Sue. I visit Hudson often. She’s doing really well. She’s been adopted by a mother and daughter who have been working with her in jumping. She won ribbons in shows last year and there are plans to compete in three shows this year. She’s at a different farm now; about 15 minutes from Charlie. Love and Hugs, JB
Dear Judy.Hope you are keeping snug and warm with Lola.We have been promised some snow am not sure what part of the UK.It was lovely to see Al galloping across the paddock in the sunshine.Goodnight God bless you LM PC HT Hercules Cap Frank Bentley and all the Sweeties.Love and Hugs SheenaX

Mike Smith and I have a chat on champion Songbird
A special guest Past The Wire “Songbird” by Amy Nesse
Zenyatta, Rachel Alexandra, Royal Delta, Rags To Riches…Songbird?
Is it too soon to be comparing her to these greats? Maybe, but few horses make such an impressive impression so early on in their careers as this filly has. Songbird is all speed and class, a perfect picture of raw talent that hasn’t even been fully released yet. http://www.pastthewire.com/a-special-guest-past-the-wire-songbird-by-amy-nesse/
Mike Smith describes Songbird (from article)
What kind of personality would you say she has?
“Oh, very kind, so kind. very professional, she just is on top of her game she knows what she is doing and she is aggressive out of the gate and on the track and I love that about her.”
Thank you for these wonderful insights on Songbird. Mikey’s opinion caries a lot of weight since he’s ridden the VERY BEST, our Queen. I’ve read an article where the writer thinks Songbird should go against the boys in the Derby instead of the Oaks. Stay healthy beautiful girl. Love and Hugs, JB
Dear BGG,
Thank you for this article. Great to hear Mike Smith’s comments on Songbird’s talents and personality, too. She is a real beauty! Please stay safe and sound, beautiful girl.
When we got word that snow was due, our first thought was that it would be a good opportunity to clean out files, closets, drawers, and pantries. Snow fell as though all the geese that ever flew over had discarded their feathers. The great fluffy flakes mesmerized everyone-and all work was put aside. What fun to watch all the birds gather at the feeders. Dozens of tiny finches clustered around a mesh tube of thistle seeds. Just watching was more relaxing than therapy could ever be.
The need to clean up and put things in order is always there, but how often do we get to watch the red birds, blue jays, goldfinches, and snow all at once? Even when we have many things to do, it’s good to take time for awe, time for beauty.
When you begin a great work you can’t expect to finish it all at once.
-Teedyuscung, Delaware
Dear Kathy,
Your devotional today made me smile. Love watching the birds and bunnies when it snows at our home. If the snow starts ‘sticking’ to the ground and covers the feeders and water pans that are on the ground, outside, we put seeds underneath the back patio table. We watch them out our kitchen windows as they ‘hide’ under the table and munch. Always a joy to watch them. We don’t have snow right now (have had very little this winter) so loved the memories you brought back. with love, Elizabeth
Dear Kathy.Lovely devotional.I used to feed the birds in my old garden more difficult here.A very sunny day!!!Don’t worry it’ll never last! This PC was installing updates yesterday as I began writing my post to you. When it restarted took a while to accept my password thank goodness my own should be back by the weekend. Then today I couldn’t access bing the search engine!Well your election is getting interesting isn’t it but they were saying Hillary is more popular down south but we know Mr Fibbs is already in the White House!!!Kimberly had to visit the doc yesterday so Fubu was home alone. He really is a miracle cat.I follow a new cat called Ziggy now he’s a ragdoll and lives in the UK.I haven’t had a chance to visit Zoe yet but Ray was celebrating Mardi Gras yesterday and gorgeous photo of Boo on his page.It was sad about the train crash in Bavaria yesterday although we tend to complain about our services we very rarely get fatalities these days.Hope you survived your first day back and the nurses didn’t miss you too much.II am looking forward to seeing Denman on Saturday. He was a stablemate and next door neighbour of Kauto.Denman was the moody mean type of horse!Mango says they are spring cleaning temps are about 70F only 46F here today!Have a great day don’t work too hard!Love and hugs to you kisses for Holly,Nikko and Sugar.SheenaXOXO

Here’s a photo of MMM’s beautiful colt out of Strolling North. He was born at McMahon Farm in Saratoga, NY; same farm where Charlie was born. He’s just gorgeous. What a beautiful blaze. Click on the arrow on the right and there’s another photo of him. Love and Hugs, JB

Marshall (NC Broad)

PS: Yes, Sue. I visit Hudson often. She’s doing really well. She’s been adopted by a mother and daughter who have been working with her in jumping. She won ribbons in shows last year and there are plans to compete in three shows this year. She’s at a different farm now; about 15 minutes from Charlie. Love and Hugs, JB

Mike Smith describes Songbird (from article)
What kind of personality would you say she has?
“Oh, very kind, so kind. very professional, she just is on top of her game she knows what she is doing and she is aggressive out of the gate and on the track and I love that about her.”
Judy Berube from Rhode Island
Dear BGG:
Thank you for these wonderful insights on Songbird. Mikey’s opinion caries a lot of weight since he’s ridden the VERY BEST, our Queen. I’ve read an article where the writer thinks Songbird should go against the boys in the Derby instead of the Oaks. Stay healthy beautiful girl. Love and Hugs, JB

Dear BGG,
Thank you for this article. Great to hear Mike Smith’s comments on Songbird’s talents and personality, too. She is a real beauty! Please stay safe and sound, beautiful girl.

February 10 Cherokee Devotional

Dear Kathy,
Your devotional today made me smile.
